- Balatro Part 3 - they don't list this in your standard poker hands, but if you somehow manage to get a five of a kind, you will win every time. You just might have to stack the deck to get that far.

The thing about DNA is that it gives you an extra copy each round - so you could have ended up with about 10 aces by the end of the game.
It also copys the buff if a card has a +20 chips buff it will copy the buff aswell
Perhaps he thought the extra card was one round only? I dunno, but that card seems busted from the first glance, at least to me.

The text is honestly pretty unclear, if you didn't already know what it did it's easy to assume that the copy wouldn't get added back into your deck.
Since tyler was asking, there actually is a planet card for five of a kind, its called planet x and you can only draw it after achieving your first five of a kind in the round

sometimes one can forget that an Ace counts as an 11 and a 1 depending on the situation, its not just a blackjack thing XD (though, if face cards had numbers it would likely be 11, 12, 13, for jack queen king. but since they all count as 10, ace is technically 11)

For the psychic where it says “you must play 5 cards” you don’t actually have to play 5 cards, it just gives you 0 damage for the round. If you want to play cards to use as an extra discard you still can

It's really feel bad when you forget the boss's special ability, so I really think it should be changed to just not *let* you play hands other than 5 cards big. Ie, the "Play Hand" button should gray out until you select 5 cards. It's one thing to have the boss be difficult, but making the player feel stupid is a good way to get them to rage-quit your game.

For the jokers, the joker for "3 of a kind" will proc for hands like "4 of a kind" or "full house". It does only give +10 Mult vs the "4 of a kind" joker giving +20 Mult, but since it applies in so much more hands (including the "4 of a kind" ones), it seems it’s better in most situations.
The demo has so many things to do, I can't even imagine what the full game is going to look like. Looking forward to more Balatro, it's a lot of fun!

@@salvatoredantonio2413If you have 5 slots then get a negative joker, you'll have 6 slots. Get another and you'll have 7 slots and so on. You only lose a slot if you sell one of the negative jokers.

@@salvatoredantonio2413 The spectral one is really nice if you also have the +2 handsize joker, since it over compensates for the downside.
This whole "ignoring money" strat has extra synergy with Dusk, causing each card to be played twice in your last hand of a blind. With a run like this... you can imagine how strong that'd be.
I was hoping he’d run into that joker too! The synergy would be WILD
I slept on DNA in the beginning. But especially in a buffed-Ace based strat it really adds up over the game. As the ace copy is permanently added, it is basically getting an additional ace in your deck every hand. You got it rather late but early it's build-enabling
Honestly, any 3/4/5 of a kind strat that relies on specific cards is really good. Even cards with the +4 multi/even joker, or 8s with the Tarrot card joker, etc. Or even just straight up more consistent 4/5 of a kind strats which are already powerful to begin with.
The DNA card is definitely a very strong card in the right situations.
You can do a straight with an Ace 2 3 4 5 so while that joker is weaker, it's not useless.
Also the card that added the extra Ace was DNA Joker! You get to keep the card even after the round. The same applies to Arcanas that change cards when you play them mid round.
can you do a straight with ace using face cards? I think I couldn't when I played but i might just be mistaken

@@TheCat_3 you can, ace can be used in a A 2 3 4 5 straight, or a 10 J Q K A straight (as a matter of fact, a Royal flush, which is a straight flush of the face cards + 10 and A, is the most powerful hand possible in Poker.)

The loss of DNA hurt, especially when he could've looked at the amount of cards in his deck to realize it went up.
Yeah, can't believe he didn't realize that there was a reason the card was rare. Taking the downside of playing a single card to duplicate a card seemed pretty obvious from the wording.
Although, it also seems that he hasn't realized that the deck doesn't shuffle yet. Will be interesting the first time he tries a deck thinning strategy.

I wonder if there's also one for a Royal Flush (straight flush w/ an Ace), I got it once in a run and couldn't get it again.
Unfortunately Royal Flush is not its own hand type in this game, it's just a Flush that happens to have higher value cards in it.
What I wonder is if the Flush House (Another secret hand that only gets listed after played, given for a full house all in the same suit) has its planet! I haven't seen that.@@ItsFlowwey

If you look close enough at the webcam at 17:28 you can actually see where Tyler used sleight of hand to drop an extra ace from his sleeve into the set of new cards he was drawing.
Gros Michel is actually great, because it only activates its destroy effect at the end of the blind/boss. So it’s essentially a free +10, which is really good for early game. Also, it funny banana. Praise banana.

Cards can have multiple buff types, for instance, glass and the chip, or the multiplier and a chip, but not much beyond that. In short, it depends on the type of buffs you're trying to apply.

I today got a flush house, which was a full house but I had enough modifiers to make them all count as the same suit, and the base score was 200x20

I wish there was a joker card in this game that benefited overkills. It could just be money or something based on the amount of overkill or maybe you start the next game with a certain percentage of the overkill chips. Sounds like it would only help this build tho ;)

12:05 About the Joker that gives you something if scoring hand contains an Ace and a straight. Valid Straights with Aces in Poker include Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace. By eliminating Face Cards you only have the first option, but you still can make straights with aces (and actually while playing Balatro myself i found that it's actually easier to get a straight without the 12 face cards in the Deck).
18:30 No there is still one that's better, you actually managed to fulfill one of the conditions of the other secret hand, that being that it its required to be a flush.

