Been taking it for almost 20 years. I have fibromyalgia, nerve damage, sciatica and spinal damage. I’m on 300mg x 3. Have had none of these symptoms he’s described, Thank goodness!
Wow. You're at a starting dose. There must not be much pain. I'm less than a year in and maxed out at 3200mg. But then again, I have severe nerve pain. And yes, it has nasty side effects..
@@We_Dont_Miss I was at around that dose. Hardly touched my CRPS pain, made my seizures way worse. I also developed nystagmus off and on, and a lazy eye. I was essentially chemically lobotomized by it. I still feel different than I did before I started taking it. Honestly I think it should be taken off the market.
I’m the same it’s been 10 years now I can tell when I that second dose cause I try and do twice and three a must which has been lately. My neuropathy is bad
As soon as I hit 300×3 I was covered in hives even in my mouth, I had to go to the ER and they gave me steroids for the hives. I threw the rest of them in the toilet. Nope, I can't afford a $900 EpiPen if it closed up my throat.
Thank you. I thought it was just me. Now i can help my husband understand that there is legitimacy to what I've been saying for years. Sadly, lack of understanding made a lot of these effects more impactful in different ways.
It did not take my pain away. Also caused hairloss. My back pain was worse so was my neck pain. I reported to medical Doctor and ended the use. Thanks for sharing.
I'm glad it worked for you. It's helped a couple people where i work with Neo rap thy pain. Thats what i was taking it for good pain management but started messing with my head. Made me too jumpy.
So glad I STOPPED taking that sh*t.... Yes I got a lil bit of blurred vision, & it also made me have memory loss....I am really trying to get my Mom off it so I will definitely be sending her this video....thank you!!!!
It's worked wonders for me. Every medication has potential side effects. I have not had a ny and have been on it for nearly 10 years. I have never needed adjustments in my dosing (300 mg 3x/day). While it benefits me, I acknowledge that it hasn't for many people. It's unfortunate, but many in the comments have said it should be pulled off the market due to serious side effects, but keep in mind that every medication has plusses and minuses. It works for most people. However, if you have issues with it, work with your doctor to wean you off of it and try something else. Just don't think that your experience is everyone's experience. I would not want to go back to the life i had prior to Gabapentin.
I had multiple falls on my bike, bruised ribs, and fell down an escalator at a train station. I realized it was going to kill me from an "accident" and I stopped taking it. I am not sure that it ever helped my sciatica from a ruptured disc. The doctor was surprised that I had these side effects. When I stopped taking gabapentin I was fine again. I was also prescribed the related pregabalin, same problems.
Yeah, Falls/Accidents are more likely when on these meds i guess. So people have to be informed about this so that they can take precautions when for example attempt to climb stairs and so on. Guess most doctors doesn't Care enough for their patients to tell them these little "details".
I have been clean and sober for about twenty years. I was prescribed this for nerve pain. Damn! I got a quick buzz from my first dose. I almost started abusing it. I flushed it and told my NP not to prescribe it to me anymore. That’s my story. For me gabapentin is addictive.
Pretty basic doctor's knowledge that they're not supposed to give someone with an addictive personality or addiction issues shouldn't prescribe addictive drugs. This why I gave up on the AMA medical pharmaceutical system. It's a waste of money.
@@cookielapaz8927 There are multiple off-label uses in psychiatry, including treatment of alcohol use disorder. Speaking as someone who actually does prescribe psychiatric medication, if you're this clueless, you should leave it to the professionals.
I have been taking Gabapentin for severe anxiety for about three years now and it doesn’t give me a lot of side effects. I do have a tremor in my arms, but that isn’t too bad - I would rather have that than the extreme anxiety I was feeling. I was gagging before I went to work because of anxiety, I couldn’t even get the medications down my throat without almost vomiting. I was in fight or flight mode throughout the day, and every hour with students was a frightening experience for me. It has really changed things for me, but lately I have been eating the pot gummies and I have to say, those work better. Those are the best things I have ever had for anxiety!
@@phillycatladyI used to work as a registered nurse in behavioral health, and it is prescribed a lot as an anxiolytic and mood stabilizer in people with mood and personality disorders.
I'm 71 years old and have been taking Gabapentin for about 20 years and it was working well. My physician increased my dose while decreasing my narcotic pain med. Well I noticed whole body tremors. So being sent to a neurologist who diagnosed me with Parkinson's. Taking medications for several months with increases, severe personality changes and increase in my body tremors. Now I think this is what is causing my tremors. I will be seeing my doctor next week so we can work this out.
Also watch because they like to blame narcotics abuse on patients not on over-prescribing so don't let them try to trick you into remaining on a medication causing you issues just because they don't want to continue to prescribe narcotics.
@@quake2u I'm type ONE diabetic. It's caused by genetics and is an autoimmune disease. It has NOTHING to do with weight or diet. You're thinking of type 2 diabetes
@@quake2u wow what an assumption on your part. And with only a mere sentence from MarkAlexander! There are those who do everything right and still battle health issues; who are any of us to judge what relieves them & eases their individual journey??
