After his solo he drops even lower to do the bottom of the repeating "sleeping in his grave" and it doesn't get noticed/commented on enough because people are shook at his initial solo.. but man, that is impressive. I love that you called it out!
Mayday is a good one, Ring of Fire, End of the Road, The Butts Remix, Amazing Grace and any of their mash ups just to name a few. Also give a listen to Misty Mountains by Peter Hollins & Tim Foust the bass from this group. Also on a side note another artist that is truly amazing is Haley Reinhart if you have not found her yet. She does some incredible work with PMJ (Post Modern Jukebox).
Welcome to Home Free! You are going to get a ton of recommendations but they can sing everything. Serious to funny, country to R&B, to motown to pop. And the fans are called Home Fries!
Tim Foust (The bass) has an incredible vocal range. I am convinced the man is a walking piano. Watch their "Ring of Fire" and "Folsom Prison Blues" and "MayDay", and "Snow Globe", and "Everybody Walking This Land" and "Do You Hear What I Hear" and "How Great Thou Art" and "All about the Bass" and "Misty Mountains" and heck........... everything they do is good. Just feast on having your ears messaged, and be surprised by the different genre they do, from serious to hysterical.
Hi, Madeleine... I really enjoyed your delighted & delightful (and knowledgeable) reaction to this version of this song. Like you I knew it first as a fairly ancient Kentucky folk song, and found this rendition to be mind-blowing!
I've watched many reaction videos to these guys and I can say that you're the only person that caught how Tim's voice goes even deeper then what most comment on. Finally I said 'YES!...she caught it!'
@@cydrych Was that a Southern twang which krept in with her wee little Scottish accent. I always found Madaleine Harvey very very articulate. I had to smile when it looked like her Kentucky roots popped up😀😀
@@micheltibon6552 yeah, it was definitely a hybrid Scottish/Appalachian. It’s quite a familiar sound. My family settled in VA right on the KY boarder when they came here from Scotland.
@@cydrych Yes, I recently looked up a refence to some Appalachian folk songs/sounds and that their roots could be traced to Scottish songs as a lot of settlers were Ulster Scots or Scots who migrated to the United States. I understand there is a lot of upset if I link the Appalachian singing tradition with the Irish singing traditions😀 and I don´t want to offend.
What an intelligent, sensitive, discerning, articulate take! I have heard literally dozens of reactions to this piece (and it never gets old!)--and have never heard an analysis with greater depth and awareness.
I too have listened to any number of "reactions" to this song and you have taken the words right out of my mouth. I particularly liked the fact that she didn't go all histrionic in her "surprise". You couldn't have said it any better.
I've Subscribed to your Channel! You are Very Good to listen to! With regards to my previous comments it is Extremely Important to wear Headphones for Home Free! Anyways I am not sure that you noticed at the end that it was Adam Chance, known as Chance (the guy who wore a Cowboy Hat but has the beard and mustache) that was doing the "Jaw Harp" sounds throughout the video! He's a Baritone with 4 Octave Range. Tim the Bassist has a 5 Octave Range. Rob the bearded one is the Tenor (2nd Lead), Austin is the High Tenor (1st Lead here) and Adam Rupp The Beatboxer Extraordinaire! Lot's of music to wet your whistle on here in this group!
I subscribed after you said "more" of Home Free. You can't go wrong with any of their stuff, but to mention a few - Mayday, Hillbilly Bone, Helplessly Hoping, Everybody Walkin This Land, In the Blood, End of the Road . . .
Welcome to the world of Home Free!! These guys started in my state of Minnesota, and I fell in love immediately. Tim Foust, the bass, likes to hang out in the mines of Moria with his insane bass depth, but he can also sing some amazing tenor as well, and your reaction to his low notes was priceless. Adam Rupp, the beatboxer/walking percussion machine, is simply not human. I recommend you listen to my favorite song of theirs, "Do You Hear What I Hear?" (filmed in front of the Winter Carnival ice castle in Minnesota). Then move on to "How Great Thou Art," "Ring of Fire" (featuring Avi Kaplan from Pentatonix, another insanely awesome bass), "All About That Bass" (which shows their goofy side), "Seven Bridges Road"....and pretty much everything else they do. :) Have fun!!
I LOVE your reactions, this was my first time listening to this version and I felt like I was listening to it with you, so much so that we made eye contact when the bass singer had his moment, hahaha, I had to make sure I wasn't the only one blown away! I don't know much or anything about vocals/singing but I do love music and you explain things so well! Very much enjoy your channel! 10/10! Gonna go and listening to that song again!
