Great tutorial, I have a log at my gym and I've messed with the log a few times prior to this video but never could get the feel for it and I felt as though the weight I was able to do was limited because of it. Used the cues in this vid and it felt noticeably better.
It’s crazy coming back to this video, Brian’s whole body somehow got even bigger and even leaner since back then. Hard to believe that was even possible. Finally got my log, so I came back for some tips.
I don't think I'll ever c & j a log but man Mr. Shaw does an amazing job of going into details explaining how to press it. I especially liked the cues of where you should feel it (i.e move it to your upper abdomen, tight back all the time, contact with the chest, etc...) he just seems like a all around good person and amazing athlete must be great to hang out with someone that is in the top of his respective sport
Bought myself a log from Titan fitness two months ago and it finally arrived! Best gym equipment I have ever used and especially with elbow sleeves and Squatting shoes , it is super fun to use and it a lot more challenging and gives better results
THANKS for the vid. BRIAN ! ! ;-) my log arrived today and aft watching this, I can figure how to lift correctly... ( I am age 58, as a former BB heavyweight champ aft 22 Years off, I found my way back to the gym THANKS TO YOUR MOTIVATIONS !!! Please keep up them great vids ;-) greeting from Austria, Franz
I just started log pressing literally a little over a week ago. found a new gym and saw a log press, grabbed it and managed to get up to 220lbs the first day then I got 235lb right before Thanksgiving failed 240lbs. Everything felt good except I had a problem rolling the log up.. well today I looked up log press technique.. and Brian shaw which im a fan of saves the day. lol I mimicked the tilting the log forward and managed to get 250lbs (wasn't easy) .. I'm 5'9 235lbs so I feel that's not to bad, especially after starting out and only 3 sessions.. POINT IS IM THANKFUL FOR THE VIDEO!! lol GOAL is 300lbs eventually.
What I like about log presses tho in general is how the grip is neutral and I like that. I mean Im use to doing regular overhead press with a straight bar but a neutral grip seems alot easier to use. It'd be nice if there was another type of equipment like the log press with neutral grips (even tho dumbells or kettlebells are options)
I'm curious why there are no Pro Strongmen that use a spilt jerk when log pressing. Olympic weightlifters have pressed equal to if not more weight than most contest logs using it, while not being significantly smaller then the average pro strongman. Is the log to unwieldy to jerk or is there another reason?
does strongman not differentiate between press and push press? the "world record" lift at 1:03 isnt even starting off the ground, the elbows dont lock out at the top, control was never demonstrated.
Log press is overhead any way so you can split jerk, press, push press etc everyone has there own techniques and different comps will have different rules some may allow things some may not and as for judging the arnold is usually judged by Magnus ver Magnusson or someone else who knows a good lift when they see one
If you were to ask Rob he would give you a complete different breakdown he split jerks the log and I think he's the only guy that does that martins does that once in a while but not very many people do that
Brian Shaw is a true champion and Sling Shot couldn't have a better spokesman. This dude is obsessed with winning and being the best!
+supertraining06 KEEP BRINGIN' THE SHAW!!!

I think i'm becoming a Brian Shaw fanboy.... LOVE YOU BRIAN
I just bought a log. I'm so excited to start log pressing in my shoulder routine.
A little late to the party but hows your log work after 3 years? You must be repping that bad boy in the high 300's

Rofl first thing I read before even watching the vid
More strongmen on the channel would be awesome. Kaz, Eddie Hall or Benedikt Magnusson.

I watched the finals last year's WSM and Shaw was amazing!
100% agree . My favorite strongman competitor . very down to earth 🌎 man
This was super helpful!!! Thanks for taking the time to explain it.
thank you Mark for the quality of these videos
unbelievable, i was just looking for a log press instructional video. not sure if you've searched youtube but there aren't many.

How can he be the world's strongest man if Dom Mazzetti is stronger AND way bigger?
+Sopaipz cuz dom doesnt compete
+NotSoSlimNinja cuz he would literally kill the competition Lol. Plus he's a 4x Mr. olympia viewer
+Sopaipz Viewer, lol.
Laughed so hard lol good comment man good comment
He isn’t as strong full stop
Whenever you guys put that particular music at the start of your video it becomes 10x better in my opinion.
Mark you guys should get Rich Piana on the podcast . That'd be sick !
even though no one in his comments section takes him seriously this would be sick. rich is a smart mofo.
+colm brogan Yes very honest, knowledgeable, and open of his drug use
Eh the most entertaining thing about rich being on would be watching fat Dan out squat him
+Joseph Siko lol
+Joseph Siko Dan squats over 700 puonds what's your point?
Shaw is an absolute monster. Cool video
Love these videos, its sick how you dont have more subs. Must tell everyone I know
Great video
Loving these videos with Brian. Strongman is the best! Would love to see Eddie Hall or Hafþór Björnsson on this channel.
Very nice 🎉🎉
Great coach
Moar Strongmen

There is a bar that has a neutral grip. Can't recall the name
I am curious about the leg drive, how much leg drive is too much? Should the press look more like a push press rather than a jerk?
Most strongmen do push press because it’s easier to stay stable, but some use jerks if they think they can keep it stable.
the loglift is pretty awesome. unlike the contortionist back-bow of hell continental cleaned axle lifts we see in strongman comps
You should get some weightlifters to ST for variety and an opportunity to grow both the channel and different types of training.
second!
We don't have a log in our gym:(
bring one in
My gym just got sort of a log but it's only 10lbs 😂
Lov seeing lil baby Brian from 2016
Get Alan Thrall on ST!

Is the log to unwieldy to jerk or is there another reason?
+Ted Zimnicki It's a bit hard to split jerk the log. Squat jerk is easier but requires more balance and mobility.
Are you Shaw?
does he recommend olympic shoes for standard strict press as well?
You should have Donnie Thompson out again, it's been a long time. He's been up to a lot of cool things lately.
What's the intro song I would buy it if it was on itunes.
Crazy how fast Brian is aging. The sport sure must takes it's toll
Beast.
Is there any with stones
If we compare Brian’s height (6’8”) when he’s using a 12” log, that’s the equivalent of a 5’6” guy using a 10” log. Food for thought.
What's the music in intro??? help plsss
I need to find a gym that has one of these

Scary man
Strict log pressing bothers the hell out of my elbows.
Zydrunas Savickas is laughing right now.
He is the best presser, or was. Big Z, pressing god.
Is his right arm smaller than his left?
Phelan Christopher Must be a very lonely southpaw.
That dude's elbows are thicker than my knees.
Brian Shaw is very strong Because He,s called The World,s Srongest Man...
Hard to hear over mark's breathing
woah early to this one
You can lap my log anyday, Brian.
Patrik Johansson you mean pencil
I have a. chainsaw how many you want..
Gotta ask Rob Kearney for his tips considering he's the champ and holds the record.
If you were to ask Rob he would give you a complete different breakdown he split jerks the log and I think he's the only guy that does that martins does that once in a while but not very many people do that
1st!!
i leg press 1050lb. squat 135 wtf?
That's normal
That log looks really small.
Brian Shaw and then you have Halfthor Bjornson
3rd?
i just want to say >>>>bill kazmaier>>>thats all
dude camera man fail. i couldnt see what your ankle, knees were doing in the lift. super disapointing.
