    I could not believe how amazing Vagrant Story looked the first time I played it.

      I can imagine. The game looks great considering the limitations they had then. Very impressive!

    Cannot stress enough how mindblowing the 360 degree shot in the Xrd trailer was and to some extent still is.. I'm not even a hardcore GG fan, but that's still one of the best fighting game reveals of all time in my book. What a statement to make.

      that part is so cool!! and it’s trippy because although its in 3D the shading is done in that way so you wouldn’t even guess that’s the case.

    Really good stuff. I love how there were people out there willing to defy trends and work outside the box to make their games stand out and stand the test of time.
    Guilty Gear Xrd wasn't ArcSys's first time using UE3 for the series. GG2: Overture, for all the weird architecture and costume designs, is that awkward puperty phase in the transition between 2D to 3D. The fact that their next installment would blow everything out of the water is amazing.

      thanks! oh, I didn’t know that; makes sense, actually. seems like they had more time to work with the engine and then Xrd gave the devs their time to shine.

    Current Era Lara Croft looks good, but I prefer Classic Lara Croft. I love the design of Classic Lara, from her proficiency with her dual pistols to her lovely short shorts and LEGS, and everything else about her is magnificent.

      Same. I like both, but classic Lara is my favourite. She definitely has legs, though I dislike that they focused on Lara being scantily clad and just T&A in later games thanks to Eidos’ marketing. Typical of 90s gaming at the time. Fortunately, the ‘06 remake fixed that.

      No doubt her stronger independant personality that matches her design!

    I was wondering about how vagrant story achieved rim lights in ps1. Never thought they would made a second model.

      I thought the same thing. The devs definitely had a lot of tricks up their sleeves.

      @@Shinesart Same for the depth of field effect. Freaking DoF on a PS1! 😍

    How does Metal Gear Solid 1 look like a movie? Was it the blurr effects? What do you think?

    • @fragmentedpixels
      @fragmentedpixels  5 місяців тому

      I’ve never played Metal Gear Solid, so I couldn’t tell you in detail.
      But based on what I’ve seen I think it’s the Hollywood-inspired soundtrack and the presentation of the FMVs and environments in the game? I don’t think it was done that way at the time, especially in that genre. But maybe someone who has can fill me in.

    All this mess only because people can't draw anymore.

    • @fragmentedpixels
      @fragmentedpixels  5 місяців тому

      Disagree. In most cases it’s cost-effective and you can do more in 3D than 2D. It’s just a different way of working, really.
      But I get it, though, if you’re referring to drawing by hand. That feel can’t be replaced.

    I like that Guiltygear stuck to their 2d artstyle because I personally loved the look of KOF in the pixel artstyle but 3d was trendier 😥

    • @fragmentedpixels
      @fragmentedpixels  5 місяців тому +2

      I think KOF 14’s 3D would’ve looked cool if the game’s lighting and face models didn’t look so… odd? I think they could’ve tried cel-shading as KOF 15’s look feels kind of… homogeneous? IDK. I think it’s because all of SNK’s current fighting games have that style.

      @@fragmentedpixels Seems like they finally nailing a style with Garou/Fatal Fury: City of the wolves. Tho I can see why KOF struggle for a while. They were a lot more detailed compare to the typical anime/japanese fighter, and since they are master of pixel arts, they probably didn't got the time to properly adapt their signature artstyle into 3D over the years.

      @@Deliveredmean42hm, that could be why, actually. That and the company were in financial downturn at the time, I think? So that factor also affected the lengthy transition from 2D to 3D from what I remember.
