Dayton DATS V3 is their latest speaker tester. I've got the V2 and they're worth every cent imo. I'd recommend a USB microphone (Umik-1 from MiniDSP or a Dayton mic) for anyone interested in this shit from speaker modeling, building to room/car calibration. Keep up the good work mate
imm6 is good for quick and easy tuning in car. I couldnt get it to work with REW but now that Ive sorted the issues I was suddenly having with my new dats I thnk it was windows blocking it. Have to tell windows specifically to allow apps to use mics now.

My question is do you do your own winding? I have 3 15" subwoofer's that I burnt the coils on and I wanted to redo the voice coils on. I don't know shit but I have 3 paperweights and I figure why not.
That's a whole other monster. There much more efficient men and women making coils on very specific machines. They make a small profit and are of the highest quality. @@RobotUnderground yea the cone itself is the regular ol paper non pressed, then they throw a carbon cap over the whole thing. Not sure if that helps stiffen the cone more because they use these huge 6 inch caps. The super charged is just neo magnets on the pole and they charge like $150 extra for some glued on magnets lol. However, I did have a pair of super charged 10s I got used and I had to try the snake oil myself to know
Being a retail installer since the 90s. I wish I had kept motors from subs end up in the shop dumpster. Are kicker rep would stab holes in the sub into the dumpster.
Do you think you may be able to touch on adding dust caps and how it affects the performance of the driver? Such as inverted, large caps that cover the entire cone up the surround, etc. Does any of that make a difference? I feel like it could have an effect on the displacement, but you are the expert. No one ever talks about this.
I 3d print jigs to transfer bolt patterns. Got some transfer punches to get it started with the jig then drill by hand using a drill guide or with the press. Works well for me. I should sit down and make some out of metal at some point but this seems to work. Adapter plates would be nicer for some though. Getting tired of all the weird bolt patterns just got something thats like 128x6 or something just barely off from a standard pattern. They even have 3 holes for a standard pattern in the basket. All around strange sub 7" spider non standard coil. I think they were going for making an spl sub actually but then they wanted it to look a certain way so they did the coil leads to the tinsel leads under the cone in a way where theyd be stressed as the sub moves no matter what so they all burnt right there on every one I got. Coils fine though They happen to be selling drop in recones for them so I wonder if was planned. Gonna try to harvest these coils though and use some of the ribbed cones from walmart with them on a standard 4 spoke or maybe one of those beefed up 4 spoke frames people are using with the 9.25" and 8.5" landing. Itll be better than the 6.5" or 7" inch spider that was one these originally.
Hey Patrick, Just out of curiosity... I saw on another channel (Toids DIY) measurements for The Dayton "Signature Series" and it got me curious. Hes talking mainly about the surrounds geometry and all that blah blah blah, but after looking at the graph presented and the freq responses shown there, im wondering how many of these what i would call very incremental peaks and valleys are perceptible to the ear? Obviously, theyll mean something to actual driver performance...but how much of that actually matters during listening? Im sure it will matter more for mid/full range drivers, but ESPECIALLY on subwoofers I dont see how many of these frequency response graphs unless for actual bass/sub bass (especially at certain crossover freq) will matter. And of course in the car audio world where Bass is the general main focus. I see these "exotic cones", "purposeful" surrounds and "special" spider materials, and wonder how much of it is purely smoke and mirrors? Again, to a point i see certain things benefiting, but in general not sure how much? Hopefully ive explained the above correctly.... TL;DR Whats the point? Specs/responses that are completely a mess will of course matter, but what about barely there peaks and valleys?
They aren't in the mids. Maybe in the bass response but that kind of perception has MUCH more to do with, "attack". Like a big motor and lots of electricity, vs an SQ, dainty sub with small magnet and floppy soft parts.

I don't trust forms or blogs...can you give me the diameters, or steer me in the right direction for a voice coil on A skar ddx 15 dual 2? I don't think it uses the same coil as the SA classic, thanks for the response .
So if I had the woofer tester, and wanted to lower the Fs to have it play lower all I would need to do is add mass to the cone like this? This would work on any off the shelf woofer as well as long as I beef up the dust cap similar to what you did, correct?

Shape doesn't matter. Surround doesn't make a difference in sensitivity either... Yes, in spite of what Sundown says.
When adding mass to the woofer, is the only T/S parameter affected the Fs? Does it change the Qts or the Vas?

You can just use JB weld or some other epoxy it doesn't need to be high temperature or shock resistant the way that Devil's jizz is
How do you know what coil to use for a sub? If I have a sun without the coil how big does the gap have to be from the pole and outter plate
