I think Catnap letting himself be killed by the prototype to become a part of him is more in his character. The prototype would already know how loyal Catnap is to him and would trust that he would be willing to give up his life to become a part of him. Also, I do think Catnap is aware of the fact that the prototype is always looking for more dead monsters to become parts of him and would probably be honoured to become one with his saviour.

Adding to this i have a theory of my own that the Prototype killed him out of mercy since it did sacrifice it's freedom to save Theo back when he was a child so maybe it killed him since the pain from the fire could've been lethal
Yeah, I figured early on that in that final scene, Catnap was sacrificing himself to his god. I didn't think it was a betrayal or anything. The way I had interpreted this scene was after Catnap was burned, the Prototype was reaching down to grab Catnap anyway. Catnap started to crawl back in fear because he knows what's about to happen. But then you'll notice Prototype's hand reposition to an open palm as if saying, it's time for him to make his final sacrifice if he is truly devoted. Catnap understands and accepts this, so he slowly gets up on to his knees in submission, and does the same pose he did in front of the Prototype Shrine that he was worshipping earlier, and he lets the Prototype kill him, and possibly assimilate him.
The Prototype is going to eventually be encountered. I imagine it might posses abilities from all the former bosses. Pretty cool idea if it's true.
What if the prototype is helping us because why would he kill catnap if he is so close of getting us or he just wanna have more fun of watching us to suffer
There is just one weird thing for me… it’s how Mommy Long Legs says “What have you done?! You’ll make me part of him!” Which signifies that “death” is not the issue for her, but the result.
The Prototype only appears before broken or near-dead toys so far. It almost reminds me of a scavenger gathering parts and scrap off the floor.
My thoughts align more with that the Prototype doesn’t attack alive toys; Maybe as a mercy or its own aesthetics. It targets only defeated toys to add to itself. That’s why CatNap freaked out so much. It wasn’t afraid of death, it was afraid it had failed.

I think the Prototype killed Catnap as a sort of "mercy kill". We see that toys are unable to heal wounds like us and most likely have to be manually repaired if the damage isn't too severe. Catnap was badly burned and would have stayed that way, essentially crippled for life. Considering the Prototype does, or at least did care for Theodore, it is plausible to assume that this was its way of saving him once again.
Theory makes no sense. Why he take his body and why did he take mommy's body as well and it's stated by mommy that he will "make me apart of him" it's obvious that the prototype needed more from catnap than yu think also if the prototype was the one that masterminded the hour of joy why would he show any mercy at all? Yu might say because the humans are the ones that locked him away but then why doesn't he show mercy for mommy? He just dragged her away even if he did have a friendship with catnap (speaking of how catnap was influenced as a kid and saved by and saved him when they tried to escape) he still hasn't shown any signs of mercy catnap was burned but he wasn't badly injured he moved fine after he was shocked not bad enough to be put down

First, he showed no Mercy TO THE HUMANS! He helped the toys escape and rebel against those who have harmed them, even going as far as keeping the children safe as stated by Miss Delight when she asked whether or not the kids were safe.
Mommy Long Legs was killed, not by the Prototypes hands, but by the Players. He only comes to collect her corpse, and the reason she might be afraid is the fact that Death is probably not an option when being used in the Prototypes body, or because shes seen the Prototypes full body and was traumatized by it, and since she was still a child around that time, the notion of being a part of that amalgamation after death stuck with her, even after 10 years after the Factory was abandoned.
CatNap was badly burned, do you not know how painful that is? Especially when untreated? It’s been 10 years since the factory shut down and many of the supplies that could’ve helped heal CatNap would’ve been either expired or destroyed in the chaos. Also, how the hell do you intend to heal from an excruciating burn wound if you can’t heal like a normal biological being? You’d just be left with gaping burns in your body, which would lead to excruciating pain, meaning that death would’ve been a mercy option considering it’s either: "Live with horrible Pain" or "suffer quick and sudden death that causes no pain"

