    Alright, I'll keep this short and simple. I love one-bag travel and I think you will too! Everything is easier when you carry less. You won't pay baggage fees, you won't hurt your back, you will feel cool af walking around with everything on your back, AND you will feel liberated by not carrying your fears on your back. I made this video in a way that my younger self would have found helpful. I hope it helps you too! Thanks for watching! I'm happy to answer any other questions you have:)
    P.S. I am aware I could have a lighter bag and a lighter setup. The point of this video isn't to show you the tiniest amount possible that you can bring, but that in fact one-bag travel is very achievable and can even be comfortable! If you don't count this as minimalist, then good for you:) Also, I would likely bring my larger 40L bag for traveling to cold locations as the clothing alone would take up a significant amount more space. I'm showing what works for me in my specific situation, hoping that even one or two tips can help you out! So far I am perfectly happy with what I brought on my trip and have run into no problems!
    Links to ALL my gear! The Amazon links give me a little kickback, so I appreciate you using my link, EVEN if you don't buy the exact thing linked, if it's through that link it will help me out!

    My advise for tops in Asia is to bring:
    1) 3-4 t-shirts and 2 polos made of a variation of different materials such as 100% merino wool, cotton, mixed cotton with polyester, and pure polyester. The problem with cotton is that it is difficult to iron and in Asia, with high humidity %, it takes ages to dry.
    That variation of materials gives you the flexibility to play with according to circumstances, temperature, humidity and laundry/drying time.
    2) Plus a mixed cotton zip-up jacket or sweatshirt with 2 zipped pockets outside (I hate pickpockets’ paranoia) and two pockets inside, plus a light raincoat.
    3) The same applies to short or long pants, mixed materials except for my Levi’s 501 🥰
    4) For elegant shirts, I normally bring a dark blue merino wool long sleeves from Massimo Dutti just in case a situation calls for it.
    I bring a water spray to remove wrinkles and use vodka instead to remove smells when no time for laundry

    • @alfonsohshk8998
      @alfonsohshk8998 7 місяців тому

      I forgot, Lacoste, Hackett and Ralph Lauren polos made of 100% cotton are elegant and very posh, but terrible to iron.
      Better Timberland 100% cotton or Brooks Brothers Supima 100% cotton or no logo mixed cotton-linen from Massimo Dutti. I just hang them and no need to iron them.

      Wow! Thanks for such a detailed bit of advice! I love learning about other peoples travel styles and strategies. I will be checking out that dark blue 'elegant shirt' from Massimo Dutti since a nice shirt is something I should add to my setup haha. Overall smart techniques for keeping the setup efficient! You say water spray, and is that literally just water? Or how does that remove wrinkles? Haha I just leave things wrinkled or get em ironed depending where I wash them

      @@BeinKian I have not sailed the seven seas yet but I have visited 67 countries so far! 😅
      Yeap, a simple spray with plain water ! Just hang your shirts and apply the spray over the clothing wrinkles and wait cpl of hours till dry.
      For the merino wool shirt, important is that it is made of merino wool (less wrinkles, odour resistant as it is antibacterial, less need for washing) and dark colour, hence ideal for travelling. MassimoDutti or any other good brand like Boggi, not sure about brands in the US, I am European!

    Man, I appreciate you sharing the thought process of trying to get the bag down under 7kg! A lot of explanations miss what a game this is. Move things around to meet the goals of the moment. Heavy stuff goes into pockets or the personal items during check-in, out of the pockets and back into bags for security, back into pockets for the gate, and finally move them to the spots you need them to be for the flight. You touched on it briefly, but you have options: the main bag, pockets, wearing some items, and your sling.
    I keep a 2L sling and a packable backpack as my options. I use a 38L North Face Phantom ski pack; the main feature is that the top-pocket clips off, becoming my official personal item, and the main bag fits into typical carry-on dimensions. The sling and top-pocket can fit in the packable backpack if I get hassled. But the whole solutions is just really comfortable to carry when it's all put together.

