This week we finally get the rumor we were all expecting, a PlayStation showcase coming next month. That, and we have another report about PS5 Pro. Apparently we know have a list of conditions that developers may have to meet in order to receiver a 'PS5 Pro Enhanced' label on their games. Also, we have various rumors from another leaker account that is instead getting called out for being a fraud. Who coulda saw that coming?? We also learned about some day 1 PS Plus Extra games, and news regarding a Stellar Blade sequel. Jim Ryan also said they actually sold 160 million PS2's, which some people seem to have a problem with. Shocker that people would gasp disagree with Jimothy Ryan. Even from the grave?? So disrespectful.

I bought a PS VR from Amazon a few weeks ago (they were very low in stock) and Sony sent me the PS5 camera adapter. The game Rescue Mission is tons of fun, I just feel scared when I try to look around because I feel like I'm going to bump my head into something.

I also hate the "PS2 only sold well because it was a DVD player" hand wave. PS2's software sales figure is massive and lines up with the console sales numbers. That is the true indication of a platform's success. If loads and loads of people were buying PS2s without the intention to play games, then the software sales would reflect that.
For an example of a similar argument where it actually is backed up by evidence, look at the Wii. It has the highest hardware sales numbers that generation, but the software sales number is less than the PS3 and 360 which each sold ~20 million less units. Many people bought a Wii just to play the pack-in game and the low software sales back that up.
Xbots will say anything to justify their miserable brand’s mediocrity and failures. 😂
That claim also ignores the fact that the PS1 sold over 100 million units and wasn’t a DVD player.
The bigger and better successor was always going to be doing amazingly well.
If DVD Playback was all that mattered, the OG Xbox (also a DVD Player) would have sold massive numbers as well.
I've never heard anyone say it's the "only" reason it sold so well, but I think it was a major factor in it being the best-selling console ever. It put it over the top of its main competitors at the time, because parents were easily swayed by the fact it doubled as a DVD player. At the same time, if it wasn't a top class gaming console then it wouldn't have come close to setting that record.
@@SteMcGovern Many people have claimed that a massive portion of its sales were just for the DVD player. Its software sales is the clear refutation to that argument.
People also claim the people only bought the PSP to hack it, but its software sales figures are a little less than the GBA which has almost the same hardware sales numbers.
The point is people try to throw all these excuses out to handwave away success when they have no evidence to support those excuses. Software sales are a clear and inarguable indicator of a platform's success.

To be fair, when my household got a PS2, it was about £50 cheaper then the cheapest dvd player at Woolworths (RIP), was allowed to get a few games afterwards as we had the machine.

firstly - OG Xbox literally had a DVD player and was the same or cheaper price than PS2 and it sold terribly like GameCube. Therefore your PS2 DVD argument is insidious and not based on reality and falters right here vs OG xbox. But lets go in-depth.

Honestly super hyped for Stellar Blade. Didnt't know what to expect but the demo **really** clicked with me. Like a good mix between Sekiro, NieR Automata and DMC. And those are 3 of my favorite games. It just really clicked with me and I can't wait to see reviews and homely jump in!

I'd be hard-pressed to believe that even as few as 3 million PS2s were used *_exclusively_* as DVD players.
It was the first region free DVD player at launch with the help of an overlooked cheat code
it's still a plausible argument. Remember when PS3 first launched, they packed in movies with it. Partly to accelerate blu-ray adoption as the cheapest blu rayy player at the time, but also because last generation, tons of people used their PS2 as a DVD player. in fact, PS2 had a very common disc drive failure issue because of people who utilized it as a games and media device, the eye that read the discs read at a different position depeding on whether it was a game or a CD/DVD, the eye would get stuck in either or position. If you look at the leaked sales data from last year, Sony first party games on PS2 for the most part didn't sell beyond 5 million copies, outside of Gran Turismo, which had double-digit million copies and the only games that came close I believe, was the Grand Theft Auto games, with GTA: San Andreas being the best selling PS2 game of all time. God of War, which was the second highest selling first party franchise on PS2, sold 4.4 million, and GoW2 sold 4.6 million, which are really good numbers for the time. Comparatively, and just to put it out there, Im not console warring. I never played a Xbox game until I got an Xbox 360, but Halo: Combat Evolved sold over 5 million copies and Halo 2 sold over 8 million, despite far less people buying the Xbox console. Xbox back then was being outsold 6:1 globally by the PS2 and it also had a DVD drive. Only about 24 million people bought an original Xbox and I was not one of them. I had a PS2 and my beloved GameCube.
Using Ryan's attach rate argument, which in good faith favors PS2 to a general sense, saying there were about 10 games to one PS2 console. If talking about any one game, it does not favor. With Xbox, about 33.333% of everyone that had an original Xbox bought Halo 2 new, which was really good as even in the 8th gen, Xbox One and PS4 first partyattach rates were comparaatively lower. PS4 was actually the first console where more first party games started seeing 10% attach rates. And I say "new" bc the secondhand market blew up during this gen, so there could have been more people that bought these games, but the data is unverifiable. Accounting for a minimum 160 million PS2 sold, as per Jim Ryan's statements, and God of War 2's 4.6 million copies as the second highest first party franchise at the time, only 2.75 - 3.05% of everyone that owned a PS2 bought God of War 2 new. And again, the actual number of copies sold is still good, especially when development costs were cheaper and the dollar was stronger so even in the first few million, games have long since earned profit, not debating that at all. But comapred to PS1 first party which regularly sold about a million or so, that increase doesn't seem that much larger despite more people having bought PS2 compared to PS1 at every comparative point of the gen.