MarkAlexander - so glad for you, that you find relief in any way. I've known many with various forms of neuropathy who are grateful for Gabapentin's benefits, esp when nothing else improves their quality of life like it does.
I was on it for years. I took 3 daily for anxiety, so I could leave my apartment. It worked wonders. It’s been the only medication to help. But they made it a controlled substance and now I can no longer take it. 😞 Things haven’t been the same since. Some people have to ruin it for the others who used it correctly.
@nenadcubric2663 both work but pregabalin is extremly potent, inducing more drunkeness feeling, or drowsiness more like a dysphoria at higher doses more depressed mood and anxiety, it's bad tbh at first it makes everything smooth and then take it all away so nasty I do not recommend
It was given to me recently because I broke a thoracic vertebra. When I first went to ER due to extreme pain, the doctor said I needed pain management. I have been shoved through 5 doctors now and it has been 5 months. For the first 2 months, I was screaming in pain, and no one would address the pain. I finally got angry and decided I was going to figure out the homeopathy that would work. It took me 5 days, but finally, the severe pain was gone, but it was still aching and hard to move around. They also recommended Physical Therapy, but I still have not been able to get that because of the Medical System. They started me on Gabapentin, and it sort of works, but I wake up in the morning unable to see. It is very frightening, and it is also wobbly walking. I am 70 and was worried about my memory being affected by this drug. I usually avoid these new drugs. I need to get off this stuff.
I think you have to take everything with a grain of salt - I can't tolerate any antidepressants or hardly any medication - and gabapentin is one of the few drugs I actually take without noticing any side effects, I only take 1 to 2 hundred a day, but it helps me not feel overwhelmed emotionally with crying spells, etc and it seems to take the edge off physical pain (I'm 62, and have ongoing pain issues) , so I am just grateful I can take it, and that it makes s difference!!
It was the only thing that helped me with pain from shingles so that I cold actually sleep. Also when I have a bad sciatic attack. Oddly, it’s also recommended for my dogs to calm them before a vet visit.
Gabapentin has helped to save my life. I take 700 mg 4 times a day along with having a spinal cord implant. My doctor wanted to try something different and after a month I was begging her to put me back on Gabapentin.
@@cookielapaz8927 not necessarily when you’re in that much pain in your spine and it’s helping and then it’s taken away from you you beg for it to pain is one thing that people have a hard time living with! I know I have a tumor in my spine and my back pain is horrendous and actually the gabapentin has been helping me so I don’t know but don’t judge
I don't find it addictive at all and I've been taking it close to ten years. Also I don't up my meds, cause I don't have to. If ANY drug is giving you side effects, talk to your dr. About changing it.
Very helpful medication for short time of 2 months in treating my nerve pain in back from epidural infection of L-spine. Grateful for this med. but using it long term as a lot of you have for years would be concerning
Very first time I took it I had severe weakness in my legs. They gave out and I could not stand! Doctor had me take it one more time to confirm. The exact same thing happened. I, too, was told to list it as an allergy, with extreme muscle weakness the result. Everyone reacts differently. Happy it is so helpful for so many, just not me.
It has worked very well for me. I have neuropathy very bad and Gabapentin works very well for. Sometimes my body hurts so bad, but I take the Gabapentin and pray before I take them and the pain goes away and I thank God for them.❤🙏 🌹
I was on it years ago. Took it for 30 days and did not renew it. Then I was on Lyrica. I liked it better than Gabapentin, but I’d rather not have to take that one either.
@MarlenaWieseman no, gabapentin is neurontin and pregabalin is lyrica both are calcium channel blockers but pregabalin is around 10 times more potent than gabapentin
Most informative!!! Now I know why my vision has gotten to be continually blurred. I am also more fatigued than ever. I could literally sleep the day away ... And I'm like this Most of my days 🙄 Not very productive. I've been more depressed, blaming it on this or that, and my husband has accused me of more anger and snapping hurtfully. I will now try to discontinue my use, tho I'm only taking 100 mg nightly. My sleep has been AWESOME, tho I have chronic pain, so this will be a difficult decision. However, my younger sister was Rx Gabapentin, but I don't know the doage, but I know she took of a minimum of 3x daily. She also Began drinking a lot. Her memory and thinking became affected, and was eventually entered into a "Memory Care" unit of an Assisted Living facility. Her neurological issues declined over time, and then rapidly. She just passed away 2 wk ago. I am now considering this to be an Extremely Dangerous prescribed medication. Please take all info into consideration. God Bless you with a long life. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
When I detoxed off methadone, the Dr. prescribed gabapentin and a few more meds to help me get with the withdrawals. Methadone withdrawal is one of thè worst I have ever been through. I was told by a few Drs that only withdrawal worse is alcohol.
I was prescribed this horrible medication I never took it. I had a bad feeling about it now I see why thank God I didn’t take it am 85 years old osteopenia my life would’ve been total disaster. Thank you so very much for this information. I’m sharing it with others. Blessings to all.
