DIY: Acura TLX PMC Spare Tire Kit Install

- You'd think this would be straightforward - and it is to a point but there are a fair amount of steps to installing the spare tire kit on the TLX Type S. Follow along as we go through the directions from Acura to install this baby!

Oh man I just love that PMC Long Beach Blue . I have a type-S in Apex Blue Pearl, but every time I see a PMC, I can't help but wish it wasn't so dang expensive to repair a car.

This DIY video is AWESOME!!! Thanks for this detailed demonstration. I plan to give a try and save some money. ACURA wants 500.00 for the kit plus $185.00 to install it plus tax.

i feel sorry the next time you got to charge your battery! I just bought a spare wheel kit for my 2015 TLX and thank God it was so easy to install! $268 (+tax) and $140 for the tire and balancing....5 minutes to install. Who though putting a battery in the trunk was a good idea??

Just got my kit for 2019 Tlx super backorder! Cost me 400$ for kit and tire will be installing soon after I get the tire mounted onto the rim . Then follow your video just in case it’s the same I have a Advanced Tech. Wish y’all the very best keep on posting Acura Vids

Wow, lol! Watching this vid since finding out my wife's TLX doesn't have a spare. Have to take the wheel off. Unbelievable that a manufacturer wouldn't include basic safety equipment! Imagine being stranded in a no cell service area (I live in NV, think reno to vegas) and the stupid tire inflator kit doesn't work as it likely won't. Gonna order this tomorrow....

Where did you get that tray where you have your microfibre cloth? Thats a smart idea. Also, did you get the spare tire kit directly through Acura?
It’s an OEM drawer tray. Yes I did pick up the spare kit directly through my Acura dealer.
What is the part number, and did you order it through a dealer? I am looking to equip my PMC Edition with a spare.

Fantastic video! Did your kit come with the instructions or did you find them online? Just got my kit, and there are no instructions with it. If needed, your video pretty much covers everything needed to install.

Was the tire already mounted on the rim? Glad I found this video...just bought a CPO TLX only to learn from finance guy we had to use tire sealant as a flat fix...
Unfortunately no; the tire DOES need to be mounted on the spare wheel
Did you tire dealership who carried the tire…got the kit from acura, but they would have to order the actual rubber, do you recall the tire size, they quoted a T145/60 R20, does that sound 2:45 right

how much weight do you think you added with the kit?
Great question. Probably around 40 pounds. Maybe a little less. Def added weight but for road-trips, and 1000 mile road-trips, well worth the leads of mind.
