I backed this game and really wanted it to come out for the Vita too...The Milestone was reached, I backed the game...Then the announcement...Guess I'm gonna play it on the PC, but it sucks nonetheless. And while I understand the financials were not aligning with the budget needed, I would have preferred you didn't put the Vita version as milestone. If the money from the kickstarter and the subsequent PC/XBOX/PS4 sales was not enough to pay for the conversion, I would have preferred you didn't put it there in the first place.

@Wakai Ryu Makes less sense to buy into hype and mindlessly get things without educating yourself. Some people like to see reviews and see if there's a lot of game breaking problems, not enough content for price point etc.
@@slapthekillswitch this review showed a lot about the game that i didnt know already. I just hoping for reviews to see if it was worth getting now, or if i should wait. Mainly since i have hollow knight already and havent played it yet.
@Char Aznable sotn was on console while the other good ones were handheld. Also Sotn was the first one to set up the formula so well (plus mindblowing secret half of the game). The handheld games were fantastic though dont get me wrong
Miriam's shard infusion system kinda reminds me of Shanoa's rune system, and that's a good thing because I really liked everything about Order of Ecclesia.
Funny thing about the bunny girl transformation: eating food for the first time gives you permanent stat boosts, some of which include mana regeneration. Eventually I had eaten enough food that my mana regenerated faster than the bunny girl mode drained it, so I could pretty much have it activated permanently. I'm now doing a new game+ run where I set out to do the entire run in bunny girl mode just for funsies. The fact this is even possible is just one of the many reasons I adore this game so much.
@@RepugnanciaDulzona No problem I'd say listen to it yourself first and form you're own opinion but yeah to me personally so far none of the songs sound good enough that I would want to hear them on their own.
Preordered a while ago, played about 5 minutes earlier before having to leave for work. Looks like it'll be one hell of a blast from the past, can't wait to play it later
I'm really glad this game turned out to be good, it really is a Castlevania experience all the way through and that's a good thing. I haven't experienced the glitches you mentioned but I did notice some items stuck inside walls and once I became unable to jump in a pool of water. My only big complaint is that object collision and physics really could use some polish. Anyways, great game, but still not complete without nthe promised DLCs imo
I would also add that what you should kill depends on what you need to upgrade your weapons/armor. Don't just grind whatever is front of you, kill your marks and kill things that let you craft powerful items to help your build.
@@Argol228 They required less money for their kickstarters. RoTN had 6M dollars to be made. I like the game from the first 4 hours I spent on it but SoTH it ain't. I'm scared about Shenmue 3.
@@roiitzkovich4545 the ammount of money means dick, Divinity original sin 1 and 2 and Pillars of eternity a large complex RPG, if anything, the fact that they managed to be good with less money is an even bigger statement of how good they are. Also SOTN is not the be all and end all of Castlevania, it's understandable to have a bias, but Bloodstained is closer to Order of eccelasia, which is better then SOTN IMO
I'm having a blast playing this. 6:35 no kidding I just recently went to the underground cavern and it took me an hour and a half to finally get the shovel armor (Shovel Knight monster) shard some monsters have a very low drop rate and in this case shovel armor has a 4% drop rate.
There are some areas of disagreement I have with your review that could put off potential players, so I'd like to express them here: #1 The graphics are not anime. The art-style is derived from the old-school Japanese games this game is succeeding. It is essentially a 90's pseudo-gothic aesthetic brought up to modern standards. #2 I think you are overstating the issues with the 2.5D platform stages. They are in no-way difficult to anyone who has played this style of game before. If there is any criticism, one could say they are sometimes too simplistic.
He's right about the second part. I feel any competent gamer could get past it easily enough (I fell once or twice can't remember) I can't really comment on the anime part
Great review it makes me even more excited to play it. Guess I'll be double dipping. Already preordered the Switch version from Best Buy for the steelbook. I'll get it for PS4 as well.