I've been on Gabapentin for a couple months now to treat neuropathy in my feet. Gabapentin 300 mg 1 at breakfast 2 at lunch 2 at bedtime Thank God I don't have any of the symptoms you described.
Ive known patients that absolutely cannot take it due to side effects, but others take it w/o side effects. Ive been on doses as high as 2400mg per day, but that was only post spinal surgeries & not a dose i could stay on. Now, I only take 300mg at bedtime. It truly helps me with severe spinal nerve damage, but i do realize that it (as with many drugs) could be dangerous at continued high doses. Its a good med for those that can take it in a safe manner
My doctor kept increasing my dose. It made me feel like I was "frying" on LSD. I live alone and was in grave danger when this happened. I could not understand anything. It was like instantly having Alzheimer's. It terrified me! I thought I would never get my thinking back. This drug never did one good thing for me! I am FURIOUS I had a doctor push me to take Gabapentin. Thank you very much for this video!
ALL meds have potential side effects... many much more severe than these... and these are very rare. They try to give patients the safest med available for their issue & they make sure the benefits outweigh the risks when choosing a new medication. Getting FURIOUS at your Dr. for doing his job is silly so long as he chooses an accepted/ appropriate treatment for the problem... w relatively low risks & a history of positive results. It's one of the safest meds and if you scroll thru these comments you will see that the majority of people have great results w little to no negative effects. It's not his fault you happen to be among the few who have trouble tolerating this med. The effect may have been scary... but it was temporary and not due to any negligence on his part. This was likely one of the safest options available... making it a reasonable choice at the time. The neg effects & who gets them are out of his control.

I took this for pain. I was supposed to take it everyday, but it made me cry everyday and have dark dark thoughts. I'm not a depressed person. It's so insidious, i couldn't connect it to the medication at first. Got back my mind when i got off of it.
I also became suicidal on gabapentin. I came so close to jumping off a tall bridge one night. I stood there, looking at the swirling dark waters, 10:54 contemplating 😢. It was the middle of the night, a very rural place. It then dawned on me this med was making me want to die via drowning. It was terribly intrusive and thankfully I stopped taking it and my doctor gave me something that did not alter my mental status. To the rare unlucky patients with this symptom, it is like a doctor playing Russian roulette with your life. Thank God it stopped when the med was discontinued. I am still here 20 years later. That was a nightmare!
@@texannadeb5005Also knew a fellow case worker that was put on it for nerve pain. Thought it was working fine until 2 yrs later it affected the nerves in his legs so bad and is permanantly in a wheelchair. Tried to get off but found out the dr lied when he was told it wasnt addictive. Now 2 yrs later after spending a yr and a half (I think) detoxing and going thru hell, he settled for percoset? percacet? He can work again after 2 yrs of hell. The pain is lifelong severe so no worries about dependency. And though he started having nerve jerks in his arms, its helping alot with those too. That stuff is Evil. Seen too many clients come in who were put on it and are now living in total disability. And the stories some tell me about neurontin (many werent given a choice) and others are heartbreaking.)
I only take one 100 mg when my lower back pain is preventing me from walking, sitting up or moving. It works for me. I get rare debilitating lower back pain once or twice every 6 months. I only take it when needed not every day as a prevention but when needed.
I was prescribed gabapentin when misdiagnosed after a failed back surgery. I took one pill and within 2 hours, all of my peripheral joints started swelling and I was in a lot of pain. The prescribing doctor told me to never take it again. It's bigger sister, pregabalin or Lyrica would have an even stronger reaction yet uneducated doctors have tried to prescribe it for me. Now I just tell them I'm allergic to it as well. Turns out I have autoimmune arthritis and chronic inflammation compresses a nerve occasionally creating nerve pain. Gabapentin was never going to help me but anti-inflammatory meds and immunosuppressants do help. And it only took 30 years to figure this out. 🤔
Thanks, very useful information, I had couple of these side affects myself and another side affects I had it was swelling my hands and my feet, also I started to have a bavk pain years ago when I started Gabapante, they should phase it out with so many side effects, I had memory problems , cognitive issues, suicidal affects, I totally stopped them and everything is gone. Thanks for sharing this.
My aunt stopped taking it after realizing gabapentin was what was causing her legs and feet to swell up. Unfortunately, my mom is still on it despite warnings from me (after much research on it) and my aunt. It seems to me she may have many side effects from it, but she has tried to stop taking it before and the pain and increase of restless leg syndrome activity is just too much for her to bear. She has ocassional leg and feet swelling, cognitive and memory issues, trouble walking and with balance. Possibly even the 'target' shaped lesions shown in this video appearing on her legs. It just does not make sense to me that doctors don't have structured cessation procedures for certain medications, or that pharmaceutical manufacturers don't have smaller dose packets available for those who choose to stop taking certain drugs. Well, I know why things like this don't exist. It's just sad, and so wrong.
