Amazing. Sitting at work watching UA-cam videos about minimalism, travel, and one-bag living....... makes me want to quit. Alas, my skillset binds me to this location.
Hey Blaine, thanks for stopping by and checking out my video. It's all good, maybe start thinking of learning a new skill, it took me 7 years at college and 6-7 years in the industry to get travelling full time but you can learn a lot faster online these days or maybe look into earning passive income 15-30 minutes a day and let a build up over time and in a few years you can offset your bills with that. Any skill can make money these days on UA-cam, just sharing your passion from metalwork & welding to recommending books/games/movies you like or even Uber drivers and the cycling community showing their journey and how much they earn. A skill is a skill :)
appreciate the detail of you writing every item when they're laid out. And showing what you took for the short trip as well. Love videos like this. Foldable sunglasses is a genius idea. Never thought of that.
No problem at all. It keeps me organised and I really enjoy laying everything I own out online too. Tell me about it :) When I found the sunglasses I thought I hit the jackpot. I've also just seen yesterday that people now make leather goods out of discarded Mangos... Such a great idea: ua-cam.com/video/rcieZYwyEiA/v-deo.html
Thanks Sophie! I think it is about finding what works best for you. It took me quite a lot of time to where I am at today but I've really enjoyed the journey and it's definitely been worth it for me. Can't wait to see your video in a decades time ;)
That is actually one of the best packing video on yt. No bs. I've travelled a lot lately (business), but didn't have to keep it all that clean. I had 23kg luggage everytime etc, but I optimized my packing everytime and it really improved over the last half a year. I can imagine yours is almost perfect by now. Toothpaste pills is my discovery here! Thanks for this! Good luck mate
I love that you have a PlayStation controller. At first I thought, surely that's a bit unecessary and takes up a lot of space! Then you explained why you have it :) totally worth it. Also, is it a Hull accent I hear?
Thanks Mike. Sure, I think so too :) I believe that's what I was trying to show in this video. It's okay to take lots of stuff when you travel but just keep in mind that you have to be the one to carry it. Ha, indeed it is, we seem to be multiplying on the internet :) p.s. cool video on "How I Beat Procrastination", great tips.
Chinese parents and relatives always worry about you being too less, such as one cooker, and as the younger generations, we have to release their worries by agreeing with them. Having a fight for saving spaces right before a trip isn’t good either. Some even wait in airport to check if their kids can add more items into their luggage 🤣 Wanna try one bag travel one day next time when I travel abroad (done it domestically by sneaking out from home 😂 they really reduced thru time!
Very helpful perspective - both what you carry and the four categories - as I plan to go nomadic in the next year or so. Question: How many liters is your current bag, and what is your typical loaded bag weight? Many thanks!
Thanks Sam! Glad to hear it! I hope eventually everyone can choose how much they want to work. Hopefully, the last year or two has helped companies to rethink how people work and that they can manage their own time effectively. Wishing you the best :)
Couple of questions, if I may - ❶ I noticed you have the same trimmer I have. How do you prevent it from accidentally turning itself on when in transit. I have had that happen to me on several occasions as the power button is pretty sensitive. ❷ How do you lash on the water bottle to the side of your bag? ... a video on that would be helpful.
Hi, no problem at all, thanks for your comment :) I talk about this a bit at 2:49 in the video. I simply wash them by hand if I don't have a lot to wash or place them in a washing machine if there are quite a few things to wash.
I am female and people call me homeless, especially bc I like to be away from home for few days . Then I pack minimal and strategic. But hey u get used to it and at some point u realize how much more you enjoy in your life and how much more you know compared to them. Just ignore them .
It may be time to do a video update. With many airlines adopting a 7kg weight limit for all carry-on items and only underseat bag for free, an updated travel strategy may be warranted.
3 great books, tho I have difficulty following the kondo method ("get rid of what does not bring you joy" )... I chafe at having to cut down on travel items; ideally I would like to travel as tho' I was going on a transatlantic steamer with lotsa suitcases 😀😀...but these @#$& budget airlines...they ruined everything 😂😂 Still it is a joy to learn how to pack light. Thanks!
You sure can... I do my best to say clear of spaghetti ha. I'm still on the search for the perfect ethically sourced/colour/brand of t-shirt. Pretty much all of my items are still a work in progress even after 4+ years.
Hey nice video, thanks for sharing. Are you OK with wearing same running shoes for all seasons? Even in Winter? Just packing my own bag now, and boots takes one of the most spaces..
just a thought.... i always wear my heaviest footwear on those flights and days i'm travelling to lessen the weight and space taken up in the bag. alternatively, a trail runner style sneaker will do the job year round, unless you are walking through snow ! happy travels, Walkie Talkie Traveller :)
Clean house clean mind. I wish I can show you my car and my house is a pigsty. I have low energy just to live in this kind of conditions, since I live the van life is hard to have space for tools and your personal stuff I hope next year I can get a house and change everything and reorganize my life
I own a GoPro but the top down shots along with a few others are shot on a set as I work with quite a few production studios where they allow me to use their space and equipment whenever I'm back in the UK. I'm a huge believer in renting items too if you don't use them a lot the time.
Not at all, I'm confident in my skill/ability to earn money as one of the keys to life is to 'learn how to learn' so you can adapt easily to life when it changes and learn a new skill if necessary. Also, I have designed my life in such a way where I don't have any huge bills like a mortgage, pets, children, cars, lots of expensive pieces of tech, phones, clothing etc. I buy some expensive things but they're not a constant monthly outgoing. Thanks, I'm glad you liked the talk and hope you found it useful :)
If clothing brings you joy and you love buying clothes then maybe look at ethically sustainable clothing. So clothing with good sustainable materials (even if they cost a little more) and where people are treated well and paid well with zero slavery involved. Then when you buy clothing (even if that's a lot) you are supporting a healthy system then you can work on managing the word "more" (buying less) over time. I hope that helps :)
@@nancykim4405 Oh wow, I forgot to put it in the comment! Just added it in the above comment. Here's the link to the video again: ua-cam.com/video/4GX6a2WEA1Q/v-deo.html

