    That part at the 34 minute mark where you misplayed the flush is the kind of stuff newer players do all the time, thanks for leaving it in and helping remind us to check the hand on the left before we send it away to be scored. Tutorials are helpful in teaching folks not to make common mistakes as well as inform in general, so not editing out your mistakes is seriously helpful when teaching good play.

    Very well done tutorial, you're moving at a nice pace and we can always pause for the on screen text portions. You're doing a very nice job explaining things in a way that's actually helpful to new players. Plenty of people are making Balatro content, some of it geared toward experienced players who are going for the highest possible scores, some going towards a general audience, some for newer players. Of the content for newer players, nothing I've found so far is better than this content.
    This one video is worth anyone's time if they fit the category of a newer to average experience player, especially if they are indeed struggling with the black deck. Thanks for making this tutorial, even as a stand alone video I'd advise non-subscribers to stop in and watch it in full and bless it with likes and whatnot. I see you've made more balatro content and it's worth subscribing and investigating all that just from the quality of this one alone.
    This video specifically helped me understand the ordering of cards in a played hand, I'd already mostly understood the ordering of the jokers for their bonuses, but not completely it seems. I hadn't considered to put the cards that can give multiplicative mult at the end of the hand like you should with jokers, since more commonly I'm not even playing cards that multiply mult, and additive stuff doesn't much matter order-wise.
    That tutorial on ordering the cards in your hand so the joker that triggers face cards applied at the end, where it would score more, was a bit of finesse my own play was lacking.

      Thanks for all the kind words. I'm not strictly a Balatro content creator, and I never expected to make something quite like this when I started the game. However, I love the game, and I spend a lot of time trying to help players get better at the game. I noticed plenty of people explaining the basics, and plenty of people explaining advanced tactics, but nothing really in the middle, and learning all the little things in the middle helps so much in Balatro.
      This video actually started out as a tips and tricks video that after much internal debate this was the most logical structure I could come up with to help teach most of the tips and tricks. I could've made a list and gone through them, I mean, I did have a list I started with, but I know I struggle to retain information that way.
      One thing I noticed, a lot of players that struggled to win had a mindset of was that they needed good jokers to win. I could tell them that wasn't true, but just telling someone that rarely works. So, that's why I eventually came up with, and play tested way more than you saw in this video, playing with just common jokers. I figured if I showed playing with just common jokers, then someone would see that if I can win with common jokers they could win with these tactics using the full set of jokers.
      I'm always really glad when this video helps people out.
      I will also mention that I do have plans for future Balatro content, but I can't promise how quickly it will come out. Not only do I need to fit it around the other stuff I'm working on, but while I don't mind uploading my fun runs with some commentary I figure I should focus on making videos with a bit more to say. That being said I have been playing with the experimental patch quite a bit, and like my recently posted Vampire video there are a few spots of the patch I will likely want to highlight.

    Update: I finally beat black deck!!! Thanks in large part to your tips. Funnily enough, I did it the very next run I played after watching your video. I got four cards that were all synergizing for face cards, plus a Wrathful for Spades and a flush joker. I used your tips about prepping the deck. You know what's hilarious too? I got the violet 300k boss just like you did! Ended up with 364k chips when I played my last hand. Whew! Thank you! Definitely some luck involved -- I got a couple of great vouchers. But I kept your idea in mind: reduce the impact of luck as much as possible

      @haruzulux  6 місяців тому +1

      I'm so happy to hear this :) I'm glad you cleared Violet. I was so sad when I hit Violet in my run because I couldn't really take anything that would give me xmult, but I figured if I showed what could be done with common jokers than others should see that and have an easier time doing it with the full joker pool. I hope you continue to find success with your Balatro runs. If you have any other questions feel free to leave more comments and I will do my best to answer them when I have time, or if you want a bit more in depth help I have a channel for Balatro on my discord. discord.gg/VJn2Zeh5QT . Again, congrats on your win :)

    Great video. Whilst I was changing the order of the jokers, I wasn't considering when the jokers triggered. Also, you've demonstrated the importance of ordering the hand you play. Will be using these tips in my play. Thanks!

      I'm glad I could help. I was really happy this run ended up in a way I could display most of the order of operations of the game as there are so many little things that can make a bunch of difference on your score. I hope you find increased success with the advice, but most of all I hope you continue to have fun with Balatro.

