One thing about the HP movies, is they always tend to introduce something toward the beginning that means something later one. For instance, in the Chamber of Secrets, Dumbledore tells Harry that the Phoenix can carry extremely heavy loads and their tears have healing properties, both of which come into play later. In this movie, you have the introduction of the Marauder's Map, created by "Messrs Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs." Three of those characters are introduced in this movie: Moony (Remus Lupin), Wormtail (Peter Pettigrew), and Padfoot (Sirius Black). And of course, we learn that Harry's dad is Prongs, since his patronus is a stag. There's little to no pointless information presented in the movies.
Great reaction! Fun Fact: if you were wondering why the boggart was shifting so fast, it’s because there was multiple people in the room. Therefore it’s hard to focus on one person’s fear; it’s the reason you always have one person at least when you confront a boggart. Also when James and Lily went into hiding, they enchantments placed around their house to prevent Voldemort or his followers from entering. They selected a Secret Keeper, a witch or wizard designated to hide a secret by means of the Fidelius Charm. The secret was embedded in their very soul. Once a Secret Keeper was selected, the person who told them the secret would find themselves unable to pass the information on again, as the Secret Keeper was the only one capable of revealing the secret, whether orally or written. The Secret Keeper could tell as many people as they liked, but they must do so voluntarily. The secret couldn't be blackmailed, bewitched, or tortured out of them. They wanted to select Sirius, but he felt it would’ve been to easy for Voldemort. So they selected Peter Petigrew, unaware that he’d deflected. When he gave them up, he sealed their death. As for how Sirius escaped, while in Azkaban he saw the picture of Ron’s family in Egypt and spotted Peter Petigrew. He then transformed into his animagus form and escaped, since the Dementors were unable to recognize him in this form. 🧔🏻♀️🧑🏻🪄🦌👻
31:45 i think that this movie is the favourite of a lot of ppl because is definitely the best directing-wise. Cuarón came in with a lot of energy and approached this as an auteur, not as "just another director of a movie franchise", kinda like James Gunn with GotG in the MCU. it felt so different to the first two films and to what comes next. the symbolism, camera work and shots are one of the best in the whole series. the entire film feels youthful, creepy, mysterious and energetic. but ofc Cuarón making it a much more personal film also meant that it doesn't necessarily works with the other movies, there's a lot of worldbuilding and lore that's left out or changed and i personally think that this is where the differences between books and movies began to be more noticeable. it's an amazing adaptation and even works solo, but sometimes it's a poor translation of the source material. i definitely love it more now, that i can appreciate the filmmaking, than when i was a kid and wanted an almost literal translation of one of my fav books from the series.
I like the way that Alfonso Cuaron neatly wove the dark, macabre elements into the movie, mixing them with the more lighthearted comic facets and the character development. I like his offbeat and jaundiced sense of humor (for example, having the whomping willow pop the twittering birds). The big three cast members were now capable of handling more action sequences and emotional range and were overall much more professional in their craft than they had been. So this movie is both unique, because of its director, and a big step forward in the quality of the acting. The introduction of new characters like Lupin and Prof. Trelawny also boosted this episode.
Easily my favorite Potter movie, I know it misses a few important details from the book, but in terms of filmmaking and production style is by far my favorite.
Finally, someone who doesn't mention Romione when Buckbeak is executed. It's not a romantic scene. I'm pretty sure Hermione would have hugged Harry if Ron hadn't been there.
Professor Lupin knew to come there because he had the map and saw them at the Shrieking Shack. Professor Snape found out because he was coming to give Lupin his Wolfsbane potion (A potion that allows a werewolf to retain their human mind after transformation so they can just sleep off the full moon and not hurt anyone), and saw the map open on the desk as Lupin had not wiped it prior to leaving, also why Sirius asks Remus in the midst of his transformation: "Remus my old friend, have you taken your potion tonight?"
I've watched you watch the first two, and I'll watch you do the remaining movies, but if I was told I could only watch one reaction, this is the one I'd watch.