@@whispher5604 The "move fine" argument had me thinking. What if the toys can't feel pain. Listening to Mommy talk again, it doesn't sound like she's in pain at all. She sounds more distressed about death/post death then anything. And theoretically why would the give the toys the ability to feel pain anyways? To me, if you are creating cheep labor, then having them feel pain would not effective as it's another thing that could prevent them from doing their task.
Bringing this back to Catnap, the counter argument would be "why does he look like he feel the pain of being lit on fire?". Thinking about it, Theo's accident resulting in him getting badly burned. If I remember correctly it was an electrical mishap. With that said, what if Catnap reaction wasn't to the pain of fire, but a lingering memory of his accident he felt pain because he remember how it felt when he was still a boy. And after the fire when out and the prototype appeared, Catnap calmed down. Now calm Catnap was able to move the memory of the pain. But he was still very badly wounded. So the prototype showed mercy and ended him.
This doesn't explain why the prototype wants the body, more to elaborate on the original point of "mercy kill".
@@coco4coconut232 the idea of the prototype being calming to Catnap is so sweet to me... but maybe they did make them feel pain so they can control them better, in the last tape with the prototype he said "you stick us, beat us, tear at flesh" so im guessing they did that to hurt them, torture them and actually Make them weak or something like that
my theory- Catnap did hesitate at first. you can see him crawling a bit back and shaking his head and not really wanting to have the same fate as others. but the prototype had manipulated it to worship it. catnap is still a small boy who is an orphan so he had nobody. after prototype saved his life he thought that it cared for him and that it was a hero. it then used catnap for his escape and to build itself and take over everything and everyone. so i think that it was part of prototypes plan to save catnap before and risk his escape as it wanted more than just revenge on the workers, he wanted to rule over everyone and torture them like they tortured it. it seemed like others feared him and did not support him as mll said that it will make her a part of it and that it would be terrible. so it manipulated catnap and made him worship it by saving him and pretending to risk itself. catnap killed anyone opposing the prototype and gave it more parts to build itself. So when catnap did everything he could do and became helpless again, the prototype killed him and made him a part of itself. Catnap knew that the prototype would kill him but he sacrificed himself as a way of thanking it because he didn't know that he was used.
I also think that the prototype sent the other toys to kill us to a) weaken us b) test our skills and c) to strike fear within us
My theory... Catnap and Prototype initially never tried to kill us. The thing about "Catnap like to toy with his food" is just something that Ollie and Poppy fed to our brain, to make us never question why Catnap never attack us earlier. However after the Principal office, Catnap realized that we've come too far, and gave us his last warning after knocking us out, saying "Leave playcare, or I'm coming for you!" on the telephone. Catnap initially didn't see us as threat. He see Poppy and Ollie as threat, and we're their instrument.
To add more evidence, At the end of Chapter Two, we almost escaped using the Train, but Poppy redirected our train route to prevent us from leaving, then Catnap attacked the train (He probably intend on attacking Poppy) and Poppy later told us that "If we try to leave, Prototype gonna kill us", which totally didn't align with Catnap's demand later. Catnap WANT us to leave the place, but instead Poppy and Ollie manipulate us to stay and help them.
As for why the Prototype killed Catnap... Theodore (Catnap's real name) was once electrocuted and almost died when he tried to help Prototype escape, and Prototype helped him by getting a doctor, but he got caught as a result, relinquishing his chance to escape. This shows that Prototype didn't see Theodore/Catnap only as a pawn. So after we "Electrocute Catnap", Prototype probably seeing deja vu and mercy kill Catnap to prevent the same suffering to befell him once more.

@@adriannalago1983 I got another theory about Poppy and Ollie. First, we never heard Ollie talking when Poppy is with us. There is a good chance that Ollie is Poppy. If Ollie really watching us from very beginning, then why we only heard about her when we and Poppy got separated? And if Ollie and Poppy is the same being, then why does she need to pretend? It's because Poppy need "Something" to make us less suspicious of her. Chapter 2 ended with Poppy redirecting the train while saying something that is very suspicious about "I cannot let you leave. You are capable.", she want to take us somewhere, but then things doesn't go as she planned as our train got attacked by Catnap. By impersonating herself as a child named "Ollie", Poppy gave us an illusion that "There is a child that need to be saved" in that factory and Poppy's reason to prevent us from leaving is justified, and urging us to stay and help when all along, such child never exist.
About why Prototype killed Theodore/Catnap, probably as you said, Catnap/Theodore has accepted his fate, and he consider becoming part of Prototype to be a honor. It's something that can only be answered when we finally see Prototype on the later chapter.
Theory:
We know that prototype is the god of playcare , also he's the most intelligent one.
Prototype was aware of us entering playcare but the fact that he still let us live rather than killing us right away , this suggests that prototype already wanted huggy wuggy, mll, and catnap to die so he can just add them up with him .
Also , got a feeling that after the prototype there's one more boss , and that's probably Poppy .
We know that catnap was actually a kid , so there's a chance that he didn't killed us right away due to him being a child , or due to orders of prototype , or he was not in mood of killing us or he just saw us as an insect

