Ahhh, my fave Jin. I’m glad I could cover him in such detail!! Here’s some things that I want to pin:
- I didn’t cover Jin’s line to Hei as I recorded this before his release.
10:51 - Minor mistake; it’s meant to say ‘she’s a JUNIOR to Jin’! 😭
14:29, 14:40 - He says these lines in story mode. These can also be heard when Jin absorbs an attack using ‘Fiendish Claw’ (Zen+2).
15:08 - This is also heard in story mode. Interesting, since that line was unused but in the closed beta test audio files from last year. 🤔
-(In Heat) When Jin does his Awakened Power Stance (d/b+1+2) with Omen Stance (db+2) into 1 on a successful parry or block, he’ll say ‘Die!’ (was unaware of this, thanks miaouw98!).
I love when Jim Kazama says "koi"
same 😌
Jin telling me what his favorite fish is
@@redline841 Jin saying that he loves. But I'm not gay, sorry.
Me and my sister quote this all the time lol
Back in 2006, Jin was kinda typical among the many angsty characters in anime and games (especially Sasuke in Naruto and Riku in Kingdom Hearts). But in 2024, after so many AAA games attempt to be profound and prestige, quippy and Whedonesque, or half-assed attempts at having both, Jin Kazama is a breath of fresh air, to the point that I believe Isshin Chiba deserves a nomination for Best Performance at Geoff Keighley's annual The Game Advertisements- I mean The Game Awards, especially since there's not that many AAA games this year had much in the way vocal performance. Who else is gonna get it? Troy Baker impersonating Harrison Ford in Bethesda's Indiana Jones game?
Seriously, Chiba's role as Jin has been dynamic over 25 years, from battle grunts in 3, to young and breathy (and having awkward attempts at speaking English) in 4, to sound condescending in 6, somehow still sounding young in Bloodline, to his deeper gruffness, calm demeanor, and lots of yelling in 8. All perfect.
The only one I never heard was his dub over John Foo's performance as Jin in the live action Tekken movie, which was creepy and weird.
looool it should be called The Game Advertisements with the amount of them they stuff in that show! 🤭
I agree, and I think Jin is such an interesting character vocally. The way Chiba taps into all facets of Jin’s questionable, calm or even angsty personality is the icing on the cake (deserves all the awards!). It’s intriguing.
It seems in 8 he (or the vocal directors) decided on a lower, guttural voice and I was so shocked. But then again, he’s been through hell (T3-T5), caused hell (T6) and is struggling in hell (T7-T8)… so it makes sense. Either he’s uttering hushed words… or screaming into the abyss. Melodramatic, sure-but I love it!!
LOOOL not the Tekken film-I actually did hear the JP dub and I was surprised he’s in it. It’s not too bad from what I remember; I didn’t watch the whole thing! 🤣
Tekken 8 Jin Kazama is my Favorite version.
Same
can't wait for Reina/Heihachi translations, excellent work!
thanks!! once all the voice lines and Japanese text appear for Hei, I’ll cover him
@@fragmentedpixels I like how Hei and Lee says something the the land a heat engager move and and then run so i sub to u to wait that Hei vid
From Tekken 4 to 7 his voice remained the same but in Tekken 8 his voice has a drastic change
definitely. the fact they used those Tekken 4 clips for that long (until Tekken 8) goes to show that the sound recording team at Namco then did an excellent job!
We barley hear him
It's because he believes in himself now✊️
Chesto certified 15:50
hahaha 😆
Jin is like the classic emo boy protag.
No wonder Xiaoyu wants some
14:23 Jin says "Amai na" I believe when absorbing an attacking and successfully engaging heat using F2 out of Zanshin stance.
thanks!! I knew this was heard and used somewhere.
@@fragmentedpixels No problem!
He also replaces it with "Nameru na" I think. Kazuya also says "nameru na" when absorbing a hit during his F2.
Would love to see Yoshimitsu next. His subtitles are wrong on purpose, lmao.
I second this
Cant wait for the dragunov video
俺たちはこの世に存在するべきではない。
愚かだな、風間仁。
two of my favourite lines 😌
Jin and hwoarang dialouge always confused me. The way jin talked to hwoarang is like he's more annoyed than serious. I have a japanese mother and she taught me japanese at a young and the way jin acts towards hwoarang is like a friend and a enemy at the same time.
heh, it can be confusing at times!
they’re the true frenemies of Tekken. 🤭
Tsundere + rivalry 😂
Jin and hwoarang are the friend/rivals of the tekken series I think the writers don't portray it the best way.