As most pro consoles do lmao, but then again you have to consider GTA6. Sony wants PS5 Pro to be the best console when that game releases, especially since it won't be on PC at first, and XBox will likely be at least on par with whatever pro consoles they release, but their abandoning physical games with their pro console. So when thousands of people will buy a PS5 Pro or XBox Pro just for GTA6, and only one still offers a disc drive and hopefully better specs, PS5 Pro will do well.

I rented 'Immortals..." from Gamefly and couldn't even get past the "sign in to EA servers" screen because of something to do with my EA account. Worked just fine when I played Jedi Survivor when it came out.

Have to say while I dont think people bought the PS2 just to be a DVD player, I do think it was a lot of peoples first DVD player. In the UK it was certainly cheaper than buying an actual DVD player and the fact it played games as well was a no brainer for most people to buy one. I used to have a disc you had to put in before playing a movie from other regions and a switcher cable to switch to NTSC as otherwise it would be black and white.
I only bought a separate DVD player when they became more affordable, and you could buy either a region free player or buy one that you could enter a code to unlock it. Also, I got a bit tired of the sound and video going out of sync part way through a film, necessitating pausing to get it back in sync.
So yeah it certainly was a big selling point at least in the UK.

PS Portal needs an update to make it 59.94hz or change Remote Play to output 60hz. It still has some micro stutters
its totally true that a lot of people (millions, like you said) bought PS2s JUST for the DVD player. With 155 million sales, all you would need is 1 out of 155 people to buy one for that reason, and you would have a million. Also real DVD players were cheap, DVD were costing $100 by 2002 itself. Meanwhile PS2 kept selling till 2013 well past DVD high days and already when dvd players were dirt cheap by 2003.
Does console need a patch revision feature where you can choose what version of the game to install. But only the most uptodate can play online.
Although it's probably still overkill and unnecessary complications, that could confuse more users. So maybe it's not worth it but would be cool for singleplayers games.

Wolverine and Resident Evil 9 will be on PlayStation Showcase in May?
In 2016 I got the uncharted 4 platinum by uninstalling the game. I could not get the speed run trophy. There was a glitch on version 1.0 were if you played the first and last chapter the trophy would pop. I played it off the dice with my internet turned off, and got my plat. Physical media does have some benefits
Portal Update seems to be fine at first and then like an hour into it and then just freezes and loses connection. I can just reconnect and it works fine for a while and then freezes again.

Stuff we need in future PlayStation updates
1. Being able to separate party chat audio from recordings when sharing them
2. Being able to use voice keyboard inside of games
3. Fix an annoying bug that suspends your game when trying to save a clip with a full storage, thus deleting your clip
4. Being able to record System UI
5. Explore tab in all regions
6. This is more of a visual thing but it would be cool to make the default selection in the quick menu to be on the home button rather than being on the far left
7. I'm not a storage expert but if it's possible to make video clips and screenshots to save on your m.2 SSD that would be helpful!
8. Letting more 3rd party services the ability to create media apps for the PlayStation
9. PlayStation Stars being in all regions
10. Being able to check for updates in the library tab, this is currently limited to games that are on the homescreen
11. Backing up save files using a usb on PS5 and not being limited to cloud storage only
12. PS4 players should be able to see your share screen
These were some of the most important things that the current state for the PS5 software need after owning the console since launch day.

All the people who worked on Jak and Daxter left Naughty Dog a while ago, now we have Neil Wokemann leading the company.
Uhhh I thought there was no way to not update your Portal, like it makes you connect to the internet to use it, it is a streaming device, not a piece of hardware that runs native hardware.
And when you connect to the internet the Portal makes you update it... Spawn Wave went over this.
So even if you held onto a brand new one... You aren't going to be able to use it without an update automatically being applied.

