yamaha yds 150 its a digital sax you can use without needing a noiseproof room in your home. ;) Jørgen Lund Karlsen(another youtuber), has a really good video comparing it to a real sax
wow, its very impressive how the 2 necks can produce such different sounds, the fat neck provided the horn with great projection and an edgier tone while the standard neck gave it a beautiful soft, almost classical sound and great intonation.
I have had the Raven Cannonball Big bell Tenor 2 years now. I love it. My Selmer Super Action 80 took a back seat. I use my Cannonball mostly for Rock type music these days and the Cannonball just had that extra edge. I still grab my Selmer for Sax quartet work but both Selmer and Cannonball are amazing horns. I love the Cannonball Tenor sound it’s a bit more flexible than my Selmer
That is beautiful. By the way, just as a little tip: It was a little hard to take it in fully, because that sax is a dark color, and for the entire video it was shown in front of the black bag, then your black clothing. Some more contrast would be appreciated, especially for people with eye sight like mine. ( i have issues differentiating dark colors.) But the lighting was good enough to see, and i enjoyed the video regardless.
Brian, thank you for posting this video!!! Because of you and how you played this beautiful instrument, I recently purchased my own personal black ruby T5-R. I appreciate you, thank you for your presence and energy! Continue shining and being. The diamond light that you are as well as inspiring others like you did to me.
Hi Brian, very interesting video. That sax looks great ! Even the case is great. Regarding the neck, the first one gave your a brighter sound, more aggressive and ‘metal’, with open altissimos. The black neck gave you, I believe, a more mellow and smooth sound for jazz, ballads. I personally prefer the ruby neck. Can’t wait to hear your next videos with this horn !! 🌵🎷
As a 60 year mark VI player (playing, not my age), I would not describe the sound of that instrument as "fat" by any standard. To my ear it sounds more like an old King alto sax from the 50's. Check out Cannonball Adderly on the Miles Davis albums from that era. If you really want a fat sound by the old jazz standards, get rid of the small chamber mp you're playing and get an old New York Otto Link or similar design. Back than many players with the "Big Fat Sound" used a wide open MP (8-9 star), a one and a half strength reed, and a soft, lower lip rolled-out embouchure. Recordings of that sound do not come close to what it sounded like live. Back then when I played in a standard jazz quartet, I never used a mike in a club and the trumpet player had to blow to keep up me.
That silver neck is the only one to play on that horn. If your playing jazz or rock like you said. I liked the sou d on that silver neck way better. Just my opinion though. It sounded louder but it was more than just louder. It was fuller and just overall better timbre to my ear.
When this video came out, I never even held a saxophone. It wasn't until two years ago when I started, and another year later that I got serious about it.
I really enjoyed that :) It's a beautiful horn. Have to say I prefer the more mellow, 'cool jazz' sound of the regular neck but it's definitely worth having the other one for when you need a bit of extra bite to the tone. Anyway....cool video; cheers.
Hi Brian looks like you have experience in it. I need to buy a Saxo tenor for my daughter. She will play in high school. Wich one you recommend for her? Some people told me to stay away from Chinese Amazon saxophone because they are not good or you have to tune it very often. Is it true? I do not want to expend a lot neither... any recommendation?
I got the black gloss alto version of the big bell stone series a couple of months ago I love it but my band director doesnt. Lol its my saxophone so I can buy what I want nice vid thanks for the content I just subscribed
Good morning bro . This is a very nice looking and soundi g horn. I am really starting to like Cannon ball Saxes. The double arms on the lower keys l really dont like. In my humble opinion they are unneccessary and just add weight. Do they have them with single arms on the low keys. If they have perhaps in the future l would be willing to try one for myself.
I play an alto and I thought man those notes are high.. ...HOLY CRAP that's a tenor like I can't play that high when I do my altissimo A, but a tenor an octave lower...I mean good for you man^^
An alto is an e flat instrument whereas a tenor is a b flat instrument. It is therefore impossible for the tenor to be exactly one octave lower. For an instrument to be one octave lower than an alto, it would have to have the same key as the alto, of e flat, AKA THE BARITONE SAXOPHONE. The tenor is a b flat instrument, it is lower than the alto but also higher than a baritone SO IT IS HALF AN OCTAVE LOWER than an alto. Think about it this way. Write an e flat on a staff, then write a b flat on a staff, the interval between the b flat and e flat is a PERFECT 4TH, not an octave. I'm not a professional yet, but I've been playing 9 years, trust me, its half an octave. Its also why the tenors tune on a different note to the alto, whereas a baritone and an alto tune on the same note, because a concert b flat is a c for tenor / soprano and a g for alto and bari. BTW Altissimo A is only scratching the surface, you can go up to Super C which is a c 3 octaves higher, but good on you for extending yourself in the altissimo range!
A tenor is an octave and a major second lower than WRITTEN PITCH, which is not ALTO SAX PITCH. They are two different things, written pitch is a concert C one octave higher, a good example to think about are vocalists. A tenor Vocalist is pitched MUCH higher than any tenor instrument you will come across, infact a bass vocalist is pitched about the same as your tenor. So I think you are mixing up written pitch with alto sax pitch
How protective is the case? It's hard to tell from the video. It looks like a suitcase with lots of padding, but is there any stiffness to the case to protect the sax if the case is dropped or if something is dropped on it?
I could of gotten that, but instead I got the “Brute” finish. And it is frickn’ amazing And actually, I think mine (brute) is the only type where both necks are in the finish of the sax
How did you order it? Where did you order it from? Cannonball doesn’t sell them directly on their website and I can never find one or cannonball accessories.
The Black Ruby! Thanks for watching!!
BriansThing thanks for posting! Looks and sounds fantastic!
BriansThing h