The saddest part is if you look closely on catnap’s model
You can see patched up scars. Meaning that he has done some stuff that displeased the prototype on accident, And the prototype probably brutally injured him after.
The problem with the Mummy LongLegs theory is that we literally see her left over pieces as part of the Prototype Statue CatNap seemingly prayed to, along with a fair few other characters like Boxy Boo, PJ Pugapiller and Bunzo Bunny, more than likely the “Statue” is just a storage place for the Prototype’s new abilities, but we also don’t see Huggy Wuggy there, who I personally think attacked Kissy Missy at the end, as the Prototype’s arm isn’t long enough to reach Huggy through the vents, and by the arms size, we can get a pretty good potential scale of the Prototype, which is too large to fit through the vents, assuming the its chest is a semi-robotically created skeletally shaped/inspired, where as Huggy Wuggy is flexible enough to seemingly easily fix inside.

I think Ollie is actually the prototype, because when Ollie tells or shows the player to go somewhere, CatNap always shows up. CatNap didn't want to kill the player, in the chances he had, maybe because he knew this was wrong or he just didn't want to, because he is just a little kid. Ollie (The prototype) killed CatNap because he was probably tired of his disobedience to him, his god.

It feels like Catnap was willingly giving himself to the Prototype. Instead of grabbing 1006’s hand that he appeared to have offered, he holds his paws outwards in a sort of “take me away” stance (istg there’s an actual word for it). Catnap might’ve known of the Prototype’s true plans and therefore gave himself to his “god” for the overall goal of him getting stronger and everyone getting revenge.
I think He didn't Grab the prototyp's Hand because He got mortaly injured by getting Set on fire. We did also See that the Prototyp hesitatet to kill him so maybe they comunicated somehow and Catnap told him that He won't survive.

I think catnap was badly injured from the green hand's electricution, and when the prototype came he thought that the prototype would save him again from death, however the prototype was disapointed at his failure and took his life.
by the way, I've noticed that huggy attacks us when we get close to poppy, mommy attacks us when we try to go to the train station, and catnap attacked us when we were moving the red smoke.
this might be because they're all trying to keep us away from getting close to the prototype, and like dogday said, to keep fed.
oh and also so the prototype could harvest all the parts. is it just me or do you think he also harvested some toy's voice boxes from 1 tape that interviewed it
It would be sick if the prototype was building a kind of clone of the player, taking mommy’s hands for a sort of grab pack, catnap/huggy for their human-like features, and any other toys under him to create some sort of replica. But that’s just a thought.
I think Mommy Longlegs was trying to stop us from either getting to the truth, or hoping that if she killed us, the prototype would spare her and not fuse her into him. As for Catnap, I think the prototype either told him he would become a part of something bigger and stronger, and Catnap sacrificed himself in hope to become stronger, or he pleaded to the prototype to spare him, and he thought the prototype would, but was killed instead.

I think it’s the first theory since prototype actually cares about catnap. If he didn’t he would’ve left him to die back when they tried to escape.

