  • I had the opportunity to learn all about the HIMARS in the last few weeks and even got to go see them shoot. I can definitely understand why people all over the world want to get their hands on one.

@@mkvenner2Nope. Effective tax rates have remained fairly stable since the 1960s despite tax cuts, because every tax cut has been accompanied by the elimination of many deductions. When the top rate was dropped from 70% to 28% in the 1980s, the actual amount of taxes that people in the top bracket paid only fell by 1%-2%. So when people think “the rich” were ever paying those 70% or 90% rates, it means they don’t know what they’re talking about. The real issue is entitlement spending. We spend 6x as much on Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid as we do on the military.

As an 88M with a HET unit my first mission into Iraq itself was hauling an MLRS, my platoon hauled roughly a dozen of them and dropped them off somewhere and then as part of a larger convoy we circled up for the moment in a defensive position. We got to watch the MLRS’s deliver their entire payload and that was awesome to witness in person. If you’re out there, I hope the crew of “Bada Bang” made it through the war in one piece.

I would not want to be a military that has to go against those things (especially if it is combined with the airpower of the US...)
Russia is already having heavy problems, and Ukraine only has the 80km range ammunition. And if I am not mistaken not the heavy payload too.
(They struggled quite a lot to take done some bridges, they hit it, put it didn't pack enough of a punch to colapse the whole bridge.)

    • @bransonwalter5588
      @bransonwalter5588 11 місяців тому

The problem with bridges is that they actually are a soft target. This might sound weird, but you don't want to go through the bridge. The way you take it out is to make it collapse. Higher weight missiles would just keep punching through more. You ideally want a small high speed projectile that explodes across the entire bridge by going to the middle of the thickness of it. If it is too light, it pockmarks the bridge. Too heavy, it splashes in the water. That is the problem. Bridges have been designed to rarely fail and one way it does that is by distributing the weight massively across the entire span. This means you effectively don't take it out until you basically cut it in half.

    • @wedgeantilles8575

I have a quick question. When I was a kid we went back and forth between Ft. Bliss and Germany. My father was ADA. (Cool fact: he was stationed in Greenland back in the 60s) I can remember the rockets outside of one of the gates. That is where I figured you were at. One of your other videos you mentioned Whataburger and that used to be only in Texas. I was surprised to find out the had branched out. My husband did basic and AIT at Sill in the 80s, so I thought that post was FA, and not ADA. Has Bliss given up their ADA status?
On another note in Choctaw there was a restaurant called "Old Germany". It was amazing. We moved to Oklahoma in 1983 (one of the 16 places I lived by the time I was 16-most after he retired) and we used to go to it regularly. It was still there in 2004 because I took my daughters there during one of our trips out to see my mom. I know Sill is a bit away, but it would be worth the drive.
Tinker AFB is of course in OKC and I remember the AWACS. They were so cool to see.
In Germany as a child I recall Chinooks landing by us. Again pretty neat.
I got to see the Spade Shuttle in person because it did a hop into Bliss or White Sands I can't remember which since he was stationed jointly at both and we used to go there a lot. My husband thought I was lying about the cold sand until we looked it up in the Encyclopedia (this was before the WWW).
Now that I have totally bored you (sorry) I'll go.
I look forward to your videos and enjoy learning new things.

Those anti-personnel submunitions look like M67 HE-Frag hand grenades with the fuse assembly removed.

If the barrel was longer but folded for transport and it was launched with a railgun assist type mechanism while the thrust catches up from the rocket so it would have a faster launch right?

How heavy are the pods and what does the support vehicle that carries them look like?

Around 5000lbs each and they are carried by a HEMMTT it can carry up to 4 pods I believe and has its own crane to offload

It would be very interesting to hear about the problems that apparently the Himars sometimes have with accuracy because of the Russian EWS's.
There isn't a lot of information about that but I am very interested in hearing some facts about it

There really isn't a massive problem. The biggest problem is GPS blocking. The thing about that is the US military has seen that as an issue since the 1970s. The difference is that you can still use GPS to go on the right track and use the rest of the systems to keep you going there when the GPS signal isn't functional.
This is better seen with the Patriot Missile. The Patriot missile system has a special internal system that tells the missile to "target on jam". Basically, whatever the source is, take it out.

@@bransonwalter5588 Thanks. So it is possible then to target these EWS ? Is there anything like the HARM Missiles ? Something that you can just let go and it will lock on the source jamming system

@@spectre1725Currently, I don’t think there’s any “home on jam” capability in the GMLRS rockets. However, the US can certainly determine the source of jamming and just target that position with a lot of rockets (or possibly just jam the jammer at that sort of range). They won’t be quite as accurate if the GPS signal is jammed and they have to use the inertial navigation backup, but they’re still more accurate than tube artillery, and you can make up for it with multiple rockets.
