Mahalo for going and sucking em up! That was fun! Part of the experience like you said is the ambiance and vintage feel. There used to be a blind piano player that performed there nightly that was incredible. La Mariana should be a historical landmark at this point and remains an oasis tucked away from the hustle and bustle. I think the first tiki bar in Hawaii was Don the Beachcomber at the International Marketplace. My favorite Mai Tai on the island is House Without a Key but that buggah might make your check liver light come on. Okole Maluna!
I have great memories dining here before I left home during the pandemic! I kept being told that it was closing down but I’m glad to see it’s still in business!! Mahalos Misty for taking one for the team!! 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🥃🍹🧉
Never knew Bourdaine was there. It started in 1957. It was always my go to place living there 8 years ago when the marina had the original wood docks. I was there this last winter and stunned the marina was rebuilt, the prices were doubled. I use to love their $5 House Mai Tai and best calamari this side of Italy. . The furnishings are from the ilder now closed Honolulu Tiki Bars. It was started by an Italian family and remained the most local tiny marina on the island with livaboards who used dingyboats to carry supplies to the old boats. It is all updated now. The drinks use to be very strong and all $5-8 a decade ago.
Interesting place , I seen this the other day on a traveler’s vlog. They didn’t mention there is no A/C there. The prices seem reasonable. They really should list the ingredients in their drink list 🍹🌴🌺🤙
Yes I remember when I went a while ago, they had actual menus. Now it's literally printed on a sheet of paper. Times are tough. But I did enjoy myself. It's definitely a piece of history here on Oahu.
Aloha Misty! I love La Mariana, haven't been there since 2019. You are too funny with the expressions on your face while tasting the drinks. I think I would stick to a lava flow, I'm not much of a hard alcohol drinker as well. If you do go back there for entrees, I had the shrimp gratin in an eggplant bowl, it was delicious. Have a great weekend.
Thanks Paula I'll keep the shrimp gratin in mind next time. I do love eggplant! Yes the lava flow was nice and sweet. The rest was not my thing. Have a great weekend!
Frickin’ gasoline 🤣🤣 you slay me. I’m so glad you went here and made a review for us. It’s good to know ingredients aren’t listed as my better half is allergic to certain fruit.
Hahaha.. fun video and I got a good laugh in at the 7:21 mark😂. I might have to try the Daddys Rum Punch now. Along with the Zombie just because of the name. Lol. Thanks for sharing🤙
Aloha Misty and T! Thanks for doing this review! The pupus are looking good. I am not a drinker; therefore, can’t say much for the drinks but they do look good! Looking forward to the next vlog. Stay safe and smiling! 🤙🧧😀 If you want cool, come to the San Fran area - it was 41 F this morning and chilly! Best wishes!
Aloha Bill! Stay warm! I did love the 40 degree weather when we were in Montana. But I think that's totally different from San Fran, Hawaii and Boston where I'll be going next. The ocean makes it feel way colder. 🥶
@@FoodFiend The wind-chill does make it seem more colder. Also, the humidity from the bay does make it different. Hope you have a great time in Boston - no forget the lobster rolls! Best wishes, my fellow alumni! 🤙🧧
@@kylerdad123 Will do! Already been in contact with old friends and will go to my old haunts to show everyone. Mahalo and have a good weekend my fellow McKinley Tiger! 🐅
went there today just a few minutes after opening at 11am with brother and sister in law...all our first time even though I have known about this place for about 20 years. Had the two drinks, Lava Flow and Singapore Sling just like you. Loved the Lava Flow, 5 out of 5 stars. Singapore Sling, i give it 2.5 out of 5 and wouldn't get it again. Loved their Mahi Burger with cole slaw. We all shared the appetizers of edamame (half regular and half spicy/garlic which waitress said they can do at the moment as it wasn't that busy) and the garlic fries -- that was good ! What ambience, we ALL want to go back again !
Always have heard of this place but never been. Brave to try drinks. That blue Hawaii looked weird. Don't like Gin so surprised you did. Funny when you said your second drink wasn't as bad after having several more sips...you know that's the sign of getting buzzed, right? Kidding! I'm a lightweight drinker so kudos to you for mixing your drinks. Hope you woke up then extract day with no negative side affects.
Mahalo Carol! Yes I am not a mixed drink person unless I know it tastes sweet. But thanks for still enjoying this video even though you don't drink cocktails.🍸🍹
I haven't been there since the 90s. I'm glad they're still open and appear to be doing well. Me too - I'm mostly a beer drinker. I'd probably go for the lava flow since I'm a lightweight, haha! No like get all buss.
Wow, it's still going strong. I haven't been there since the early 90's. I thought I saw on the news that they were closing a while back but I guess I heard it wrong. I also ordered the garlic fries and nachos, food was okay but we were there for the drinks. Brings back memories.
Oh gosh. One of my hangouts when my office was on Alahao St. WOW Glad to see its still thriving. I cannot do exotic gasoline drinks. Them buggas creep up on you real fast. I'll stick to Crown Royal on ice. Hot days, we'd go to Henry Louis' for a/c too bad they closed.
Yes I'm glad that it's still going and it was crowded. Aw Henri Louis'. I miss it there but haven't gone in ages. Too bad Home Depot kicked all the great businesses out. 😪
Yes the food is pretty good. The service needs help nowadays though. Our waitress was very nice, but there was only two. No one wants to work anymore and help is short. Not their fault though.
@@hawaiiguy1 I was asked back to an old job that I believed I had burned all bridges to never comeback. They must really be in trouble to ask me back 😂😂😂😂😂
It's a fun place to visit the days of tiki bars in Hawaii. Isn't seeing the water level close to the land level a bit scary? The mac nut mahi was pretty good.
Hey Sistah~Is this by used to be rainbow bay marina across from the stadium? Unfortunately I don't drink/smoke..I know No fun ya but oh well...anyhow main thing you had Fun night👍
Unfortunately no. We went on a Friday and nothing. Only 2 waitresses so service was slow but friendly. Just like everywhere else hiring, no one wants to take the job.
Misty, sorry but in my opinion, kind of a wasted vlog! Wrong person to do that kinda taste test. What were U gonna compare it to in order to give it a rating. U also should have done a little research; cool story about how it began, ...and U didn't mention it's part of the story line for Magnum P.I. Cool place, BUT won't return 'til they A/C the place!
