Another great day in the harbor. Phil is a legend. We spent a couple hours not catching much, then moved spots and he started chumming the water with muscles and for a good hour the fish were on fire. Epic
Hi Gary. I do have a few other videos on the fishing the Jetty. As far as tips. If you can catch 3 to 5 inch smelt, use them for bait. Flyline them for bass, bonito, barracuda, and mackerel. A dropper loop rig or Carolina rig (with enough weight to keep your line from drifting with the current) rigged with a smelt will give you a chance for halibut and Bass. I like the middle section of the Wedge Jetty.
@@e8_bill Hi there! Yes. The tide affects bite in several ways. When the tide is going from high to low, or vise versa, the fish will have a tendency to bite better. They like water movement, it stirs up the food. When the tide is at its highest or lowest point (check the tide chart for the day and time you are fishing) it seems to slow down the bite. Basically because the tide is maxed and the water stops running in or out. This usually lasts for half an hour on each side of the time of high and low tide. Also the bigger the tide change from high to low, or low to high will have the best fishing. Hope that helps!🙂
Where you get ghat muscle? Great to eat besides for fishing man. Especially them sizes brothr please lmk. Ty an where exactly is that wedge at. Haven't seen that one
@@trout_spankn_dominoeacosta6914 hi there. I usually get the mussels off the docks. Or I get them off the rocks at the jetty on low tide. The wedge jetty is at the end of Balboa peninsula in Newport Beach.
@anglertoanglerfishing6652 is that the spot. Where u go towards Newport beach an instead of turning right to hit the pier. You continue going straight til the road ends. Cuz that's the only wedge I see an it's the opening of the ocean an tge boat docks. But it looks different from that one bro. That's why I ask
@@trout_spankn_dominoeacosta6914 It's really not a specific spot. It's a matter of chumming the area that you are fishing. Anywhere along the entire jetty has fish. Just a tip, try to find the deepest water close to the jetty.
Hi there ebmixez. Some bait and tackle shops have them. Maybe a seafood market. Big Fish Bait and Tackle in Seal Beach sells them. I would probably call in advance to make sure though. As far as store bought frozen mussels, I've never tried them. I would imagine they would work, but probably not as good as fresh.
@@anglertoanglerfishing6652 TY for the reply ! I’m going to the Newport Jetty tomorrow hopefully I can catch something ! Is there any other live bait you recommend for the jetty’s ?

Not sure what you mean. I laid him on the rock and he was kinda on the rag, but I didn't wipe him off. Trust me I try to release the fish the best I can without hurting them. After all the fish I've caught in my life I'm sure most of them survived. Appreciate the concern though, as I would guess that you are a catch and release guy as well. 👍

You sent a California phishing link. And fish in the new port. As soon as I learn to fish, I don’t understand, this is another state. thanks in advance for your reply

Great video. Fun day of fishing fellas!
Totally fun. Sometimes it's nice to change it up with a different type of fishing. 🙂
Great instruction using fresh mussels. Thanks for showing us how to open them. Where is best place to harvest the mussels from?
Hi Brice. You can usually get them off the side of docks, or pilings and rocks at low tide.
Non stop actions. Enjoy the video, your buddy is cool guy and funny. So many fatty butter mouth fish.
Hi Lucky! Yes sir, those Perch and Bass were biting good.🙂
Do you have any videos or tips for the wild side of the jetty? I went today and there was a lot of big bites.

Use bait thread/ elastic thread to keep mussel or other baits on the hook.
Great tip! That mussel is hard to keep on the hook. I'll have to give it a try! Thanks!👍

Surfs up the wedge must of been firing nice day of fishing
Hey there Kevin! Yep, surf was big. They weren't letting people out on the jetty, cause some of the waves were crashing over .
Are you getting the mussels off the rocks

What’s the address to get there please
do you need a license to fish the rocks
Hi there! From what I understand, you do need a license to fish off the jetties. The only place you can fish without one is off a public pier.
I believe the rule is that you can fish a jetty without a license if it is the outermost barrier to a harbor. Look it up to be sure though.
The barries still there in the back?
Hi coffeedollsvp! Not anymore. They were there for a couple of days and moved on. Seems like they are out by the jetty now.
