I play this in Sweden. Just download it play. Use onscreen translator if there's something you don't understand.
Me and all my friends talk about how badly we want this game to come here, but we know it wont. I feel like it relies on the (relatively) smaller, more densely packed nation of Japan.
Correction: After a few ranks the pots start giving other items as well. It's pretty much just herbs for the first couple of levels though.
Considering we in the West will almost certainly never get to experience this game, I would love to see more of your own play through.

This is an instant hit with Japan. You know how crazy Japan went when they discovered Hero made it in Smash.
Let's hope they make the gamble and send it over to the internationals
Dragon Warrior 1 on Nes was my first jrpg so feel like im missing out with this. At least we get Dragon Quest of the Stars and Tact.
Aw man, four years after this video and only now I learn this is a legit, turn-based combat DQ game with GPS functionality. I was so hoping back in the day PKMNGO would have its original combat mode rather than the incessant, mind-numbing screen-tapping. But we're never going to get DQ Walk in the West, and even if we did it would probably quickly go the way of DQ of the Stars and DQ Tact. Sadge.
I have been playing this a lot, even tho there are no pots to break here in luxembourg i have still been enjoying it so much

Tbh it might happen. There was a Japanese release of the first 3 dragon quest games on switch, and it's being ported to the switch in english soon!
Been playing DQ since the beginning. Pokemon go was fun for a bit but got old. I'd love this to come over seas. I'd be addicted quick.
Currently still playing GO mainly because my wife and her best friend still play it with their group of friends. Being a more casual player on the side I see the appeal and the reasons both as to why it still has tens of millions of people playing around the world and why millions of others have dropped the game. From a presentation and mechanics stand point, this game is definitely much higher in quality compared to GO which I have consistently bashed as a game that looks like an indie mobile game (although in truth it is made by a multi-million dollar established company).
Also, being a pretty huge fan of Dragon Quest, I would drop GO in an instant if this game made it West but I've been a DQ fan long enough to know this game has a 0% chance of making it into the Western Market. Why? Because literally no DQ mobile games ever do. Like the video states, DQ is extremely niche in NA/EU. The main series games has ports, sure, but no spin-offs ever made it over. SEA Region has seen a few games drop here and there but are quickly taken down with a year or 2 due to low interests or little activity.
P.S. The genre of these games are called Mobile AR btw. Not sure if you were being sarcastic in the beginning there.
It's so sad Dragon Quest isn't appreciated in America. Some of my fondest memories come from the first Dragon Warrior game.
Been wanting to develop something similar as a side project, so more examples of variety is a treat. Cheers for the share!

this is pretty neat! i'm taking a decent-length trip over to japan in a few months as part of a study abroad thing, i might try the game out for myself to see how it compares. though it's a shame i'll have to give it up when i come back home ^^;;

Would be very cool if this were regularly featured - I'm in Japan but have a foreign android account so am not able to enjoy the game just yet
Pokemon in general is going down, I feel, so it's nice that other franchises can provide what pokemon is lacking

So in walk mode you just put it in your pocket and walk than your character will brake pots and fight till it wins or die till you check on it again hopefully not sad that you just walked a mile and now your character is dead.
I love dragon quest so much! lol i would say tho that pokemon's battle system is def more simple than Dragon Quests but simple can be very good as seen by both series' popularity

im playing it in the US ....i dont know what im doin cause i dont speek japanese but im already lvl 6 ive completed 4 what id call monster bounties ive placed my lvl 1 2 and 3 buildings but haveing issues placeinng lvl 4 ((i had issues placeing level 2 building for a while)) ive defeated 1 boss monster.... ive gotten monster trophy thingies of various grades ((you equip them to boost your stats)) the game really is fun ....but since they not working on US no pots :( soo my take is to play till i caint if there is something nnessisary im missing it be cooler if we can get more places to build stuff in US

Great game. Played for 3 days while in Tokyo recently. Awesome game ! They released the metal slime dungeon for a few days. Was dam hard at lvl 10. Prob can’t play it now that I’m back in Beijing. :(
Whoa this looks cool. Can you talk about the monetization? What really turned me off from Pokémon Go was how focused the game design was around microtransactions. It felt really predatory and like the opposite of fun. If DQ Walk is doing something different then I am very very interested. I love the idea of games centered on walking around the real world but I haven't seen this realized in a way that really captures me yet.
It didn't really focus on monetization because you could get around £20 worth of pokècoins by just going on a walk but if your overweight of live in a rural place then i'll admit the micro-transactions start to take over...
As a dev I'd love to hear opinions would Making the battles anymore intricate negate free walking vibe that games of this nature go for?

This would be hella amazing in the west... As a westerner who's played most of the dragon quest games I think this would be so fun. I like adventuring as is but didn't like pokemon go because it was too simple and repetitive. This looks like it would be a good addition to dragon quest line along side the western release of dragon quest for the stars.

This would definitely be interesting to try, but I don't have any hope of actually that they will import it to the West.
The battle system definitely makes the game feel like it would be more engaging to me compared to Pokemon Go.

No they added proper battles in plus quests and more pokèstops plus Gen 5 got added today.

Aw man, I want it really bad. I've liked Dragon Quest since the first time I played Sentinels of the Starry Skies on DS, and I've only liked it more with each one I played. I genuinely don't know why the series isn't more popular over here... Its games on offer are really strong, especially nowadays.
I guess I'll just have to wait and see, but the US is pretty huge, especially compared to Japan. That kind of personal detail would be tough to replicate. Not that I wouldn't be fine with something generic, of course.
Here's hoping it gets brought over here! (And also that they release that Dragon Quest Heroes I+II Bundle on Switch in English, but that's another matter entirely. I'm not holding my breath, but...)

I wouldn't really say this game has "dunked on" pokèmon GO! Pokèmon GO! has really evolved with actual battles and better UI but Dragon quest walk looks like a Spiritual successor to Pokèmon GO! and it might even become better but i'll need to know some more things before i can confirm that like how many monsters are there because pokèmon GO! is on Gen 5 sooooo....
I mean does the Monsters matter we can't recruit them
@@bugsterlincapoop7900 There are currently 154. But to me pokemon go has no end game or real combat. This game has raids you actually have to be leveled and not just auto to solo and I expect them to get way harder. Level cap is 55 and you can change between 5 jobs to get their passive buffs.