The prototype did not want to save Catnap, he wanted his parts.
Focus on the way the prototype beckons Catnap with his hand.
He does a quick flick inwards with his fingers. This hand gesture is used to show you want something. In the case of the prototype, he wants Catnap’s parts which is why he gestures this way.
If the prototype wanted to save Catnap he would’ve offered his hand fingers extended, rather than flick inwards. His reserved pose shows he is not interested in Catnap’s life, rather his parts. This is why Catnap hurries to his knees as he does. Being the cult-like figure he is, Catnap believes he his contributing to the prototypes cause by handing over his life.
Further evidence to support the fact that the Prototype did not want to save Catnap can be seen in the lore of Theodore (Catnap) the prototype influenced Theo as a child to sabotage the company and only do that.
The prototype would only do this to secure its release from where it was locked away. It is never said if the prototype gave anything to Theo, only that it expected his loyalty. Only a cold individual would use a child to secure his freedom and do nothing in return. Why would this cold individual save something that could be considered a liability (given the current state of Catnap) rather just instead take his parts to boost his strength? It’s illogical, therefore, he was trying to take his parts.
If there was mental dialogue for the scene it would go something like this
Proto: “offer your parts to me, you will no longer have need of them”
Catnap: “yes oh great one, I offer my life to you, may my parts bring you strength as I become apart of you”
the prototype sacrificed it's freedom to save theo though so it being for its release doesn't really make sense.
That's what I'm thinking too, why would the prototype treat Theo(Catnap) as a pawn when it is seen the prototype has an emotional connection with Theo, sacrificing his freedom to save Theo.@@abdulrahiimliadi2002
Could of also been a front aswell a emotional bond can be formed only to get something out of it or use the individual later, at one point maybe it did slightly care, but knowing it could possibly get something out of it manipulated Theodore more.
Leading everyone and him to believe it cared when in reality it was securing ITS own survival later on. Think about it. Yeah sure it didn’t have to go back but it did. I think the prototype saw the chance and took it. It could escape weak. Or stay, for a possible upgrade because the prototype would have likely known of all toys and critters.
And knowing a lot of the kids where most likely becoming those things it stayed knowing it could become stronger it knew it was incomplete so escaping early wouldn’t help it.
It’s like Sammy Lawerence and bendy only Theodore actually fuses with his god. Even though I believe the poor kid was used from the start and didn’t know it.
I agree with your interpretation on the hand movements but it wasn't a flick inward it was more of him offering his hand to catnap like saying its OK you have to do this you know what your purpose is catnap knew the prototype wanted him for parts but catnap had a mission I think when catnap failed for the last time the prototype told him that was his last chance notice how catnap had 2 other chances to kill you and on his 3rd strike the prototype killed him catnap sees him as a God that's why the bright light is shining representing the godly way catnap sees him so he sacrifices himself for the greater purpose he knows he had to fulfill

The way the prototype kills CatNap is amazing. We see the prototype come from the roof with bright light symbolizing how CatNap sees the prototype as a god, then giving himself up realizing he failed his objective of killing the player and even looks scared because he knows that his time as ended, but instead of fighting back, he gets up and spends his last moments praying to the prototype as a final sign of embrasement, letting the prototype take his life and have his body become a part of him.

This is my theory:
So in 1990 Theodore grambell AKA Catnap and the prototype used to go on playful adventures
And theres an accident where Theodore got electrocuted and the prototype bringed him to the medical
Room, and now in the end where the player electrocuted catnap, the prototype comes in and reaches out his hand to catnap
Maybe catnap thinked that the prototype is gonna save him and bringing catnap to the abandoned medical room in Home Sweet Home

i think the prototype knew catnap wasnt able to kill us from the beginning. he just wants to get stronger by adding the creatures bodies to himself, but he cant do it himself as you said. so he uses us to weaken them, and gets them when they are mostly done. why didnt prototype get mommy long legs during the whole time she was there? because he wasnt able to, and he used us to complete his job. i think our character is somebody really important at playtime co and prototype knows us. he knows that creatures like huggy wuggy or catnap are not able to stop us so he is trying to use their power to do so.(by the way i think the prototype got huggy too)
My theory: The Prototype genuinely wanted to help Catnap, and reached out his hand to help him
But Catnap was the one that thought himself a failure, and submitted himself to the Prototype so he could join his master
The Prototype decides to do what Catnap asks of him and kills him

This makes more sense. But idk, when the hand comes down catnap at first seems distressed. Fearful. Not really a responce from someone who thinks everything of the prototype, seeing the hand should have been a great thing not a moment of fear.

I also think this, in the past the prototype was close to escaping but sacrificed that opportunity to let Theodore survive, it makes no sense that Catnap was just a tool. Besides I read in another comment section that toys can’t heal their wounds because their skin is artificial, so Catnap would’ve been severely burnt and in pain for the rest of his life if he survived, it was a mercy kill.

also he did get into a big accident including the green hand which we shoot at him when he was a kid which led to him being picked for the bigger bodys plan that reaction couldve been a sign of ptsd@@osblarg
I for sure agree with the last theory. Catnap's behavior throughout the chapter seemed to be only preventative measures to keep the player out of 1006's way. He was more than capable of killing the Player at any time, yet he chose to only hinder us; ultimately demanding that we leave Playcare. The last fight was probably his decision to finally get rid of us himself.
Concerning the ending, I believe that Catnap was well on the way to death from the electrocution/immolation, and 1006 knew this as well. So, as with Mommy Long Legs, he planned on retrieving Catnap's corpse; and, in a final act of worship, Theodore offered his dying body to his god.
One thing that I want to say bc I know that a lot of people missed this but, when your fighting catnap off at the safe room the screen shows something that says “use the light to see what’s real and fake” or something like that. So what it means is use the fire gub hand and use it whenever you see catnap coming and their is a high chance of that one being fake so you don’t have to fight two at a time and it will only take a few minutes! I hope that helps😊
4:17 if she said that..then why was she NOT afraid to stand still and wait for us while we played those games? If Ollie (i think the prototype) has connections with all the camera's, then he saw that aswell right? Then why didn't he attack her there if he wanted her aswell?
People admit the red gas made us hallucinate possible entire scenes earlier in the game, but even though the ending had TONS of red gas everywhere, and we just happened to have no mask (obviously planned by the game makers)…
But yet no one thinks catnaps death was another hallucination? Why not? There was even that catnap cutout in the end scene with Poppy, which seemed like a big hint to me….

