- Hey guys! At last, here’s the first video from my PCT thru hike! This covers miles 1-41, Campo to Mt. Laguna. I’m out here and doing well, loving this beautiful trail. So glad to be able to share it with you.
You met it all! The heat, the cold, wind, rain and fog. From exhilaration to exhaustion. You are a survivor and you will succeed! Congratulations on the first leg of your journey.
This is outstanding! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. You are a born video storyteller. Amazingly sharp images, perfect music and perfect blend of scenery and your personal story. 👍. Am so excited for you that you are making your dream come true. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🎉. Thank you so much for making this video. Can't wait to see more. The PCT is a dream for so many of us. Really appreciate you taking us along. 🙏🏼✅
It really is THE dream
100% agree with this statement!!
Awesome video! Don't put on all your clothes when it's cold. Let your body heat let the down do what it's made for...trapping body heat!. Stay strong! Hell yeah! 🤘🕓
I am living vicariously through you. I’m with you every step. You are such an inspiration to all women. I’ll keep watching for your vids as you post more. You are really accomplishing an amazing feat! I am so psyched to get out there and hit the trail. Prayers coming your way to help you along. I am really enjoying seeing the area and all the nature. Be well! I know you can get it done. 💚
Excellent video! It really gave me insight on the initial 40 miles of this trail. Thank you for sharing your thoughts as well. I will be cheering you on!
Rainmaker
I laughed out loud around the 25:00 minute when you said you reached the landmark of the trail with the warning sign of explosive ordinance! Those are just about everywhere out there, even in some hiking places in San Diego. I was surprised when I first cane across this when I moved here in SoCal.
I so enjoyed your vlog and your style of telling it like it is on your journey. Looking forward to the next story. Sorry for your struggles but I am taking note for my own trek. Thank you for what your doing. 🤗
I’m so glad I found you! Its a dream to do the PCT someday and I’d do it solo so seeing another solo female document their journey is really amazing to me! Thank you!
Thru hiking = embrace the suck! My sleeping pad kept going flat last year I ended up getting a new one. Your doing great! Happy trails
So happy to be able to share your journey with you and wishing you every success. 👍
Cheering for you. Thanks for letting me in on your adventure. You have a great attitude. Remember to not over do it, take it slow and rest when needed. Listen to your body
Great job! Wonderful views. Keep on trekking!
So glad to see you getting it done! That first forty miles seems to be a hurdle for most ! Great views and so happy to watch your journey! Thank you for sharing . It’s a humbling experience I’m sure ! I can’t wait until 23 arrives and I’m there trekking the same foot miles and paces ! God Bless and thank you for sharing !
So excited for you and proud of you. You're doing great and looking forward to watching your awesome journey.
Congrats on the start and thanks for sharing. Love the videos. An epic adventure always has its ups and downs. You are doing Awesome!!! Good luck!
So happy for you, my heart is right there with the people on the trail, and I will be walking the PCT next chance I get, which could be 2023. Loud flapping tents are a nightmare. Sleeping on the cold ground. Sounds like a heck of a night. I'm really shy too, part of the appeal of hiking, its my journey. Best of luck on this hike to you!
You are doing great....and learning fast...all these things will be figured out...if you add stuff make sure it really helps you get warm when you want it to...its scary and frustrating to be cold or battling the rain or wind....you knew it could be bad....you just need to continue keeping on keepin on....you will overcome the cold the rain etc as long as you dont give up mentally...and never ever quit on a bad day...remember everyday why youre there...you wanted to be....you can do this...bless your heart !!!
Great work Marcy!
Thanks for sharing your journey, I look forward to following you from afar. You have a nice mix of showing the scenery, terrain, trail conditions etc with your thoughts, feelings, trials and tribulations, without all the prima donna selfies that so many people are addicted to. Also like your choice of background music, which seems appropriate for your narrative. Well done.
I am looking forward to following you ,, so far it has been great ,,,, love your filming of everything ,, stay positive ,, from what I have seen of others that have hiked ,,, the first 100 miles is the hardest of the desert ,, so ,, keep going ,, It will get better :-)
I like your attitude. Thanks for sharing. 2023 thru is my plan. Good luck!
