I have watched probably ten or more videos on builder gel and this was by far THE MOST informative one. I now feel comfortable and confident enough to use to use the builder gel I bought!
I love Orly fx! It's very strong and forgiving, and so easy to apply versus pot hard gels, I've only broke one nail and it was my fault for pushing my nails to the limit I love the self leveling so easy to get a good apex! And looks great without polish! I don't know why Nail salons don't use it more!!!!!
This is everything I was looking for! I totally did this wrong the first time and my polish came off like a sticker. Cant wait to try it again! Thanks!
I have been using the modelones builder gel in jar for 1 month now which has been 2 sets and I honestly love the consistency (it’s thick and self levels like a dream) and it’s super clear!! I love how I have control of how much I put on the brush. My only issue I’ve been having is premature lifting by the cuticle. NOW I’m gonna test this combo and I’m so excited! The Orly gets here tomorrow and the YN gets here Friday! So excited for this weekend and your video was super informative
Love this vid! I have a few different types of builder gels but have yet to use any of them! They are a tad intimidating but like yourself, I should just take the plunge and give it a go! Thanks so much for sharing!
I spend so much time prepping, all my builders have lifted within days, actually has ruined my nails. I’m trying this as my last resort then I give up. I pray it works!
Nice video! I have a quick question, when you repeated the process a second time for thickness, did you buff your nails in between applications? I don't mean in between the flash cure, but rather when you said after the initial application you expected more thickness so you repeated the process.
Any enhancement you do to your nail is not damaging, what is damaging is improper removal and improper prep. I leave my builder gel on and do not soak it off, I just fill in, which I also have a video for! Enjoy! ❤️
What if I want to add color on top of the builder? Do I still have to go step by step like I do with regular „no chip” manicure? Base coat on the builder then color and then top coat?
yes, but 100% acetone would be better. non-acetone nail polish remover has some ingredients to reduce drying of the nails and skin, which can interfere with adhesion of extensions/overlays. if you can get 90% or greater alcohol, it's better. for the same reasons, 70% alcohol has other ingredients.
What do you advise for ppl with nails that have ridges? I have a few nails with deep ridges and they split along a ridge line. I has acrylics followed by dip but once covid hit I was on my own. I decided to let my nails grow out and rehab them. They were so terrible, paper thin, couldn't even be filed because they would just bend and crack. I rehabbed for several months and they are much stronger, will grow nicely but I have two nails that seem to grow with deep grooves and once they get to a certain point they split. Split nails as I'm sure you know are super annoying. They catch and snag. I decided to use dip base powder as an overlay just on my 'bad nails' but since the dip is rigid eventually the dip would crack where my nail was split. A friend suggested gel...I went to salon to have it done, just on my bad nails but the tech suggested doing them all so they grew at the same rate. She said to use builder gel. So far I'm not loving it because my splits aren't completely filled in and I read that the builder gel is nearly impossible to remove... I enjoy polishing my nails and have quite the collection of vegan, nontoxic, good for your nails polishes so I polished right over the gel with ease. Thanks for the terrific videos!
I have so many questions as I’ve never used a builder gel. I am curious if this can add length to my nails using nail extension forms, and if so will it break easily or is it durable? I use dip powders...can I did over this, and if so, do I need to rough them up first? How long did these last for you and what is the removal process? Thank you in advance!
With builder gel, you can use paper forms or duo forms to create length. After creating legnth, you need to build the strength and apex like I did with a bead of product. I haven't soaked off since September, I just remove any lifting (which is minimal due to good prep) file down and fill in. I also use mine over dip, so you want your builder gel strong enough but not thick as the dip will add thickness as well. Removal process is file down and soak. Make sure your builder gel is soak off, because some, like hard gel, do not soak and can ONLY be filed off. Builder gels tend to be soft gels, but to be sure make sure it says soak off. I use peel base over my builder gel for quick removal with no acetone, otherwise the builder gel will soak off too. They last me until I fill in every or so weeks. I have a prep video to help you have your nails last longer!
I found that it was lifting a lot, like almost immediately. I think it's because I also used the YN protein bond rather than Orly's primer. I wonder how this worked for you and not me?
I am wondering if it would work using regular polish first then putting the builder gel on top of that. I have so much regular polish compared to gel polish.
you can just paint with regular polish on top of the builder or top coat of gel, after wiping off any inhibition layer. then you can remove the regular nail polish without upsetting the gel layer below.
of course! you can put regular nail polish, gel polish, dip, etc! I would advise using peel base though, like UNT peel base, for easy removal and non acetone removal, because the acetone will break down the builder gel as well.
I would wipe with alcohol and not acetone, as acetone could starts disintegrating the builder gel. If you want to use gel polish, yes, your steps would be add base coat, color, and topcoat. In order to remove the gel color, you would have to file, as if you soaked, the builder gel would also soak off. Or you can add a peel base after builder gel, before gel base, and peel the color off in a week or so. This would keep the builder gel intact.
I need to do this. I'm sick of soaking. But its all new to me. How long did your nails stay on with the peel base on top of the builder gel? I've used peel base and my nails popped off the next day. New subscriber 😊 loving your videos!
The peel base is different for everyone. Sometimes my nails pop off within 24h but I strive for 5-7 days. At times I can reglue a pop off and other times I have to redo a finger. Are you applying to your natural nail or builder gel? Natural nails have oils interfere with peel base quicker than builder gel overlay. It is also water based, the more your hands are in water the more it dissolves. Thank you! I'm happy to have you here ❤️
if you follow me on my instagram, dippinwithkarolina, you can see the progress of my nails. They grow pretty quickly, but they are thin and brittle so hopefully the builder gel works nice as well! I can get them to grow in 1-2 months but they need to have something on them like dip to protect my nail.
Product does not weaken the nail. Improper prep and/or removal is what damages the nail. Do not over file the nail when prepping, and when removing, do not pick or remove with force. Only soak it off after filing most of the product off.
@@dippinwithkarolina is there a gel top coat you can just put on that would make your nails little stronger that doesn't require us light? I know this is a weird question but can you wear Sally Hansen gel top coat alone or does it have to use with color? I don't who to ask lol
@@noelthompson8932 All gels require light to set. The Sally Hanson one uses gel in the name as a marketing tactic to attract customers with the gel like shine. I don't know of any products to help like that, sorry. Maybe OPI Nail Envy and lots of lotion and cuticle oil multiple times a day.
Nail structure has a lot to do with genetics. My nails are thin, but they are not brittle and they do not hurt. if I kept them at the length they are without builder gel they would break very easily. Thank you for your advice, but I don’t need to go polish/gel free as I don’t have any sensitivities or reactions to these products (eczema, contact dermatitis, onycholysis, etc) so simply because the nail is thin doesn’t mean you have to stop using them. Some people have thicker nails and some have thinner nails. mine happen to be on the thinner side and the builder gel helps them grow due to the strength the builder gel provides.

