Awesome video again! I first gave thought of the modern struggle the way Naval Ravikant describes it while watching the documentary "Consuming Kids: The Commercialization of Childhood" where they make the exact same point - how as a parent, separated during the day from his kids, one has to fight alone against masses of scientists/telemarketers/psychologists to keep his child from sinking in their swamp!

Anyone who feels they may have a problem please reach out to others who do, online or irl and find your tribe. They're out there I promise you they are. Much love fellow humans x
I agree with the comments that while this was incredibly well-done, it felt cut short and thus lost the momentum that could have carried the viewer into a meaningful strategy to combat these things and give us a fighting chance. There are plenty of videos out there which offer such advice to overcome these problems, but many less that lay out the problems in such a professional and easy-to-follow format as this video. I'd love to see a re-upload of this with the second half attached at the end. I think it's a great chance to empower people to take a stand, rather than just leave us feeling "alone". Great content- Subscribed.
What's missing at the end is the opposite side to this. Go on the internet and look up videos, articles, forums, etc looking for help and you find enormous communities of creators and people trying to help one another. Maybe they have some financial incentive or maybe they're just doing it because they like it. But in the opposite way you can find really, really good advice and information on how to avoid modern day problem. This is why I keep off social media, avoid all types of junk food, and always ask myself do I actually like this? Or do I just feel addicted to it?
Years ago I started leaving my mobile phone at my desk while I went about my daily work routine. I felt this disconnection to be very helpful via removing a myriad of distractions. When lunch time comes around, even if i'm alone, my face isn't looking down, allowing the opportunity for conversation to spark up. This simple life hack isn't going to be for everyone but I think most people would understand what I'm saying. My time, energy and focus are my resources, I control them. I hope someone can find these words useful :):)
When he said that all of our current diseases are diseases of overabundance I lost it. He's so right. We've got access to too much content and we end up overindulging. Self-discipline has never been more important

@Sharrard No, ignorant people don't have the economic, historical, or sociological understanding necessary to realize that the corruption you speak of is an inevitable by-product of a capitalistic system, as well as most other problems.

While high as fuccck on weed, I tried deleting some of my social media accounts. I was appalled at how hard it is to delete your own accounts. The apps make every effort to conceal cancellation from the consumer. It is not even an option on the apps, and you have to do it on the web. (Like Instagram for example). The whole thing was just eye opening, and a real glimpse into our data driven age. Everything is driven by data. When I finally figured out and got around to the "delete account" page, it gave a number of options to choose as to why a consumer might choose to opt out. Ranging from, "I need a break", to "it makes me unhappy", to "I spend to much time"... all these options for such a consumer to choose from, which when chosen, acts as data to be consumed by the algorithmic system and analytics l, analyzing all options and history of data of it's users... all to make a better product in the end, to keep people locked in, to keep making money. It was fucking sickening. And once on the "permanently delete account" page, it was almost horrifying... like some crazy black mirror episode... as If I was deleting myself or a peice of myself. I should have took a screenshot, but the page was blank white with black text.. long space of white scrolling down to the bottom of the blank page where the big fiery red death button appeared, dominating the entire screen. They made every possible way in which to make deleting your own account an unpleasant experience. I myself couldn't even do it, as if I've grown some sort of ego attachment. I temporarily disabled it instead... I thought about and felt for our generations growing up with all this mobile social media embedded in our culture... for better or worse, it's effects are evident everywhere. And the act of self deletion was simply eye opening into the insight of the tight grasp of the hands of social media that holds our society so tightly. Every generation before us feared for the next one, whether with evidence to life changing technologies or social constructs, I simply hope my fears are more unique. Sure there is ample evidence available on the psychology of all of this, but there is nothing to do other than to merge with it an adapt or try to remain independent--which would mean to be independent of popular culture. Something that is at times, unavoidable. And so this is just a weird insight I had into all this
We live in divisive times, many are waking up from this madness. *The comfort of technological bosom divides people, depriving us from our humanity.* - Pay attention to the real world, be present with your nearest and dearest, become present

I don't have a sweet tooth, I don't watch the news unless something important is happening... like ACTUALLY important, the only drug I take regularly is ONE cup of coffee a day, I'm not on facebook or twitter and I never "upvote" or "like" things... The last time I actually watched porn was when I was going through puberty, its not actually interesting to me anymore, and I only play about two video games on the computer and only when I got nothing else to do, and I can't play them for very long cuz I get antsy and feel the need often to get up and stretch and get some air and social interaction. From my understanding of addictions its mostly people with ADHD or ADD that have addictive personalities so.... if this actually does apply to most people in America, then we got a serious problem with people developing ADD....
Same. I do those things when I get bored, but it doesn't consume me or anything, I can completely get by without it or cut it off when I want to. I'm not interested in people's personal lives, so most news and social media don't do anything to me.

