I've been playing Examina for awhile and the skeleton at 6:40 was a major hurtle that bashed my sanity and character to death so many times that seeing it in stuck in it's own graveyard was emotionally healing.
What i love is how this game realistically demonstrates what a real life fight would look like between a zombie and any random gamer removed from his keyboard and physically dropped into a dungeon.
Yea those physic is very good almost real life like, and i dont think the game hilarious, pretty sure we would move worse than that in real life situation

Nice vid, always thankful for anyone providing visibility to Exanima :) Because it's a fun and hardcore game... When you begin. But with practice, it's the very best medieval combat simulation game around, controls are original but surprisingly responsive and accurate, so you start playing like a drunken peasant unable to swing a stick, and end up capable of blocking and parrying, hitting (somewhat) precisely on weak spots, feeling like a true holy knight choping zombies in pieces by the dozen. It's the very best medieval combat simulation game PLUS has a complex, rewarding learning curve. 100% recommend, amazing game, already well worth the price in its current state, no need to wait for 1.0.
I've been playing (and waiting for futher development of) Exanima for nearly a decade now. It continues with every update to keep paying off. The movement and combat are just unlike any other game; while it initially seems discouragingly clunky and awkward, the room for skill expression is incredible. Where a new player moves like someone's drunk step-dad, experienced players can tear up combat like it's a ballet.
Once I understood how it works, playing the arena mode for a couple hours, I haven't found a combat system yet that makes landing a savage blow so satisfying. Each encounter feels like a unique experience. I used to look like a drunk, but now I dance around enemies like a murder machine.
The most concise bit of advice I can give to a new player is this: hit the WASD keys far less often than you think you need to. That drunken walk stuff in this video comes from rapid jittery spamming WASD without having a specific plan for each key press.
I picked this game up yesterday, because i saw a few videos and thought it looked interesting. I started the game up, made my first character, and immediately started the story mode. I was caught off guard when i saw there was no tutorial, but i already some idea of the kind of experience i was in for, so i was willing to read the manual. I spent at least 10 minutes stumbling around the starting room, frailing around my torch. Once i felt a little less like a stumbling drunk, i finally ventured out into the darkness. Now I'm not kinda guy that likes dark spooky games, so the thick blackness of the halls and the echoes of my boots on the cobblestone had me immediately on edge. But eventually i run across my first npc, a simple zombie? with a hachet. And thankfully, it moved like a drunk. A worthy adversary. The fight proceeded just about as pathetically as expect, two frailing bums stunbling over decrepit crates and loose rocks. I tripped over a busted stoll during the slap fight and bashed my head into a table, briefly stunning me. My opponent was quick to capitalize, striked me down for good. After that failure, i decided to practice in the arena mode, but soon got frustrated with controls in the heat of combat. I uninstalled the game and got a refund, but the game still had my curiosity. Earlier today, the algorithm graced me with your video and you have shown me just how far deep this rabbit hole goes. Thank you for convincing me to give this game another chance.
you made the right call. The game is worth it, 100%. The story mode is fantastic down the line, there is lots of enemy variety and if you pay attention to the books/scrolls and the story in general, it's also very captivating and pays off nicely in the last level they added.

Few additions: - There are levels with no maps available. - The last checkpoint is right after entering level 4. Presently, there are 8 full and 3 half levels. So, death after the last checkpoint is extremely punishing. - Falling into a bottomless pit or chasm is instant death and some of the latest levels are full of them. - The early maps are filled with zombies, by far the weakest enemies in the game. Although playing through the first levels is still extremely tense due to the poor armor and weaponry available for the player. - Only the blue magic (force) was the recent addition, the yellow magic (mind) has been part of it for a couple of years. - If you want to cheese through most part, rush the Command Dead mind spell. It won't be a fix-all, but helps a lot. Although summons tend to start fighting each other and Derrin.
Less than a moment in, this has me rolling 😂 what an unusual yet wonderful combination in a game though - both extreme precision and yet none at all, at the same time 😂 Great video!

