Since it's cheap to make drones out of foam-board, why didn't you go for specialized design? i.e, a scout and a transport pair? The scout could pinpoint (1 or more) drop coordinates and the transporter delivers only what is required. If one transporter can't handle all of the drop, you could split it up between 2 or more transporters and just have a steady drop stream. Not to mention other advantages of specialization.
Really exciting to see collaboration between a global org like NXP and an agile grassroots/accessibility-focused team like Flite Test. I'm watching to see what the plans, specs, and resources are provided to get started with the featured project in this video.
Given Flite Test is US based, and many are AMA members, will you also provide guidance on how to explore this project safely and within local airspace regulations? This would be extremely helpful whether I can join HoverGames or not. GPS, and waypoint nav goes quite a bit further than a 4 channel park flyer :)

I was at my grandparents house a remote ranch hard to drive to in a hurry.
I suffered from a very bad asthma attack.
Luckily my dad was a pilot and was able to get in his cesna and do fly overs
finally dropping my medicine off.
I don't have a pilot's license so this could be very useful for similar circumstances.

Us in the Civil Air Patrol would very much love simple stuff like this. It could teach our younger members on the importance or aviation on the small scale and get them into the world of STEM.
It’s even better that this could actually be use on our Disaster relief and Search and Rescue.

this is awesome im a tech and do work at NXP here in Arizona! im always watching what there doing and wish i could make the jump to engineering stuff.... i do it on my own in my free time just wish i could be doing it professionally at this level..... maybe in the future !!!!
I hope we'll get to see more of what was covered in that final montage. I'd love to follow along as it culminates in an autonomous VTOL craft.

When I saw the episode image I thought, cool, two of my favourite FT planes mashed together. The goblin and spear get flown every time I go out.
I'd love to see you build a plane that runs / charges from SOLAR and can stay up in the dark. If anyone can make it happen, it's FliteTest. I imagine the success of such an accomplishment would have significant gains in future builds and designs.
Josh's vision for FT is so compelling. God's speed to the whole crew. Awesome, totally awesome.

OK, plan or kit , I'll give it a try ...while I haven't programmed much the last few years, I know a few young IT types ....maybe they can help, but the virus has kept them busy troubleshooting home systems remotely as people work from home , good to see you back in the shop.

Hay! Tail-sitter VTOL. :D I made one of those a few years ago, was great fun, but I never finished the software parts of it. It couldn't transition to hover mode without reconfiguration, so it was easy enough to take off, but had to be landed with low PID rates in acro mode... basically impossible. Reconfigured for hovering worked well, but was basically impossible to fly like a plane. It was fun before I lost interest though. ;)

This could bring good military contracts. We wear IFF tags on our uniforms. If someone is separated or needs rescue and the searc and rescue aircraft have to bug out, you can keep tabs on them with the drone, as well as other first responders who cant afford modern drones
Imagine not seeing a firetruck going onto the scene but instead you see a fleet of RC drones with water cups
i always loved the A-10 you guys made. would love to see some more like that maybe some jet fighters with simple builds but real look

Thanks for bringing this forward. When building the remote labs in Liberia during the Ebola outbreak, a drone like this could have carried the samples from the clinics. An additional challenge to the community, make this fly for 60km or more. The payload we needed was less than 10oz.
The potential for this is amazing.

As a request now, could you make an EDF F-104 Starfighter? They were added to War Thunder recently, and it would be awesome to see an R/C model or kit.

So, add 2 more motors on the undersides of the wings, you will need to move those ones up so it is more drone like, and double if not triple the length of the wings. And then in air after transition to plane mode, kill 2 engines (maybe even tuck them away with servos). See what happens

Im curious, was the plane powered on standing up or on its belly? Normally the gps needs to be level on start up. And normally auto on px4 will attempt to right the plane' so when its hovering it is trying to correct itself one way or the other.

That rough drawing looks remarkably like the Vought XF5U Flying Flapjack which was an experiential VTOL aircraft developed during WW2. Google it

Can you buy the Apache dive bomber or flack panzer or is it just for you ?
One of my best friends has a dairy allergy and I only realized how crazy this is when Josh said the thing about the epipen. Could the compass error be caused by the electromagnets in the motors? Since it has diff thrust it could have thought it was sideways because 1 motor was thrusting more than the other, and when it leveled out it re-oriented.
Compass needs to be well away from the DC wires as well as the motors. This is INAV build 101 and these engineers should never have put the compass inside the fuselage. They seem like a bunch of guys who are passionate about a thing but have zero real world experience. Anyone who's done any work in the field with Ardupilot or INAV could tell you that the compass needs to be on a mast to get it away from the absolute cacophony of EM interference that an electric UAV creates.
Will you guys sell the kit? I love working with pixhawks/px4's and would love to test this out! I have an autonomous FT explorer.

We used a very nice motor from the FlightTest kit. But yes other motors would work also.
