This was a live performance. No do overs.Bobby's performance was sheer perfection. No one will ever do this song like him. Artists before him and after him have done this song but no one r will ever measure up to Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Bros. HE OWNS THIS SONG.
No one in the history of singing this song since it first came out back in 1955 has sung this song better then the late great 'Bobby Hatfield' of 'The Righteous Brothers.' This performance done live ten years later in 1965 on the 'Andy Williams Show.' Is one of the greatest live performances in television history. The Andy Williams orchestra arrangement on this song made sure to have the violins become the focal instrument of this the greatest version ever of 'Unchained Melody.' On this night 'Bobby Hatfield' cemented his legacy as one of the greatest tenors in music history.
@@randiewasserman8831 Thank you for your kind comment. Composer Alex North's immortal melody is one that will never be forgotten. This genius composer wrote so many compositions for dozens of movies that he will be most remembered for a little known b-prison movie titled "Unchained" (1955). Hence the title of the song "Unchained Melody." His other great works were: A 2001 A Space Odyssey, Spartacus, Cleopatra, A Street Car Named Desire and much, much more. Check out his bio. You will be pleasantly surprised...
A song from the 50,s 60,s era, when there was so much emotion, so much feeling in the music, ballads, etc., this recording, listened hundreds of times, never get tired of it, at my age of 75, still can have tears listening to it
God given talent that he trained to the point of better than it should be , because it was. Fantabulous is the best word I've made, you can make a word for it. Theres great, then there is Bobby doing it. Nuff said.....
The truth is, I'm not sure if I really believe there's a "GOD" up there (or down there) but if there is, or was, he, she or it must have shot a bolt of talent down to earth going right through Bobby Hatfield. An absolutely magnificent and unique performance, never to be duplicated. I'm 81 and during those years have heard just about every "great" song. No one, or nothing, compares to this one by Bobby. Your reaction was superb - and thanks for not interrupting like so many other "reactors". Have you done a reaction to "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" by both brothers?
The old music was the best....I lived through those times as a teenager.. It was magical. People believed in love more than lust. I miss those tender times.
You have experienced the exceptional talent of the ONE AND ONLY BOBBY HATFIELD !! Loved your reaction as it mirror my own. He is of course a duo act with Bill Medley, and their songs are wonderful. I must admit I am partial to Bobby--he can boost my mood in these distressing times of the Covid 19 Virus. He has many other solos, all on You Tube--love songs, Doo Wop, real rockers, and great inspirational songs--all worth hearing and you will find that he has many facets to his amazing talent. Enjoy !! Cathy
Such an amazing performance. Wow. I also recommend. The black and white popular video of their "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'"… where you get to see both of them sing. Nice reaction!
I am 81 and have heard several artist before Bobby’s version and several after. No one comes close to this, Bobby owns it. This version came out as I was headed for Viet Nam. You can feel the loneliness in the words and the way we felt as we were away from our families for one long year. Bill and Bobby always did one solo on each of there albums and while on tour. They both wanted to do “Unchained”, so they flipped a coin. The music was written as the theme for the little-known prison film “Unchained” (January 1955), hence the song title. Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film soundtrack. It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by the Righteous Brothers. The movie “Unchained” is about a man in prison and longing for his wife and children. Hoping his wife will still be there when he gets out. So you can now understand the meaning of the song. The movie was not very good, or so my friends told me. But we were all teenagers so what did we now. Several artists sang it and it made the billboard top 100. But no one can come close to Bobby Hatfield’s version. Bobby’s version hit the top ten chart. And did it again when it was used in the movie “Ghost” It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by Bobby. According to the song's publishing administrator, over 1,500 recordings of "Unchained Melody" have been made by more than 670 artists, in multiple languages.
Wooooow this is Soul ministration Song I totally enjoyed it, I could hear all the lyrics this is why I always enjoy old time music. Great job reactor I enjoyed this
THIS is the original live version and the BEST version of this---- I'm a 66 year old ex ranger, bodyguard and anti-terrorist specialst and this tears me up EVERY SINGLE time I hear it... Bobby sings this alone- and his MOM was in the audience-- and this was the FIRST time she ever heard him sing publically--- he was nervous- but you'd never know it..