I doubt that that was a hallucination, we lost the green hand which shows yes we did shoot him, then poppy says you killed him, another thing is I don't see a reason the make his death just another hallucination, as the prototype is meant to be the big boss final enemy

The Prototype is the smartest experiment of all, the reason why he killed CatNap is because he doesn't care, he simply doesn't care, he uses others to his advantage.

That Plan was only his revenge against them all, for keeping him locked in the lab.
I personally thought that the reason the prototype Killed Catnap was more so an act sort of like Mercy but a very strewn version of it. Cat naps ability to produce the gas was their main strength but that was destroyed as when he tried to do it after being shocked he bursted into flames and couldn’t make it anymore and likely if we escaped and the prototype have not stepped it they could have died a charred husk on the ground. Not to mention the prototype killed them in a way that was instant. It still may have tricked him but if it was angry with catnap wouldn’t it have been more brutal? Not to mention it took them whole not a chunk of cat nap not just a head but their entire body, I believe the prototype decided it would be better rather than them dying to let them live on. As if it is the right thing? Likely not but since when did any of the characters here have morals?

Here’s my theory, the prototype has a heart for catnap, he doesn’t kill him out of spite. He kills him for mercy, after catnap is burned, his body is in agony, so I think this was merely a mercy kill.

I think it makes the most sense for it to be something close to your 2nd theory. After Mommy Longlegs mentioned "You'll make me part of him.", notice that he arrived when she was at his weakest to steal her. He did the same when Catnap got electrocuted by the player. Maybe he's too weak to steal the parts by himself and is seizing opportunities to steal them after you defeat/weaken each toy. What also confirms this theory more is the shrine that Catnap prayed to. It's supposed to be the Prototype----an almagation of toys. He's stealing toys we defeat to make himself stronger for who knows what. This is probably why Poppy wants us to "save" the others. From him.
The prototype can mimic voices.. Ollie is the prototype. We've never actually seen Ollie and he knows an awful lot for being a kid. How would he have survived anways? "Ollie" wants us alive, and when Catnap tries to kill us, the Prototype (who originally saved catnap) kills him. This would make sense if the Prototype wants us alive and catnap was ruining it. it shows us that 1006 doesnt mimic voices, but in turn RECORDS audios and voices, then play them back. which is why every few words is a different voice, and it doesnt stay as on voice throughout like ollies.
its even futher shown its recording and not mimiking by the prototype recording elliot sayin something along the lines of 'i learn something new about you everyday'
I initially thought he was one of the other smiling critters. Given there being green I thought he was the Rabbit, but the name was different. regardless I thought that he wasn't who he said he was or at least not a entirely benevolent party.
This is stupid. Makes no sense probably the worst theory. Catnap sees the prototype as a God hence why he sacrifices himself in the end and Ollie speaks of how "he sees him as a God and kills any one who gets in his way" why would he try and kill someone the prototype wants alive? My personal headcanon is that 1006 saw CatNap suffering, and "killed" CatNap so they could become "one", calling back to Mommy LongLegs' line *_"He'll make me PART of Him!!!"_* before getting crushed by the grinder.
Plus, in the VHS tape right before the CatNap battle, as Dr. Harley Sawyer is speaking to 1006, you can hear 1006 use multiple different voices, implying that either he can mimic voices, or 1006 is a sort of toy-soul hivemind within 1 body, with Elliot Ludwig in the "pilot's seat", for lack of a better term. So when he killed CatNap, it wasn't an act of malevolence, it was an act of pity & regret. *CatNap & his Savior have now become One.*

