I’ve started watching your videos. Awesome. Probably the best commentary I’ve seen. Am a weekly section hiker after a stroke hit me out of nowhere. Took me off the trail for the last 8 months. It is a compromise between wife and Dr. Bless you and your videos.

Great job “old man”. 28,28,32 amazing mileage. Accept no rides? I’ll be surprised if you ever take zero off trail. Extremely disciplined you are. Enjoy following you. Thanks for taking us along. God’s speed

Thanks for taking the time to post your videos. I'll enjoy following along. Also, it's nice to finally see a hiker getting an early start each morning. Boots on the trail a half hour before sunrise. That's the best time to hike!

I'm watching for the 2nd time. I have a 5/10 permit start this year so watching again to get 'the lay of the land' and more importantly your insights into the trail. I'm a little older (60) and did the AT in 2019 so I do have some experience. Looking to take about 135 days, so a little longer than you. Liked your campsite double-check you showed in this video. There is a guy (EarlyRiser_73 - I think it ends in 73) who is also ex-military. He did the AT and did a lot of good videos, and he is still very active in providing insights to new AT hikers. He talked about having an 'accountability rock" (or stump, or whatever). Something you put anything on that you did not immediately put in your pack. I did that, but I always double-checked the site anyway. Good luck if you're doing your sailing trip this year!

Blimey! That is some miles on your first day. I’m looking at doing the PCT next year (2022) so am watching with interest. My fear is snakes 🐍 so thanks for showing them on the trail. If you have any snake tips then please share (love the throwing a rock idea!) - Happy Hiking 🥾- Julia from the UK 🇬🇧

Great seeing you out there getting after it, sir! When you cancelled your trip, I thought "Quite right, as you and everyone else should." I hadn't thought much about it since, but am finally catching up to what you're doing. It makes a lot of sense, as you presented in your first video op this channel. I am on board.
Anyway, really looking forward to watching your journey, as I plan to follow in your footsteps in about 3 years, upon my retirement... Best of luck, and keep it up! Just a couple of other points - like the musical choice! I'll never forget going to see Gordon Lightfoot about 35 years ago up here in Vancouver. Also, you're publishing more videos than I thought you would - that's great, but don't let it get in the way of the *miles*! Finally, I'm curious - are you editing and uploading your own videos? Between almost 30 miles a day, and being in the desert, how do you do it??
Cheers, and all the best! - Kevin

Oh my! 32 miles? That's impressive for an "old man." Soldier on, take care and thanks for taking us along.

I wish you the best mate. We are about the same age. I could only manage 9 mile days from Campo to Warner Springs and it took us 11 days, pus 7 zero's back in early March before Covid took me off the trail. We had some really bad weather and snow storms. At the time I couldn't imagine anyone doing 20 mile days out there. It was hot when we were at Scissors Crossing and that was mid March. Wow and your doing 28 mile days. Blows me away.

Fantastic! I know you were very prepared with lots of pre-trail walking/hiking miles. I appreciate the rules you have set out for yourself; I think I would lean more towards those rules even outside our current climate so I am definitely looking forward to seeing how it goes for you. I posted on your first Trek vlog that I plan on this next year, watching and waiting to see what they do with permitting for 2021.

Heat, snakes, and some cool nights coming And it looks like you have the six moon umbrella- I'd be using it! Keep hydrated, smiling, and enjoy it all.

How many liters of water are you carrying in the Desert? I'm planning on 6 liters for about 13 lbs. ... its amazing how heavy it is on my back .. then theres about 10 lbs pack base weight .. then another 5 lbs for food ... suddenly my Ultra-light ideas have turned into about a 30 lbs pack !

6 liters is an enormous amount. Stretches without water are not that long with caches now. Best thing you can do to minimize water carrying is to be able to hike longer and a bit faster.

HYOH, just a little sad you might miss out on some of the magic on the trail, random acts of kindness (rides). Glad to see people out on the trail 2020, wish you the best! Your a monster getting the miles in already 😜.
