I love how you’re brutally honest like the comment you made after you walked out of that look funn shop 🤣 You don’t sugar coat things and tell it like it is. Keep being you Misty!!!
i more than liked this adventure, I think it was one of your best. I think that you captured the atmosphere of Chinatown as well as displayed your kindness towards Mr. Orlando. Thank you for this! Happy Holidays to you.
Mahalo for the compliment. Have you ever seen those recolorized videos from the 1900s? I hope in 50 years people will see this or other videos of everyday folks walking around saying whoa that's old stuff. 🤣
Aloha Misty!!! Soo good to see Orlando!!!! I remember your video with him. Glad to know he's here and all smiles! Nhi was happy to see him in this video. I remember he gave me a couple boxing tips too! That Roast Pork crunch sounded crazy at 18:35 and I love the quick service and Pho at To Chau. And I kind of laughed when you said "The lady is rude as ____". Lol. When the workers are rude, I'm thinking "The food better be darn good" to make up for it. Lol. Mahalo for the Chinatown tour🤙👍😋
Mahalo Sean for watching. I was so glad to see Orlando and that he's doing well. Yeah that lady needs some loving or a beer. She's a grouch. 🤣 Happy Holidays to you and Nhi! 🎄🎅
It was so nice of you to have Mr. Orlando sit with you and give him a treat! At least, I hope, it made up for the earlier rudeness of the look funn lady! LOL! I've encountered her, too. There is a younger lady there sometimes who is WAY NICER! Kind of reminds me of Nisshodo with the mean Japanese obaachan and the much nicer younger lady! When I go to Nisshodo, they usually take turns so when it's my turn and it's obaachan, I tell the person behind me, "Oh you can go first, I'm still deciding!" LOL! Haven't seen her in a while though, so I actually hope she is OK. For char siu and roast pork, I usually go to Fong's, right next door to Chun's. Meat is more lean, and the lady ALWAYS gives me a sample, usually the slightly charred end piece of the char siu (best part), or roast pork skin. I know, bad for you but hey, once in a while, huh?
I heard of the old lady at Nisshodo. I never went though lol. I was so glad to see Orlando. I'll try Fongs next time. Thanks for the funny story and tips! 🤙
I remember walking through there with my parents while on vacations to visit Ohana. Nice to see some old shops still in business. I loved to go in the shops that sell non food items like clothes, bags, trinkets, jade, and other things I found more interesting then. Your tour was very nostalgic for me. Mahalo for taking us along!

Certainly a nostalgic video--carrying bags of groceries every Sunday with mom made up a bulk of my childhood there. So much has changed, but for better or worse, Chinatown is still characteristically rough around the edges. I hope more businesses build up there and they continue to work on the crime and safety in the area. I miss the old Mini Garden restaurant on Smith St. and Hotel St.--shrimp wonton egg noodles with soup and their oyster sauce choy sum was the go to! Appreciated the video!
Thanks for sharing your memories. I remember seeing the Mini Garden but never went there. Isn't it Lucky Belly now or some trendy spot? Things have really changed.
That’s an awesome tour of Chinatown Misty! I used to think I’ve been just about everywhere there, but there’s so many little alleys and walkways with shops! I still like to go, but kinda spooky nowadays to go walking around there… 😅
@@FoodFiend I personally love the walkable neighborhoods/places because they all have something different to offer. Aloha Misty: It was nice going along with you to Chinatown Honolulu. Seeing the streets again was a joy to me this evening. Great walking tour through Chinatown. To me the place symbolizes the resilience of Asian businesses. No matter how bad crime, homelessness, and economic downturn, Chinatown will somehow survive. Sad to see that nothing has become of Char Hung Sut but good to see the vibrancy in Chinatown as a whole. $300 rooms at the bougie Wo Fat hotel? We'll see. Will have to try Chuns or Fongs for charsiu....it's so expensive these days. Thank you for taking time to check on Orlando. You were very kind to him. I'm sure he doesn't get treated so kindly very often.
Thanks Titasmom. Orlando is a cool guy. There were live crabs in the box behind me. The dead ones on ice were cheaper. I went back to buy but she ignored me and kept talking to her friend on the phone so I left and went to buy shrimp instead.