Bobby Hatfield was one of those rare tenors that's actually a countertenor meaning he had the natural ability to reach those high notes, glad you appreciated his singing and the music.
You are right. This is from when before music became industrialized. Sadly, we have become used to and accept music that is factory created and on assembly line. I believe we should honor music that was still music not product.
HI NELO, BOBBY HATFIELD HAD WHAT WE CALL "THE X-FACTOR". HE HAD A GOD GIVEN MUSICAL GIFT. THE DECISION WAS MADE FOR THIS SONG TO BE SUNG AS A SOLO AND BOBBY DID JUST THAT. HE HAD A GREATER VOCAL RANGE THAN BILL MEDLEY (his partner) HE SUNG THIS SONG SOFTLY, SWEETLY, SMOOTHLY, SENSUALLY ANS WITH SOUL GRIPPING PASSION THAT WAS SO PURE AND CLEAN. AND YOU MUST REMEMBER THIS SONG WAS SUNG OUT IN THE OPEN WHERE BOBBY JUST HAD A PUNY MICROPHONE WITHOUT ALL THE TECH HELP YOU GET THESE DAYS.. I HAVE HEARD MANY VERSIONS OF THIS GREAT SONG, BUT BOBBY DID IT BEST - PERIOD. HE OWNS THIS SONG. THIS SONG WAS ICONIC AND WAS IN THE WELL KNOWN FILM "GHOST" STARRING PATRICK SWAZYE AND DEMI MOORE. Bobby Hatfield suffered severe stage fright. This being live TV one shot only, and having his parents in the audience didn't make it better. And he did THIS!!! 😁
Made me think of Dean Martin, my older brother always said Dean sang like he didn't have a bone in his body, now that is smooth and he was, so was Bobby...
I just became your newest subscriber. One, you're cute😊 and I loved your reaction. I saw the Righteous Brothers in concert in 1997, and they were even better in person.
A little history the righteous Brothers albums always featured a solo for each of the guys. They both wanted to record the song and Bobby Harfield won. The rest is history
Beautiful reaction, would you do a Elvis reaction to One night with you from 68 comeback special. I promise you will love it but be careful he will steal your heart. Can't go wrong with the king of rock and roll
Might also try last date by Conway twitty in one album version he get his voice to crack so it seems he's about to cry which is pretty fitting for that sad song
Bobby’s parents were in the audience too so he was extra pleased! This was featured in the movie Ghost... ua-cam.com/video/MhAE3lQ_FHg/v-deo.html The same clip, but with singer Andy Williams asking why it was a solo! ua-cam.com/video/FZZqf3AVJbE/v-deo.html A bit more of that same show... ua-cam.com/video/KGClv9GKYmo/v-deo.html
Great reaction!! Old music had more depth. Please react to some of today's best vocalists: 1. Morissette Amon - " Never Enough, " "Rise Up, " " She Used to be Mine, " "Secret Love Song ," and " Akin Ka Na Lang. " 5 1/2 octave range and power in a small package!! 2. Katrina Velarde - " Go the Distance, " "I Surrender, " " Broken Vow, " "I Wanna Know what Love Is. " Breath control, power, and range!! 3. The TNT Boys - "Silent Night, " "Flashlight," "Listen," from Little Big Shots, " "Bang Bang, " and "Together We Fly. " THEY WILL BLOW THE ROOF OFF THE PLACE!!!! Blessings to you!!🙏
The great Bobby Hatfield! That little lip bite at the end says he knew he nailed it. RIP Bobby!!
This was the first time his mother was in the audience. He was showing off and it worked.
This was the era of real singers with class and they had respect for their audience.
None will ever be this great as Bobby Hatfield singing this song, RIP BOBBY YOU WILL BE MISSED❤❤❤❤❤
The greatest performance in history!!!

Yes. Oh My God.