Love this game! Haven't checked back in on it for awhile, but I've spent about 75 hours with it, mostly in the arena mode. So weird to get the hang of, pretty much have to relearn it whenever I come back, but it's SO satisfying to land a really solid hit to the head. Never gets old.

Just discovered this game 4 days ago, already started making videos to show how funny it is. I am now able to do a left swing on purpose and not accident ! I'm training to do grapples because I can only do that by accident for now !
This video got me into exanima. So far, I have 8 hours in it and I am GODLY. I'm just below half health because I messed up and got clobbered by a sledgehammer, but I got 2 health potions, the exit to the 3rd floor mapped out, and exploring the rest of floor 2 before I'm satisfied enough to continue. I think I'll drink one of my potions when I venture to floor 3. So damn fun. That said, I can totally envision myself getting humbled by something stupid and throwing my laptop at a wall, we'll see if I'm genuinely good at the game or if I'm just good at bullying the weakly-armored, slow-moving zombies. I'm confident though since I blasted through practice arena mode. Only one that managed to kill me was the very last guy in pitch black armor in the Expert mode. My mace dealt, like, one pip of crush damage and 2.5 pips of impact. I lasted, like, 10 minutes before he put me down. Had a rematch, stole some dude's lucerne, and whomped him. He still put me down half health even with my newfound glory, though.
The funny part is, even after honing my combat skills in the arena, the obstacles in the dungeon become the real challenge. I think I know what I'm doing because i beat the black knight on open ground, and then in the dungeon, my actual character can't really block yet and keeps falling over chairs all the time. Best game I've played in years!
When I first tried this game, the experience bounced me right off. I loved the exploration and oppressive horror atmosphere of the campaign, but the combat seemed impossible. I gave it another try on a whim a year or so later though and now it's one of my favorite lesser-known steam games. I've played the campaign several times and got really stuck into the arena. I would recommend any new player who finds the campaign too difficult go and try the arena to get a better feel for the combat.
oddly enough as someone who's practiced HEMA and other armed and unarmed martial arts, the body mechanics are surprisingly authentic, and a lot of fundamentals apply to combat.
I've been playing this game for over 100 hrs, and even though I don't have much martial arts experience I can confirm your feeling: This game is fully physics-simulated with extreme care when it comes to swordfighting, stance and footwork. This game wins the "Medieval combat simulator" award by a huge margin, thanks to both excellent (but original) controls, and the weapon physics is such high quality that after some time, I can feel them as if I was swinging myself, it's pretty amazing. The controls are tough though, first few 10 hrs you'll be falling as if under the influence of half a dozen drugs, but that's where the game shines with its progression curve, since the regular player must both master the controls but also basics of martial fighting (spacing, footwork, riposte, attacking at the right time) I could go on for a full essay, but the game is barely 20€ just go for it!
Indeed...it takes Mount & Blade and Kingdom Come Deliverance style combat...and throws in a ton of player skill to get gud...add in the environmental ambience and I really enjoy it...
Laughed out loud. Thanks for this. Love your content. Small point of feedback: from about 80 percent, the video feels a bit rushed and had me checking if this wasn't a sponsored video.
I've seen a few people cover this game recently. I followed it years ago when it was basically just a tech demo, I don't think it even had a name at the time. But somewhere over the years I deleted the bookmark and forgot about it. I'm glad to see it finally in a game form! I had to clean my monitor after the ladder scene...
Its a great game, i love the lore and the combat mechanics can be very rewarding if youre willing to get extremely frustrated in the beginning. Very unfortunate that its taking forver to officially release but i understand
I opened this video a week ago to watch it and left it up unplayed in a browser till just now. I'm glad I finally watched. I started crying three and a half minutes in.
If you buy this game then please keep in mind that the people working on this game also work an actual job. This game has been in development for at least 10 years now and updates are slow. To the point that you might think it is abandoned if youre not following the official game forum. But it is in fact not abandoned. Recently they did their first story update in a long while. Before that they focused on the arena mode, allowing them to make lots of assets for gear and work on the combat.
Maybe they should get more help then. The sheer novelty of the game itself should be enough to get at least a few decent individuals to contribute in their free time, but I imagine they don't want to share the revenue.
@@Omniverse0 I'm not sure why they haven't got more help. But what I do know is that exanima is also basically a tech demo. They're actually developing something bigger. And recently they posted a new video mainly focusing on terrain works in said game. Exanima basically is a test for the engine and for their ideas. Like how combat got improved overall due to player feedback from the people who bought exanima. And tho exanima is basically a tech demo, it also sets out to be an actual game when finished, likely to make some money to focus more on their main project
@@112523 because Madoc is a fucking crazy scientist guy that decided to build his own game engine. I think if he'll hire a new developer, it will take a lot of time to teach him, and it's really hard to find someone who will work for free, so take this into account too. But actually he got another guy into the team not too long ago, like a year or two, I think it's a friend of his or something like that, so the development is already faster than usually. I think he just don't want to risk inviting someone he doesn't know well to the team
@@sadge0 oh im fully aware and I don't mind the wait at all. I can see they got something very special cooking over there and I'd prefer it for them to take their time And thanks for the clarification about the amount of people working on it. That's actually one thing I didn't know exactly
@@112523 well, there's not only Madoc and this other guy (sry I don't know his name or nickname), there are few 3d artists that make textures, weapon models and armor, the most famous in Exanima community is Zetheros (he made most of the armor models in this game, very talented guy), and also don't forget about level designers, writer that makes lore and sound artist (who make sounds and music, not sure if there's one or two)