This game was pretty fun to play for a while but once I got the Familiar: Bloodbringer, I was having a fucking blast. That stupid floating sword that follows you around screaming DIIEEE and growling like a death metal vocalist having a stroke was the most entertaining part of Bloodstained of all time, and only because it’s funny and I couldn’t stop laughing my ass off. For that reason alone, I gotta give the game a 10/10. The dude who voice acted the floating sword really deserves to be crowned the greatest person who EVER lived! XD
To anyone pre-ordering this on the Switch in the U.S., BestBuy is offering a unique steelbook (Novobox FuturePak case) for ONLY the Switch version, free. I backed it on Kickstarter, but want the steelbook, which we won't be getting. Just a heads-up, as I see many people here commenting that they're getting the Switch version, anyway. Best Buy also has physical copies of Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon for the Switch, currently for sale.
Went right through the end of the video to see final thoughts. The goods are what I wanted and the bads I don't mind at all. Thank you. You have solidified my decision to get this from 99% to 100%.
With food upgrades and words of wisdom, you can stay in bunny suit forever. Upgraded bunny suit pretty much beats any weapon in the game as you cet new moves with ranns
I know you people will hate me but I don't really think Igarashi is that great of a director / producer. Don't get me wrong, I love SOTN despite its flaws and enjoyed most of the other metroidvanias, but for me, all what he did was copy the super metroid formula (even the map colors), add some RPG elements, recycle sprites like crazy, almost completely take away the heavy platforming of the past titles and surround himself with talented people like Kojima and Yamane, and then he just did the same game over and over again, completely with new white haired "Alucards". Also I do not like at all the heavy anime style of his last titles; official artwork with colorful shiny chibi characters, games that take place in japan with a schoolboy for protagonist, some absurd character design that does not belong to a european story about Dracula, etc. And now he goes his own way doing exactly the same game again but with other name. Damn, even the protagonist is breaking candles to find items. I'm not saying you must not enjoy this game, probably most of you are going to love it, for me it looks like more of the same but very very ugly, scenery has no deep, lighting is terrible, everything looks shiny as hell, even the backgrounds. Anyway, thats my opinion, I will now sit down and wait for your murder attempts. Good day.
symmetricon1982 the switch almost always gets third party games late which drives me nuts sometimes so I feel your pain because I wanted to play this on switch as well but I’m not waiting for a version that will be inferior to every other version. I think for me personally from now on I’m only gonna get first party games that can only be played on the switch just because I’m sick of these third party releases being either inferior in terms of performance and resolution or costing more.
Deku na it’s all good man you didn’t sound like that at all. And to reply yea I know it’s obvious the switch versions will be inferior that’s why I’m saying I don’t see any point in buying the switch version of a third party game anymore. It just isn’t worth it when I can play a superior version of whatever game I’m looking at getting ya know what I mean? I’m really thinking of selling my switch because all though there are a lot of good first party games coming out in the second half of this year I’m not really interested in too many of them and haven’t played my switch much in general since 2019 started.
Deku see the portability was a big factor for me buying a switch in the first place as well but now over time I’ve realized that personally most of the places I go I never bring my switch with me anyways. As far as PS4 you should definitely invest in one man. There are so many exclusives for PS4 that are amazing. Sony has been on fire this generation. I play my Xbox quite a bit as well because of gamepass
Go over to gamefaqs in the PS4 topic "Bloodstained comes out tomorrow.Did you pre-order?" i called this yesterday.DCG has a habit of rushing his reviews to YT sacrificing quality to be first.
I don't care when you called it. He posted about it a while ago that he had an opportunity to buy the game early and explained how he got it on the Spawn Cast. There's nothing wrong with his review including the fact that the developers asked him to hold off until he got the day 1 patch.