I've been waiting for this thank you!
you’re welcome!! glad I was able to cover him. 😌
The wait is finally over! Great stuff, can't wait for the old man! 😎 👊
thanks! and ty for helping out with Jin’s quote to Reina!! 😊
hopefully I can cover Hei soon, I need all the voice lines and Japanese text first.
I love when Jin said "Watashi wa Jim Tekken" and Dragunov responded with "Твой отец - вор, твой дед - вор, а твою мать активно обсуждают в местной таверне" and then they fought
Lmao, Drag knows he's the best character 😂
Started learning Japanese last month and this is only helping me stay motivated. Hope this inspires you too
thanks!! I’m considering learning, but I definitely need to work on having the discipline to learn it.
Love these language/translation research videos you do, they're great even if I'm not really interested in japanese, but it's really fun to understand learn what the characters say, since the deliveries are always on point imo, particularly Kazuya lol.
Only thing I will say is that some of the clips you use for the in-game scenes have the game music blasting and you can't really hear much, I'm sure you do your best to get the raw or without music audio, but that's my only complaint. Keep up the good work!
Thanks!! I do try to replay or I’ll dub the vocal over the voice line where necessary. Sometimes it can sound awkward without the SFX, so I also consider that, heheh.
I think that "Forgive me" is a better localisation than "I'm sorry" and it fits him more, ESPECIALLY in Tekken 8.
My therapist once told me that saying "I'm sorry" is unintentionally selfish and "Forgive me" is a better way to apologise (at least in Polish) cause you're giving a person a space to choose if they want to forgive you. It might not make sense in English but as a Polish person it's a personal gem for me.
that’s interesting! I can see how that would sound selfish-never thought of that. There’s a lot of cultural differences in other languages on how apologies are seen, but that’s new to me. I find it funny he only says this to his mother and Xiaoyu in-game, though. 😅
AAAAAA YES!! Jin has been my fav since Tekken 5! This was really fun and interesting to watch, thank you!! ^^
you’re welcome!! 😊
These videos are great! With my limited Japanese I could only discern some of them, and this helps a lot. Looking forward to the Heihachi translations.
Thanks!!
I could pick up some lines as well; I’m genuinely considering learning the language a bit more. 😅
Such an amazing series! I just binged all of them and can't wait for more honestly
thanks! same, can’t wait to breakdown some more characters. 😊
9:20
"I won't stray away again"
This might be the one you're looking for.
I love this, and your kazuya video! The breakdowns, context, and character analysis are sooo good, and show a serious understanding of the material. Keep it up!!
ty!! glad you enjoyed! 🙂
I try to cover the nuances and context of things the best that I can-that can get lost sometimes
I couldn't wait for this video ever since you announced it! Jin is my favourite male character in the franchise *khm-khm 😈* so naturally I clicked as soon as I saw it on the feed. Isshin Chiba has done a magnificent job voicing Jin for twenty seven years, that's almost as long as I've been alive! And I was shocked to hear what Isshin really sounds like while he speaks as himself - whoa, what a difference! Jin's voice is... sexy to say the least. 🥵
What he does with Jin and Devil Jin simultaneously when it comes to the nuances of his voice is impressive to say the least!
By the way, you probably noticed that sometimes he says "chesuto" really fast as he punches opponents - the first time I heard that I thought that he was saying "shih-tzu", which is funny because I actually own a shih-tzu! 😂😂😂
As for the phrase - Katte ni senpai atsukai suruna. - we love a man who can set boundaries!
Yeah, his voice is so… [redacted] 😩
Loool But in all seriousness, I agree-it’s also one of the reasons he’s my fav character. Isshin Chiba’s dedication and interest in the character is so cool to see! Imagine being a fan of something… only to play a main role in the work you’ve been a fan of! Love that for him, tbh.
Loool it does sound like he’s saying ‘shih-tzu’! I wonder if Jin would be a dog person. 🤭
@@fragmentedpixels I kind of think he would be! I’m sure his mother Jun taught him to be gentle and respect all forms of life and that he is also anything but cruel to animals. I personally see him with a big, black dog such as a doberman, rottweiler or cane corso. And I totally see him as someone who would surely listen to rock and metal music, now that we’re imagining things!