Okay here's my thought prototype was going to save him catnap ended up deciding he'd rather die since in his eyes he failed the prototype his God he failed his God in his eyes thus he would rather die by the hand of his God then to continue to fail his God plus he knows in death he will become a part of his God and here's another fact what if the prototype wanted to save cat nap but when catnap opted for the prototype to kill him he instead went with the mercy kill since cat nap was clearly dealing with some bad trauma PTSD from when he was still human and got electrocuted so it was a mercy kill on the prototypes part and a sacrifice on cat naps part but this is just my interpretation of it
@@terriw5493 well two things wrong with this theory...one we already electrocuted Catnap it wasn't till he set himself on fire that he started to gain PTSD so that is the only problem I see there...the other is...the prototype isn't as nice as it seems...I feel like I should refer back to the whole "the prototype is elliot Ludwig" theory matpat came up with...maybe he was? And let's not forget that we have seen over the course of this game the toys start to lose their sanity in a way, cause we saw kissy missy act the same way that Huggy wuggy did in chapter one before she was stopped...then there was the whole mention of Ludwig having that mutilated corpse in his house...what if...this going on the prototype being ludwig...that story was true...and the prototype taking and killing catnap was ludwig doing what he did in the past and then taking it to make himself stronger...that said we still have no idea what was attacking kissy at the end and that's what concerns me the most because there is a theory that it was just the smoke making hallucinations for us and then Catnap was actually the one to attack kissy

I feel like the prototype tricked Catnap. You can see Catnap getting scared of the prototypes hand and then the hand seems like it's trying to help Catnap. Catnap then realizes he's here to be with him and for them to be together, which is why he starts worshipping him. The prototype then gets aggressive and kills Catnap, whether this was because Catnap failed to kill us or he just needed the right time and place to tl kill Catnap because he couldn't before.
The proto type makes the monsters think hes friendly but truly he lets us as the player kill/ingures the monster
My theory:
When you think about it, Catnap gave us warnings on the floors and walls. Telling us to leave, not to mention we know we shouldn't trust Poppy. And the fonder of the company was nice and tried to save kids who where sick, and his workers.

I think the prototypes plan is this: if catnap did not kill him (the player),he the prototype had a plan B. Kill catnap and use him as a weapon for himself by using a pipe in catnap, giving the red smoke to the prototype and use catnaps head as a GUN.

i got a theory for ya'll. In the final cut scene where u shock catnap u can see him releasing his gas right at u just before getting shocked again, what if he managed to not fully put us to sleep but at least alter our perception just enough to make us see him dying even though he didn't. If u think about it, the light that appears from above when the prototype arrives is a little too dreamy and such. But it's true that in the absolutely last moment when going down with poppy we hear kissy getting jumped and who else was left in this scenario than catnap, only other experiments were just the little smiling critters and I think kissy wouldn't have that much of a problem with them. But they were also under catnaps authority and if he would have died "as we think" then it would have to be the prototype (which I think would be a little štupid of him considering how smart he is and that he still has many other ways to deal with the trio of the player and pop and kis)or the little critters, but like I said that wouldn't be really that possible. Please let me know if there is some mayor flaw in this theory. But hey that's just a wild off track theory a CRAZY theory. I will be back with more

My theory might sounds stupid but i think:
All the monsters weren't evil. *They just didnt wanted us to free poppy* because if you have played chapter 1 huggy wuggy actually helped us at first but as we get closer to poppy he becomes aggressive and after we free poppy every monster started popping up and tried eliminate us. Catnap didnt tried to eliminated us because he probably didnt knew poppy was free. He wanted to know our objective. After knowing our objective, knowing that poppy is no longer trapped and we are working with poppy he decides to oof us.

Weird theory: maybe for whatever reason the prototype needs US and needs us alive. But then why didn't he say Catnap not to kill us.... Well, to think of it, Catnap may be some kind of Prototypes "challenge" for us. Poppy called us perfect for defeating the prototype, but what if the prototype found us capable for his plans as well?
The prototype takes all of the toys we kill and mommy says that "NO HE'LL MAKE ME A PART OF HIM," which basically confirms that he is using toys to make a larger body for him self, Ollie might be the prototype as the prototype can copy voices , plus how would a child survive without food?