ah man, you've missed so much... I can't describe the feeling when you get new content and lore after playing for, let's say, 300 hours. Like, the game never gets old even tho it's almost all the same every time you play. It's some dark magic developers are doing there XD
the game is like less than 15€ on steam, if your budget cannot afford it you can always sail the high seas to get a feel for yourself and then buy it if you like it !
I've been watching random people find this game for the better part of a decade now. Still haven't ever played it myself. It always looked interesting and videos of people playing it can be rather amusing given how the game plays. Maybe one of these days when I have less than 200 things on my wishlist and my backlog of games is in the twin digits, maybe then I'll grab it. Though those two things happening before the heat death of the universe is highly unlikely.

As a carpenter/contractor I can attest to the truly devious evils of ladders. They can sneak up on you and cause all kinds of mayhem and destruction.

So many RPGs have conditioned us to be wary of potentially deadly mimics in the form of treasure chests, turning away our attention from the absolute terror that is the common ladder.
Especially when you factor the sheer amount of ladders that fall into the road every year

I would recommend any new player who finds the campaign too difficult go and try the arena to get a better feel for the combat.
You made me cry from laughing when your head got stuck in the ladder! Love your videos!
Bro I just came across your channel..watching you swing at boxes then get stuck in a fuckin ladder hahaha. 😂😂 I'm fuckin crying! That shit was funny
Can't get over how much I love this channel and re watching things 😂😂😂
oddly enough as someone who's practiced HEMA and other armed and unarmed martial arts, the body mechanics are surprisingly authentic, and a lot of fundamentals apply to combat.
The controls are tough though, first few 10 hrs you'll be falling as if under the influence of half a dozen drugs, but that's where the game shines with its progression curve, since the regular player must both master the controls but also basics of martial fighting (spacing, footwork, riposte, attacking at the right time)
I could go on for a full essay, but the game is barely 20€ just go for it!
quick question: are weaponized-ladders as effective as depicted in-game?
Getting gud takes a bit, but you can essentially become a Drunken Master, and damn does it feel good. I cant think of a more satisfying combat game.
Indeed...it takes Mount & Blade and Kingdom Come Deliverance style combat...and throws in a ton of player skill to get gud...add in the environmental ambience and I really enjoy it...
I couldn't even imagine having a go at this game without the narration being done by MitchManix
Damn! I’ve been playing this game for years. I was laughing to tears on this vid. Love Exanima! New subscriber!
Laughed out loud. Thanks for this. Love your content.
Small point of feedback: from about 80 percent, the video feels a bit rushed and had me checking if this wasn't a sponsored video.
That poor undead dude and the coffin xD
I've seen a few people cover this game recently. I followed it years ago when it was basically just a tech demo, I don't think it even had a name at the time. But somewhere over the years I deleted the bookmark and forgot about it. I'm glad to see it finally in a game form!
I had to clean my monitor after the ladder scene...
So my coworker showed me this video because he said the character looks like me. Can confirm now if I had a bowl cut I would 100% look like this
Its a great game, i love the lore and the combat mechanics can be very rewarding if youre willing to get extremely frustrated in the beginning. Very unfortunate that its taking forver to officially release but i understand
oh the poor skeleton how got stuck on the coffin :D
I laughed at the ladder part so hard lol
When I first saw Tomato stream this game, I almost choked to death laughing.