Welcome to the new world of a capella. Home Free and Pentatonix have rewritten the book on a capella worldwide. All of the suggestions for more songs to listen to are great. For Home Free may I recommend their "Ring of Fire" (Johnny Cash), my favorite, "Helplessly Hoping" (Crosby, Stills & Nash) (and then a quarantined Italian Youth Choir's cover of Home Free's arrangement), and of course any of their Christmas music. Pentatonix has 3 Grammys, one for their "Daft Punk Medley" (Daft Punk), one for their" Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies" (Tchaikovsky), and one for basically being Dolly Parton's backup band(?) on "Jolene". Also, try "Hallelujah" (Leonard Cohen), "Imagine" (John Lennon), "Bohemian Rhapsody" (Queen), "Mad World" (Tears for Fears), and of course, any of their Christmas music.
You're so articulate and knowledgeable. All the qualities in their voices that I've noticed, but couldn't quite put words to, you are able to perfectly capture in speech. I appreciate that!
Kentucky might as well be south Canada. Being from Mississippi and having lived all over “the south”, Kentucky included... anything north of Southaven is the middle, not the south.
Hi Madeleine, I just subscribed to your channel. I love your reaction and look forward to more Home Free videos. Home Free is very creative as you discover and also very talented, versatile, hilarious and an awesome group of guys. The guy in the overall is Rob Lundquist, he is the lead tenor, the guy who looks right in the camera is Austin Brown, the high tenor, The bass is Tim Foust, and the baritone is Chance and most importantly is Adam Rupp the Beat Boxer. I can assure you that you will not be disappointed by Home Free.

Welcome to the world of Home Free. These guys are awesome. All their song are great. Check out their cover of the O'Jays, Love Train. Or maybe Can't Stop The Feeling. You'll love them all.
Their cover of Mayers "In the blood" is excellent as is their take on "Helplessly hoping". Actually they are consistently excellent in every song they put out.
Subscribed for Home Free, everything they do is awesome. Have to agree with How Great Thou Art and Misty Mountain......and Butts Remix, it will make you smile.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Home Free! The bass is Tim Foust - he has a 5+ octive range. Austin Brown is the high tenor (vest) Rob the one with the overalls is the 2nd tenor. Adam Chance is the baritone/2nd bass and Adam "freak of nature" Rupp is their beatboxer. You should hear them in person - their concerts are AMAZING!!!
Beatboxer Adam Rupp co-founded the group in 2000. Tenor Rob Lundquist (full beard) signed up in 2008, about the time that the group went full-time. Bass Tim Foust and his 5+ octave range joined in 2010. Redheaded tenor Austin Brown was pressed into service in 2012 after meeting the group on a cruise ship. Adam "Chance" is the newest member of the group. He is the "baritone" only because his voice is only ridiculously low, rather than freakishly low like Foust's.
Wow these guys are awesome....anyone notice the little rap the guy in the bibs threw in @ 9:16. Can't stop listening to these guys and the base guy, holy cow.
Welcome to Home Free! The bass, Tim Foust, has a range as long as your arm. He's working on his 6th octave. Try Mayday for some of his high range. Thanks! ^_^
I usually don't suggest Mayday right away and encourage reactors to wait. But as a voice coach, and someone who recognized Tim's bass at the start, this is the only reason I suggest this song on the first listen to Home Free.
So I've watched dozens of coaches and singers react to this song. You are the first one to point out Tim's (bass singer) low part in the response at the end of his solo part. THANK YOU!!!
Well hello Madeleine Harvey! What a lovely lady. What a lovely accent. What a lovely reaction. I have seen quite a few reactions to this version of this song and this one was just... lovely. I enjoyed it as much as the song. Well, well, well...
Great reaction! Home Free is great! Subbed and hope to see more Home Free reaction from you! A great one is 'can't stop the feeling' , Butts medley and one of my favorites 'Diamond Dreams' (it's a song from when they were quarantined)
I'm in North Carolina, but my Pappy's side of the family has been in Whitley County, KY, since right after the Revolutionary War. It's always nice to see such a good first reaction to Home Free from a trained vocal musician. Not only are they great artists, but they are decent folk too.
I discovered this clip just the other day, and since then I've been watching one reaction video after another. Each time I zero in on the point where the bass solo starts, because the reactions to that moment are priceless.
I love your description of Tim's (the bass) voice. I have no musical education but I've always said that there is a brightness to his bass which is so different from other bass singers. Actually, as you get to hear his 5-octave range I think you'll hear the brightness (or whatever the right term is for it) as he moves up his range. Thank you for your reaction, Enjoy exploring this amazing group. I just subscribed
I love your reaction , I'm just starting to watch reactions . I never knew about this till recently. I love your reaction , especially the bass part . I love Homefree , please do more Homefree reactions , i will watch them all . Your the only reactor whom notice that bass dropped down when course came back in . You notice things most of the other reactors haven't. Thank you so much , loving it . Keep them going
Okay you are an absolute instant follow for one particular reason. Almost all of the reactions to this video never talk about when Tim drops underneath the rest of them after his solo and goes so low unbelievably low it is so amazing and you hit on it instantly. That tells me you're going to be a fun subscribe. I love watching the reactions but I love when people are incredibly knowledgeable and can pass it along and help me learn too.
