Long time healer here & that help/harm tip just blew my mind. I had no idea that was an option & will be experimenting with it immediately. My bars are about to look so much nicer.
Watching this video really showed the value of the wowhead and icy veins guides for me. Pretty much every single tip in this video I'd already started doing within a few months of playing because a guide on one of those sites mentioned it. For example, the help/harm macros are listed in the resto shaman wowhead guide for combining things like Chain Lightning and Chain Heal. I used them on resto shaman and then figured, "eh why would i not use this on the other healers too where it makes sense?" I genuinely can't imagine healing any sort of high end content without help/harm macros.
I resisted using the interactive key for so long but it has been a game changer. Not only for those things mentioned in the video (+fishing!), but you just do things so much faster in general. I started winning objective captures in BGs at least twice as often, be it azerite mining or capturing building, same with war supply chests or anything really.
insanely useful for clicking on summoning portals (unless someone is on a vendor mount) and warlock gates. Also, clicking on small objects in the game world, so long as your *camera* is generally facing the right direction, you can use the interact key.
Game sure has changed a lot since I started in 2004. I went back to Classic to remember the old days. LOL So painful. Four hooves quest in Barrens... hundreds of dead zebras. Ooooff.
i like using opie has a lot of neat features for a pretty light weight addon can set any mount or spell in game to a keybind that opens a radial menu. love opie ❤️
I use the microsoft program 'Power Toys' and use the keyboard manager to swap control and caps lock. so now i use caps lock and shift and dont have to reach down for control anymore!
I use "Shift" modifies for a lot of my action macro's. Meaning if I were to use "Shift"+"Space" to mount up, then that would cause a problem for me in combat because in PvP I jump around a lot to cast on the run and maintain momentum in one direction. Otherwise great list, I already do most of it though! haha
For the keybinds - there's alot that can be used. The most suitable way I've found is to place your little finger on "Shift" and "Ctrl" button and look how comfortably far does your thumb and index finger reach on the keyboard. After that, after you use all of the unused letters (for my instace 4/5/6 and Y/H/N), you use duplicate the keybinds with the same Shift+X or Ctrl+X. That way you have 3x more buttons to use that are mostly used in combats. Also don't forget the F1/F2 and others :)
As a more flexible camera solution, I recommend " Actioncam Plus". Same functionality as the console commands, and also the additional AC functions like over tehe shoulder /off to the side if desired,. But most importantly: Fully customizable with automatic switching for mounted /not mounted or in /out of combat.... This means you can for ex. fly with the standard camera (and not trip out and misnavigate with the AC camera angle), while having the AC angle applied as soon as you´re dismounted for better battlefield visibility.
@@justinotherday6199 second this. I use it all the time and its great. you can even theme it per character so you could have say a light themed one for your paladin and a fel themed one for your warlock.
@@Zectifin False, you do a fel themed one for ALLyour characters cause let's be honest, warlocks are the best class! Besides that very subjective comment some real advice: get cursor trail, since i got it i have no problems anymore with locating my cursor, very lightweight aswell and highly customizable
Tip: You can get a toy called Personal Spotlight from your Garrison and it makes a beam of light shine down on your character. This is very usefull in group content like raids where there are a bounch of players, and it is hard to track your own character. The builtin character tracker is good but this just makes it way more obvious, I use it all the time :)
I have my main GO cooldowns in action bars that I made huge in the top corners of my screen. I can maintain focus on the action and the other arena folks and I can see the action bars out of the corner of my eye instead of training my eyes to see them in a small WA bar or whatever. Only visible in combat so they vanish when I don’t want them.

You can pretty easily make a weak aura to turn on/off self highlight options in/out of combat. I just googled it after I watched your video and got it set up in a couple minutes.
Think the point was what can be done without WA or any other addons. Especially since some addons, WA being a prime example, are causing rather long load times so some folk want alternatives.

