I was reading the comments and wanted to let everyone know from someone who's gone up to the Sniffles trailhead on Yankee Boy multiple times that it does get narley towards the end. It's actually degraded over the years and there are now some areas where you're going to be a wheel up on rocks and some serious switchbacks requiring some scoped lines. The payoff is getting above the basin itself and if you are so inclined you can hike up to the Sniffles' saddle and see the three Blue Lakes on the other side. Enjoyed the video very much!
Great video as usual. Very informative for us novices. I appreciate you making them. They are helping a lot of us have more fun and not get in over our heads.
That’s great to hear and the goal… I’m in the process of rearranging my editing spot for increased productivity, but I have a lot that are all in process right now. Thanks for watching!
Epic! I tried to complete it early 1st week of June still blocked by snow! I ended up doing engineer , Ophir, corkscrew, and last dollar pass. Had the time of my life. Made memories I’ll never forget. Stayed at a Airbnb with my wife in ridgeway.. it was so nice taking trails to all the surrounding towns! We Can’t wait to return!
Yeah, it was kinda unheard of for it to be cleared so early this year. Seems like Late June to August is the best chance of completing it. That’s why I love off-roading… such a great way to explore. I hope you have a great time on your next trip too!
If I could convince Sean to come here sooner, we could maybe get it done before you were here… but we’ll be filming late August ourselves. Maybe we’ll see you out there!
Dewie I love you content and wholesome commentary. I have '19 KL Trailhawk and found your channel looking for content. I'm hooked. Well done keep up the trail riding and filming!
Thanks man! I’m hoping to pump out a lot of trail guides soon… just focusing on filming over editing right now as I have limited time off. But I can’t wait to show you guys some of these. Thanks for watching!
Love love love Yankee Boy! It’s been 10 years since we’ve been here. ...but I grew up Jeeping this with my parents. For being late May, I’m actually surprised that you were able to get as far as you did. The wild flowers here can be gorgeous. Hoping for a quick trip later this summer.
Dude, thank you! That’s an awesome comment, I’m definitely trying and I’m glad it’s noticeable. Some of the early ones are yikes. But your skills are so good… you gotta be a professional editor, right?
Dewie, our family really enjoys watching your videos. Keep up the good work. We just finished building a Cherokee XJ. Coming to Ridgway the last week of August to hit all the trails we can in that Telluride / Ouray area. Also heading to Moab for Thanksgiving this year to do some of the trails there and visit Arches & Canyonlands NPs. Looking forward to your upcoming videos. Hopefully they will help us decide which trails we can and cannot do. Also bought the FunTreks guides you mention in your videos. They are packed with information. If we are ever in the same area, would love to do some off-roading with you.
That’s awesome! You’ll have a great time! I’ll likely have three Moab ones up by then (altho I’m acting like I’m a fast editor), but my plan is to get a lot more Moab trails filmed once it starts snowing here. I’d be down if I’m free, but Sean and I are going to be in Ouray that week so I’m not sure I will be. Have a great trip!
Nice video. Not trying to be critical but the guitar was a bit overbearing in the first portion of the video. Other than that very enjoyable. I really liked the gravel noise from the camera in your Jeep and the cold wind gusts from the drone. Dont underestimate your voice in these videos. It is very easy to understand and keeps me engaged. My family rented a Jeep from Ouray and went up this trail in mid-summer 2018. We found it easy to the end. On the way back we went on part of Bird Camp. That seemed slightly more technical and views were nice just not "grand". Looking forward to more videos!
That’s great to know… I typically don’t like to have a lot of music in the videos, but I didn’t have a lot of actual off-road sounds for this one. The dirt sounds were sound effects and I may use those in the future over music, altho I prefer actual day of sounds (which would have been alt nation, octane, or lithium here). Still when I use music in the videos, I want it to be low and in the background… so it’s good to know when I don’t succeed at that. Audio editing is my biggest struggle and I’m trying to learn more so hopefully I’ll get better at it. Good to know about the rest of the trail! Thanks!
Well you should, you were my audio tester 😂. It’s a valid point tho… I hate all music off-road videos, so on black bear we need some chatter as you step down off the ledges.
Great video Dewie! I just camped there on Saturday on a little pulloff just past the restrooms. Pretty cool to see your perspective from May. My favorite trail out there was Engineer pass, so I'm hoping you're working on a trail guide for that one too
Awesome! I’ve been talking to Sean about doing that one the following day after black bear and imogene, but if not, I’ll try to get it done myself. Thanks for the tip!
@@coloradomallcrawlers Sure thing. The beginning section was my favorite. I think you clarified for me that the beginning is actually called mineral creek. Will be stoked to see you guys do that trail.
That’s awesome! Lots of options for great Colorado rigs. I’d love to! The biggest issue I have is my schedule. I’m on call 24/7, but one day I’ll have this better figured out. Right now I just announce random times I have off on my Facebook and Instagram… but it’s always last minute.
Oh yeah, it’s an interesting history. Apparently the first logos used a waterfall on Clear Creek which is the water that flows into Golden where the plant is. I’m guessing they wanted something a bit more Grand and choose the San Juans for later logos. Thanks for sharing!
Love the vid. Super helpful and interesting. Thanks for posting. Want to make it out there. Do you think a stock 4runner would have any issues with this trail.
Awesome! Glad it helped… I wouldn’t think a stock 4Runner would have any issues on this trail but as of this time I’m only certain to mp 7.7. Sean and I are planning our Black Bear and Imogene guides and I think we’ll finish Yankee Boy off at the end of Imogene.
Some great drone shot areas out there! So jealous! One thing i would caution you on...technically you can't 'fly' and drive at the same time. Just warning you incase some nancy decides to make an issue out of it. Also, the added sounds over the drone footage were a little too cheesy for me.
The entire US is beautiful! The way the smoky mountains look in the morning is majestic. Appreciate the tip, as you’ll see in the drone crash video, I’m not controlling the drone when I’m driving. My drone work happens when I’m riding passenger. Video making tutorials taught me to do that and I’m still experimenting. Thanks for watching!
@@coloradomallcrawlers Was more thinking of Jeeping drone videos...most of our trails east of the rockies is through woods and you either have to try to fly the drone 3 ft off the ground, or find an opening to get above the trees...then you can't see the Jeeps! Can't wait to get back out to CO/UT with the drone to get some of those awesome shots!