      This is what I am planning to do for my trip…I have always been team carryon but I have never done one bag for two weeks…I have usually had a roller suitcase and Pakt backpack…..I’m challenging myself to only pack the Pakt bag and bring 2L sling for things I will need on the plane. I appreciate the video and all the comments from everyone. As a woman who wears men’s clothing, I try to find that content cause all the women are packing things I don’t wear or use. lol! I tend to overpack so I am trying to be intentional and not pack for what ifs.

    I always travel with a single bag. The real uneasiness for most folks to try travelling with a single bag is due to their old mindset that a wheeled luggage must go along for long distance travel so that they could bring everything along. In most cases some of the stuffs inside the heavy check-in luggage is redundant. So, pack light and get that nomadic vibes when you go travelling places to places just like I always do. Thanks Bein Kian for advocating this form of one bag travel.

    Well done! I live in the Philippines and just returned from a week in Wales and England. My one bag for travel is a 45l Osprey. Compared to you, I had less tech yet more warm weather clothing. I find it empowering to walk off the plane, go thru immigration, and keep walking past the luggage turnstiles and go straight to the train, bus, or Uber pick up.

    • @BeinKian
      @BeinKian  8 місяців тому +1

      That's awesome to hear! Agreed haha it feels really cool to walk out of there with your single bag! Weather definitely changes the backing a lot. Warmer clothes are essential, but take up so much more space. I'll have to cross that road at some point haha

    Great video and loadout. One thing that I noticed is you're using the stock apple charging block(s), which are huge. You'd probably be able to cut down on some size/weight by getting a GAN third party one that's a bit smaller but still decent wattage.

    nice video! I typically travel with a backpack and a tote bag that I slide under the seat on the plane, but I'm currently tweaking my packing to truly fit into one bag. My biggest pain points aren't exactly my fears, but a few luxury items that I know I'm being stubborn on. Every time I take something away from my pack, my brain immediately goes to "oh! now I have room for xyz random item." Still training the brain.
    I now travel with a Dakine Split Adventure 28L that I added a light hip belt to. It's pretty lightweight and since I'm petite, it doesn't look as bulky on me as some other bags, but there was a learning curve on how to properly pack it. Also fits most budget airlines in the US as a personal item, though I haven't tested it out.
    Had I known about Aer and Evergoods before then, I might have tried one of those bags. I think they're both well-constructed and designed, but they are both a bit heavier than my dakine.

    • @BeinKian
      @BeinKian  11 місяців тому

      I hadn't heard about your bag before, it looks nice! And I totally understand that, its easy to justify extra when you have the space. The tote/bag combo is nice too, but even just having the option to put the tote into your bag is my ideal scenario like what I did with my little 8L shoulder bag. Even then, I ended up with just my phone, airpods, kindle, and charger at my seat and everything else in overhead bin for the plane. Leg Room!! Agreed about the pure bag weight. My bag already weighs nearly 4 lbs empty. I bet your bag is closer to 2 or 3 haha. Thank you for the kind comment:)

    For me, i wanted try one bag or 2 bags (travel backpack+duffel for longer trips) because i do not want to go through the hassle of checking in a luggage like eveeyone else. Currently im using the Evergoods CTB26, which is very similar to the AER Travel Pack 3 Small and its lighter by 200 grams and i prefer its functionality. For duffel im using the Bellroy Venture Duffel 40L and it only weighs 620 grams. For 4 days trip, ill just use the CTB26 , AER Day Sling 3 X-Pac and a packable tote from Nomatic or Peak Design for just in case. Excellent packing for a You Tuber, who have to bring copious technology wherever they go (what? No drone? No circle light?) For those of us who travel to beautiful places just to enjoy them, the only tech you need is a phone. Less tech then means you don’t need a heavy, expensive backpack. Your high school Jansport is more than enough. No problem getting to less than 12 pounds total, at a fraction of the cost. Can’t do You Tube, though.

