Fugue begins at 4:51 . Yes Krebs is not currently in great favor,.. his music deserves a lot more attention. He is certainly one of the greatest of the Baroque composers,... but that group includes so many greats....

Ever since I began to know better Krebs and his great organ works, his wonderful chorals, I consider him one of the greatest organists and composers - he deserves the place on side to Bach, Buxtehude, Bruhns....

I agree completely. I have come to the conclusion that the classical music listening public is fairly fickle and close minded, and that includes the academic world. Over the years there have been a select few composers that get held up as the "greatest" composers and they are held above everyone else. This is completely unfair.

I accidentally hit the send button and didn't finish my thoughts. In particular, organ composers are pretty much entirely neglected and ranked as "minor" composers by the general classical listening public and academia. I find this incredibly prejudiced and close minded. The only organ composers who get any recognition are the ones that also wrote works in other idioms that are in the classical mainstream such as Bach, Franck, Messiaen etc. If they happen to write works in more mainstream genres then they are off the radar scope. Hence great composers such as Vierne, Widor, Dupre, Tournemire, Krebs and countless others are not even recognized.

Correction, I meant that if these great composers of organ music don't write works that have become standard repertoire in more mainstream classical genres, then they are off the radar scope.

Wow! This is the first I've heard a Krebs work..... this is JUST as good as Bach's organ Preludes and Fugues. Completely underrated! It is a shame that the classical music listening public ignores or marginalizes the importance of great organ composers who either didn't write in other "popular" genres or whose works in other genres didn't attain popularity. So close minded and fickle. I see it time and again. There are so many great composers who wrote for the organ who don't get recognized for this reason.

Andrew Larson. I will spread the word about Krebs and play this work at my next recital. He was highly regarded by Bach-his teacher. Bach developed a pun on Kreb's name: Der best krebs I'm bach- the best crayfish in the brook.

As mentioned, Krebs was one of Bach's favorite students. Unfortunately, Kreb's music got swamped by the increasing popularity of the rococo or style gallant era, which is why his music is not as well known as most other baroque composers.