Thank you for the best laugh I've had in weeks!
This is how I imagine an isekai game nerd, getting reborn into some diabloesque dark souls game
I opened this video a week ago to watch it and left it up unplayed in a browser till just now. I'm glad I finally watched. I started crying three and a half minutes in.
the ladder really killed me ROFL!!!
Chaos is a ladder... and Greg is never going to climb it...
That ladder incident was amazing. Similar to when cat meets blinds, or dog meets chair.
Proud to say this is one of only a few games I have purchased on steam
This might be your best video yet
That looks extremely frustrating to play, but also HILARIOUS!!!
I want it!
I can see they got something very special cooking over there and I'd prefer it for them to take their time
And thanks for the clarification about the amount of people working on it. That's actually one thing I didn't know exactly
@@112523 well, there's not only Madoc and this other guy (sry I don't know his name or nickname), there are few 3d artists that make textures, weapon models and armor, the most famous in Exanima community is Zetheros (he made most of the armor models in this game, very talented guy), and also don't forget about level designers, writer that makes lore and sound artist (who make sounds and music, not sure if there's one or two)
This is the funniest thing I have seen in ages. I have literally laughed until I couldn’t breathe. Liked and subbed. Nice work dude.
This looks super fun. Cant believe I’ve never seen this game before.
I'm so excited that you're covering this game! It's really hard but once you learn how the fighting goes it's pretty addicting
Very well put together, very good :)
I revisited this video purely for the ladder moment 😁
this game improved a lot the last few years, is super cool
I love your content! It's my favorite and you deserve so much more than you currently have on here. You are the man and absolutely hilarious with the best storytelling and impressions! Keep it up! There's no way you don't succeed with your dreams doing this or I have no faith in humanity! Great work as always! Thank you for bringing joy and laughter to my entertainment!
Couldn't have said it any better😊, so true
Really appreciate that. Thank you.
Late to this party but MAN, glad I found it! The ladder bit had me in tears XD! Thank you.
As a licensed 'Greg', with both a sledgehammer & sippy cup with whiskey... I abide.
The player tripping and falling on their face and then the person chasing them tripping on them is like something out of Laurel and Hardy lol!
So close to 100k!! Big up
1st time watching one of your vids - absolutely ace narration.
Cheers mate 🙂
This was great thank you.
I fell in love with this game when I played through it in 2021. Time to go through it again!
loving this smooth physics animations, how is this not a basis for all the new ARPGS?
You've convinced me to revisit Exanima. My brother gifted this to me when it was new, and I gave it only an hour or so of a chance.
So you stopped playing?
ah man, you've missed so much... I can't describe the feeling when you get new content and lore after playing for, let's say, 300 hours. Like, the game never gets old even tho it's almost all the same every time you play. It's some dark magic developers are doing there XD
That part where you tried to sneak past an enemy and got stuck on the cart and said “take me to whiterun.” sent me! 🤣☠️😂 6:20
Man, this game is on my Steam wishlist for a loooooooooong time, I'm glad to see how it turned out! I might get it now
This shit had me crying. Your commentary paired with the goofy game physics was too much. 😂😂
wow, such physics! I have acquired this on Steam, shocked that it was made in 2015
Always a pleasute to see a upload from you!
This sounds amazing! I need to try this!
the game is like less than 15€ on steam, if your budget cannot afford it you can always sail the high seas to get a feel for yourself and then buy it if you like it !