Prototype killed Catnap, because of his own rage, and hatred, even though Catnap worshipped him. In one of the tapes, we hear a staff member and Prototype talking to eachother. Due to that, you can clearly hear that hatred.
Maybe the reason of killing him was because he lost his own control?
He did it quick and he offered first. He didn’t kill Catnap out of rage, he accepted Catnap’s sacrifice as his loving God

I don't do too much theorizing but I think it's possible for the prototype to have killed catnap to prevent from catnaps body from being unnecessarily damaged. We can see catnap burst into flames after expelling the smoke which the resulting explosion could of damaged the components making that possible. Rather than let the fight continue and having us potentially exploit a weakness that the prototype doesn't have that being to fire and electricity supposedly. Hence the willingness to become part of him.
I also find it interesting the way that he is killed. A puncture in the mouth to throat area would be of no consequence to the prototype being fully capable of changing his voice.
Furthermore, I find it interesting that Dog Day had his legs removed potentially serving multiple agendas. A warning and for the prototype. Head cannon I believe that the other smiling critter that jump off something high did this to prevent the prototype from using it's most valuable asset.
I think this rash decision to stop the fight was due from see the results of the mommy fight were almost nothing remained and he could only take what remained of her elastic portions.

it was a mercy kill, Catnap was very injured, maybe even dying in time and the prototype saw this and killed him "to put him out of his misery". It is seen before ( In a arg? Idk where) that when the prototype was executing his escape plan from the help of Theo, Theo gets mortally injured by an electrocution by the green hand which stopped his heart, the prototype couldv'e escaped but he chose to sacrifice his freedom to save Theo by bring him to doctors to save him and was captured due to going back for Theo and ultimately to save Theo he became Catnap. The prototype hesitated to kill him because he had an emotional connection the to Theo, and leaving him in that state would've hurt Theo even more. Kinda like in the Book Of Mice and Men, when George kill Lennie as a mercy to him, so Lennie wouldn't be suffering the same thing again, just like how Theo's heart was stopped by the green hand, and now, he gets electrocuted by the green hand. This end really gave my Of Mice and Men vibes, BUT HEY, THAT'S JUST A THEORY A GAME THEORY!!!

This has definitely bugged me since playing. The prototype killing him because he failed would make more sense if Catnap had been BADLY burned, but he was mostly singed. Like he could still have gotten to us in that state but if his skin was charred and REALLY burned and he was "in pain" I could see him begging for help from the prototype and him going "Nah you failed, you're of no use to me WHACK!".
There is a lot of "But why?" in this new game but that ending was a for sure WTF moment.
I assume that the prototype has use for us as well, and with catnap burned we are more useful than them so he killed Catnap to leave us for his plan.
Well Catnap maybe could have survived cause he only burned outside but he did the mistake of letting out the gas which made him burn inside too, he would have been in pain forever and not able to do much, i think the prototype just ended his suffering. After all… Becoming one with his God is Catnaps best happy ending

I got a logical theory the kid inside catnap almost died altough he didn't die at first glance but the prototype saved him and revived him in a new body the same in the end catnap looked weak yet not dead but could have been dead after a few minutes but prototype saved him again and revived him again in another body that of the prototype itself.
I think its interesting how catnap ignored us for a glimpse of the prototype, indicating hed do anything for him, including leaving us alone, even though he was hunting us for sport, like it wasnt an order from the prototype, because of it was, he would have outright killed us, not toyed with us like we're nothing

The prototype doesn't want any toy to kill us because we keep leading toys into his way, to make him stronger
In my theory, I think we the protagonist are actually helping prototype finish of his creations so he can make them a part of him, mommy long legs explains how she does not want to be a part of him which shows that the creatures like catnap are actually in control of prototype and they obey him or they die.

I think you're partially correct about the Prototype planning to kill catnap. But the reason why he does that in this specific moment in the weird thing, maybe, the prototype see the damage caused to Catnap by the eletricity and flame and thought that this could damage the respiration system that he wants from Catnap and decided to kill him now and don't risk losing a precious piece of his plan (The Red Smoke Breathing). That's the only reason I can imagine for this kind of story.
As someone who doesn’t know what’s going on, my assumption is that the prototype wants the player alive as it’s not capable of killing most of the toys, but sees us as a way of weakening or killing them in order to get stronger as a better alternative to making Catnap do it.

Catnap tells us to leave or he will come for us. There is chance he actually took pity and didn’t want to kill us, so he decided to give a last chance. But after we still tried to fight the prototype he had to step in.
Poppy says the prototype will kill us if we try to leave, but I actually think this is her exaggerating to get us to stay (not out of malice, but just because she’s desperate). The prototype wants us gone because we are a threat, so whether we die or leave, the outcome for them is the same.
Catnap was a kid so he may not have known we worked there like Mommy Longlegs knew, so he may not have harboured a personal grudge against us.

Isnt catnap possessed by a child who had a friend that lived under his bed, the friend was only seen as a claw having hand. The child also gave himself a purple outline. This could mean that catnap is letting his saviour take his life as a sign of acceptance and a sacrifice to satisfy his god.

