When I was four years old, I lost my median nerve from mid-forearm to the digits, to a lipofibroma in the palm of my left hand. The physician who performed the surgery, David E. Lipton, worked on his own and with several other doctors to understand why my left hand was working so well. Since that time, 63 years ago, I have been highly interested in learning all that I can about the nerves of the hand. Your video presentation has been one of the best instructional videos on the median nerve. Thank you for posting this work!

Hi may I ask, what test did you take to find out that you lost your median nerve?
      Thank you

How on earth did u get multiple doctors to look into
      Your case at once ?
That is unheard of unless you are a filthy rich celebrity!

WHY are people even questioning this story? Instead, we should be asking what it was that they discovered in studying what happened to him. This obviously happened many, many years ago. We know so much more about the body now than we did back then. There were, and still are, alot of things about the human body that we don't know or understand and when something happens that they have never encountered in their career, they DO ask other doctors for their opinion and bring in other doctors to take a look. I'm sure this happens all the time.

I feel a knot mid left forarm and my full thumb, partial index and partial ring finger are numb. Suprr sensutive feeling to touch. Almost the sensitivity of rubbing a area that had previously been burnt. When it started it was a bad itch that lasted a day next day went to severe pain almost as my hand was in fire, but more like i had burnt my hand and then started holding it in fire. Bbeen a few days now and numbmess and sensitivity are still present with occasional pain aches in back of hand near thumb.

I have bilateral median nerve issues which occurred during Whipple surgery that lasted 9-10 hours in duration. Upon awakening my thumb index and middle fingers were numb. Very little improvement after 2 months.

After a fall on my palm in aug 12, the distal radius bone broke right at the joint, and since then I have the palm next to the thumb without feeling and the tips of the 4 corresponding fingers are numb. 2 weeks ago I have had surgery to the bone. Please, How long will it takes to the palm and fingers to get back to normal and how can I help. Thank you!

Thank you very much now I know why I'm having problems with my hands. Both my hands tingle like their asleep it's needles and pins when I wake up in the morning. And my #3 finger will get stuck and pop forward by its self.... I have a feeling it's my nerve from my shoulder. It's both hands. When I left heavy object I feel weak in my arms.

Maybe thorasic outlet syndrome. Sounds like the compression originates up high, maybe near clavicle.

Whenever I lay down in bed at night, flat on my back with my arms down at my sides (the only was i can lay)....my right forearm, wrist, hand and fingers...mostly my thumb...start to tingle, ache, throb and intense sometimes unbearable pain...in that order. As I type, my right thum is THROBBING. I am now sitting up after not being able to lay down any longer. I am going to try flossing and pray it works. Im tired of being in tears all night long.

@SethJeeCeeDayaday I actually just found out last week that what I really have...is Carpel Tunnel. The other night I woke up with pain so intense in my right wrist, thumb and next 2 fingers...that I had to go into the bathroom and SCREAM into a pillow. I told my husband that if I had to have the pain I had the other night, every single day, I would probably end up taking my own life. It was THAT bad.

I was bitten by a dog last week and I'm guessing something along these lines is happening with my median nerve. The pain and numbness and inability to do much of anything with that hand...is annoying!