I would say I lie somewhere in between the two. I am content with a phone, GoPro and mic for my equipment since I don't care for high quality production, more-so for raw & real moments and whatever else I decide to add later. (Like instead of drone I use google earth studio + map animations to help tell a story). I bet at some point ill do a trip with no computer or extra equipment.

    Honestly, you got a lot of room for improvement with this. As a start: a different backpack. I love my Aer TP3 small. But it is HEAVY for a 28l backpack even in x-pac. With the waist strap it is nearly 2kg on it's own. Thats just way too much if you try to hit the 7kg limit. You do not need so many chargers. Even if you don't want to buy one of those small GaN chargers that can charge multiple devices at once at fraction of the weight, your macbook charger is perfectly capable at charging also your phone, kindle, headphones. If you need to charge more then one device at once you can always daisy chain (charge your macbook with the charger and charge your other devices from the USB port on the macbook). I would also object that MX Master mouse. She's as heavy and bulky as they come. Two sets of airpods? Come on. Why bother bringing toothpaste tablets if you gonna bring toothpaste anyway? 3 chapsticks? Since you are going to single destination, you can just buy most of your toiletries at destination. I'm sure they sell toothpaste and chapsticks on Bali :) It did not look like you put your liquids in a separate transparent plastic bag. You might have a bad time at airport security check.
    But hey, you learn with experience. Enjoy your trip.

    • @BeinKian
      @BeinKian  11 місяців тому +3

      Thank you for the in depth analysis! I really appreciate all of that:) Yes I agree with you on most points. That being said, I wasn't going for the LEAST possible items that I can carry. What I am traveling with is likely less than 99% + of travelers, and based on everyones reactions (in person) so far I think thats not far off. The bag is a great bag and yes its too dang heavy, but with the amount I brought its not a problem. Especially being 6' 2" (188cm) this bag looks small on me so I run into less instances of weighing it. I did separate the liquids in the plastic bag for the airport, guess I didn't show that in the vid woops! The mouse is purely for convenience as is the second wall charger, extra cables, and additional clothing. Two sets of airpods has nothing to do with weight although I get your judgement:) (I have no regrets as its already come in handy), as for toothpaste I know I can buy it in the location, but the tablets avoid plastic waste. The tiny container if liquid toothpaste was from a past trip and its good for 1-3 brushes. I just use it in transport and have it at quicker access than my main toiletries. Overall, yes I agree. I learn with each experience and so far I am two weeks into the trip and am perfectly happy with what I brought and didn't bring. I can go about a week and a half without doing laundry which is the best part! (bought some extra swim shorts, tank tops, and some flip flops once I got here)
      Again thanks for your comment!

    How heavy is this backpack when it is empty?

    • @BeinKian
      @BeinKian  11 місяців тому +1

      It weighs 3.8 lbs which is a lot for one bag travel, but for me it’s worth the weight with the quality and features of the bag. Others might choose something half the weight, but it just can’t have the same structure if its ultra light

    Why carry a brick for 1TB? You can get an SD card in that size. Or a 1.5 TB micro SD.

      For video editing you need an ssd with high read/write speeds to be able to properly work off of it. As far as I know, you can't edit off an SD card haha

    ¿The AER travel backpack you use it’s the size of flight personal item?
    Thanks!

      In all airlines I have been on so-far with this bag it fits under the seat no problem, but I can't say all airlines will accept it since I haven't been traveling with this bag long enough. Here are the dimensions:
      Length: 19" (48 cm)
      Width: 13" (33 cm)
      Depth: 7.5" (19 cm)
      My guess is that some budget airlines wont accept this bag as a personal item and it will count as a carry on bag instead. The size requirement they have listed is: 40x20x25cm. Good luck with your bag search, and if you choose this as your one bag its great!

      No way man that's wild! Definitely something I didn't account for! Would be nice if airlines automatically gave people extra space when they were above a certain height. Its not like you choose to be tall haha