I was on 3600mg/day for a couple years, now down to 300mg. My legs have been so damn swollen on multiple occasions that I could barely walk and thought I was going to die. I even had tests done on my heart, an ultrasound on my legs to look for a bloodclot... NOT ONCE have any of my docs ever mentioned this as a side-effect (or any adverse effects for that matter...) I recently had 4 hours of memory testing because I've been telling my docs for years that I feel like I have dementia since getting on gabapentin. They told me it's because of "my depression" and dismissed any possibility of the massive amounts of drugs they were giving me that are proven to cause memory damage...
I've been taking gabapentin for about 12-13 yrs for extremely advanced osteoarthritis, fortunately I have never had side effects from it. I only take 1 a day at bed instead of 3 times a day. It definitely helps me.
I was given this Rx for complex regional pain syndrome. I was grateful it stopped neurological pain signals. It was prescribed when epidurals no longer had any effect.
I knew someone who went on it and her whole behaviour changed, she screamed at me (her best friend) in a way I had never seen before that scared me. Shortly after that she started hitting her partner, I would come by few times a week and he started to have cuts and bruises on his face. She admitted she hit him and that she had been changing since the new medicine and I ultimately had to drop her as a friend because it was starting to scare me. I knew one other person who also was more prone to fits of rages after being put on this "medicine". It also really does a number on your stomach so I would not recommend if it were up to me
After few months of using Gabapentin in some people causes essential long term memory Wipeout, that is all your atm pins, login passwords. Scary experience might last for few days then comes back. Worse scary is one can't access atm, log into accounts thinking about backup of the pin numbers & passwords !! This happened to my doctor himself & once to myself. Strange F☆up side effect & GABA from vitamin stores maybe don't do that.
I was given it for pain relief and to help me sleep more than two hours at a time from Neuro Lyme and MS. Initial dose was too much for me I screened around and jammed my finger breaking it catching myself from falling probably aided by damaged nerves from MS but half that does taken at bedtime wears off by morning and I have not had any other side effects in this video. However they gave it to my Aunt when she was recovering from major stroke and she was a zombie, no memories, not able to respond to others, until they stopped it. She recovered quickly.
Yes I was given gabapentin and I recently wend myself off of the medication I was taking it 100mg three times a day. It was given to me for restless leg syndrome. And I took it over ten years. At first it was helping with my restless leg syndrome but over time I started to have problems with my balance, blurred vision, dizziness, and I had constipation and pain in my left side of my abdomen. I had fatigue and pain in my feet I couldn't put my feet on the floor with our having pain. I have lost of memory and back pain . Muscle pain and aches, sore throat, runny nose etc. I have been off of gabapentin for two months now and my body has totally improved. I feel so much better and I 'm moving better .and my memory has improved. I already take a seizure medicine and I didn't know that it was used for seizures and I was having more seizures because of this medication I had swelling in my right foot 🦶🏾. I even had tingling in my feet
I been taking Gabapentin for 7 years now and the only issue i can se that i have is insane memory loss, i forget things non stop unless i write them down.
What's crazy is I am disabled and I have had many different problems. I have had many doctors try to prescribed me this medication. Like they want everyone on it. I recently stopped taking it due to a clash with a different medication from gyno stuff the neurologist! I have had many of the side effects. And I have noticed I feel better. Thank you for this video. I am sure there are tons of people are on it! You have a new sub and likes for every! Thank you! 😊
I took a low dose for hot flashes for years, it worked well so I could sleep better. 15 years later I was prescribed a higher dose for nerve pain from a herniated disc at C7, but it made me forget my vocabulary and I had trouble talking and remembering. It only helped the pain slightly. My Dr weaned me off and my vocabulary returned! I just endure the nerve pain, it is slowly getting better. I also was prescribed an antidepressant which helps me sleep a little better.
It works great for me, I have a system on my L4 vertebra and it give me pain in my legs. I may get daisy if I get up fast but I love that it took them pain from my nerves!
I swear I had a near death experience. I left my bed floating up and up until I finally woke my self up and fell back to my bed. Not sure what happened I will never try it again ..
Gabapentin saved my life! I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Even with the medication, I still struggle with a lot of pain and fatigue. It took a long time to find a medication that worked. I cannot function without this medication. I have some weight gain, but other medications I take do the same. Without Gabapentin, I cannot get out of bed. I cannot sleep. Nothing else has worked. Taking Gabapentin has returned quality of life, where I can do things I hadn't been able to for years. I was in a wheelchair or had to walk with a cane. With Gabapentin, along with exercise and diet, I don't need either as long as I don't overdo my activity level. I wouldn't say that I'm back to "normal," but at least now I can say that I feel like I have a life! My head is no longer clouded due to the pain. I can function and be myself again. I have hope and optimism for the future instead of the impulse to take my own life, because to live in pain like that is no life at all. So, for all of the damage it may do, if someone has minor side-effects, yet they can return to a quality of life, I would say that it's worth it! I can have more independence. So, before a big blanket of thinking "this should be illegal," what about the fact that it has saved lives like mine when everything else has failed?
Its taken and ruined alot of lives too. Drs wont tell patients also that its addictive. Ex dr was getting kickbacks for prescribing it. He lost his license and dozens of his patients went thru withdrawels for months!