    Just coming by to report I was able to beat Black Deck and every deck after (plus red stake) by following your tutorial!
    I think my problem was more of a mindset issue (didn't see the value on destroying cards) and understimating mult jokers and steel cards.
    Ended up pulling 3 million hands in Black Deck!
    Thanks a ton :)

    That ending was dramatic, bro i was trusting the process T-T

    • @haruzulux
      @haruzulux  5 місяців тому +1

      Yeah. The process will work, and I in fact went on stream and did it with commons only right after that, but limiting myself to commons only made Violet just a bit too high to climb lol (I had plenty of jokers on that run that would've given me plenty of oomph). If you don't limit yourself to commons you should do just fine :)

    Great Video! I struggled with the Black Deck and following your guides I actually beat it, so thanks a lot :)
    One minor complain though - the blue text on screen correcting what you've said is hard to read and its gone pretty fast, so might wanna look into improving that.
    Keep up the good work :)

    • @haruzulux
      @haruzulux  5 місяців тому +2

      I'm glad to hear that you have won since watching. Hope you continue to win lots in the future :) Also thanks for the comment on the text. It's something I'll be working on in future stuff. Ideally I won't need the text at all, but I've been working on improving not only the timing of the text, but making sure if I have any there is less, and it's easier to read.

    Finally got to the end, and spoilers on the ending incoming
    I feel that the video does its job well as a tutorial and demonstrates that RNG is very much a thing. It shows you can get the score needed for the usual targets of 100,000 with consistent results and common jokers quite effectively, and even beat that amount by a wide margin. I get the sense that you were worried about having a tutorial on beating the black deck that showcased a run that didn't beat the black deck. As other commenters have noted repeatedly, this tutorial helped them beat the black deck because this taught them how it can be done, even if you personally on this specific run got the worst final boss you could roll save perhaps the one disabling your spade suit.
    You were also handicapping due to the common joker extra requirement. But this run didn't feature usage of extraordinary jokers or extraordinary luck, and generally beats the black deck nine times out of ten, which is what we want to see. Consistency, as much as possible in a game where bad rolls happen. This teaches all those fundamentals and indeed, usually wins. That's what is most important and helpful, and it's appreciated.
    A good lesson is also that you can do everything right and still get the RNG that kills your run, that's part of having a game with RNG results that swing so wildly in your favor and against you in turn. Learning that you can do everything mostly right and still get the bad luck is part of the game, and meeting and exceeding the 100,000 they usually need is an achievement all on its own that will certainly lead to victory on additional attempts. Which is the encouragement folks need if this kind of bad luck happens to them. Future runs obviously won't be a waste of time if theyre already hitting the end goal target consistently.

      Hitting Violet sucked, but made for a more dramatic finish and then yeah... I did feel a little bad about how it ended but I felt it still showcased what I wanted and if I had hit any other boss it would've been fine.
      I do want to add that the ante 8 bosses are all their own little pool and there are only 5 of them.
      (Descriptions taken from Balatro Wiki)
      Amber Acorn - Flips and shuffles all Joker cards - 100k goal on white stakes
      Verdant Leaf - All cards debuffed until 1 Joker sold - 100k goal on white stakes
      Crimson Heart - One of your Jokers is disabled on every hand. (Only one Joker is disabled at a time.) - 100k goal on white stakes
      Cerulean Bell - The Blind forces 1 random card in your hand to be selected, at all time - 100k goal on white stakes
      Violet Vessel - Extremely large blind - 300k goal on white stakes.
      Any of the others would've been fine, but breaking 300k with just common jokers is tricky but not impossible. I just realized I never actually edited in the proper win against the black deck I did right after recording this. I should do that.

    38:53 you shouldve waited to replace hallucination until after you bought the packs

      Indeed, it's a common mistake that I still end up doing from time to time. Just the habit of working from top to bottom when one needs to check the packs first in case they have even better stuff in them.

    Okay do it now with eternal rental only because whenever I pick free joker for some reason I have to pay 3 dollars every round I have it.

    • @haruzulux
      @haruzulux  3 місяці тому +1

      Hmmm so gold stakes, with only eternal rentals. That sounds quite difficult, but interesting. I can give it a try sometime, though, I might just have to make that rental without selling any I buy just because eternal rentals are decently rare and at gold stakes it's really hard to go a really long time without any jokers. But yeah, rental makes you pay $3 each round even if you got the joker for free. Going to need a ton of econ creation for this challenge as even 5 jokers at rental will be $15 a round cost lol.

    i did similar, all diamond, then the boss blind disabled all diamonds :(

    • @haruzulux
      @haruzulux  5 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, it's always a pain when you go in hard to flushes and the boss disables your suit. Ideally when that happens you have a chance to reroll from either having the voucher that gives you a reroll, or a skip. Alternatively, hopefully you are just so far ahead of the curve that you don't need the bonuses you get from playing your cards. If your flush hand level is leveled decently, and your jokers give decent bonuses for non play effects, even playing your normal flush can still score quite high even when debuffed.