@@TravelGoExplore That is very true - and while I love my career, I would love one that I could do remotely. Time to start brain storming......

I'd already say I'm a minimalist who travels, but honestly this is life goals. I hope to be in a similar position in 10 years time.

Toothpaste pills are such a great invention! Much less waste and higher packing density. Love them.
Excellent video Michael-thank you for sharing!

Cheers Tom. No problem at all. Thank you for sharing the information on your channel too, I love it! :)
Good to see you again, i was waiting for an update since 2017, from your "everything i own" video ! We look for another amazing video ! Keep up!
Michael. Best minimalist packing video I’ve seen.
Very nice packing list, I'll have to check out those glasses. The dopp kit looks interesting too
Very inspirational. Thanks Michael!

This video serves as an important reminder. Maybe I don’t need all my “stuff,” maybe I just need to travel more

Foldable sunglasses are a great idea 😎
It is!! Does someone know where to find the model from the video?
Loved the video. Keep going with the videos if it's your thing cuz they're really good! I now feel like doing the same but I have a long ways to go. 😊

where you get those foldable sunglasses from?
As a black man i’m afraid to do this because people would think i’m HOMELESS🤣🤣

Thanks for the recommendation. I've had this on my wishlist on my Google Play account for a while so I may just buy it as my next book, thanks :)

great video mate.......are we allowed to bring in the cabin things like army swiss knife, multitools with sharp objects?
Love it

1:08 Where I can fin those red and white "shoes to fold" ? How they are called?
Nothing's white in by pack, I've learned that I can stretch much further with dirt colored items.

How many litres do you recommend for the backpack?
1.The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up -Marie Condo
2. A Monks Guide to Clean House and Mind
3.How to sit -Thich Mhat Hanh
I am also a big fan of Thich Nhat Hanh. I just ordered the monks guide book too.
What is the patagonia backpack you use in this video?
😊
Which bag u have used ? Please tell
Question: what is the backpack you are using in that video?
Is the Patagonia Stormsurge 30 L
When I bough it, it was called "Patagonia Stormfront Pack 30L" but as Antonis mentioned they might have renamed it to Stormsurge.