HAHAHA!!!!!!!!! So much fun to watch. Been watching people reacting to HomeFree for a couple of years now. I have yet to see a single one of them watching this song and NOT be bobbing and dancing in their chairs, even when they claim not to be fans of country music.
really enjoyed your reaction to Home Free, more please! You can't go wrong with any of their songs but their cover of "Ring of Fire" is a real showcase of terrific bass singers. Thanks again!
It is a joy when all of my favorite reactors get to the great deliciousness that is Home Free. Others have, before me, offered good recommendations, so I'll just echo a few (anything by these guys is worthwhile). They brought country acapella to the forefront by winning the "Sing Off." And they do amazing Johnny Cash: "Ring of Fire" (everyone gravitates to that one) and "Folsom Prison Blues." They've gone beyond country; the Boyz 2 Men song "End of the Road" is incredible. If Christmas hadn't just passed, I'd recommend "Do You Hear What I Hear." It will become quickly apparent that beatboxer Adam Rupp arranged it. Someone below said it well that you may soon find yourself going down a rabbit hole of Home Free ... and NOT regretting it.
May I suggest their version of Johnny Cash Ring of Fire featuring Avi from Pentatonix and their version of End of the Road by Boys to Men? I think you will dig both. As a fellow Appalachian (VA) I appreciated your choice of descriptive terms in this one. 😂✌🏻
@@belinda9696 been there many times. Have family in and around Roanoke. Hoping to move back one day. I have a small piece of land on an old strip job site that should make a great homestead.
The very last guy you see in this video is doing the Jew's Harp sound that you called a didgeridoo in the beginning of this song. Their cover of "Ring of Fire" is also cool because they had a guest bass singer so there were 2 basses, and both show their range which I have to say is impressive. If you like delicious chords done by two layered voices, check out Peter Hollens and Tim Foust (Home Free bass) doing "Misty Mountains. I would suggest a good pair of headphones for that second video, it is nothing short of wonderful that way.
Gday, I have recently come across your channel as a fan of reaction videos. I notice you have done 2 of the 3 most reacted to rock/metal videos in Nightwish - Ghost Love Score (live Waken 2013) and Jinjer - Pisces (studio session). The third one of the holy trinity of rock/metal reactions is "Devin Townsend - Kingdom (live EMGTV)" this performance will blow your mind as much as the other two. Devin is a Canadian singer songwriter that has a career and body of work spanning nearly 30 years and is still going very strong. He also has an army of reaction fans that will come and give you his history and all the best songs to react to after this one.
I was thinking, "It's been a little over a month since she's posted another video." And then you surprised me. Thank you Madeleine. I REALLY look forward to affording a lesson with you! 😄
If you want to hear more of Tim Foust's deep, deep bass, try Folsom Prison Blues. Their beatboxer, Adam Rupp, is an absolute freak of nature, but the jaws harp sound was being produced by their baritone, Adam Chance (usually just called Chance to distinguish him from the beatboxer). Somewhere I read that he produces that sound using a technique called throat singing.
Terrific job, Madeleine! Your analysis is spot on! They are a remarkably diverse group. Next I would recommend their version of Mayday! Superb performance and versatility!
They are making all of the sounds with their voices...Beat-box, harmonica, the jawbone sound & all of the harmonies!!! Welcome to the "Home Free" rabbit-hole!!! Not if, but when you become a fan of theirs you will be called a "Home-Fry." Please react to these other songs by them: "End Of The Road" (Boyz To Men Cover), "Love Train" (O'Jays Cover) and "Ring Of Fire" (Johnny Cash Cover)...You will be glad you did!!!
You nailed it! This is one of my favorite acapella arrangements out there and I've watched it about 2 dozen times (no kidding. Lol) and first thing through you nailed all the key points. Subscribed and I'm an instant fan.
This song was featured in the movie " Oh Brother Where art Thou", and the video was done in Lower Alabama. Love this group of guys! I'm a new subscriber & a Home Fry.
Part Two: Home Free sings everything from the silly (Butts Remix, Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer) to the sacred (How Great Thou Art, Go Rest High On That Mountain). Even better, they do them all spectacularly.

As Kevin Clements said, as a vocal coach you really should listen to their cover of the Crosby, Stills, and Nash song "Helplessly Hoping" and to their version of "How Great Thou Art." And if you want to hear more of Tim Foust (the bass) listen to their cover of Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues" and their version of "Everybody Walkin' This Land."
If you do “Everybody Walk-in’ This Land” please stay for Tim Faust’s closing remarks. I’ve missed you, I hope you will continue with Home Free. I’m a true Home Fry.