My theory:
In chapter 2, I think that the prototype would have actually offered mommy long legs to kill us and become a spare, instead she got killed by us and I think that prototype took him still to take her parts as his own body(her long legs),
Then in chapter 3 we saw that catnap also was killed but by the prototype now.
Now here's what i exactly mean, i think that as we saw prototype is just kinda like a skeleton monster, i think he wanted the playcare to be his own so he was hireing all these best monsters to get killed by us and after he could use their abilities to maybe be the king of playcare. Now , I think that in further chapters we would see other monsters and prototype taking their dead bodies and using their ability into his won body.
And in maybe final chapter we would see The PROTOTYPE coming with all the powers he got from all monsters and will kill us to be king of playcare.
Here's why this is logical because in every horror game in first parts we see individual monsters but after at end we a large monster with all abilities that other monsters had, and i guess this is exactly what prototype is 'THE FINAL BOSS/MONSTER'.

Because as I told he is taking all abilities of the monsters and at the end he wnated us to get catnap killed so that he could use his ability, but he saw that we failed in killing catnap so he killed that monster itself to get his ability.

My personal thoughts are that catnap is being misunderstood, I think the prototype lied to Catnap telling him he saved him from something, and then catnap believed him. He then went on to become this killing machine cuz the prototype told him to, I don’t think he wanted to kill his friends, but he had to cuz the prototype told him to. He told him to do it, but catnap didn’t want to, but sadly did it anyway. Then the prototype told himself he didn’t need catnap anymore, so he “killed” him. I have a theroy that catnap only lost his gas thing, cuz if you look where the prototype stabbed catnap, you can see that’s where his gas filter is. I think that in the end chapter you’re going to have to fight the prototype, and I think that right before the prototype tries to kill you, catnap is going to come and save you. Realizing the thing he worshiped lied and used him, and you were trying to save him.

Catnap reminds me of Sammy lawrence from bendy and the ink machine. Sammy worships the Ink Demon (bendy) and even tried to sacrifice the protagonist (Henry Stein) for the Ink demon to take and spare Sammy. But, he fails when he enters a room calls the Ink Demon and is presumably killed by the Ink Demon
at 3:28 , you can see cat nap ear go down and if we refer to animals language this is a sign for something and usually when the ears of an animal goes down ( at least from my knowledge ) , it means that they are sad. and so he s sad to learned that the prototype is here in a way proving that he is accepting his inneficency to the prototype
Another theory is that the prototype once almost escaped but when he got to the final wall he needed a green hand he had everything but the green hand which the prototype now has because we shot it into catnap. he now has every thing he needs to escape.

has anyone noticed that in chapter one when you're supposed to enter the room poppy's in, there's one last black tape. if you find it, you will hear a scientist talking about the prototype. '' Experiment 1006, the prototype. '' is what he says. I'm not sure how many have noticed, probably quite many. but the fact that we actually got to know a bit of the prototype in chapter one even tho we first saw it in chapter two is just so cool but also would probably mean something..
And its also not inside the room poppy is in, its just outside the entry of the staircase that leads you there
I think that the prototype is a collective concious of different minds combined into one, not only do they take body parts to make himself stronger, they add the mind of their victims into a greater whole. During the tape in chapter 3 where we hear the prototype talking, they speak with male and female voices, and they also refer to themself as "I" as well as "us." I think this adds weight to the Catnap sacrificing himself to the prototype theory, as they probably wouldn't want to waste a loyal follower, so they offer the heavily damaged Catnap "salvation" by adding their mind and body to the greater whole. Mommy longlegs being terrified of becoming "part of him" would also make more sense, instead of dying their mind is forced to live on within the prototype, if they want to or not.
my theory is that CatNap saw the hand and thought he was going to get fed, this can also be backed up by ollie, which mentioned the tiny toys were fed in exchange for obeing the prototype. this is also why CatNap held up his hand, he thought the prototype would drop food, or whatever he eats.. anyways, he got killed instead.

I think for my opinion, that this is like the set back of what happened to Theo (aka Catnap) before he became a toy, Theo got into an accident (I think being electrocuted when using the grabpack) and was verge of death, the prototype saved him by giving him to the employees to turn him into catnap, to help him survive. This scene is like a deja vu from back then, because catnap was electrocuted by another grabpack, which is why he seems to look frighten and scared when the prototype appeared, but when he remembers that the prototype saved him from this kind of situation before, he kneels down before him before The prototype taking his life, like some sort of mercy kill
