This is one of my most favorite train videos. I was impressed with the camera views with some very unique trains and lots of switching. *Rail Yard Action*
Thanks again 232 for the great movies of the UP. Isn't that a great place to watch as one gets trains going East Yuma and Las Vegas and beyond. That quarry at the East end of the yard that I have been watching for the last 60+ years still isn't flat. Guess it will out live me before they turn it into a level parking lot.
Great Vid, sure do miss home. Used to cross over the bridge near the Target where the yard begins with my mom and sometimes my aunt back when i was a kid going to the grocery store (Food4Less). Would always get excited seeing headlights far down the tracks. Lived in Fontana. Thank you for the Upload!
Thanks for the video! I especially like the night action. I think the night shots are the best because the signals light the yard up like a Christmas tree.
spent a lot of weekends from 1973 to 1979 at this spot & at colton crossing back when the colton tower was still standing. quite fun & exciting back then compared with todays railfanning
It might say UP west colton yard ! It will always SP 's west colton yard , did you notice the 2nd and 3rd locomotives in the 1st consist ! YOU AIN'T GOT RID OF US YET!!! SP LIVES !
West Colton was built in 1972/73. It was moved from Colton Yard, approx. 3miles to the east. West Colton yard covers 5 miles from Realtio, Bloomington, Colton, And Fontana. An average of 17 to 20 trains originate from this yard. And it's the only true classification yard with hump in Southern California.
So that's where they keep all the emd units, up here on the Fresno sub its mostly all GE units which sound awesome at 60 mph, you did a great job at this video-Thumbs up
This is my hometown where I'm from has a boy that used to be nothing but great Vineyards over there we'd ride our bicycles all the way over there I'm about 3-4 miles away once we got there we didn't even know why we wrote out that way sure makes me homesick hush dry ground old weeds I said
Great vid. Really nicely shot and edited. Thanks. That is a great spot there at Pepper Ave. Interesting to see the turnout marker lights. I have not seen them before. Question: There is a double headed signal on the east side of the overpass between the diverging legs of the turnout. Does that signal govern both legs of the turnout? Does that signal control exiting moves out of the yard onto the main?
Going to Oregon you'd take the hi-line at the east end of the yard.that goes uphill .Going straight on thru past the cut will take you down the Sunset Route.
Leads-off with two SP patches - now yer just showin' off - as if 9391 wasn't showy enough :-P HA :-) As great as your vids are, this one ought to be in your top 10. I mean, CN, CSX, BNSF, and GATX power too???

It's about 50 miles east of Los Angeles. West Colton Yard was built by the SP and is the UP's main yard in Southern California.

That BNSF ACe is WAY outta territory. Great catch!
Thank you for the video i like it
Loved the video of Colton Yard. You must have been there for a while..
i understand that. i was referring to the fact that BNSF usually doesn't have AC traction units running in SoCal. not a usual site
Sensacional muito fera!!!!
BNSF attached to a UP , it's like a Coke train hooked to a Pepsi train!
A lot of SD70ACes, huh? Well that's my favorite engine!
Awesome Video....Excellent ¡ Gretting from mexico...
Did you notice how dirty the locomotives are ! Remember SP DIRT TEST ! DONOT REMOVE ! SP LIVES !
Colton Yard this is where all UP trains in the LA Valley go for servicing soon BIG BOY is stop at this yard on its way home to Steam Shop
Great video! Is that a public street bridge that it was shot from?

Nice!
Great stuff man! Was this shot at the west or east end of the yard?
Why do they have switchers lashed up with road locomotives?!?
UP's Big Boy # 4014 is in the yard on the way to Cheyenne, WY for a total refurbishment.
How can you tell if an EB is headed on the Sunset Route or towards Oregon?
Going to Oregon you'd take the hi-line at the east end of the yard.that goes uphill .Going straight on thru past the cut will take you down the Sunset Route.
I think it's an RP20BD Genset.
How about the Canadian National at 12:45? :)
How many trains a day does WC get?
Actually the BNSF main is just a couple miles to the north :)
great !! Thanx sharing

If you haven't found it yet it's a NRE (National Railway Equipment) 3GS21B. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NRE_3GS21B