This seems like a very rushed review. There is so many topics that you should have added into this review that you left out. Example: music. You did not touch on this at all. There are plenty of other things in reviews that you could have touched upon but, you left out. I like that you liked the game but, it just feels to me as tho you rushed this out to be one of the first to review it. I’m not hating or anything I just wish that you could have added more to it is all.
hello there DreamcastGuy i always love your work man . im currently playing it ( gonna go for platinum ) , live streaming it when i play it in my free time as it's currently my main game to 100%. the castle reminds me of Dawn + aria of sorrow games . same for the demons abilities you collect , and i have that GOTTA GETCHEM ALL vibes again as i'm too a completionist . and yes this game is the heaviest grinding IGA game yet , but im sooooo happy he really gave us the fans what we wanted ....... How long is the game? How many playable characters are there? Does it have new game plus? You spend time talking about upgrading and crafting weapons, then suddenly at the end you say there aren't enough ways to upgrade weapons? What? Do you think maybe that could use some explanation? This is not a good review. I will not watch your videos again.
"you'll constantly be upgrading" I finished the gaming without upgrading anything. Just bunnymorph (overpowered) + low kicks + potions + patience + git good = rekt everything.
In my opinion the greatest side-scrolling games ever I did not think anything could beat Symphony of the Night but bloodstained has done that with the replay value an extra stuff you get after you beat the game
I just wish the game was made more moddable on PC. Not for nothin' or nothin', but some Steam Workshop support would go a mile to get some... _alternate_ content in. ...yes, the Gamer Hat on Miriam. Totally not Castlevania stuff. I swear.
In my experience, its that chainsaw shard we love so much that causes the vibration glitch. But luckily most of the time if I use the chainsaw again, the vibration will go away after. Though, I do have vibration turned on, so not sure if it'd fix it if you have it turned off normally.
I customized the Miriam in my game to look as close as posible to Carrie Fernandez, just a little private tribute but considering how powerful of Miriam magic is it really feels as close as I will ever get to a Castlevania 64 sequel :)
Have you played Hollow Knight or Giga Wrecker Alt? They are both metroidvania games so castlevania-esque games are becoming more common maybe based on the existence of those despite being such an old genre.

Try Hollow Knight as well, great game :)
So far I am liking Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom too
I was actually just about to preorder this, but hesitated because i wanted to see reviews first. Great timing 😂
@Wakai Ryu Makes less sense to buy into hype and mindlessly get things without educating yourself. Some people like to see reviews and see if there's a lot of game breaking problems, not enough content for price point etc.
It's just one review..if you are a retro gamer mainly you will like it..but modern gamers will this its good to ok.
@@slapthekillswitch this review showed a lot about the game that i didnt know already. I just hoping for reviews to see if it was worth getting now, or if i should wait. Mainly since i have hollow knight already and havent played it yet.
It sounds like she has similar abilities to Soma Cruz. I did like the castlevania games that he was in.
Exactly the case.
But more applications
@Char Aznable sotn was on console while the other good ones were handheld. Also Sotn was the first one to set up the formula so well (plus mindblowing secret half of the game). The handheld games were fantastic though dont get me wrong
Miriam's shard infusion system kinda reminds me of Shanoa's rune system, and that's a good thing because I really liked everything about Order of Ecclesia.
Jim Sterling of the jimquisition gave this game a 10 out of 10 😱 .
Just watched his review it was spot on. 👍 It's such a great game.
@@nomadscorpio I'm stoked right now I have the game downloading from the Xbox store 🤩 .
Miriam can bind my shards anytime lol
The Day One patch hasn’t been released yet. They specifically said the Day 1 was coming 6/18. It’s 5 GB
Is the 3D area complaint a common complaint among players? Because I for one had no issues with it whatsoever and thought it was absolutely fantastic.
I’m more of a 2D guy but nothing wrong with 3D.
I made it a goal to support this game after that release trailer released on Xbox with the director standing his ground. Loved it.
You forgot to mention one of the most important aspects in this type of game: is the music just good or is it great? Amazing review BTW!!!