Thank you for your reaction, Enjoy exploring this amazing group. I just subscribed
I love the reactions to Tim's voice. Every reaction video I've seen cracks me up when Tim takes the lead in this song.
Hi, new subscriber. Great reaction, looking forward to seeing more Home Free 😊
I'm very impressed. You are one of the few reactors who caught that drop. Good job!
You might also check out their amazing harmonies in "How Great Thou Art" and "Hoplessly Helping"
👍👍 Whole heartily agree with both of these 👍👍
More Home Free please. They love to step outside the box.
I wasn’t into a cappella until I saw them and I absolutely love them and listen to them daily 🤘🤘
YEEEESSSSS! That cover is a masterpiece
I'm from VA too.
@@belinda9696 I’m in MI now. From Buchanan county VA.
@@cydrych Buchanan is just a stone's throw from Roanoke.
Hi from a fellow Kentuckian. First time watching, and really enjoyed it. And yeah, I think you're really gonna enjoy a lot the of Home Free covers.
Catch their Ring of Fire. Two world class basses, Avi from Pentatonix joined them.
Love reaction videos and you've picked something not usually reacted to. Loved this!
You nailed it! This is one of my favorite acapella arrangements out there and I've watched it about 2 dozen times (no kidding. Lol) and first thing through you nailed all the key points. Subscribed and I'm an instant fan.
I love your reaction. So much attention to the details.
This song was featured in the movie " Oh Brother Where art Thou", and the video was done in Lower Alabama. Love this group of guys! I'm a new subscriber & a Home Fry.
wow, you're like a sommelier of song... you helped me appreciate that song, and that group, much more deeply... thanks 👍😊
Madeleine welcome to the Home Fry family. Home Free has a lot of amazing songs and I can't wait to see your reactions to them. Gained a new sub here!
Ya'll from Kentucky and don't know what a "Juice Harp" is? Darlin, that is not a Didgeridoo. Bless yer heart.
Part Two: Home Free sings everything from the silly (Butts Remix, Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer) to the sacred (How Great Thou Art, Go Rest High On That Mountain). Even better, they do them all spectacularly.
Tim is the bass, he's our Texas boy!!😎😎
young lady......ive just "discovered" your channel and thoroughly enjoyed your wonderful extremely educational reaction to this great rendition of "man of constant sorrow" by the one and only "Home Free"!!
if u enjoyed this one then i implore u to check out all of the well over 200 vids they've done!!
one more thing...the Base singer....believe it or not...has a 5 octive range!
Thank you once again Ms Harvey! take care and God Bless
At the end of his part Tim (long haired bearded bass) did an A1 - Bb1 - B1- C2 Chest fry slide :)
Home Free Rabbit Hole Alert! We Home Fries welcome you!! I'll see you at the meetings! Keep the Home Free Home Fry home fires burnin'!!
I enjoyed your reaction as much as I did the featured group. Well done!
You have to listen to all their music. They can sing anything!!
Take a look at Voiceplay if youre interested in more acapella, their bass is absolutely insane as well!
In addition to Voiceplay's singing talents, they do some "theatrical" videos; "Oogie Boogie's Song" for instance. ... Guy
Yeah, listen to Geoff Castelluci's version of Sixteen Tons. Both he and Tim are above excellent.
Also Geoff’s covers of “Headless Horseman,” “Bare Necessities,” and “Blackbird”!
For Home Free you MUST wear Headphones 🎧 to get the Full Sounds! Extremely Important! You miss so much when you aren't wearing them! You are catching alot in your review of your Reaction though! 😁
Congrats Madeleine! You are one of the very few who got Tims drop after his solo part. So I liked your video the moment I realized. :)
Oh and yeah Tim Foust the bass is awesome he has a 5 octive Range. Him and Geoff Castellucii from Voiceplay have amazing ranges as well sub harmonic to high tenor.
welcome t the homefries
hi! I just wanted to say thank you so much! from continually practicing your videos over and over again throughout the past year I have taught myself to belt and I got a lead role in my high school musical as a sophomore! I seriously mean this when I say I could not have done it without you. Thank you!!!!!!
OMGoodess I am so glad I finally found your channel..... love your reactions
Tim Faust (Home Free), Avi Kaplan (formerly Pentatonix, now solo), and Geoff Castellucci (solo, and VoicePlay) all got blessed with the bass gene.
Madeleine: "The contrast between the first two singers is really lovely". Tim: "Well, y'all hold my beer...." lol
So awesome! the song, the video, the voices...but also, your reaction! I love watching you respond to this, both visually and what you had to say. So alive, and inspiring. Please keep doing these, I learned a lot. also how much i love music like this, to listen and to sing. My mom sang a lot of oldtimey music, and Im going to move in the direction for a minute!
Home free Ring Of Fire. Can’t wait for you to hear Tim‘s voice.