Really? Most things they left out in all the films very much improved them. Like that Harry prefers flying on a broom to his flight on Buckbeak. Makes for a nicer scene when Harry enjoys it. I guess they could have introduced Cedric, but he is so useless to the story after all, so why waste screen time on him in this one?
Good point. One of the best things Rowling did (and a hallmark of British fantasy writers, actually) was to call on the host of mythological and legendary creatures from every part of European heritage -- trolls, dragons, centaurs, werewolves, hippogriffs, etc. This keeps that lore and culture alive and brings it forward in relevance to entirely new generations who otherwise would never know or appreciate this storytelling heritage, which goes back thousands of years.
loving these reactions! Something to note that isn't really obvious in the movies, The Marauders map was made by Remus, Sirious, James, and Peter (Moony, Padfoot, Prongs, Wormtail), As well as the Shrieking Shack having the name due to Remus transforming there every full moon, The Womping willow was planted to hide the secret entrance. The other 3 marauders learned be be animagus (which is a pretty tedious thing to attempt to even learn, Taking over a month to complete and several steps that are both time bound, and can fail, Like keeping a mandrake leaf in your mouth for a month, and a silver teaspoon full of dew from a place that has not been touched by sunlight, or humans for a week.) just so they could be with remus while he was turned, since werewolves can't "Curse" animals, Like they can humans, and they were able to keep him in check in his werewolf form for the most part, Its also stated that wormtail was perfect for hitting the notch on the womping willow to make it stop... well, Womping.
Yes, the one thing this movie did not have time for was the back story of the four friends, which really adds to the understanding of the plot and introduces a whole cadre of characters that will be key in the rest of the series. But maybe the TV series will be able to do more flashbacks.
I think number 3 was my favorite of the first four movies, but number 5 for the entire HP series. They had a lot of ground to cover in that film, and it was masterfully done.
My favorite things about Prisoner Of Azkaban: 1. The Dementor attack on the Hogwarts Express. (Perfect dose of horror and suspense). 2.The song "Double Trouble". (Which is a nod to the witches from the Shakespearean play Macbeth) 3. Hermione punching Malfoy right in his smug face. 4. The introduction of Gary Oldman as Sirius Black and David Thewlis as Remus Lupin. 5. Harry flying on Buckbeak's back over Hogwarts (SPECTACULAR scenery). 6. Harry learning to use The Patronus Charm from Professor Lupin. 7. Harry fully using The Patronus Charm to save Sirius and himself at the edge of the Black Lake.
The reason Snape knew where they were is because he brought the wolfsbane potion for Lupin but he had seen Peter Pettigrew and Ron entering the willow passage so followed and he left the map open for Snape to see and follow! Harry is brave (hence a Gryphindor) and has to be as he will have to face Voldemort.
😄👍 The one element of this film that I have a lot of trouble wrapping my head around is the fact that Hermione has a portable time machine, and she only uses it to be in different school classes at the same time...I think it's safe to say that most people would probably use that device to rule the world. 😁 Why don't the three of them just go back 13 years and kill Voldemort before he kills Harry's parents? 😋 When one sits back and really thinks about it, that little spinning amulet instantly renders who ever controls it completely invincible. Not even the elder wand can do that. 😜
Yeah, it's a testament to how much they trusted Hermione that they let her borrow the time-turner. But you can tell they drilled into her head how dangerous it would be to abuse the power.
Legend has it that Emma Watson (Hermione) actually punched Tom Felton (Draco). According to the story, the director just wasn't happy with the shots they were getting of the punch, so Tom told Emma to go ahead and really hit him. She did and that was the good take. That's dedication to the art. (May be apocryphal.)
In the books it’s mentioned that, before he became Voldemort, Tom Riddle applied to teach defense against the dark arts and was rejected. It’s implied that the reason Hogwarts can’t keep a teacher for that position is because Voldemort cursed it out of spite.
I just found your channel and you have a new sub,I just watched the reaction to the exorcist and loved it as I was 13 when it was released.I highly recommend you react to repossessed which also stars linda Blair and Leslie neilson as the priest.