There is a planet card that improves five of a kind, it's Planet X. There is also a card for improving a flush house, that's Ceres. A flush house is when you have a full house that is also a flush. Both of those cards can only be found in the planet pack after you've played the hand at least once.

Hey Tyler, I’m not sure if you discovered this already on other runs after this, but you can move around the jokers. If you got a joker that multiplies the red number at the start, as you get more jokers that add the red you can move the one that multiplies to the right of them and it’ll multiply at the end instead of whatever position it’s in. (I copy and pasted this from my previous comment because this video is newer)[and this is before I’ve watched the video so if you found out mb]

I've been waiting so long for you to record this game. I wasn't saying anything because playtest was sadly closed, but I saw you joined official discord. Since then I've been waiting for second demo to come out for you to record. I couldn't been more happier than now. You really helped me get through lot of mental pain in my life.
firstly, yes there IS a 5 of a kind planet "called planet X" and DNA is one of the best cards in the game bcs of it's 5 of a kind synergy
If you get the reroll boss blind effect on blind skip it allows you to fight unique bosses which are not the default ones. I thought one which takes a dollar for every card played and it was pretty hard

One of the benefits of the 1/4 chance to break the card to me seems like a way to be able to further thin the deck
Balatro is one of the only roguelikes where it’s easy to accidentally overdo thinning to win, if you’re not counting card you can discard too many and deck out. There’s no reshuffle when you run out of cards, you just end up with a small or even empty hand
DNA is really nice to see early game- and in the full game, with a higher ante limit, it'll be more likely to find in useful scenario. I see it (somewhat ironically) similar to Slay the Spire's "Genetic Algorithm", which gets better each time you play it- making it more valuable the earlier in the run you see it.
I love random games like this because when I watch a normal puzzle game because it’s fun to watch you randomly have a genius moment, but it also spoils the puzzle when I play it. But for this I can watch it all I want and it never spoils anything except how fun this game is
you can also get the royal house combo where the full house is all the same suit. I had acheived this using the smeared joker which calculates the suits as red or black instead of CDHS
Flush house is the hand you are talking about and I believe there is a planet card that goes with that hand too.
To answer your question about whether it counts as a flush for jokers, it does. Jokers say "if your hand contains a..." so it does trip them. The planets on the other hand, do not get that buff
On the off chance that Void Stranger hasn't already come across your radar, it's work checking out next time you've got a hankering for a Sokoban-like. It's structured in a really unusual way that might seem offputting at first (lives in a puzzle game, and no undos?), but it makes it work and is crammed full of secrets

17:42 that's the "crappy" rare dna joker, it give you the copy of the card instead of shuffling it back to hand. If you play the older version that has 10 max ante and boss blind 500k, that joker would be a huge help because it helps you to play multiple times of 5 of a kind of aces. Since you only have to get 50k in this version, a guaranteed 5 of a kind is enough
I was screaming at the screen when you got rid of DNA. That’s the single best way to get more aces!!!!

I can give a really small hint. In the game collection you can see there are more planet cards than standard poker hands so there might be planets for more unusal hands, but sadly there isn't flush three, four or five of a kind.

The way the tarot card "death" is worded, it sounds like you can select 3 cards and convert two cards at the same time.
So, the joker cards that say "have X WITHIN a hand" seems to still pop off even if you technically have a higher hand, as shown by your 4 of a kind joker counting on your 5 of a kind hands. This implies that the 3 of a kind joker might also work for 4 of a kinds, 5 of a kinds, and possibly full houses due to there technically being a 3 of a kind WITHIN the full house.

In any form of card games, an Ace can count as a 1 or "14" (in terms of 10 through Ace straight), so you could have taken the Joker that gave you the extra multiplyer for the Ace and Straight.
Cause I actually had it in a run and it works also.

I haven't specifically done that, but considering zany joker (buffs if 3 of a kind is present) works on full houses, I would assume 5 of a kind ace of diamonds procs flush synergy jokers
Plus, the joker targeting flush hands and straight hands both count for Straight Flush (And Royal Flush, which has the same stats as a straight flush).

i think it would’ve counted as a flush, since three of a kind still technically triggers for four of a kind. I also think I got a royal flush at one point - don’t remember if it got a planet card

If you have room you should always but the two planet cards for 4. They sell for 2 so you break even if you don't get planets you don't like. In this case it was a free shot at finding out of the 5 of a kind planet exists. I think it does, but it will only show up in a run after you have played it. I believe the same is the case for other planets for other secret hands.
the joker that gives mult when your scoring hand contains a flush should work because it works with a straight flush and a flush house as well .

i am pretty sure that the death card doesn't need you to put up your ace because it said the rightmost card meaning that if you don't put up your ace then it will still be converted to an ace

Just a note for the future. Ride the Bus cares about *scoring* face cards, so if you play AK659 (random high card hand) only the ace scores so you don’t lose the bonus.

I tried out Belatro for a good 8 hours and it has some potential. I just couldn't get any straight strategies to work. Flushes were easier but still felt bit underwhelming. So I'd love to see you try beting the game with straights.