Amen and Glory to God! It has done wonders for my depression and nasty modes because of pain. Now, I feel so much better today than yesterday and I thank for this. Amen ❤❤🌹
I suffered the psychological side effects. It was prescribed to me for off label uses and I hit a plateau while on it. I REFUSE, to EVER take that or anything else in the general family of it. I remember saying often that I wanted a cat. For some odd reason I was fixated on owning one. I had suicidal thoughts, low energy or high energy, there was no in between. I gained a lot of weight. I went from 136 to damn near 200lbs. I now have nystagmus as well. I hated the way I felt. I'm here today because of a promise I made when I was just 7 and got a reminder of while I was on gabapentin. I was on it from about 2007 to 2011. My daughter was born 3 years after I took myself off of this medicine.
I was on these medications for years for migraines and my eye doctor made me stop taking them because it was causing me vision problems and said that it could cause glaucoma 🤦🏽♀️
I had numerous side effects when I took Gabapentin 4 daily doses daily 200 mgs x4 with 2 extra strength Tylenol for neuropathy and fibromyalgia. I still have the same doses but only take when needed until the pain goes away, usually a few hours, no side effects or addiction, works great for me now.
I quit using this medicine after 1 day. I woke up in severe pain because I almost bit my tongue off while sleeping. It was a very quick, uncontrollable, strong bite. Scary
It’s horrible and didn’t do anything for what I was taking it for, fibromyalgia, and it changed my behavior made me borderline psychotic and just made me feel really weird, like my nerves were all buzzing at the same time.
I asked my Doctor about my tremor and he told me that he doesn't have another drug that can treat my diabetic neuropathy. I get dry skin and anxiety also thin skin.
Thank u very much for your video about the side effects of gabapenten. I esp.liked the way u explained each one,it was very helpful and broke down in layman's terms which was a big help.thanks again!
Withdrawal was a nightmare. 1 month off -extreme burning hot sweats, muscle spasms, heart palpitations. 2 month off - anxiety everyday all day for whole month, feelings of impending doom
Yes getting off gabapentin was THE WORST I have ever felt. After a year, the doctor decided to switch my medication for neuropathy pain because gabapentin wasn't working,, even when they kept increasing the dose. I weened myself off for like a week, as the doctor told me to do. After like the 4th day of weening myself, I had the most horrible withdrawal symptoms for 2 weeks. I couldn't eat, I was having cold sweats constantly, heart palpitations, stomachache/throwing up, panic attacks, etc...I literally thought I was dying, I felt so bad. Never again!
Years back I was prescribed Gabapentin for several months. Wierd things I noticed: twitching in my face, especially when trying to speak. Can't remember the other things but It was not helpful at all.
I had terrible side effects that came in very slowly over many years both from gabapentin and lyrica. It about a year to get off the medication and about two more years for my nervous system to recover.
What a dangerous drug I thought it was only for cats my cat was given this by the vet now I know why the cat lost the ability to walk. was put down after she lost the ability to walk.
Vets are apparently now going hog wild , especially with dogs... hadn't heard as much with felines...Sorry they damaged your cat.I got off it cold turkey & it was 4 days of HELL. Got through it. Never again !
Cats are definitely more sensitive to human meds than dogs. My dog has been on Gaba after tearing his ACL and just recently with a severe UTI that had him peeing blood. The tramadol that I attempted made him out of his mind pacing, panting, and struggling walking up and down the stairs. I won't give him the tramadol ever again. The Gaba that the vet gave this time is the only thing that helped him be able to lay down and physically rest. He's much better after one week of antibiotics and those pills he had. ❤❤❤
I had a brain tumor removed and took this medicine for many years.. I never had any side effects.. I also took a seizure medicine with it.. still no side effects 😊
It made my blood pressure and heart rates go up, I felt hyper and was out of the normal “Gabby”. I could not shut up. Just talk talk talk. I was aware I was babbling but could not make it stop.
I took gabapentin for an alternative painkiller with chronic back injury. It put me in the hospital from side effects of joint swelling couldn't walk for 3 days
Yeah, I had the misfortune to be prescribed Gabapentin. What they don't tell you about the nystagmus side effect, is that it is both sides, and the movement is so rapid that it is the equivalent to being blind, but as I'f that wasn't enough, it hits without any warning signs, and induces immediate disorientation, nausea and vomiting, and loss of balance, so injuries from falls are common side effects of the side effects. Or if you are unfortunate enough to not be informed of the possibility of this occurrence, and happen to be driving a car, well, you may be lucky to even survive. This is not a drug, it is a toxin.
I am on a 300mg dose 3 times a day. Last November I developed double vision in both eyes. I haven’t been able to drive safely since. I weaned myself off. The pain from 5X C-spine surgeries got the best of me. I went back on. My doctor says the dose is way too low to cause double vision. MRI with contrast and 3 eye surgeon’s consults later with multiple tests on other things. I have to stop taking it. I have been on to many pain medication to list.