You are doing a great job! Good to see hikers coming through Big Bear after last year! Hope to say “hi” when you are in BB.
Stay Strong, Hike On!
Diamond Dave
Love the video! Thank you for sharing your journey. I could totally sympathize with the anxiety of joining the trail magic. I tend to stick to myself in those types of situations too. Good for you for pushing on and moving past it! Looking forward to your next video.
This old Air Force guy is proud of you.
I'm with you to the end.
Very exciting.
Looks like you're off to a great start! Keep at it girl! 😊👍
Thank you! 😊
I am so excited to follow your journey!! I don’t know if I’ll ever get to thru hike the PCT but seeing it through your lens is amazing!
Good for you! Stay the course and happy trails. Looking forward to many more stories from you
Way to hang in there. I’m with you all the way. Slow and steady
Congratulations on your first 40. Your videos are wonderful by the way.
Thank you for taking us along on your journey. You are an inspiration 💕 Your footage is beautiful. This is the best beginning the hike video I’ve seen (and I follow several thru hikers every year)! Here’s to many more wonderful videos 🥂
The condensation is from your breath so if you have a buff try sleeping with that to block a lot of the condensation and keep your bag away from the sidewalls. Remember to stretch each morning as well.
Thank you for the suggestions! I don’t actually carry a buff, but believe it or not, I’ve been sleeping with my mask on sometimes. 😬😊
You are a true inspiration to us all!
Great video. The panning is just right, does not make my head hurts. Thank you for that. You can mail your ice axe to Kennedy Meadow to save some the weight.
What a great video. Good job. Very honest and thoughtful. You got this. We are rooting for you.
Thanks so much 🙏
You're DOing Great! --
Wonderful video! I really like your storytelling and style. A great inspiration to other solo women hikers. Thanks for keeping it real. 🌲⛺✌🏻
Yes great style. She makes me feel like we are there with her.
She has no reason to be shy. A truly wonderful woman.
Your doing awesome thanks for sharing 🤗
What a big, beautiful, brave thing you are doing! I’m excited to follow your journey. You go girl!
Great start. Except for the battery. Do you know why you had trouble with the battery? Glad you're doing good. Keep trekking.
Thankfully, it ended up just being a bad charging cord. I thought I tested it before I went, but the Anker charger doesn’t support the new iPhone charging cord with the smaller USB. New cord, and all good! 👍
Love it..you're doing amazing😍🙏🏼💪🏽
Thanks for the amazing vlog and... Good Luck! 💚
Hey from Hickory NC! I am so proud of you!
Wonderful reporting Marcy.
Great video. All the best on your treck
Really enjoyed this and well done! Look forward to more!
Eating something high in fat before bed like a big blob of peanut butter or some cheese will help you stay warmer. You may be running low on calories if you are eating earlier in camp and having a prolonged fast before breakfast. Stay warm in camp, stay in your bag, or do something like jumping jacks to warm yourself up before going to sleep. Planks in you bag work well too.
So agree with fat in the diet.
You got this! Second Chance was very overweight and once he got his trail legs, was doing 20 mile days. This is your hike, so trust your process.
Good luck and have fun from all of us at our house !!!!!
great vid! How do you get information about the water and towns that are coming up?
A trail map app called Guthook! Shows you everything! Check it out 😊
Excellent video! I appreciate the great videography and the editing! What editing program are you using. I’m so impressed with your courage and tenacity!! Be safe. More smiles than miles!!
Thank you so much! 🙏 I’m using LumaFusion. For a brief stent when I first starting playing with video editing, I tried premiere. But I like LumaFusion better for editing on my phone!
When will you bring out newer videos of your trip. Great work on them. Keep on keeping on!
Video 2 and 3 are up now! Aiming to release a new video every 5-10 days, each new video being about about a week behind where I’m physically at on the trail. (I know that’s kind of broad, but it can be hard on the trail sometimes to keep everything on a schedule. 😊) Thanks for following along!
@@MilesToGo1 no. problem. i am looking at doing the pct in 2022. i am in my sixties. I will be walking my own hike!