Not worth the effort to have someone as a companion, who loves you? What’s the better alternative, to sit alone at a computer and whack off at increasingly disgusting video portrayals of sex?

Awesome video again! I first gave thought of the modern struggle the way Naval Ravikant describes it while watching the documentary "Consuming Kids: The Commercialization of Childhood" where they make the exact same point - how as a parent, separated during the day from his kids, one has to fight alone against masses of scientists/telemarketers/psychologists to keep his child from sinking in their swamp!
Excellent video! Now we know why, let's discuss how to fight it.
It was arguably the best podcast on Joe Rogan. Naval is a great example of someone who actually uses critical thinking.

It's from the Joe Rogan podcast with Naval
Social media makes me depressed so I only check it once a week and that's it
What's missing at the end is the opposite side to this.
This is spectacular, life changing video. Thank you so much for uploading this. Spectacular!!!

Still getting drunk and high watching all this addicting content in October 2020!!!!! I can't stop man......

“I don’t fault capitalism; I love capitalism”: Proceeds to list many examples of why the profit incentive leads to damage to the consumer and society.
People don't have to consume this stuff if they don't want to, it's not capitalisms fault
It's not just capitalism it is monetary-ism as such. Make money or starve to death on the street in spite of the fact that we can automate labor and produce abundance with advanced technology for everyone on earth = not sane. Do unpleasant stupid unnecessary things for 8 hours a day to be allowed to be alive or starve: the modern predicament for adults.
@Sharrard No, ignorant people don't have the economic, historical, or sociological understanding necessary to realize that the corruption you speak of is an inevitable by-product of a capitalistic system, as well as most other problems.
Ikr
Capitalism has been prevalent for 1000s of years, these issues are of the last 30 year and more serious the last 10 years.
this right here is a video everyone needs to watch.
I’ve been saying this for YEARS. I feel like I’m one of the only kids in my generation who understands this.
Naval Ravikant is such an intelligent, well spoken guy. Could listen to him all day.

Very insightful commentary on modern life.
Meditate everyone! Especially when you start to feel overwhelmed or depressed, it allows you to realize that you are more powerful then you think and it cuts the need for addiction showing you nothing in life is necessary besides a happy state of mind and water/oxygen/ food

This information and colorful graphics have me addicted to the screen.....
- stop watching tv, dont have an account on social media.. that's the first step..
u r postung this frum an account on sociulmedia sir
*The comfort of technological bosom divides people, depriving us from our humanity.*

It's a question of whether or not you're truly are satisfied with what you're exposed to... if you have resigned yourself to A cycle in life the soul will never grow. Love in life, the same as for the love for life we individuals may only grasp it through the knowledge of our belonging and purpose in life. Our drive to ask questions, to grow and to ascertain is slide show of information that we choose to expose ourselves to.

That was my biggest problem growing up in the 90's. There was no one who helped mediate this for me. It traumatized me. Meditation practice would have been a good remedy to put at the end, and other ways to gain introspection and see clearly.
Working on oneself and meditation should be two main ideas in school. Mental health could be in a better state world wide if we worked on these two areas in school. But school is just meant to waste time and make us minimal ability slaves.
Very informative one after a long time...
The answer? Responsibility. Diligence. Conscious awareness. If you aren’t always actively cultivating these characteristics in yourself then you will be exploited and manipulated and poisoned. Two quotes for you:
“If you don’t have a plan, you become part of somebody else’s plan”
“If you don’t make the unconscious conscious, it will govern your life and you will call it fate”

I literally dont have addictions to any of this stuff...
I'm not interested in people's personal lives, so most news and social media don't do anything to me.
learning how to resist these things and there's no one there to help you. glad that ended on a happy note.