@@bethmartin3730 Not giving medical advice. But let me tell you about my experience with Contrast MRIs. I have had 3. The first was about 20 years ago, no issues, the second, i had after suffering a TIA, which slightly reduced my kidney function. the third however, caused a reaction that injured my kidneys severely. I now require dialysis 3 days a week, 4 hours at a time. Just something to consider. there are risks.
@@Ma-oh6xo Funny. That's not what my leaflet said, it said use caution and waiting to see how it effects you. Also note, that is not always an option for people who live alone, and have to get to appointments like Dialysis 3 times a week. Even more important, you can stop taking gabapentin and have this happen to you weeks later. My point was, not to let them prescribe this to you in the first place.
I'm on this for fibro. I went off of it a couple of years ago and got to the point where I could hardly move. I went back on it and can function. Now I'm having a bad flare. If I miss a dose I'm in terrible pain, but feel sick overall for about 4 months
There was another comment about someone quitting after 10 years of use and they stated that within 2 months they felt amazing. I stopped taking opiates, Adderall, Benzos, and antidepressants seven years ago and have yet to fully recover. I am still way better than I was on them.
Yes...I have been on Gabapetein for 10 years and slowly my elections got smaller and less hard. Total bummer since the medicine was working so well for me. 😮
I was on Gabapentin for depression, and I got to a point where I didn't even want to get out of bed, for me it was the opposite of what it was supposed to do, and I know people who have similar problems on it like withdrawing from loved ones instead of embracing them.
I got everything up to the skin stuff when coming off of it. I took it for a month after a motorcycle accident. I’m still going through the depression anxiety weird thoughts sweaty hands random fears that don’t make sense. This is a dangerous drug at least when coming off of it.
Gabapentin was prescribed for 8 a day. I slept for 16 hours a day. I was dreaming and hallucinating daily. The dreams were so realistic. I dreamed i bought a house in the country. In my dreams, I went to the house over and over. I already live in a rural area. I would wake myself up by yelling and striking out. I also asked for DNR in my records...because I was waiting to die. A neurologist prescribed 8 a day. My regular doctor said drop it down and take 4 a day. So I took even less. Because I never felt any relief from the pills. Definitely got weakness. I'm trying hard to rebuild stamina. Got the congestion bad. Post nasal drip so bad, I gag. Sad part is, if you stop taking it, it gives you heart palpitations. So if you start, you can never stop. 😢
Yes, it works but I felt my brain changing, I was feeling sort of dizzy, my eye wouldn't stopped twitching, I was getting random pains in my nerves around my eyes, and weird headaches. I felt like I was a little drunk. Like I might fall. I was taking this to overcome pain from my broken shoulder healing. I just weened off it and now I'm suffering from lack of sleep. It did help me sleep. I have been off it for 4 days now.
My mom's Dr's had her on Gabapenton since 2009, I've begged them all to get her off of it. Well the past 3 years I've been in a huge legal battle with the courts, they want custody of her because she has over half these symptoms, especially the falling down, cognitive problems, they're trying to say she has Alzheimers, Dementia, Bipolar &DID all at the same time. The judge ordered her to be placed in a flipping home away from me her home & everything she knew. She just passed away right before Mother's Day & my heart & soul are broken, she never would've gone downhill at home with staying active, alert, I kept her busy doing crafts & going to the Ymca for light aerobics with an elderly group. But the judges exact words were no I want her in a home where she can be safe. I fought for 2 % 1/2 years & so much happened to my mom in that filthy place, she was raped, hit & forced to eat what everyone else was eating so I bought her her vegetarian food for her. This past Christmas I took in decorations, a tree, I made cookies & stuff. We decided the tree while I played Christmas songs on my phone. I decorated her entire space even with twinkling lights. She loved it. I made homemade mashed potatoes, Green beans & her favorite tofu burgers. I even put her gifts under her tree. These Dr's, lawyers, phciatrists had everything soo unbelievably wrong. The judge putting her there just made her deteriorate so quick.
That Crap is evil! An aquaintance, real nice smart guy was perscribed it for nerve pain in high school. He was leery and took only 1/4 of a dose. It was horrible for side effects and made horrible pain worse. Begged the so-called dr for something else. Messed his mind up and his whole side of his body kept jerking. Th guy put him on the same thing under another name and he went into seizures. Still was just so uncaring and awful. Guess he was getting kickbacks for perscribing it and prople were having horrible reactions. Karma got him finally as some of them spiked his coffee/drink w it. Took our friend Months to get over the side effects. That unfeeling guy ended up w millions in lawsuits and pulled licence!
@@We_Dont_Miss
I was at around that dose.
Hardly touched my CRPS pain, made my seizures way worse. I also developed nystagmus off and on, and a lazy eye.
I was essentially chemically lobotomized by it. I still feel different than I did before I started taking it.
Honestly I think it should be taken off the market.
I also have fibromialga and take 600 x 3 and no side effects
I’m the same it’s been 10 years now I can tell when I that second dose cause I try and do twice and three a must which has been lately. My neuropathy is bad
As soon as I hit 300×3 I was covered in hives even in my mouth, I had to go to the ER and they gave me steroids for the hives. I threw the rest of them in the toilet. Nope, I can't afford a $900 EpiPen if it closed up my throat.