It plays more like background music it's not as upfront as the Castlevania games.
@@DragoonBB oh. Too bad then, thanks for replying!
@@RepugnanciaDulzona No problem I'd say listen to it yourself first and form you're own opinion but yeah to me personally so far none of the songs sound good enough that I would want to hear them on their own.
A giant kitty cat with horns and a floating Terrier dog head? I am sold.
IGN Review: 3/10
Too much bunny suit
Man of culture: There can never be too much bunny suit!!
Kotaku review: 2/10
Not enough transexuals
Preordered a while ago, played about 5 minutes earlier before having to leave for work. Looks like it'll be one hell of a blast from the past, can't wait to play it later
sounds fun
Favorite Kickstarter game? *Shovel Knight has left the chat*
He is getting some love in Bloodstained, even have a cameo hahaha
I'm really glad this game turned out to be good, it really is a Castlevania experience all the way through and that's a good thing.
I haven't experienced the glitches you mentioned but I did notice some items stuck inside walls and once I became unable to jump in a pool of water.
My only big complaint is that object collision and physics really could use some polish. Anyways, great game, but still not complete without nthe promised DLCs imo
It's not a spiritual sequel to Castlevania.
It's a sequel to Castlevania.
It’s THE sequel to castlevania
True
Now that you mention it, I guess you could put it in the same world, just several hundred years later.
And with a huge chunk missing.
@@benderbender-ij7ld like f**king megaman - megaman x xD
I would also add that what you should kill depends on what you need to upgrade your weapons/armor. Don't just grind whatever is front of you, kill your marks and kill things that let you craft powerful items to help your build.
My Review-Score: 9.8/ 10 !!!! This game is a masterpiece!!! :) :)
awesome game indeed~! brings back psx/gba days.
Is it a difficult game
@@2mbtrad ???
What is holding it back from being a 10/10 for you? What is keeping it at a 9.8?
@@totemlordreviews7242 no game is perfect and that's why he said 9.8 out of 10.
So glad to hear its good. I was rooting for this game and will definitely buy it. I never played Castlevania, but im excited to play this.
Nice I also gave it a 8.5 out of 10!!!
No, the twisting 2.5D areas are functional. Just some tough jumps. Those kind of Klonoa moments in the game were great.
An actual GOOD kickstarter game and for a game that plays like Castlevania SoTN? Well, I guess it's time to buy it.
battletech, Divinity original sin 1 and 2, Pillars of eternity, Undertale, Shovel knight, FTL
There are some areas of disagreement I have with your review that could put off potential players, so I'd like to express them here:
#1 The graphics are not anime.
Bro it's anime.
"They are in no way difficult to anyone who has played this style of game before"
I love how comfortable you are speaking for everyone.
He's right about the second part. I feel any competent gamer could get past it easily enough (I fell once or twice can't remember) I can't really comment on the anime part
I"m nabbing my copy today before work. Then it's an all night monster mash!
Love your reviews. Can't wait to play bloodstained and see your next review. Keep up the amazing work. You rock.
Great review it makes me even more excited to play it. Guess I'll be double dipping. Already preordered the Switch version from Best Buy for the steelbook. I'll get it for PS4 as well.
Awesome! Been waiting for this review!
XD
Man. I'm so hyped but I opted for the Switch version so I have to wait an extra week. :( Guess I'll go back to Curse of the Moon until then.
A great soundtrack always helps an imperfect game.
6:23 killing a portrait of Ronald Reagan 😂
Castlevania isn't the only Metroidvania series. There have been some great indie games like Hollow Knight.
Apparently it runs very smooth on XBOX ONE X accordingly to others.
Makes sense its a better system. Is it 4k?
red crimson102 I’m pretty sure it is.
Hand to hand combat discussed... whilst fighting a gigantic mechanized hand. Nicely done there.