Shift+Space and Ctrl+Space are way better used for movement abilities like Sprint, Blink, Disengage. Since our brain connects moving fast with jumping.
I ws fistpumping into the air once you mentioned that shift+spacebar and ctrl+spacebar tip for mounting up. Been using it since 10 years or so and i can't even imagine any other way to do it, pure convenience
For AOE stuff that you sometimes need to aim precisely/or want to switch between targeting yourself: /cast [nomod, @cursor] AOE; AOE - without mod you autocast it at cursors, with one you do it normally /cast [nomod, @cursor] MovementThing; [@player] MovementThing - for totems, feathers etc. Using qualifiers like [combat] can help making stuff like /cast [combat] Combat Ress; Normal Ress /cast [combat] Movement; Mount - to have your primary movement ability in the same bind as mount New [Known: Spell Name] is also quite nice for keeping your bars tidy: /cast [Known: x] X, [Known: y] Y; Z
I’m just now getting back into WoW after a looong hiatus. Them making mouseover functionality a toggle in the settings is a game changer. No more making macros just for that function.
Ive been using razer tartarus for all my mmos, its been such a crazy quality of life improvement. I kept my wasd keys the same (middle of keypad), put my main attacks on the thumb buttons, my main utility skills around my movement keys, and use the wheel on the keypad to mount up because I didnt really know what else to do with it
I don't think I've played wow without a gamepad since 09 when I got a logitech g13 then orbweaver now tartarus. Sad to say but I'd have a really hard time managing with just my keyboard. It would be a big learning curve. Something to consider when switching to a gamepad.
I personally really enjoy playing with action targeting enabled (Options > Combat > scroll to very bottom > tick "enable action targeting"). As a caster, I dont have to constantly select a new target, and the closest one automatically gets selected for me. Obviously not as useful in difficult endgame content, but for levelling, farming, and outdoor content, it's really a quality of life option imo. (When I run through low level content for farming, I simply spam one of my instant spells and everything just falls to the ground haha) I personally have never used it this way, but you can target a player and, due to action targeting, still attack the enemy closest to you. (The enemy isn't an active target, the player is) Might be nice for healers who wanna do a bit of damage (at lower levels?) - I dont play healer so I have no idea if it's useful whatsoever.
Casting @cursor is great, particularly love it for Flamestrike...but for Heroic Leap it kinda sucks, half the time you have your Heroic Leap targeting template out you can see it's clipped on some weird piece of terrain or invisible wall, so despite it taking a tiny bit longer, I keep that one on default cast so I don't jump somewhere stupid
@BellularGaming Surprisingly, and likely at the cost of disgusting others, I don't use letter keys for key binding (might change that after this video). Instead, I use keys 1-6 and F1-F6. If I play a healer class, I use 1-6 and Mouse Buttons for my beneficial (healing) abilities, and F1-F6 for Damaging Abilities. ` is for interrupting and scroll wheel click is for speed buff (sprint/stampeding roar and such) A, W, S, D for movement with double mouse-click (hold) for precision movement, tab for targeting, ` for interrupts, 1-6 for primary abilities, F1-F6 for non-primary abilities, Shift+1-6/F1-F6 for primary CD's, and 7-0 for non-primary CD's. Effectively consolidating my hand placement to 12 keys 90% of the time. Special perks to anybody, who like me, has a keyboard with their 1-6 and F1-F6 keys .000001 centimeters apart xD (Exaggerated, but they are closer to each other than other keys by a reasonably efficient distance)
for mounting i use shift left click, right click, and middle click. left for my main mount, middle for transmog/trader mount, right click for water/gathering/other mounts.
Oh my gosh! I play a vulpera rogue and trying to melee a tall boss in a raid is nearly impossible - I get lost all the time! Thank goodness my raid partner sent me this video! Now I have silhouette enabled and my DPS is so much better!!
I use a G600 12 button thumb pad, using the mouse's app remapped keys to the numpad, then in game used one bar to bind the numpad key to the bar. Saving that as a master lay out no mater how many classes I will always have the custom binds for the mouse. Also if you still want the sit keybind Ive used the page down as thats just used for the chat window which you can just mouse scroll. I also bound sheath weapon to \ as its helpful for seeing weapon out or not when moging
Shift+space is defaulted to toggling the scoreboard on and off. If you get into a wintergrasp and the exit button doesn't show (for example you are in a siege mount when the match ended) and you've unbounded that function to make it show, you'll have to find another keybind to show it again otherwise you're essentially soft locked for people who hasn't realised this.