I've taken gabapentin for many years, I haven't had any of tykes problems! It helps me with my back problems and I'd be lost without it!!!
I take it for trigeminal nurogal pain.
I take it for severe sciatica pain.

Thank you. I thought it was just me. Now i can help my husband understand that there is legitimacy to what I've been saying for years. Sadly, lack of understanding made a lot of these effects more impactful in different ways.
Love it. No side effects, I take it three times a day for severe neuropathy. Sorry all of you can't tolerate it, works great for me.

That's good that it helps with your symptoms.
Same. No problems
Maybe you ought to look into the affects on brain cells. It prevents cell regeneration.

It did not take my pain away. Also caused hairloss. My back pain was worse so was my neck pain. I reported to medical Doctor and ended the use. Thanks for sharing.
It's not really a good pain medication.
It affected my eyesight, change my personality, and made me neurotic.
One has to weight the bad against the good as with everything. I am only taking 900mg Gabapentin daily so i don't have any side effects yet, luckily.
It did the exact same thing to my mom too, she stopped taking it right away
I lost a loving relationship due to being prescribed 900 mg. Made me crazy.
It gave me a seizure disorder by taking 800 mg a day for 2 years. I still take 100 mg when I can't move.
As an RN, please don’t take this drug…it’s addictive as well…use homeopathic methods…
I take it when I'm hurting bad. Makes me feel great and gives me energy. Makes me a little high but also puts me in a better mood

My eyes tracked, and I lost a yrs worth of memory. It was a great pain med other than that.
I try to cut back and the nerve pain and itching is unbelievable and unbearable idk
I took it for a week, I felt unsure and unstable of my footing. Terrible drug. Just say NO to prescriptions.
Neurotoxins are no joke.. been damaged ten years from psych meds I was told were "safe and effective"
It does something weird to the brain. Gave me a seizure disorder.

What dose level? I tried pot gummies and even after eating the whole bag ..maybe 5 of them… felt nothing at all. Sure wish I had.
Sure it's not a withdrawal of the narcotic decrease he just basically switched out one for the other any other symptoms of withdrawal ?? good luck
Also watch because they like to blame narcotics abuse on patients not on over-prescribing so don't let them try to trick you into remaining on a medication causing you issues just because they don't want to continue to prescribe narcotics.
Gabapentin has been a life-saver for me for diabetic neuropathy. Only side effect I've noticed is myoclonus sometimes

Gabapentin?? Or Pregabalin??
I actually fell a few times whilst on it and stopped taking it. It made me dizzy.
Yes you do

What did you find worked for the severe pain?
Why no morphine?
I think you have to take everything with a grain of salt - I can't tolerate any antidepressants or hardly any medication - and gabapentin is one of the few drugs I actually take without noticing any side effects, I only take 1 to 2 hundred a day, but it helps me not feel overwhelmed emotionally with crying spells, etc and it seems to take the edge off physical pain (I'm 62, and have ongoing pain issues) , so I am just grateful I can take it, and that it makes s difference!!

I'm currently taking 600 mg a day for my sciatica. Helping tremendously.
It was the only thing that helped me with pain from shingles so that I cold actually sleep. Also when I have a bad sciatic attack. Oddly, it’s also recommended for my dogs to calm them before a vet visit.
Next time try cannabis oil. It's not addictive, doesn't need a perscription, doesn't upset your stomach, and works very well.
It helps me too, I was also given it in liquid form by vets for if a cat is in pain or needs calming:)
Yup, they gave it to my dog too, but she wasn't having any of that. Looked at me like i was trying to kill her when she tasted it. 😂
Same for cats also

I've been on Gabapentin for a couple months now to treat neuropathy in my feet.
Gabapentin 300 mg
1 at breakfast
2 at lunch
2 at bedtime
Thank God I don't have any of the symptoms you described.

I have a friend that became suicidal on gabapentin. I’m glad you got off of it before anything bad happened.🙏🏻💕
Lyrica about killed me.
NOT ONCE have any of my docs ever mentioned this as a side-effect (or any adverse effects for that matter...)
I recently had 4 hours of memory testing because I've been telling my docs for years that I feel like I have dementia since getting on gabapentin. They told me it's because of "my depression" and dismissed any possibility of the massive amounts of drugs they were giving me that are proven to cause memory damage...
When they hand you the ppr telling about the drug any drug, READ IT and decide if you are willing to take it.
Thank you. Very informative.
I've been taking gabapentin for about 12-13 yrs for extremely advanced osteoarthritis, fortunately I have never had side effects from it. I only take 1 a day at bed instead of 3 times a day. It definitely helps me.

I was just diagnosed with CRPS… I pray doing well.

Amen ❤❤🌹
It helped me with shingles on the scalp. Tremendous pain, no sleep, not eating. Gabapentin helped a lot. I feel
l good with it and sleep well with it.