Hi Marcie, how and where are you in week 2 ? I am in Wicklow keeping an eye on my 98 yr old Aunt ( birthday today) and hoping to follow in your footsteps starting April next year DV dying for your next update .
That's on helluva hike! Great idea with the InReach, btw. Impressed someone who's in about the same shape as me, heads out on a trip like this!
Lets goooooo!!!
You are doing great! Considering you have been training in the very flat state of Florida, you are doing very well with the hilly terrain of the PCT.
Fantastic video and story-telling!!! Congratulations on completing your first 40 miles and making it to Mt Laguna!! The scenery was beautiful and the conditions challenging. I'm so happy that you received some much needed trail magic and the comforting camaraderie of fellow hikers. Good that you are listening to your body and hiking miles accordingly. Way to go!! Already looking forward to the next episode!!
Keep it up! You’re doing great. I was wondering if you’re keeping the downwind vestibule flap open at night to reduce condensation? I’ve got a single wall too and that’s what I do. Works for me. Stay strong!!!
Great start. I've followed many hikers over many years and as your first video this is one of the best I've seen. Good luck and keep on trekking.
Lol.....you got me on the 'first big landmark' of the trail....the sign you showed. 🤣. Yep, that sign is legendary. 👍😁. (No spoilers here.)
That smile near the end shows how a warm drink and warm meal can lift one's spirits in a way never appreciated in the city. ☺️. Hopefully soon, your Florida blood will get used to those cold nights. Every winter, I visualize some mythical anti-freeze going in my body. Then things don't feel so cold. Except for my nose. 😜. I haven't figured out how to keep the darn thing warm at night. 🤔🤧
Okay commenting again now that ive actually watched the whole thing - super excited to follow along! I know you said in one of your other videos that you just want hiking as an overweight person to be normal, and in a lot of ways it absolutely is thanks to the fantastic community of people that hikers tend to be made of. But in other ways being an overweight hiker is different, both physically and in our own heads. You mentioned other heavy hikers you've watched on UA-cam that showed you how they hike, but youre the first one ive stumbled upon, so youre that person for me right now. Being both self sufficient in my confidence and being respectful of my body's needs are things that are super important to me, and the fact that they are important to you too makes me really excited to see what you share with us on this epic journey.
I’m shedding happy and excited tears here in Australia. I feel so honoured to be sharing this journey with you. I think you’re hiking an intelligent hike. Take it slow but steady and you will find your trail legs. It’s a lot of miles to go. Enjoy every one of them. Sending you all my hiking strength and energy.
Congratulations on your first 40. Nice Video.
Take care and be safe. Bob from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
Thanks so much! 🙏 Glad to have you along!
The trail welcomes you in grand style! Nice video!👍. Please update on the status of your air mattress .
I ended up not being able to repair it, so had to wait in Mt Laguna for a new one. But I got it, and I’m back out there!
Great to hear! Sleeping on the Trail is absolutely necessary!👍
That's a great first trail video. Thanks for taking us along. You're doing great. Finding the best tent site and tent orientation to reduce wind are learned skills. You'll figure it out.
Good attitude & problem solving👍. Looks like you’re favoring one side as you hike 🤷♂️. Be aware of compensating since that part of ur body will become overworked, esp feet & legs.
Hmm, thanks for pointing that out. I’ll try to pay attention to that 🙏
Beautiful video, well done, and congratulations on a great start!
Loved the video! It felt like I was out there with you. As others have said, great storytelling!
What a wonderful video! Best of luck as you continue on the PCT. You survived more than your share of glitches on the first days and you had to acclimate to a different climate. You got this!
You'll start to sleep better at camp soon, it just takes a while to adapt. Ditch the roll pad and get a Nemo switchback or Zlite as back up. you'll probably repair you Xlite a bunch. get a repair kit and find the leak by dunking it underwater and looking for the bubbles. When able, heat some water and put it in a bottle then a sock. Put it wherever you're cold, it works.
I’ve been loving following along with your all of your prep and now your hike! Thank you so much for sharing this with us 💕
I'm hiker trash from 2019 and it gives me all the feels watching your videos. I love watching you listen to your body and knowing when its time to stop and rest.