Who you telling?!?! I wanted the Raven, but after seeing this...... Woooooooo

The sax looks cool and also sounds good. I tried an alto basically the same as it. I would prefer Yamaha or Selmer but it is great.

8 months later and guess who’s got their very own, but in the Raven finish? 😄
That is beautiful.
By the way, just as a little tip: It was a little hard to take it in fully, because that sax is a dark color, and for the entire video it was shown in front of the black bag, then your black clothing. That color looks more like an iridescent deep burgundy to me, or maybe a black-cherry color. I love it.
Wow, that horn sounds completly amazing
The vibrato is so goooodddsds
Yes I that . I want one but for Alto Sax. But probably very expensive if can buy . Yep.

I recently (aka 30 minutes ago) picked up this sax. It clicked with me. Thank you for making this video and inspiring me to try out this sax!
The standard neck is definitely more mellow. Beautiful saxophone, great player. Sub.
Love the color of this sax...all but the neck. It should be purple also
I recieved my Black Ruby Horn in September. Like falling in love. I had them engrave it and it looks AMAZING

I need that sax but in ALTO form!
This thing is sooo beautiful, I would die to get this
Rylan Cruz you could make just as good of sounds on a regular sax with a good mouthpiece if you’re good at playing
Are you going to get the baritone sax too by the way love the way it looks
I didn't know the bari model already came out in this finish! Will need to check that out! 😀👍🎷
I am SO jealous man wow that is a beauty!
I have a CB in brute, which took a little getting used to. I think this color will be a love it or hate it. Looks cool but not my thing.

Sounds and looks lovely! Also do you think this Sax would be too big for some one whose 5'3?
I really enjoyed that :) It's a beautiful horn. Have to say I prefer the more mellow, 'cool jazz' sound of the regular neck but it's definitely worth having the other one for when you need a bit of extra bite to the tone. Anyway....cool video; cheers.
A beauty, your explanation awesome Brian love that deeper sound awesome thanks love..☺

Awesome video man
So much performents
About how much did you spend on the saxophone?
my dream sax
How much was the saxophone if you don't mind me asking. Just seems like my local dealer is racking up the price.

I'm in band and I play the alto saxophone
Nice horn!
so how does this one compared of playing a selmer paris or a yamaha ?
Is that a Cannonball case? It looks fabulous I love the locking part
Yes it is. I love being able to lock it up when I'm on the road!
I want one soooo bad
I want this instead of my gold 2nd sax D:
Everyone needs at least one Black Ruby! 🤘
could fit a soprano sax in the front pocket.
Hahaha maybe!
How much is the Alto sax
Where it's available
Jesus how much was that beauty
Wow. Gorgeous sax!
I’m not even a saxophone player... I want my euphonium in a cool color like that.
