Shiet, you got me ... I did the same. Wanted a big powerful system and I didn't want to pay a few years of my life to just dream about while saving for it ... So I instead spend 2 years on saving & building as I save! Much more interesting, the end result is also far superior to any shop product beside some real best brands. :)
I recently had Patrick build a monster 10 inch subwoofer for me, creamsicle orange ti basket, on his quad stack magnet, with his 8 layer flat wound d.5 hard wired to create a single 1ohm load. I will not share what I paid for it, but I will say that I definitely did not pay what it would have cost if I bought from a branded car audio entity. It even has the carbon fibre dust cap, similar to what dd audio utilizes. If I had the real estate, I would've got him to build two of them.
I'm trying brother. Now that the little brother (me)isn't trying to carry the big brothers. I remember what you said to me a couple of months ago. About selling my current speakers to move up in size and/or class.
Really great info. Deff would like to get more info and see how things turn out for you. Those t2 extremes looks great and at an awesome price. Maybe I can have you build be something when you get everything going
Is it possible to make coils from scratch? So many parts so little time. Old vid but extremely relevant to me nowadays. So where would I find a magnetizer in Santa Cruz CA area. I know I’m getting ahead of myself, just wondering 🕵️♂️
I have some interesting ideas for new motor concepts. Some of them are similar to the ascendant audio SMD that has two motors with two sets of coils on one former. Another is a ball shaped motor where the "top plate" is in the middle. (this one is mostly for fun)
@@RobotUnderground thought about just transferring the pattern over to some 18 inch ti frames i have. worried a bit about the alignment between the jl frame and the ti, may 3d print something to help with that though. i already have the coils getting low on spiders and cones though. plus im in alaska shipping a completed top will be spendy thats why i was interested in the adapter plate,
@@RobotUnderground yeah ive actually got a machine shop right next to my place. became a home owner about 10 years ago by buying a spot next to the industrial district here that no one else wanted. dudes over there are pretty cool too. sure theres a lot of noise from the heavy machinery in the lots by my place but i get to stay home with my kids and do my own thing thanks to this place rather than work a 9 - 5 or go back to the slope or some bs. im gonna make something kinda like those plates but out of pla or abs on the printer that way i can bolt it onto the ti frame then have a guide for drilling the new pattern. might try to make one that has all the various patterns ive found on motors and frames. i think an aluminum plate would be best but should be able to get by with a printed one. glad i saw this video got the gears turning almost gave up and just reused the jl frame
whats really nice is im right outside of city limits so i dont have to abide by their stupid rules, every now and then someone tries to make me but i remind them im not in city limits then the people from the new little neighborhood down the way try to get me to comply with their HOA rules and i get to tell them to piss off this place was built in 1968 i dont need to follow their rules or have anything to do with their HOA
Yup!! That’s why I’ve been using the same sub builder for years now. I want bad ass subs but I’ll be damned if I’m going to pay freakn retail on cookie cutter subs. Besides I’m a fan of 4 inch coils not many new subs are doing 4’s there doing 3’s my solo X 18 motors use 3.5’s. YEs, lots of clients in remote areas have made their own coils. But I'd only recommend it as a last resort.
@@RobotUnderground ya I figured as much. Thanks
Man and I thought I did something bad ass when I built my old W7 into a 18 inch lmao boy was I wrong lmao
