My first trip to the mine I was 17, part of my hitchhiking tour around the United States started when I was 16, I worked at the mine and also the Beaumont hotel in town, went back 10 years later with my wife and son, several times over the years, last trip 2007. I will be 90 my next birthday, don't think I'll make it back.
Awesome video! Question, how high is the ground clearance in your car? I have a fwd suv with good ground clearance with which I am gonna do this trail hopefully this coming summer! Thanks in advance 🙏
I have ridden two up on a BMW 650 GS motorcycle where the road changes from steep to double steep. With only a short wheel base and bike light front end I had to turn around. We watched two open top Jeeps climb out of view that day. Now I know what it is like way up high and the steep incline return. Thank you so much for posting.
Kates looks like a great place for breakfast. What a beautiful area. The mountains are amazing. Cool to drive in the river bed. Bill did that when he Jeep packed in Colorado with a buddy. Looks like you and Rich had a great day off roading with some amazing scenery.
I once drove a Plymouth Volare all the way to Wright's Lake Spur trail. There was a tour Jeep full of tourists, who watched me as I drove up the last little bit-a steep section crossing a stream. When I made it, one of the people on the Jeep-apparently British-said, "Jolly good show!" lol Me and two friends climbed Sneffels the next day. The only problem was when we drove back to Ouray. By the time we got down there my brakes were smoking hot.
We were a Jeep with high clearance and skid plates. We could do in a 4Runner, also 4 x 4. You can go part way in a clearance vehicle but not all the way, but 4x4 is best.
Great video because it actually shows what the drive up is like, which is important for those of us trying to plan out our adventures in the Ouray area. Question: Do you think a Ford F-150 with a basic 3 inch lift would be able to make it?
I saw a Ford Ranger going up in addition to other trucks. That said, there could be some spots above Wright’s Lake trail head that are tricky. Length of wheel base could cause a scraping if you don’t get the right line. Assume you have 4 wheel drive with low range which you will want especially going down. Best I can tell you.
How long did it take you to reach the top from the pavement? My son and I are going the last week of October and are trying to set up our itinerary time line.
@@rosescorpion Be very careful as three people were killed when their jeep went over the edge of the trail and rolled into Canyon Creek. It could be that part of the trail gave way when the driver got too close to the edge. It occurred about 3 miles in from Hwy 550. We really don't know exactly what happened, but caution should be the watch word!!!!!!!

Thanks for watching! It was great day and more to come.
Kate's is the place for breakfast in Ridgeway. Get there early as it's small.
What an awesome adventure, that honestly looked like a lot of fun!
It was fun and now working on the next one! Thanks for watching.
I enjoyed your journey and thank you for sharing your wonderful experience. The views were amazing.
Thank You! 😀
We went from Ouray to Telluride over Imogene pass back in’92 it was beautiful and scary in my ‘78Wagoneer 😳😁

I can imagine smoking hot brakes. That’s why 4 wheel low going down helps. 😀

We took our time but I would say 21/2 hours to the top plus we were stopping for pictures and video. Have fun and be safe!
@@lynnnorthrup8914 o.k. Thank you. I appreciate it.