I was FREEZING for the first 500ish miles in my quilt. Basically until I got a thermal sleeping bag liner. If it doesn't get better id recommend one!
Cant wait to see more, happy trails!
The hills will get easier as your Florida legs acclimate to hiking uphill. Looking forward to seeing more of the trail through your eyes!
Nice work Marcy. Keep taking on those challenges!
Congrats on surviving your first jaunt! You have been having it all weather Wise ! Doing a great job filming . Looking forward to walking to Canada with you virtually speaking lol
Slow and steady wins the race. Listen to your body. No need to push.
I love that you started the video with some of our Cali Native plants 🌱 🙏🏽 -following- 🙂
Great Attitude, of not pushing miles at this stage, just taking it easy, getting some rest when needed. Hike on!!! stay safe..
Thank you. So inspiring...and beautiful.
Good video! Thanks for sharing your days.
Thank you for letting us share your adventure. I hope your are able to solve the problem of getting chilled at night.
Getting tested right out the gate. Perfect! It will set you up great for the long haul. You are killing it!
Excellent videography and story telling! I can’t wait to see what happens next! Congratulations on making a good start on your journey!
Great video, thanks for taking us along
Great video. The 2 times that I've hiked into Mt Laguna have both been very difficult and the weather unpredictable to insane. You've discovered the secret to hiking the PCT, get through the rough patches and enjoy the good times. I start 4/5 hopefully I get to meet you along the way!
So inspiring! Please do NOT push it and take care of your body first and foremost. I can't wait to see you finish. Thank you for sharing this! Enjoy every minute you can and stay uninjured!
Thanks so much 🙏 Really trying to play it cool and take it slow enough, rest enough etc. I want to be able to stay in for the long haul! 😊
Go girl, go! It's so awesome that already you are seeing what wonderful things people are capable of and how the trail can give you exactly what you need. That smile a the end is priceless. Til next time, remember, "When you focus on the good, the good gets better'. 40/2600 of the best memories made!
Thanks for sharing!
as the saying goes hike your own hike. you are doing good. good luck and stay safe.
Excited for you ... will be following your incredible sojourn ... safe journey 🙂👍🏼
Love your video...
Awesome video. You are really good at this, and are doing so incredibly well during the "shake down" time. You are an inspiration. A suggestion....before bed, heat a liter of water to warm (not boiling!) and put it in a little dry sack against your feet or kidneys. It'll raise your body temp a few degrees. Thanks!!
Everyday is new challenges. Wow what an adventure ! It’s all about the journey. PS the mosquitoes 🦟 are already blooming in Oregon they are early this year!
Thanks for sharing! I am looking forward to follow your journey. Greetings from Germany!
And more greetings from Germany! 😎 Yes. Wonderful first video. Glad I found her.
Great job on the first 40 miles! You are certainly seeing a range of conditions in the desert. Nice video too! 👍
I was so excited to see that you had posted a video today, I have been waiting for it with such anticipation! I'm so happy for you that you can live your dream and hike your hike. Someday I'm going to get out there too, in the meantime I am thrilled to be "hiking along" with you, thanks for the inspiration!
Watching from South Georgia! Thanks so much for taking us along with you. Rooting for you all the way! 👏🏼😎💪🏼
10:07 girl, you need a pack "shake down". Why do you need an ice axe now? You won't use it till 3 months from now in the rockies. Mail it to yourself for later. Good luck with eveything.
Thank you! Already ditched the ice axe 😊
Good tip on the insulation. I did get an xtherm pad as well 👍
I’ve been wondering how you’re doing!! So excited to see your first video from the trail! Love that you’re pushing through the challenges. Can’t wait to see what’s next. Great job and good luck!!
Wonderful video! Happy trails to you and I can’t wait for more updates. So exciting! You got this!!!
👍🥾🎒⛰💪💙🧡💙
Nice video. Thanks for all the honesty and struggles. Hope you get your sleeping pad repaired or replaced. I plan on hiking in 2023, so following you to help me prepare. Best wishes going forth.
