Thank you for the concern and for letting me know about the PCT closure. I received the email from the PCTA and am currently off trail. This video was posted 2 days ago before the official notice. I'll post an update as soon as I'm able to. Thank you for all of the support for these videos! It's been a very fun experience and I can't wait to get back on trail in the future!! In the meantime, please respect and be compassionate toward other thru-hikers working their way off trail. It's not a quick fix for a lot of folks who don't have resources to leave or places to turn to.
Lauren Roerick... So impressed and touched by your understanding and compassion for the other hikers trying to get off trail. When you could have been focusing on your own disappointment and sadness, you instead thought of the needs of others. You not only have the skills and spirit of a thru-hiker, but the kind heart of one as well. And it's not often that we get to see someone whose inner beauty like that is just as impressive as the outer beauty. Thank you for sharing your experience with us, for all the time it took to reply to so many comments, and for being such a bright light shining through a window that has grown rather dark in recent days. Come back when you can. We will be here.
Lauren... You mentioned being a bit lonely.... One of the great lessons the trail has taught me is that being alone is not always the same as being lonely. I've found that there can be much "company" in solitude... if we choose to fellowship with it. That's hard to learn sometimes as we are social beings, and most of us spend little time in solitude. It's not easy to adjust to, but when we give it a chance, we find that the silence provides rest and restoration so that we can experience what nature has for us. And the solitude gives an audience deep in our soul so that we can experience our spiritual connection. In time, I believe you'll find solitude to be like a good friend whom you must visit again and again. Maybe that's why Thoreau said: "I have never found a friend that was so companionable as solitude." We all need social contact and we all need solitude too. It's just that after experiencing the benefits of solitude, some of us find that we need it more.
Spokes.. Yes, agreed. The point wasn't to imply that she can't handle herself, but rather to simply extol the value of silence and solitude. Actually, she's quite impressive in adapting to the rigors of thru-hiking so quickly, and with such a positive attitude. From my view, she's the real deal.
Thank you so much for the wise words. You're absolutely right. A dear friend of mine passed away while I was hiking this section so I was really feeling the isolation. It was just a tough time to be alone, but gave me plenty of time to remember some great times spent with her.
What a rainy stretch wow. You deserve a zero for sure. That trail is so incredibly beautiful. I hope to hike that some day. You’re doing great. Keep on trekking. 🏃♀️
The overlook from the ridge leaving Pioneer Mail Picnic Area is so beautiful.👍 I like your attitude.(pouring rain) "I guess I'm just going to get soaked" 😀 ❤ ✌ 👣 Enjoy Julian... Outstanding Italian Restaurant there is ya crave pasta & pizza. You're doing great.... Blessings
So beautiful I feel like I am right there with you. Thank you so much for letting me hear your footsteps instead of music. Please do not add music. I am watching a lot of 2020 PCT vids and I love yours. Wishing I could be out there but had a surgery on my heel and still have the other to do just so I can walk and hike again. Thank you again for letting me into your trek.
I love your blog!! I just stumbled on it and will be following each and every day until you finish. Being a Southern California hiker, I feel I must apologize for the weather this March. You are experiencing THE worst month of rain I can ever recall - but you are still smiling! God Bless You for that. You are a stud and I look forward to seeing and watching all your videos. Keep up the great work, you are an inspiration! (and by the way, you have beautiful teeth - so keep smiling!!)
Thank you so much! And you are right, the weather has been insane haha! Sadly I'm off trail for the foreseeable future, as the PCTA has requested that hikers get off trail.
@@LaurenRoerick I figured this might be happening. I am saddened by this decision, but understand. I hope you will be allowed to return to the trail asap. (I have a permit to hike the John Muir Trail on July 13th and am hoping I will still be able to hike it by then.) I cannot imagine how disappointed you must be after all the planning, training, and preparing. I will be here to watch when you return to the trail. :(
Some of the plants match your hair:) Hope you enjoyed your apple pie and were able to stay under the snowline this week. Your tent is getting a workout for sure. Crazy March, be safe and have fun!
