    The big problem of Cannonball is the restrictive distribution policy. Almost impossible to play test one in Germany. Cannonball must understand that they are not the premium brand on the market. Right now they are just not competitive on the european market and having experienced the shipment and customs issues when buying online from the UK it's fair to consider the UK not being part of the european market anymore..

    Hi Jim, great demo, I really enjoy your videos. I bought that exact sax from your online store. Shout out to Jules for his help through the process. I am coming back to playing after many years, I also own a Selmer Super Action 80 that I bought in the mid 80’s. As I play both more often I starting to understand the differences in tone and sound. I have to say that the Cannonball does benefit from 40 years of technical development and is an absolute pleasure to play. The black nickel finish is a standout and as you said, the altissimo range is very easy to hit in comparison to my Selmer. I could be me! I’m in Australia and the Cannonball rules make life difficult for international buyers.

    Great review Jim. I'm curious about Cannonballs but, like most I suspect, cannot get my head around what they think they are trying to achieve buy not permitting retailers to sell online... Just bizarre. I second the request below for a review of the Vintage Reborn - that would be the one that I'd like to have a blow on.

      I agree 100%! Cannonballs always sound great, but it's a bit of a turn-off that it seems like they want you to prove yourself in order to buy one. Like, if you have to ask you can't afford one type of deal.

    I was one of the skeptics from the last video, however! I do agree that the precious stones looks fantastic! I wonder if they might be good from a durability stand point too? I find that mother of pearl sometimes wear off easily.

    Do you make another video on the Cannonball altosax ? I'll be very much interessted. I like the big bell. Makes the saxophon klinging darker and that's exactly what I am looking for. I thaugt about buying a King Super 20, but they are hard to find and the Cannonball could be a choice, but why are they not on the europian market ? For many years I've been playing Selmer but even with my fabuolous mouthpiece Brillhard Brillhard from 1942 it still sounds a little to bright for me.😮

    I’ll take a Yamaha 62 over a cannonball every time. Who cares about what colour stones are on the saxophone. It’s the alloys that make it play and incredible action. Yamaha is a solid choice at any price point

      Yamaha is far the best choice.

      That doesn’t mean cannonballs are a pushover or bad brand. I’ve played both Yamaha and Cannonball,and while I do agree the Yamaha is better, the cannonball is not too far behind and is still a great pick.

      I'll take a cannonball over any yamaha ever. Yamahas get way more leakage and damage. Cannonballs are far more durable and can last many years without being in the shop. also cannonballs sound better than a bright yamaha.

    Ok, nice and all but why does it sound like an alto though?

    • @Kieraaa2003
      @Kieraaa2003 Рік тому +1

      if you really think that sounds like an alto, you clearly haven't listened to or played saxophone for very long.

    Non of the cannonball sax comes with precious stones. All are semi-precious that sounds similar but the price difference is dramatic. Semi precious stones are incredible cheap, that could cost cannnonball maybe 20 usd to put those stones

    the stones do make a huge difference. Just pop the stone off the neck, and it feels like the sax doesn't voice correctly. The stones also allow you to feel the sax differently when you play due to the way they resonate under the fingers. Not much of a difference sound wise with the main stones on the keys in my 15 yrs of cballs. Makes a huge difference with the stone on the neck though for sure!

    • @dynoroad
      @dynoroad 2 роки тому +1

      Ah yes! If only Michael Brecker could've used those stones! His saxophone would've finally voiced correctly!

    i’m honestly not a fan of cannonballs, at all. they look beautiful do not get me wrong. but they’re not that good lol, but if you make it work for you good for you :)

      They’re still good saxophones and sound great. Yeah they’re no Yamaha or Yanagisawa, but those are the top of the level saxophones so of corse nothings going to beat them. I don’t know what you’re trying to prove here

      Yanagisawa is far from cheap. The least expensive Yanagisawa is almost $4,000. Having said that I swear by Yanagisawa. My tenor is a Yanagisawa.

      I’ve owned a p mauriat and a cannonball. The latter is better quality for sure. P mauriat is junk imo I was glad to sell mine.