Excellent presentation. Luckily, none of these side effects have occurred with me. But I will remain vigilant, now that I know.
Can you Please do a video on Topamax / Topiramate…
Thank You 🥰
I take this too. I've read that it also has many horrible side effects !!!
I was on these medications for years for migraines and my eye doctor made me stop taking them because it was causing me vision problems and said that it could cause glaucoma 🤦🏽♀️
It was prescribed to me for severe neck pain after a neck injury. My personality did a 180 - from kind and loving to violent and homicidal ideation.
Scary
I have been on Gabapentin for 8 years i never have had any problems
It’s horrible and didn’t do anything for what I was taking it for, fibromyalgia, and it changed my behavior made me borderline psychotic and just made me feel really weird, like my nerves were all buzzing at the same time.
Lyrica did that to me and then some.
This explains why my Mother began this RX in retirement care.
If the funds to be a covered patient were running out, I wouldn't doubt it.
Nerontine really helps me a lot I have taken it for 20 years now! It's always helped me in many ways it's a keeper for me also!
I asked my Doctor about my tremor and he told me that he doesn't have another drug that can treat my diabetic neuropathy. I get dry skin and anxiety also thin skin.
I Love your Kliban kitty. I just Love them.
How about Benfotamine ?
Thank u very much for your video about the side effects of gabapenten. I esp.liked the way u explained each one,it was very helpful and broke down in layman's terms which was a big help.thanks again!
If I don't take my morning dose I feel like I'm withdrawing from dope.
Hello. Have you experienced eye pain/fatigue?..
@@Lianne-qm4yp I don't recall experiencing eye pain, no. Fatigue, yes.
@@HeartIsHome8469 how are you now? Are you fully recovered?
@@Lianne-qm4yp I feel good , it's been over 9 months since being on that drug.
Years back I was prescribed Gabapentin for several months. Wierd things I noticed: twitching in my face, especially when trying to speak. Can't remember the other things but It was not helpful at all.
Yeah that’s basically being allergic to it. I’ve had psych meds give that and doctors now write it off as being allergic to whichever med caused it.
I had this side effect too. When I spoke, I had a stutter. Words got caught in my throat. It was frustrating and annoying
I'm so sorry about your cat. I am realizing how much these drugs have damaged our lives.
i think this was sold as lyrica in australia
Hmm. I haven't had any side effects and have been taking Gabapentin for about 4 years.
It's all just chance
@@max3eey I guess it is☺
You probably forgot them 😂
@@MarlenaWieseman Why do you say that? Or are you being facetious?
@@sandragriffiths9692 LOL its another known side effect of this medicine, forgetfulness
A lot of people report being more talkative on it.
It’s aptly named. Gabby pentin
I took gabapentin for an alternative painkiller with chronic back injury. It put me in the hospital from side effects of joint swelling couldn't walk for 3 days
I got were I could not think right. I got where I was hearing thing. !! It scared me,though I was going crazy. Never agein!!!
it never affected me menally because I really focaced on it to work for me pain wise
What is a better treatment for nerve pain and arthritis?
I have taken Nerontine over 20 years for Nero pains nerve damage and seizures it's always helped me! I call it a keeper also! God bless all you ❤✝️🕊️🩸
Yeah, I had the misfortune to be prescribed Gabapentin.
It clearly states on the leaflet to not drive.
It's a know thing that there is a need to read it before using.
So does every med you take. My doctor said it won’t affect me. It’s a low dose.
It used to help my neck and back pain but it doesn't anymore??? I don't know why or what they can give me instead.
Ive been on gaba for around a year, i just noticed it affecting my vision, i have to get off of it
thanks for sharing
I'm on this for fibro. I went off of it a couple of years ago and got to the point where I could hardly move. I went back on it and can function. Now I'm having a bad flare. If I miss a dose I'm in terrible pain, but feel sick overall for about 4 months
maybe all your overall sickness is from the drug, maybe
It's so hard to get off of. And you just can't stop taking it suddenly.
There was another comment about someone quitting after 10 years of use and they stated that within 2 months they felt amazing. I stopped taking opiates, Adderall, Benzos, and antidepressants seven years ago and have yet to fully recover. I am still way better than I was on them.
Yes, weaning is very important.! I'm a nurse and havecseen people not offered so taper with shingles treatment and ended up in hospital.
Yes...I have been on Gabapetein for 10 years and slowly my elections got smaller and less hard. Total bummer since the medicine was working so well for me. 😮
One thing I had was severe blurry vision and seeing bright white and blue flashes of light. I also had severe muscle pain and it made me stiff
It works wonders for Sciatica ❤
I was given gabapentin for shingles pain. It was the most addicting thing I have ever taken. I had to stop it very slowly.
so whats considered a "higher dose" of gabapentin? thank you very much for the awesome informative video too
I have to take this medication and don’t like the side effects, but it does help the pain in calves of my legs, along with a mild pain medication.
This breaks my heart. I’m so very sorry that you and your mom had to endure this devastating experience.