Found your channel while researching gear for what I hope to be my Thru of the PCT next year. Love your attitude and style. Following your adventure to the end. Good luck hike on.
You picked a good year to hike the pct cuz we got the late winter/spring storms. But hopefully it won’t be too icy on Mt San Jacinto for hikers. You have some amazing views though. I know you loved Julian. Great place for a zero. The Sonoran desert is super windy. Just be careful of flash floods with crazy rain in So Cal. Look forward to your further adventures
Hello Lauren, greetings from Northern California. I just came across your channel this evening and subscribed. You are doing a great job of filming. You captured some awesome panoramic views. All the best to you for your good health and safety on the trail. 🤗
Aloha Lauren, As I recover from my surgery with PCT maps next me I look forward to your Vlog. You are the epitome of the term, " Beauty and Brawn " My money is on you that your going to complete your trek hands down.. As you well know the camera really likes you and your laugh is very infectious..Happy Trails. Rich N Pismo
I love that part of California. I lived there a couple of years and spent my weekends exploring the area. Julian is a wonderful little community. I hope you enjoyed your stay. I will admit, I am a little homesick for the area. I appreciate you sharing your journey.
Loving your videos, and your filming style. I'm a couple of weeks behind you as long as the government doesn't cancel domestic flights. Thanks for giving me a preview. Good luck. PT
"Even though it's raining...there is water everywhere"!! And if you are on trail- no or little worries about social distancing...you will be for 600+ miles☺☺☺ great video
Hi Lauren. I am just now following your trek. The storm cloud scenery are just amazing. Did you get a trail name? At this point, I'm calling you thunder!
You're the first hiker I've watched on the PCT that seen rain in first week . It's usually desert ,desert and more desert 😆 . Could you speak a little louder when possible . I know you want to respect over around you but you seem to whisper when you're by yourself . Great quality videos and views I look forward to watching more of your journey . ps AT hikers are getting lots of rain too.
Thank you so much. Yep we had it all, rain, wind, snow! I try to speak softly when there are other hikers present, but yes I will work on it! Thank you for the feedback :)
@@LaurenRoerick thanks responding . You have a great attitude and positive outlook . I'd love to hike the PCT hopefully sooner than later . I live 4 hours away from the Smokey mts. . So I'd like to see the West Coast for a change of scenery . happy hiking and stay safe . your newest fan
@@LaurenRoerick I just seen latest video I'm sorry for all the hikers that had to leave the trail . Hopefully the world will regain its mind soon . Look forward to all the hikers hitting trail again.
Great video, wishing I was there, best wishes from UK. Ps gonna sound a right bore, is it safe to hike with two ear buds in, only ask as the biggest animal we have is a sheep lol
Thank you! I generally don't have them in unless it's somewhere I'm quite certain would be safe. Generally speaking I don't find I need to listen to anything as the landscape and nature sounds are entertainment enough :)

Actually you started at a good time, you may be a little wet, but you are not sweating like crazy, a month from now it will be much hotter, and water will start getting scarce except in the trail angle provided caches. Passing Mt. Laguna was most likely a good idea, you had the food so why stop. Just you and Mother Nature. The AT it is not, long stretches of you, until you meet up with and start a Tramily. SAFE HIKING
So far I love it. I know people have their opinions on it, but it's held up great and is super easy to set up. I'm just careful with it and make sure I put it in places where it won't get stabbed by branches or cactus
I had to cancel my AZT hike due to the pandemic. I know it’s painful to bail on something that you worked so hard for and sacrificed so much. She should get off the trail and wait til this clears. Small trail communities are especially vulnerable and will not have the resources. Sad times.
All restaurants are shut down, towns are requesting hikers do not come in to towns, and the PCTA has requested we don't hike :( So I'm pausing the PCT for now.
Lauren Roerick -Right. I got my PCTA letter a few days ago. I knew this was going to happen which is why I didn’t start. It’s heartbreaking g enough to let your start day come and go; I’m sure coming in off trail is pretty upsetting. Maybe later.