Tip from me: remember you can use mouse wheel up and down as keybinds. This is what I use for most common attack spells, and it really lowered the use of my keyboard ☺️
Whatever happened to the video of you guys revealing your UI's with the addons... I pretty much have modeled my UI after your DF video, that was amazing.
I am someone who enjoys playing the game without add ons, and the default UI has come a long way and if you set it up properly, you can seriously increase your effectiveness in dungeons and raids👍
I would love to see all these things for classic aswell. I always force myself to use an addon like ElvUi because the default UI isn't looking good and isn't versatile. In retail it's much better.
I've been telling people forever to use ESDF instead of of WASD. Also, get rid of turning and bind strafe to S and F. Use your mouse to turn. This unlocks a shitton of extra keybinds, enough to where you generally don't have to use modifiers. The way my hand rests on the keys (canted hard to the left, it helps a lot with minimizing wrist pain) makes using shift cause problems with my pinky after awhile, so eliminating it's use helps a lot long-term.
I just tend to keep my binds under 15 total keys, after that it starts to become exponentially more difficult to keep track of what im pressing vs keeping track of the ever increasing pace of the game, not to mention also trying to remember alts and their various binds. Im tired boss.
I'm a keyboard turner so a lot of this doesn't really apply to me since I click on my abilities, but the camera stuff in particular seems like it'd really help, I can't wait to try it!
Would be nice to know the default console commands to swap back to if you dont like the /console actioncam basic. What is the default and how to swap back? This was not in your video.
Lately every time I log on one of my addon bars is always on the top of screen. I have to use edit mode to bring it back down to center to use the buttons. Very strange
I love these tips but hey Michael?? Pressing Z and X with your thumb?? Just me, but I press Z with ring finger for mount up and X with index finger as my interact key. Also, pro tip, use middle mouse for ping
Just some input people should know before they start puling their hairs out, if you try to cast a mouseover spell with any of your mouse buttons other than left right and middle, unless it's an instant cast it will not work on unit frames, it works on the 3D world sniping spells on targets but not there, don't ask why, assume spaghetti code and use Clique by either directly binding a spell or with a macro with it.
I would use @cursor if it would bring up the reticle if your cursor is out of max range. Having a spell cast quickly within range is nice, but I often don't want to waste an ability that uses a reticle if it's not going to go as far as my cursor.
that's why i love keyboards with memory G-keys , that's where my pet attack and mount keybindings are . i never ever want a keyboard anymore without them G-keys
+the only way they could make WOW better in my opinion, is to make it more like Ascension WOW, build your own class. Or like their CoA (Conquest of Azeroth) server they have been working on. The current state of WOW is what i like to call the No-Challenge WOW.
Not sure why they do not do this, but please for goodness sake add the coordinates in game! I think we have been asking for this for years... If you can suggest that one fix to them, please do so!
When i want to go back from Elvui to regular ui (doe to performance issues) which Folders do i need to save to keep the Elvui Interface and settings like graphics, keybinds, etc.. ?
I would like my UI to stay how I put it. Everytime I log in my bars are on opposite sides of my screen... This started when the anniversary patch came out.
I know this video is about “addonless” settings, but I’ve been using the Cursor Trails addon, and using some of the highlight features. It’s been wonderful so far.
The default mouseover casting option isn't really that great compared to custom mouseover macros but still, great that blizzard built it in. But hey, im a lowly healer, what do i know lmao
Shift+Space doesn't work that well when you're using shift and control modifiers to have multiple layers of keybinds on the same key, much like how EvE Does it.
Oof.. taken me 15 years + to learn these tricks.. always been a mouse clicker and usualy reached the numbers 1-5 and binded a letter to the remaining numbers aswell as a few letters to the other actionbars.. these tips might improve my playstyle abit 😅
5:30 rly hands is your choice, how about Brez, if your class has one theirs no reason NOT to have it on middle mouse, warlocks with there slowest cast in the game Bres can pick folks up faster then the legacy way

