Played one yesterday for the "novelty" of it. Now it's sitting in my room 🙈

Just purchased my Murphy Lab Ultra Heavy Aged LP today. I auditioned six Custom Shop LPs and it was on a totally different level both in terms of feel and sonics.

Yes Yes Totally agree the Murphy Labs are phenomenal guitars and from the moment l tried out a Ultra light Murphy Lab R9 “MAN” l was totally memorised on the tone and feel, ended up trading my 2019 Anniversary R9 plus a lot more cash, no regrets. As Tom Murphy has said on numerous occasions, it’s not just about the ageing “which he does better than most” But the feel, these guitars just feel totally broken in, the Nitro formula his using now is truly a game changer and l love it. Dare l say if you want a Murphy Lab “Go For it” however you are all forewarned they are brittle and being brittle they will age so much quicker, every time you pickup a Murphy Lab be prepared for a ding or a nick here and there. So if you can’t handle this part of a Murphy Lab then go for a regular custom shop reissue they have there place and for the rest of us who “GET IT” ahhh be prepared to go on a Journey a Musical Nirvana with a Murphy Lab ….ENJOY…

Amen. So glad you had a similar experience. The aging is great but for me it was the feel. It just felt like I had been paying that guitar for years. I know the dings and dents aren’t for everyone but I’ve already banged it up a bit and added a little aging to it and honesty it hasn’t hurt my feelings at all. Where if I dinged one of my brand new Kauers I’d have been heartbroken. So not having to worry about dinging it just lets me focus on playing and not so much on oh lord don’t hurt this ;).

Excellent video. Murphy Labs heavily aged is where it’s at. Big step above the “just custom shop” even though they are just custom shop. The checking and the necks are fantastic. Thanks for letting people know.

They are great. Amazing tone. But I can’t take this to a club or bar gig. It’s just too expensive. This has to be insured it’s so expensive.

I have 2 Murphy Labs. I didn't like them at first because the necks were sticky and they weren't setup to my specification. Now, I love them.

It’s amazing once those necks break in how fantastic they feel. This one set in the shop for a bit and got played so by the time I got it it was perfect.

@@whatsthisbuttondo2885 Yes i agree 100%! I bought my 2018 Historic R9 used. The neck felt amazing from the start. Rounded finger board edges and no stickiness whatsoever. It was "light aged" and looks incredibly authentic. Like a really well kept 1959 Les Paul Standard. I will always give a recomendation for these Re-issue Les Paul's for someone that wants as close to a old one as possible without having to mortgage their house!

Once you play a Murphy lab LP and a non ML one side by side it becomes very evident why this is a thing offered! The Murphy Lab one feels
like a great old guitar you have played for years and years and the Non ML one feels new and stiff compared. I am all for the light aging option.
heavy aged is a matter of taste.

What a gorgeous instrument. And possibly the best clean sounds I've ever heard from a Les Paul. Normally they sound muddy when clean, especially in the neck position

I admire the artistic talent it takes to relic / age a guitar right... and if I'm Kirk Hemmet and I want to play my 2M '59 Les Paul, sure I want one made just like it so I can tour with it... but when I spend $10K on a guitar (And I've done that several times)... I want my Gibson Les Paul to be cherry... with a 5A 1 piece top (maybe 2 piece if it's a '59).. and so on.. I want to age it myself over the decades. Most recently I got a '59 Reissue with a 2 pc 5A top, and the '59 Series I Alnico 4 pickups installed in it, total price $9999 ... for me, a better "investment"

Cool video. But the Murphy lab is now considered the “key” lab. They freeze the guitars after a thin finish and then expose them to heat. Then they age the hardware with acid and they run railroad spikes and throw keys at the guitars. You could have gotten a bad ass Les Paul standard, an SG 61, and a 335 for that price and could have had all 3 iconic Gibsons in your studio. The new 61 sgs are outta this world. Feels crazy good.

The old ones from 50's were white. Gibson did not use cream rings. IF you look at a 1959
burst being sold now it has white rings not cream.

@@These_go_to_eleven_1959 by gosh you are totally right. That plastic just doesn’t age ;). It always seemed so funny how it looks so much newer than everything else on the guitar. But they nailed the historical accuracy

@@whatsthisbuttondo2885 I used to think the same thing that the rings were the wrong color then i started really looking at the old originals from 57-60 and was like "Gibson used white rings?"😁

Beautiful guitar and nice relic job but I kind of wish Gibson would scuff up the plastic parts a tiny bit at least on the heavily aged models. Pristine plastic parts on a heavily reliced guitar is like buffing and waxing a hot rod and not bothering to polish the chrome. Just doesn't look the part 100%.

Gibson drags guitar behind car, charges 3× as much. People line up to pay.

Totally ironic that you said this. I’ve been thinking about gear I could sell to make a Murphy Lab R6 Goldtop happen. I love those p-90s.