Ps4 pro patches did not have fees, so i doubt they will do it with the 5 pro

9:40 on this topic, i think back to the Demons Souls Remake. On the 1.0 version there was 1 or 2 glutches that you could do to gain essentially infinite souls, but this was quickly patched out.
But since i own the disc i just deleted the game, re inserted the disc andwas able to do the glitch to get the souls, then uodate back to the vurrent version.
Just one reason why ill always advocate for physical.

Your game staying in the hands of players matters.

PS Portal is definitely better, not a placebo. But I recommend leaving it on the 2.4Ghz. The 5Ghz still drops occasionally.
I would be shocked if it's a showcase. I only expect a State of Play to be honest. Do they have enough content coming for a showcase this year? Maybe next year, but certainly not this year.
At the start especially in Japan the DVD inclusion WAS a huge factor. The ps2 was cheaper than most DVD players plus don't forget the initial launch of games for ps2 was appalling. So this feature really helped ps2 get a foot in the door.

That’s not what was reported at all. It’s the *currently* most pre-ordered game in the US and UK, not the most preordered game of all time. That’s an insane thing to claim when games like GTAV exist.

Indies are so much more appropriate for subscription services, just in terms of cost of development versus the revenue from sub costs, it does not make sense to put AAA games launching there, but indies at launch are perfect for it, not all of them but curated and select ones

In order to really put that talking point about PS2 being a cheap DVD player to rest, we also need the average # of games PS2 owners have. I know my self, i have about 45 games. So if you use that attach rate metric ratio as a baseline of 10 games, then for my 45 games and 1 PS2, that means there were atleast 3 other counsoles out there that had no games purchased. Thats just how numbers work.
It's a little sad seeing live service games dominating the most played but I guess understandable? Live service will become the goal for many publishers.
why's that sad, it's only natural, single players peak on their first week or two when everybody plays them, and then they go back to mp games

Why does no one do research when it comes to the portal ppsspp google engineer guy? The guy who made the vulnerability has a huge hand in modding and jailbreaking a LOT of consoles. But somehow the portal is different... if anything, having a jailbroken portal would make the portal sold more, hes genuinely just shooting sony in the foot by doing this.
People saying ps2 was a cheap dvd player is nonsense when you look at its game library while also playing all ps1 games which also had an amazing library. Switch lite is not even a console and those sales shouldn't even count towards ps2 sales.
I usecto never use my PS2 for dvds. I know some ppl who did. It definitely wasn't a cheap dvd player I agree. I did use the ps3 to watch a lot of blu-rays though. 👍

No, no we aren't. We should not be expecting that Sony 1st party games will be announced and released this year. The PlayStation execs have literally been straight up with that info when doing its investor call.
To be real with everyone, when it comes to this PS Showcase... I would set your expectations WAY LOW.
What do I think we should expect...
Destiny 2, The Final Shape. The final DLC, They are going to do whatever they can to try and actually make some money off of this acquisition that they spent over a billion just to retain the staff so Bungie can advise how to do this live service game thing...
Except currently Bungie is failing hard at running Destiny 2 as a proper live service.
LoL Right now it looks like they would have been better off paying for Arrowheads expertise on how to run a live service... Hell Divers 2 is keeping a lot more people interested than Destiny 2 has in 2024.

PS2 was a great console, all of my relatives loved it because there was a game for everyone, racers for me, shooters for my dad, adventures for my mom, etc. We never actually used PS2 as a DVD player😂 and I still have the system, it’s the best generation and we still find some hidden gems to play!

I dont play live service games I am more of a single player gamer so as the industry shifts to more live serivce it means I will be buying less games since the idea of playing the same game over and over for years is just nauseating to me.

I truly hope the industry does make many PS5 pro enhanced games.
Rise of Ronin is my GOTY 2024. Why? *GAMEPLAY!* not only is it classic Nioh-like greatness, but it was smooth 60 even on rooms full of enemies.
PS4 was a great console and the deal of getting a PS5 was supposed to be 60 FPS. So this time they better keep that promise!
I think biggest proponent for devs starting to do PS5 Pro Enhanced will be GTA6. The pro console will release before GTA6, and R* will of course want their game to run as good as it can on launch, especially since console will be it's only platform at first. With PS5 Pro seemingly to be the best console at that point, if R* makes an effort to care about PS5 Pro Enhanced, other devs will too. And either way, the only devs that matters for is exclusives keeping up with it

There are still more people playing on a PS4 than a PS5. Most say it's the price and lack of new games. They are happy playing their physical games on the PS4.
