*One thing no one ever questions is music.*
Why is music so widely excepted?
The most emotional, unhappy people I know are people who constantly pump music into their head.
You ever listen to music during a workout and feel like your brain is fried afterwards?
I don't know if it has to do with modern musics frequency or something else. But it can easily change your emotional state, plant a variety of messages in your head and stimulate dopamine.
I started limiting the amount of music I listen to and feel much more grounded.

We are all sitting in the waiting room called life, waiting. Waiting for our appointment with death. So, you pick up the metaphoric magazine and pass the time. Whether it's digital media, drugs, sex, religion, career, whatever floats your boat, we all need something to occupy ourselves with while we wait. We all know how this ends. Just don't know when. So pass me that copy of Popular Mechanics, even though I've already read it twice.
So get up. Don't wait any longer. Define your time. Define your life. Experience what it is to Be. I remind myself this everyday, and here I am with the goddamn phone in my hand. Waiting.

      1. Meditation: this is cliche, but it is the primary defense against sensory overload; meditation is essentially 100% sensory deprivation.
      2. Be careful in your participation of social media. Naval does not participate in FB or IG because they're more photo related. He essentially only uses Twitter since it focuses on trading ideas. He goes into details on how to manage his Twitter account, such as turn off all mentions so you're only consuming the information of the people you're following. Be very careful of who you're following and unfollow/block without any hesitation.
      3. Leave your phone out of reach (I leave my phone in the car whenever possible) and/or unplug your modem when you want peace.
      4. Accept the fact that you're going to die. As morbid as this sounds, it helps put everything in perspective.

Awesome video again! I first gave thought of the modern struggle the way Naval Ravikant describes it while watching the documentary "Consuming Kids: The Commercialization of Childhood" where they make the exact same point - how as a parent, separated during the day from his kids, one has to fight alone against masses of scientists/telemarketers/psychologists to keep his child from sinking in their swamp!

I agree with the comments that while this was incredibly well-done, it felt cut short and thus lost the momentum that could have carried the viewer into a meaningful strategy to combat these things and give us a fighting chance. There are plenty of videos out there which offer such advice to overcome these problems, but many less that lay out the problems in such a professional and easy-to-follow format as this video.
I'd love to see a re-upload of this with the second half attached at the end. I think it's a great chance to empower people to take a stand, rather than just leave us feeling "alone".

What's missing at the end is the opposite side to this.
Go on the internet and look up videos, articles, forums, etc looking for help and you find enormous communities of creators and people trying to help one another. Maybe they have some financial incentive or maybe they're just doing it because they like it. But in the opposite way you can find really, really good advice and information on how to avoid modern day problem.
This is why I keep off social media, avoid all types of junk food, and always ask myself do I actually like this? Or do I just feel addicted to it?

While high as fuccck on weed, I tried deleting some of my social media accounts. I was appalled at how hard it is to delete your own accounts. The apps make every effort to conceal cancellation from the consumer. It is not even an option on the apps, and you have to do it on the web. (Like Instagram for example). The whole thing was just eye opening, and a real glimpse into our data driven age. Everything is driven by data. When I finally figured out and got around to the "delete account" page, it gave a number of options to choose as to why a consumer might choose to opt out. Ranging from, "I need a break", to "it makes me unhappy", to "I spend to much time"... all these options for such a consumer to choose from, which when chosen, acts as data to be consumed by the algorithmic system and analytics l, analyzing all options and history of data of it's users... all to make a better product in the end, to keep people locked in, to keep making money. It was fucking sickening. And once on the "permanently delete account" page, it was almost horrifying... like some crazy black mirror episode... as If I was deleting myself or a peice of myself. I should have took a screenshot, but the page was blank white with black text.. long space of white scrolling down to the bottom of the blank page where the big fiery red death button appeared, dominating the entire screen. They made every possible way in which to make deleting your own account an unpleasant experience. I myself couldn't even do it, as if I've grown some sort of ego attachment. I temporarily disabled it instead... I thought about and felt for our generations growing up with all this mobile social media embedded in our culture... for better or worse, it's effects are evident everywhere. And the act of self deletion was simply eye opening into the insight of the tight grasp of the hands of social media that holds our society so tightly. Every generation before us feared for the next one, whether with evidence to life changing technologies or social constructs, I simply hope my fears are more unique. Sure there is ample evidence available on the psychology of all of this, but there is nothing to do other than to merge with it an adapt or try to remain independent--which would mean to be independent of popular culture. Something that is at times, unavoidable. And so this is just a weird insight I had into all this

I literally dont have addictions to any of this stuff... I don't have a sweet tooth, I don't watch the news unless something important is happening... like ACTUALLY important, the only drug I take regularly is ONE cup of coffee a day, I'm not on facebook or twitter and I never "upvote" or "like" things... The last time I actually watched porn was when I was going through puberty, its not actually interesting to me anymore, and I only play about two video games on the computer and only when I got nothing else to do, and I can't play them for very long cuz I get antsy and feel the need often to get up and stretch and get some air and social interaction. From my understanding of addictions its mostly people with ADHD or ADD that have addictive personalities so.... if this actually does apply to most people in America, then we got a serious problem with people developing ADD....
