@@jamiecash6985 That was a great lift, I do think he really needs to do something about his diet though, he looks so much softer than the other strongmen, I think it might really be holding him back on some of the other events.
@@DutchDread Plenty of strongmen are fat, but in the very least they usually have very strong looking arms, legs, etc. Poor Bibby barely shows any muscle - he just just shows size. I think his diet needs to change too (drop 50lbs, eat better, then maybe he'll actually have energy to hit big lifts in competition consistently).

It's the same thing that Big Z and Bill Kazmaier did back in their day. Either you are a great shoulder presser or you aren't. Those guys didn't compromise. It was 95%+ shoulders as the lift is intended to be.

Eddie absolutely would have made it. He had the power to lock it out (arguably more raw shoulder power than Z even in Z’s prime) it’s just that with the ankle he couldn’t stabilize it. And at the time they couldn’t reattempt the record a few weeks later like they have been doing with records set at home. Big Z I feel is the better log presser as his technique is much more efficient. But Eddie Hall certainly has stronger overhead power. Shows it nearly every time he lifts a log or axle, and that Kazmaier like no leg drive pure raw power press is just wow! I have no doubt whatsoever that if Eddie had another shot a few weeks later when his ankle was in better shape that record would have been his. (And if anyone doubts that just go look at Eddies world record axle press...he strict pressed it and made it look easy! He had at least another 10kg in him that day. I don’t think anyone had stronger shoulders than a prime Eddie Hall)
I believe in his Prime, Big Z had no one to push him even more for the log record. If there was, he'd have done more. Now we have Hicks, Biby, and Luke who can maybe break the record soon 🔥
And we got Big Z training hard again. Excited to see what him and the guys can get on the max log at the Shaw Classic in 2 weeks. He looks like he’s good for at least 200kg right now. If Z keeps it up he may be able to increase his own record within the next couple years, fingers crossed
Big Z ws all shoulders, no leg drive. If he had good technique it would have been 230-235 easily. Anyone that can do a proper split jerk with a log will get 240+.
@Dean Florey Then we got Novikov winning WSM a year after going pro at age 24. Brian is amazing, but I think he’s 2nd all-time compared to Z’s 4 WSM titles, 2 IFSA titles, and 8 Arnolds. Zydrunas also wasn’t allowed to compete in WSM during his affiliation with IFSA. I love the pure brute strength needed to win the ASC, and Zydrunas has won exactly half of the titles they’ve given out

In my opinion the log press world record, not the deadlift, is the real "white whale". SO MANY PEOPLE have failed at 230KG. Zydrunas's record has stood for quite a long while, and before that it was almost a one man party with him upping his own record anyway. Whoever finally breaks the 230KG barrier is gonna be badass :)

I’d say Zydrunas will be in the ball park of 200-210kg at the Shaw Classic. He hit a 195kg log 5 weeks ago to win Static Monsters. If he keeps up the training he’s been doing then next year could be a big year for him

My best log press is currently 145kg, going to get 150kg soon which I thought was good going but this is on another level and very few will ever reach this.

Eddie had the right tactics. He was gonna do 220 KG to warm up to the WR at 230. But Bibby screwed it up for both of them by jumping to it and insisting on trying without the bridge. Eddie is very smart, but sometimes you just get screwed.

Its very simple - the money is far far greater in professional strongman than weightlifting, Particularly in the 'western' countries which don't fund sports like weightlifting to any great level. Plus, the Giants Live contests that this is taken from has live crowds that hit 10,000 people or more each year - and come with big television exposure. So money and fame are the pulls. Though competing for your country at olympic level in anything is a great glory of course.
Maybe he could have break his records a couple of more times, or even get the log wr or another big international title. But I don't know, he was probably one of the statically strongest ever, but he always seemed so gassed after some events. Basically anything that wasn't an event for reps brought him to his knees, like the 2015 log press or two man deadlift record. He accomplished great things on the sport and stayed a good 3 years at peak strength on it, I don't think he retired too early, he gave almost every thing he got I would say, probably 99% of his maximum strength.

213kg press is insane. A majority of the world will never squat or deadlift this weight and these guys press it overhead. Amazing.

This was around one year from when he won wsm, and two years from when he deadlifted 500 though, so it's close but not exactly his peak
well eddie did have a smashed ankle (2 weeks) and a dislocated hip(7 months) before this event but yeah anyways......