Yes, Isshin is not only insanely talented for what he’s doing with Jin, you can obviously see how much he cares about the character and how many layers and emotions he puts into the role. I don’t know many voice actors, but he’s one of my favourites for this role alone! ♥️
I Will Not Forsaken My Allies!!!
I like when he says DAH!
Man, I miss that in T8.
I always learn so much from your stuff! Fantastic work as always!
thanks!! I really locked in on this one. 😊
10:50 *nyacchan purrs*
been waiting for this. Very insighful video. Jin is my main since tekken5 i have been wondering what he is actually saying , This video explains everything.
thanks! I’ve been wondering as well.
@@fragmentedpixels 👍
Great work, hyped for the paul phoenix video
Someone need to make a mod replacing all ingame subtitle with these translations
that’d be cool.
Awesome!!! Thanks for the vid❤
you’re welcome! 😌
Jin main here. 甘いな and 舐めるな are quotes used when he absorbs an attack using Fiendish Claw (Zanshin/Zenshin 2).
He still calls 行くぞwhen he lands the power crush engage.
ohhh ok. thanks for letting me know!
i was actually thinking about when you were gonna drop this earlier today lol
heh, the wait is over 😌
Thank you for the knowledge. Personally I like the choice to say I shall not waver again. As before from a plot aspect they always made it seem like jin can be just as good or evil as he wants as long as he hates his father. He also has expressed conflict on HOW to resolve the Mishima lineage, from attempting peace to complete annihilation. So I like he's kinda saying like "I've made up my mind"and not wavering between playing hero and villain.
no problem!
that’s a good point and interpretation, actually. I never thought of it that way! my thought is he had his fall from grace, got lost in his stubborn ways and mentally, even spiritually, lost himself in the process (as out of character as it may have been)… and now he’s reassuring himself that he won’t lose his way again. but, that’s my philosophical mind talking! 😅
Tekken 3's voice had his youth, energy and ferocity
4-7 had his powerful brooding, guarded anger and boiling self-hatred he was trying to contain
8 has a struggling, exhausted and pained but somewhat hopeful Jin trying to make the most of whatever he has left to undo what has become
That’s how I interpret it as well!
Can’t wait for Heihachi, I have no clue what he’s saying half the time but I love it 😂
I love your translation videos, keep up the good work 😊❤
Thank you, I definitely will! 😊
I remembered hearing the "amai na" when jin absorbed an attack during his zen 2 powercrush. Not sure though. Btw thanks for the mention! I didn't do that much though lol
oh, got it!
np! regardless if it was a small input you were very helpful. l almost could’ve made a silly mistake with the Romaji on Jin’s quote to Reina! 🤭
I was waiting for this!!!!
yay! I had to cover my fave.
@@fragmentedpixels I study Kyokushin Karate because of Jin. He's been a big part of my childhood
@@RyokuTK oh, nice! I’ve always found his fighting style interesting.
Jin Kazama
my faveee 😌
14:15 If I'm not mistaken, he said it when he got up again to fight Kazuya in story mode (before Kazuya was in rage mode)
His lines are fitting and decent in this game but something that bothers me a litle is how his fighting shouts feel more inmature, like he hasnt mastered his techniques and powers, like a younger and more unexperienced jin whereas the old jin voices from older tekken games were so blunt, calm, decisive and serious
As an example his old "dah" showed his mastery over the technique, very short and deep shout that came from the diaphragm and the new "deh" sounds as if hes struggling to execute the technique, doesnt sound as serious
Its almost as if t8 jins voices would have fit much better to earlier and younger jin who is figuring out the new karate style than the new and developed serious jin, and that the old and blunt voices would have fit tekken 8 jin better than the older jins that were more inexperienced with the new karate style + devil gene
hm, I see what you mean. If anything, he sounds like his Tekken 3 iteration in an interesting way. I don’t see it as inexperience, though, but as… he’s more animated. But, not as, I guess, his very cocky and brash self that he was back then, “Ora”’s and all 🤭
I do miss his “DAH” and “TSIU” kiais from those games (T4-T7), but I think it’s a vocal direction thing that occurred here. I wish they could’ve brought those clips back in there (nitpick, I know), but sounds great, though!
He's finally loving himself, and it's new for him
Makeru ka is from the Final story Jin when he accepts kazama and Mishima on the 3rd phase of the story
ohhh, got it!
You're missing one of my favorites : when he's in heat and does his non-electric cd 1 or his awakened power stance with db 1+2 (omen stance) into 1 on a successful parry or block you can hear him scream "Die !"
ohhhh, I didn’t know that!! I haven’t played the game yet, so I had no idea on that. harsh!
