I think they wanted to make delve during development but also wanted to flesh it out with more bosses and systems. But then it feature/boss crept into insanity and they thought, wait-a-minute, we already have all those campaign bosses, why not make this the map system. Therefore, if delve comes back, I think they will completely redesign the cart system/traversal between nodes, put some delve-versions of minor bosses and ALOT of new bosses in there since they have to diversify it even more now so it doesn't feel like "Atlas, but down".
The decision to flesh out the endgame before finishing the campaign was genius. As a result it looks like we’re in for a hell of a treat in EA. Certainly more than I was expecting.
Especially because its xmas as well... I think their goal was to keep us playing. What we are getting is mental... Blizzard probably needs to take some notes here.
I daydream about the ARPG I want and have been writing my stuff down for years, much of which was inspired by Delve. This new endgame is VERY close to the ideas I've written down, including the stuff like THE nodes, biomes, revealing towers and buffing towers. I am unbelievably pumped for endgame.
I like the endless element. It's one of the things I like most about Delve. I'm someone who in other game types and genres like exploration elements. Delve is fun in that when you progress and clear out the darkness and you catch sight of a rare node type, or you reveal the edge of a city. It's always fun deciding where to go next. I was not holding out a lot of hope for Delve in PoE2. With the way gold drops were balanced in Settlers I kind of felt like they were trying to move away from "out of map" game modes. With the new mapping system, I am so relieved. I can't wait to clear the fog and see what I can discover. I could see them releasing a Delve 2.0 league where the "mapping" mechanic goes vertical, and you progress down into subterranean layers. An Abyss/Delve league this way would be really fun. Doesn't need to be exclusively mines, could be caves and mines, as well as Vaal cities. So hyped for December.
@@duruzhkovivan7556 It's a great mechanic. I'm excited to see the Delve DNA fused into the PoE2 "mapping" mechanic. One thing that I hate about maps is having to "re-run" the same layouts endlessly. Now we have a truly endless dungeon setup. Sure, the biomes will repeat but hopefully you can get a variety of layouts within each biome.
Comrades the biggest agony is, I took time off work when it was originally supposed to release. Now I won't be able to take any time off😢😅.... Good luck in this endeavor comrades!!
Exactly, it seems like they extracted the gameplay ideas I liked about Delve and basically made that into an endgame. I also hope they bring back the aesthetics and lore of Delve (which I also really liked), but that is secondary. As much as I want to be all suspicious and jaded, it really looks like GGG actually paid attention to all these leagues of playtest.
I really like the new systems, but that being said I can't be the only one bothered by the visual discrepancy between the acts 'hand-drawn maps' and the atlas '3D map'
New sub here. Haven't played POE in years but I'm coming back for POE2. I appreciate your no-fuss style and obvious depth of knowledge. Looking forward to consuming your future content!
For me map colors seems like the following: Green - finished map Red - failed map Blue - selectable map White/turned off - not selectable map But sometimes the shown atlas(?) contradicts with this idea, as we have green nodes without green connection between them. I assume that green connections shows your path.
I believe that you need adjacent biomes for certain outcomes too. Like desert+sea for untainted paradise. Maybe there are superapecial ones for 3-4 combined biomes? :)
7:34 PoE II seems to have more emphasis in exploration so my hunch is that there's a hidden door / Mechanism of some sorts in one of the surrounding maps that enables access to the unliked node, rather than completion of multiple maps.
I didn't mind when The Last Epoch appeared to borrow heavily from POE, after all, a good system is a good system. So I certainly don't mind that POE2 appears now to be borrowing from TLE. They are both innovative companies and I enjoy both games.
Been saying for months delve should be reworked into overworld environments, so glad they actually did it. Now if they would make Delve 2.0 procedurally generated without loading screens that would be sick
I was sad as GGG didn't give anymore attention to delve in last leagues (which is still my favorite endgame mechanic in POE). But this new endgame mixes mapping and delving, and wow, that's seems pretty cool indeed !
I think it is necessary to return 6 portals for maps. Without it, it looks like we are being forced to play HC mode in all activities: maps, sanctum, ultimatum...
I hope for the love of god they don’t change if you die you lose access to the map. At the very least they should make it so that that map stays open but you cant get any rewards from the map like absolutely nothing so you don’t lose the possibility to move through that way but you won’t gain anything. There should be risk associated with end game it makes shit matter more and makes your decisions matter you shouldn’t get 6 chances that ridiculous it was ridiculous in Poe1. If you fail there should be loss on the players end it’s not like you’re hardcore you don’t lose your character you don’t lose gear you don’t lose exp it’s boring having risk makes the game more fun.
It would be helpful to know what terms such as delve mean. I've never played PoE 1. I've already bought my support pack PoE 2. Please explain what these terms mean. Thank you.
@ yeah and if your characters actually share the atlas map, you’ll be totally f’ed. I didn’t watch the entire Q&A but most of it and I’m surprised this question wasn’t brought up (afaik).
im sorry to tell you but im like 90% sure delve is not comming back to PoE 2 i think this is kinda Delve 2.0 that they have coated into the main atlas system (wich is auwsome btw) but i dont think a seprate delve will come for poe 2
@@JorgenPOE honnestly i hope they bring it back in like a tower kind of way, where there is these towers on the atlas map wher you can delve but upwards kinda like a defeat the tower gamemode, would be sick. and then they could add the rewards back from delve as in poe1
I wonder what'll happen if you fail the first 4 nodes around the Ziggurat at the start of mapping... I guess you gotta start a new character and run through the campaign again... Gonna be fun when people start memes about it... lol
I wonder if the map nodes have connections inside the map similar to how campaign zones work. They've already told us they have the ability in the campaign to RNG the layout of zones within an act. It doesn't seem like too much of a leap to just allow us to go to the next map in sequence using that same tech. Just hand craft some zone pieces ( if you've seen how they generate zones in POE1 you know what I mean) that do things like connect desert to desert, forest to snow, etc....
I know what you mean. I think since there seems to be a lot of Delve DNA in these, I imagine it's not impossible, maybe hard though, probably depends on how harsh the random generation is. Biomes in Delve are connected, and you transition them in real-time as you Delve. However, in Delve 1.0 they are stark transitions. But I wouldn't imagine it would be impossible to achieve a more blended approach. For example, if you're in a desert node with a jungle node directly north then the north side of the desert node have some Jungle foliage along the northern border. Would definitely make immersion feel good.

I'm super hype about not worry about what map I'm going to run. Somehow, I am so excited that they took a choice away from me.

why not make it just the normal map LOL ... make a depth element to some areas in the atlas itself xD

Blue is not attempted/you can travel to it
Red is fail

I wonder what happens if you die in all 4 maps connected to the ziggurat? I mean you’ll be locked in and unable to proceed.