I literally just need one thing. Cursor highlight. Can't see where it is during fights. Especially lost me winnable fights in PvP.
there is an Accessibility feature to make the cursor's normal art a different size. some specific fixed sizes and blizz still controls its shape.
There are weak auras for mouse cursor.
There’s an addon called Cursor Trail. It’s been helpful during those chaotic fights.

The biggest tip for me is that /m is enough to bring up macros, I've been typing out /macro since 2007!

No, once you've pressed it once you can permanently pull the camera that far back and you can always change it back if you don't like it.

Why not just use TFGH, gives you full control over the keyboard like a real master
I just tend to keep my binds under 15 total keys, after that it starts to become exponentially more difficult to keep track of what im pressing vs keeping track of the ever increasing pace of the game, not to mention also trying to remember alts and their various binds. Im tired boss.
I'm a keyboard turner so a lot of this doesn't really apply to me since I click on my abilities, but the camera stuff in particular seems like it'd really help, I can't wait to try it!
Click casting as well, I think that'll also be super useful

Would be nice to know the default console commands to swap back to if you dont like the /console actioncam basic. What is the default and how to swap back? This was not in your video.
Just type /console actioncam off. That should get you back to normal camera mode.
Lately every time I log on one of my addon bars is always on the top of screen. I have to use edit mode to bring it back down to center to use the buttons. Very strange

I love these tips but hey Michael?? Pressing Z and X with your thumb?? Just me, but I press Z with ring finger for mount up and X with index finger as my interact key. Also, pro tip, use middle mouse for ping

Just some input people should know before they start puling their hairs out, if you try to cast a mouseover spell with any of your mouse buttons other than left right and middle, unless it's an instant cast it will not work on unit frames, it works on the 3D world sniping spells on targets but not there, don't ask why, assume spaghetti code and use Clique by either directly binding a spell or with a macro with it.
I would use @cursor if it would bring up the reticle if your cursor is out of max range. Having a spell cast quickly within range is nice, but I often don't want to waste an ability that uses a reticle if it's not going to go as far as my cursor.
Not only ZXCV keys, but I also rebind ASDF keys since I have no need to keyboard turn or back pedal.

We had Wide view but they took that control out of the game. we used to be able to scroll back out more than we can now and make the screen show more

that's why i love keyboards with memory G-keys , that's where my pet attack and mount keybindings are . i never ever want a keyboard anymore without them G-keys

+the only way they could make WOW better in my opinion, is to make it more like Ascension WOW, build your own class. Or like their CoA (Conquest of Azeroth) server they have been working on. The current state of WOW is what i like to call the No-Challenge WOW.
Not sure why they do not do this, but please for goodness sake add the coordinates in game! I think we have been asking for this for years... If you can suggest that one fix to them, please do so!

Shift+Space doesn't work that well when you're using shift and control modifiers to have multiple layers of keybinds on the same key, much like how EvE Does it.
Oof.. taken me 15 years + to learn these tricks.. always been a mouse clicker and usualy reached the numbers 1-5 and binded a letter to the remaining numbers aswell as a few letters to the other actionbars.. these tips might improve my playstyle abit 😅

i buy a 12 button mouse just so i can use the numbers 7 through 0 for wow. I have my mount/travel form on 7, and yak on 8
