Network Security is a huge field, you are just scratching the surface with Palo Alto Firewalls. I manage over 400 Palos in addition to other responsibilities such as Palo Alto Cortex XDR, Zscaler, Microsegmentation. I don't miss working on routers/switches/F5.
Hey what's good Lise!! Huge congrats 2 U on your workaversary!! Sounds like you crushing it! I'm happy that your happy with your position and I know you'll go sooo far! Thanx 4 sharing with us and I appreciate all that U do 4 us and keeping us inspired!! Peace & Blessings 2 U!🙏🏽
Watched your channel before I was net engineer. Been in few years now looking to go towards net sec. Mainly on firepower fw right now. Plan on still staying fresh with enarsi like content when I do.
Enjoyed watching this. I deal with configuring plenty of FWs but plenty more. As well as full site migration, but of the Comms on that one.. But far as FWs , my 3 is Palo, Versa, and Junipers. 💪🏽 To you.
Been an Net Engineer for almost 5 years now. I am ready to move on to something else lol. Outages that occur out of nowhere, and the fact that EVERY other department thinks that ALL issues are related to the Network team fixing it. If its pingable and its routed correctly, then it's mostly not a network engineer fix. SMH
I love this for you! Hey I wanted to just tell you…your audio and video has a slight delay between each other! I know you probably know but I thought I’d give you a heads up!
We use our PAs for all our teir I Networking infrasture. In my current position teir II and III stuff CAN be handled by another team but its usually just us unless its going to break something on the WAN side you maybe just have a much larger company thought.
Yea we don't really have a tiered structure here. It's a very large company so everything is split into managed teams that manage a specific part of the network
@christopherclayton7688 CISSP no since that's a high level cert. Comptia security and network certifications are good to have for any network security role. Vender specific certs are needed for my current role since I work with PAs
I would just lab it up with Cisco Packet Tracer. The CCNP probably won’t serve you too well without real world experience. You can possibly looked into CML I believe for some better lab experience. There are also NOC Analyst and Network Analyst roles out there too if you’re interested.
@FurdgeBJJ going for your CCNP without the experience is not really worth it in my opinion. It doesn't really help you. Especially without knowing what focus you want for your CCNP. Your CCNA is a golden ticket, and I fully stand by that. It can open so many doors for you. Look for roles in help desk, network admin, or sys admin roles and then move up from there to engineering roles. That would be my advice 🙂 Labs is key to improving but unless you get physical equipment for free or dirt cheap. You don't really need it. Packet tracer is free, and then you can spin up some VMs as well and run full on emulators like GNS3 as an example.
To further elaborate, I would actually sign up for CBT Nuggets and do as many of their CCNA labs (literally everything) and job-related CCNP labs (OSPF, EIGRP, spanning tree, etc) as I possibly can. I don’t like when people tell me to just “lab it up” because I’m not creative enough to just “think” of a lab. Unfortunately, I’m not sure where to direct you besides UA-cam and Udemy and just copy other people’s labs just to get the commands under your fingertips. I can share job-specific things you’ll need to absolutely know as a NetEng if you’re interested. For credibility, I’m a NetEng. 2.5 years of experience. $125k. CCNA and CCNP.
@@edwardv4546 Im interested that would be great, thank you!. I got tired of labs after taking the CCNA. I just got 2 Cisco routers and switch, I want to configure but I’m not sure what to do with them yet. Yeah I’m not the best at coming up with my own lab, I’m not that creative as well
@@certifiedcurls Your audio is a bit behind for the video (very slightly, a few milliseconds). You will say something but your mouth moves after. I hope this makes sense lol. Just wanted to chime in here because I noticed too. Love your videos!!
Found you when I was studying for my CCNA. I passed in October and got a Network Admin role at a university! You opened my eyes to Network Security and I plan on getting my PCNSE and learning Python this year. I LOVEEEE your content! It’s hard to find ✋🏾 “Us” in the field and you are truly an inspiration. I’ve learned so much from watching your videos 💚
I passed my CCNA back in March, and applied over 100 companies from network engineer, NOC, SOC, Network Security Engineer and so on and no job offer. ghost emails, very few interviews. Losing hope here.
@ don’t give up! I used Chat GPT to optimize my resume. Are you near a major city? I’m in DC. Idk if that played a part? I literally only have help desk experience and have been exaggerating my experience in interviews. PM Networking on YT has amazing troubleshooting labs that helped me “speak from experience” in interviews.

It doesn't even feel like a year has passed😅
Do you all have any openings? What is the name of the company so that I can apply?

✊🏿 Taking the CCNA exam next week. My goal is to configure Routers and Switches from home and send them back, just like you used to do.