As a Reina main, I’d love to see you do a translation breakdown
Great video. Keep up with the great work
Thanks! I’ll keep trying my best 😊
Great video as always, now do Feng Wei next!
Ayyy nice work! Always love to see more of these videos! Keep it up~~ 🙌🔥
thanks!! and ty for helping on the quote Jin says to Reina! 😊
@@fragmentedpixels dont mention it! I barely did anything :') but If u got more questions/community posts about future videos, I'd love to help where I can :D
The first time I heard the chesto from the Suigetsu Strike I misheard it as Shitzu (the dog breed) 🤣
Please do Lars next! His voice actor is amazing
New upload let's gooo

Good work. Hopefully Heihachi is next.
yep i fw this channel

I just had to cover him! 😌
@@fragmentedpixels I’m glad you did :D
It's Jin time

Yay, I’d love to see a vid of Lars.
interested to see yoshimitsu in that kind of video
14:18 and 14:19 are heard in the story mode.
ohhh, got it! that makes sense.
What is the other move he does? I know the one Story Mode with his typical hellsweep into u+1, but the other one, Amai na, don’t know.
@@LandinnSamurai OP said she hasn't played the story mode, answering it would be kinda a spoiler.
I would love to see translations for Yoshimitsu's dialogue if possible!
I would love to see a video like this about Hwoarang
it’s definitely on my list!!
cant wait for the lee video
Love your vids always wanted some translation on the mishimas lol.Dvj got new lines with heihachi would love if you could cover those to. Also does dvj not say something when he gets ko'd it sounds like he says something
Awesomeee
ty!!
You should definitely do Yoshimitsu!!!
I would love to hear Zato-1 translations
Pls translate what kiryu says on his taunts through the games! Like, yakuza kiwami 2, gaiden, infinite wealth and yakuza 3 would be cool
One of my mains is Jun Kazama, and there's a move that she does where it sounds like she's saying, "SECURITY!!" and my friends shout it out every time they get hit by it, lol.
I'm curious to know what she's actually saying.
She says that after she lands a heat engager (the running animation).
@@NateDdragon Yea. That and during one of her parries
Please do Asuka next!! This translation is so messy on her, especially when she points at herself.
The last voice line was used in Story mode i believe
ohhh, that makes a lot of sense.
Isshin Chiba is the goat.
truly!
Amazing video! Do you only do Japanese monologue translations?
Thanks! No, though I’ve a character I want to cover that doesn’t speak Japanese; it’s on my list. 😌
they removed Jin's line Yamasuruna from T4 means don't get in my way.
one of my fav lines 😌
he’s said that for 4 games, so I can understand why they’d omit some lines here; can get tedious!! he’s also not as angsty in his battle quotes for 8.
15:52 😂 lol
hehehe🤭
sick video
thanks!!
Jun/Hei next pls!
damn.. i thought "chesuto" meant hes really gunning for your chest
not at all! I’ve read that *apparently * in Kagoshima it’s used in that manner of getting someone pumped up before doing something-Jin’s also from there.
I didn’t cover that since I was very confused about the contextual origins and didn’t want to confuse people!
Do you know what Jin is saying during his human rage art? He does it when he uses a rage art in the final battle in chapter 15.
Yo pixels, are there plans to cover voice lines from story mode?
no, I don’t have the game yet 😭
Please do one for Yoshimitsu 🙏
Hello 'I'm Jin Kazama's mother
Do Lars please
Do Kuma next please
Next one: Heihachi Mishima
Can you do one of Reina?
he says heat haze shadow
btw new extra voicelines after new character revealed as Heihachi. I think your time of editing before heihachi revealed, i think its too late lol
I’m aware, and I did this wayyyy before his release.
In fact, I wouldn’t say I’m too late. I need to get all the Japanese text first and voice lines before I can do them!!
Cool, Heihachi next?
once I get all the Japanese text and voice lines, I’ll cover him!
@@fragmentedpixels you could also include exclusive quotes for him from jin/devil jin and kazuya since you had technically covered them
jin kasama!
Lars?
I don't agree with a lot of your "this is the better translation"s, some of them sound really awkward in fact. Translation is not about getting the perfect literal translation but conveying an idea across a text medium. "This is the power of Devil" sounds really awkward to me in fact. "This is the Devil's power" is ok but sounds boring like youre just stating a definition from a dictionary. "This is the power of the Devil himself" emphasizes the power aspect a lot more.