Damn! I love the look of this! Nice! This totally went under my gaming radar! Nice one m8!!!
I don’t get it - Metroid invented the style but Koji Igarashi gets credited as if he created it???
This
I’m fine with the 3D sections but some hit boxes are awful, your jump at 8:18 got me like 5 times!
Yeah that's the only jump that really tripped me up so far. But I've gotten the hang of it finally lol
Where I live, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch are all getting steelbooks from Best Buy.
@@oromain - That's not what the website shows. Only the Switch version mentions it. I'd prefer it if it does come with other versions.
Its enough to make a grow man cry.
But not this man GET BACK IN THERE TEAR
Went right through the end of the video to see final thoughts. The goods are what I wanted and the bads I don't mind at all. Thank you. You have solidified my decision to get this from 99% to 100%.
playing on pc and I didn`t got any of these glitches
Same here, 12 hours so far and not one glitch
With food upgrades and words of wisdom, you can stay in bunny suit forever. Upgraded bunny suit pretty much beats any weapon in the game as you cet new moves with ranns
You mean the transformation with the handsprings and lightening legs?
Was waiting for this all day 😊
Great review, subscribed.
I might have missed it but did you perhaps say how many hours long overall the game is?
Overhyped? GTFO.
This game *is fantastic!*
Good day.
It irritates me that i have to wait an extra week to play it on the Switch.
It's very much worth the wait!
@@Andy_Paris i believe it, but it is hard not to just buy it for my PS4, except I want the portability.
symmetricon1982 the switch almost always gets third party games late which drives me nuts sometimes so I feel your pain because I wanted to play this on switch as well but I’m not waiting for a version that will be inferior to every other version.
I actually really liked the tower and their hard 3D effect.
I feel like Metroid was the start of the Metroidvania genre, but okay
Playing this game right now on PC (Xbox) game pass absolutely fantastic 👍🏾👍🏾
How do you always get your reviews up 5 seconds after embargo when it takes everyone else longer?Could it be other put more effort into theirs?
Bryan Manning damn, shots fired
Because his is already filmed as he's already completed the game. Man, that was hard to figure out.
There’s not a single other review out. Very fishy.
OMG the cute kitty and puppy monsters are adorable!!!
I’m not hating or anything I just wish that you could have added more to it is all.
hello there DreamcastGuy
i always love your work man .
im currently playing it ( gonna go for platinum ) , live streaming it when i play it in my free time as it's currently my main game to 100%.
the castle reminds me of Dawn + aria of sorrow games .
same for the demons abilities you collect , and i have that GOTTA GETCHEM ALL vibes again as i'm too a completionist .
and yes this game is the heaviest grinding IGA game yet , but im sooooo happy he really gave us the fans what we wanted ....... UNLIKE ... ERHHMM inafune ( THE SHAME!! ).
also i love Miriam as she reminds me of Shanoa my favorite from OoE .
anyone who played SotN , GBA & DS trilogies will feel right at HOME SWEET GOTHIC HOME .
looks like a spiritual successor of Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow
Not a bad review my friend. I didn’t back this on Kickstarter but I bought me a copy on PS4 physical and I think I may enjoy it
IGN review 0/10
Too much blood.
Looks like it's around 15-17 hours long.
Having finished it now it took me about 12 hours(Atleast that's what my playtime is) taking my time finding everything.
"you'll constantly be upgrading" I finished the gaming without upgrading anything. Just bunnymorph (overpowered) + low kicks + potions + patience + git good = rekt everything.
Just picked up my copy. Thank you for the great review. I can always trust your reviews man.
I swear.
Nice to see this game finally come out
In my experience, its that chainsaw shard we love so much that causes the vibration glitch.
As a Backer of Kickstarter, I'm still waiting for my game. But looking this Video, the game looks good.
Who are the patriots?
OMG, is that a West Highland White Terrier 3:15? We're fighting Westie heads? With bows and everything?