Harry Potter and the goblet of fire it gets darker then the others my favourite one is Harry Potter and the order of the phoenix the 5th movie well Harry Potter and the deathly hallows part 1 and 2 is insane movies the darkness
this is the best HP movie in my opinion but it does have one major flaw that to this day i’m surprised nobody on the production team caught before they released this film…in the beginning of this movie Harry is clearly PURPOSELY using magic outside of school which he knows is illegal and that the Ministry can track when magic is used around underage wizards, now that change from book to movie on the opening scene is fine if they leave it at that but just a few scenes later they directly contradict themselves by having Harry in front of the M.O.M worried about being in trouble for ACCIDENTALLY using magic on his aunt and having him state that underage wizards aren’t allowed to use magic outside school
I think the line is whether you used said magic in front of muggles. No muggles saw hin reading in bed. Also reading-light magic might not be worth the ministry policing it. Also the magic world is full of hypocrisy, that's kind of the point.
@88happiness clearly you never read the books, the ministry knows immediately when magic is used around underage wizards and they don’t care what level of magic is used, in the Chamber of Secrets after Dobby used the Hover Charm Harry got an official warning from the ministry threatening expulsion if anymore magic was detected at his house
I don't know if you noticed, but just before Harry fell down when the bus arrived, there was a wand casting sound. I believe it knocked him out of the way of the bus. So, who casted the spell? 🤔
It's explained in the book. The wand sound is Harry accidentally calling the night bus by pointing his wand at the curb as he fell backward. He fell because he stumbled backwards over the curb because the dog (Sirius) startled him.
I adore all the films from this point on. I think the first 2 films are very American, sort of 90’s, Matilda-esque sort of magicky, magicky and very fantastical. Every film from here on just feel so spectacularly real. I can believe this whole world exists and it’s a secret, it feels like real life, so grounded and legitimate. I believe magic exists like this. Just the look of things and the lighting. I don’t feel the first 2 films had that. They were sort of more Peter Pan ‘I do believe in fairies’ type magic
If the authorities can tell when underage magic is being performed, and if the consequences are so serious, I wonder how he got away with performing the lumos spell in his bedroom. This was my favourite of the books, but I felt the film was a bit of a let down. I still enjoyed it, but I had some issues. Mainly, it left out some really important things from the book. I get that they can’t get everything in a film, but they still found time for things that weren’t in the book that took up time without progressing the story. The one good thing I will say about this, though, is that J Rowling has said she only introduced shrunken heads in the later books because she really liked what they did with them in this film.
Well, the time travel plot sucks because of its weak setup and lazy execution, but GODDAMN this film has the best cinematography and some of the most creative choices in the whole series. Using the seasons to show the time passing or the constant shots of the pendulum watch in the gatehouse to mirror the theme of this film (i. e. time), and so on. There is a reason why Alfonso Cuaron has received two Oscars by now. That man knows what he is doing. Also the last film scored by Williams & Co. who gave us such gems like „Double Trouble“ (frog choir) or „A window to the past“ which plays i. a. when Lupin and Harry are talking on the bridge or in the woods, and also when Harry finally conjures a Patronus by thinking of his parents. It all works on so many levels. Mike Newell never stood a chance filling that shoes, even if he had cared.
Could you please start marvel cinematic universe? This is the biggest franchise is tne world containing more than 27+ movie and 10 + tv show. But its main phrase consists of 23 movie continuous movie containing iron man , captain America, thor trilogy, spiderman and the most important Avengers movies.
Tom Riddle once asked for the Position of Defence against the Dark Arts teacher, twice, first with Amando Dippet, later with Dumbledore. Dippet told him He was too young, many years later, after several changes and taking his title Lord Voldemort, He tried again with Dumbledore. He saw right through his motives (No spoilers) and denied. No DADA teacher would stay for more than a year afterwards

Yes, Azkaban is the best HP movie.
I really like Dumbledore's, "Did what?" When he knew exactly what they accomplished. 😊
One thing about the HP movies, is they always tend to introduce something toward the beginning that means something later one. 21:12 So wrong on that! Rats are very sweet and smart. Only downside is how short lives are of these precious guys.

My least favorite Harry Potter movie, but I am excited for the fifth and sixth one!