I see what you mean. Though, this video isn’t always saying ‘this is a lot better’. I try to get what the character is actually saying, maybe literally, vs what’s localised. These are my opinions and interpretations, but then again -sometimes the localisations in Tekken can be misleading. 😭
I don’t expect to be perfect translations, but more so, I think of it in this way: This is what’s being said, it could also mean this, here’s the context behind this word and then i just say ‘translation’ where they’re up to par with what’s said. I do add context where I can.
Omission does happen in languages, so my mission isn’t to say that ‘we need to get them as perfect as possible’-but more ‘here’s what’s being said’, and any possible contextual elements- my opinions aside lol.
I do it that way since Tekken’s ones are quite odd and they can be confusing.
Hopefully, I made sense here? 😅
Please do Heihachi!!
Do one for heihachi please.
heihachi next plz
New video for heihachi quotes plsssss
Are you going to do other Japanese-speaking characters or are you sticking to the Mishimas?
Yep, I’m going to cover the other Japanese chars. though I get a lot of suggestions for the Mishima members. I’ve some non-Mishima characters on my list.
i too come with seriousness

Damn, it took five minutes for me to find something to criticize this time. And I can't help but notice a distinct lack of individual grammar explanations this time, which is honestly for the better if you don't speak the language. I was kinda hoping to see the explanation about the rhetorical use of the particle か as I explained in the Kazuya video lol. Did you not want to get into the confusing business going on with the "行かせてもらう" or what?
For fun, what it is, 行く is in the causitive form 行かせる, which means someone is allowing or forcing an action, in this case "to go". And then the auxiliary verb もらう "to receive" is attached to the te-form of 行かせる, which indicates getting the listener to do something as a favour, or otherwise for speaker's benefit. This is a statement that literally means, "I'll receive the favour of you letting me fight with all my might." In these kinds of contexts, it has the intention of "I'm not asking for permission; I'm telling you what you're going to do for me."
Personally, I would have explained 本気で as an analogue for "for real", as in "Come at me for real", like "We're not just gonna 'spar'; we're actually gonna have ourselves a proper fight."
I'm genuinely disappointed that you let 力だけが全てじゃない go without an actual breakdown. The reason is that the grammar reflects very overtly Jin's change in perspective regarding power. Originally, it was 力こそ全てだ. This こそ is an intense emphasizer that doesn't have one easy English translation, but it effectively means "Power *IN AND OF ITSELF* is everything." Now, it is replaced with だけ, which still grammatically puts emphasis on 力 because it means "only", but it doesn't have that "in and of itself" emphasis of こそ. Literally, it means "(having) *only* power isn't everything", insinuating that other things in life are also of importance. The English translation, while natural, doesn't have the same connotations in context. If that line were meant to be that casual and weightless as a simple and obvious statement, it could have simply been 力*は*全てじゃない. I know I'm harping on this, but the point is that it *wasn't* meant to be casual, weightless, or simple. I'll give it to you if you think I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill because the sentiment isn't particularly obtuse.
Fun side note, even as far back as ten full years ago, there were Yahoo Chiebukuro (basically Japanese Yahoo Answers) threads about チェスト! in karate.
Kudos for keeping the English in the passive voice, as that's what's going on with 飲まれる.
Excellent interpretation of 勝手に先輩扱いするな.
This word salad is filled with tangents and tidbits, so it ain't as bad as it looks. It's really only one point against you, and not even for an outright mistake, but for an omission. Think of it like getting a test question wrong just because you straight up didn't answer. You didn't give a wrong answer, but still. But hey, looks like the input from other users really paid off!
heh, thanks! I was this nitpicky as well while editing-trust me lol.
I guess I did a good job, overall though?
I get what you mean, I did want to include some more context in this video, but was worried that I may misconstrue some meanings here and there as I’d done with the past videos. I had no idea about the deeper context of those lines, so thanks for that!
I genuinely was going to add context to the ‘ikuzo’ part, but must’ve forgotten to add it-though I did discuss it in the Kazuya video.
Again, I was gonna ask to help you proofread for a character but I never got a response. But, if you’d like to, just send me an email: fragmentedpixelsfp at gmail.com!
8 Jin did him so well I'm really hoping he pops up as dlc even if only sparing glimpses.
Heihachi in 8 is so depressing.
Also dislike his voice , though i guess i actually dislike his everything.