Great job. I loved this video.
Oh my gosh, that stuff made your nails ALOT harder!! That's the only reason I can't grow mine out! I will now buy this stuff. Thank you!
Very informative and helpful video. My nails are super thin and soft like yours - I thought I was the only one! 💅
Builder gel- so much easier than acrylic 👍🏼
Orlyfx lasts 4 weeks in-between fills, it's fantastic!
Thank you so much!!! I followed your tips and my builder gel nails came out perfect!!!! Salon quality 😃😃

When you bent the natural nails lol I gasped and opened my eyes real big lol Was not expecting that much flexibility
your nails came out nice 👍🏾
Hi Karolina, what brand uv lamp (with a 10 sec. Flash cure option) do you use or recommend. I didn’t see it I’m your products link below.
Thank you!

I was gonna ask her the same thing. Wish she would have answered 😓
I think she did because the shine is no longer there
She didn’t buff, she might have just used some alcohol to wipe off the sticky layer. That’s what I normally do after Application.
wondering this too!!
Thank you very much for your video. I have a question...Do you buff all nails before you start a second layer?
Wow 🤩 nice finally something easy for me 🤣 I like simple classic nails that is perfect 👌
Thank you so much for this video 🥰
Will Builder Gel affect the natural nail at all? Also, do you leave the builder gel on until it grows out? New girl here. Thanks for your video!!!

Why did you not cap your nails with the builder gel?
I was thinking the same thing I hope she answers this very important question for us
Can’t you use it on gel nails or acrylic nails two or No please let me know thank you
Hey what does flash cure mean? Thanks 🤗
Cure it quickly and only for a short time like 10 seconds

at the very end after you've wiped off the inhibition layer of the top coat.
