Love these kinds of videos. I have been a one bag traveller since the 1970s. Since the 1980s I use a Trager travel pack like yours which can carry up to 2 weeks of stuff and still fit under the seat of even a puddle jumper. It has backpack straps, a handle on the long and short side, and a shoulder strap for different types of carrying. I hate bags with wheels as it cuts into space and adds weight. I hate vying for overhead bin space or checking bags. For your 4 day trip I would have only packed ONE pair of pants not 2 and worn the other. One pair of casual shorts. One workout short. NO workout tshirts: I would have used one of the used daily tshirts you packed for working out OR I would have made one of the daily tshirts an Adidas synthetic running tshirt that can be rinsed and airdried overnight. As for underwear and socks: I see you packed nice gear. For travel, I make it a point to pack OLD underwear, socks, and even some shirts that I can jettison without guilt. This means my pack gets lighter and has more space as the trip progresses. I don't pack soaps and shampoos as hotels provide those. I DO pack toothpaste, toothbrush and qtips/floss but all are jettisonable as well. I too carry a pen/pad, a small power bank, phone, overear bluetooth headphones, and MAYBE an ultralight laptop if needed. Any needed jackets I wear.

One bag travel for me means every clothing, underwear, socks, pants is in a set of 3 pieces. Not more. Do laundry every day or 2 days once. It is a discipline. If you forgot or lazy to do laundry for 3 days, you would have nothing fresh to wear and stink. That would be a delight to get ourselves clean while maintaining minimalist 😊

I went from a 50 liter suitcase to a 24 liter backpack. I bring enough for 5 days when I'm traveling to a warm country. I just bring quick dry clothing when I know I will wash some clothing.

Far from a minimalist, 4 days in Florida I can be comfortable with whatever I wear and fit in my pockets.

A 4 day trip for me is just a 18L pack. A 28L can get me up to 2 weeks of travel. Pack minimally 😅

I just got back from a 3-week safari trip to Tanzania. I packed in a 25-liter Pacsafe backpack and a small fanny pack and did just fine.
The key is to pick fabrics that not only work in the climate you are going, but to also keep a close eye on the weight of each item and how much room it takes up in your bag. I strive for tops to weigh around 4 to 6 ounces each. Pants and bottoms can't weigh any more than 10 ounces each. I will weigh each item on a kitchen scale (I know...weird). In addition, when I roll or fold up each item it can't be any bigger than a softball. Baseball size is better. This might not work for things like sweaters or jackets, but it's a good rule of thumb and you can always wear those on your body.
Unfortunately, since I tend to travel in developing countries, my first aid kit is HUGE. I've been trying to get it down in size, but it sure came in handy in the wilds of Africa!
Keep up the great and funny vids.

This was real efficient. TBF, you could easily use that backpack to pack for a 2-3 week trip to South East Asia if you do it real smart.

Wow That's a whole lot of stuff for 4 days. That size bag and you should be able to pack for a week so that means you could travel forever doing laundry along the way.

  • @1958zed
    @1958zed 10 місяців тому

One thing i do is roll my T-shirt/undershirt, underwear, and socks into a single bundle (shirt on outside, socks and underwear on inside). That way, I just grab the complete bundle with everything I need, instead of having to rummage through the bag to find each item. Yes, the rolled bundles are a bit large, but they still fit in my bag just fine. Like you, I'll have one bundle for each day of shorter trips, and no more than 7 bundles for a longer trip. (I have no problem taking a few hours of downtime to do laundry someplace.)

  • @WrldExplorer

I tried that, it was a hassle. I watched a ton of videos, and soon as I arrived at the airport, 90% of people had rolling luggage. Once my trip ended I understood why. All that weight on m back, made my feet hurt with all that extra weight. If I’m staying in one place for awhile with side trips, I’m bringing a check in, and a backpack as empty as possible. For a week, carryon roller and backpack. Unfortunately my CPAP prevents me from doing carryon most of the time to where I just say screw it, Im taking my check in.

Hi Ian I'm from Australia love your channel I love going to Vegas but I watched this video all I can say is the size of your bag is my personal backpack with my wallet, phone, liquids, ect a women's handbag. There would be no way my items for 7 days in Las vegas would fit in your bag. I normally take 2 large suitcases with about 15 pairs of shoes when a only wear maybe waet 3 pairs. I'm an over packer and one of those that say just in case. The bag you had maybe be used as a weekend getaway. I can't do it I need my suitcases that stay at the hotel anyway and then when I leave I drop it at curbside drop off at the airport but thank you for showing me but I will invest in packing cubes.
    Thank you from Australia 🇦🇺

I still am female so like to pack mini hair iron makeup some nice clothing items plus longterm need set of thicker clothes and meds as asthmatic. Dont believe can pack like 7 kg with no extra personal item as that s what many airlines now specify unless you check in stuff and after last faux pas vowed neverever to check in luggage again. Used to use 40 to 45l cabin max now want to use 30l cabin max metz as 0.7 kg...

I reorganize everything so any clean clothes go in the same packing cube while dirty clothes, including socks and underwear, get folded and put in a different cube. It all fits into my bag more or less in the same way I packed it in the first place.

Please be more careful when producing your content . At 01:37 you showed/implied you are flying Spirit airlines. For a personal underseat item, the max limits are 17h x 14w x 8d and the airlines uses a sizer to measure bag compliance. Your Tortuga bag is 20h x 12.2w x 7.5 h in inches. which would not be in compliance by size and may not fit in the sizer should a traveler pack it to the dimensions of the bag. Should it not fit, a traveler would have to carry-on the bag at the gate for a $99.00 fee with Spirit.

What's the weight of the bag after it's fully packed? I'm guessing it's over 7 kg which is the upper limit for many international airlines. By the way, that's a lot of clothes for four days of travel.

To be fair, it all fit in the bag and a second bag wasn't used... But still.

Another thing. How the hell you fly budget but yet took the tortuga 30L which is carry on sized?? 😆 You did get it all in one bag yes but goddamn 😆 i can fit a week into my north face basecamp duffel XS and still fit it as a personal item 😆

Also too many clothes, massive flip flops and an a large Adaptor you "really like because of the 4 ports" and 1 cable. The videos are ok but found those things not thought about. Also that deodorant was huge
