Thank you for the information. I grew up in Southern Utah, specifically St. George, and moved to Salt Lake to attend college at the U. For the last 15 years after college, I have lived in all the places you mentioned except Daybreak. All those places you've highlighted are solid choices. My favorite place, and where I'm living now and probably will until I retire, is the Avenues in Salt Lake. It's a fantastic historical neighborhood. We've put a lot of emphasis on walkable communities and being less dependent on cars. A highly walkable neighborhood is a must for me, and the Avenues fit this description. I can walk to work, and it only takes me 15 minutes, or I can ride my bike, and it takes me 5 minutes. I can walk to any events or establishments downtown SLC offers. It's truly incredible to be able to do this. For the active person, the Avenues is only 25 minutes away from any ski resorts you mentioned in the video. City Creek Canyon, Bonneville Shoreline Trail, and King's Peak are also for hikers and bikers that are 5 minutes away. The housing prices are astronomically high, but as the old saying goes about real estate, the most important thing is location, location, and location.
Nice video and good info. On your last area, Suncrest, I actually live up here and have lived here for 16 years. I love it up here and wouldn’t trade it for the world. With that said I’d just like to say, I’ve seen quite a lot of families come and go over those years and a lot of them end up leaving quickly because of one major reason, the snow. We get a lot of snow up here. 22/23 winter we got a total snowfall accumulation of 20 feet, 240 inches. It’s no joke and quite a bit different than the valley or even the bottom of the hill in Draper. If you, or anyone looks to coming up this way please take that into mind and be prepared. Still, it’s an awesome place with awesome people, the sense of community is strong in part because we do get those massive snow storms, where we are literally digging out a neighbor or going to pull a stuck vehicle out of the ditch. Just thought I’d mention that, thanks!
Surprised you skipped over Park City so quickly as it’s the place to be. Best snow skiing, snowmobiling, Live outdoor concerts, close to lakes for water skiing and fishing, numerous authentic restaurants, great shopping, art galleries. Beautiful hotels and spas, awesome vibes.
Hello Scott as a fellow Utah UA-camr (10 cow ranch and badlands ballistics). I found you video interesting. I have a small cattle ranch in Carbon County. I would like to see some small growth come here but not to be overloaded. I love the small town feel.
Husband and I are originally from Louisiana and husband was transferred to SLC for Covid work. We originally lived on Capitol Hill and LOVED IT. We now live on the new side of Daybreak and feel like we are in hell bc of all of the construction noise and it's smashed even tighter together and the rental townhome we are in is almost 360 degrees surrounded since we moved in with new townhomes. There will be zero views out any window that aren't facing a wall. I feel bad for the owner. As great as the parks and amenities are in Daybreak, idk how much longer we can stay.
Rally waiting your video about cons of Daybreak. But let me guess... it's HOA and it's goes up every year? Based on listings Daybreak have different HOA based on home location. It's unusual for HOA, but looks like interesting idea.
The Master HOA covers the entire community including single family homes while the sub HOA fees vary barred on which townhome or condominium complex it covers and therefore they cost more as those exteriors are the responsibility of the HOA
@@scottdsteeleid love info on St George or areas that are warmer in winter in general. We're from the South and definitely would prefer less harsh winters
This was helpful. I’m in Bend, OR now and I’m considering Utah. As a bonus It would be a relatively easy commute with my dog from SLC and surrounding areas to St. George for a couple months to take a break from winter. Thanks!
Wet visited my sister in bend, and I think you’d be disappointed moving to Utah. Utah beautiful nature but it’s CROWDED. I feel like it’s easier to spend time in nature and not feel overrun by humans in bend
I would not move to most of these places but I would consider a lot of the rest of the state if you can find a job. Moab, St. George, anywhere South of Price. Once again, the job is the hard part but it is incredibly beautiful!
We were looking at moving there but from the comments it sure doesn’t sound like the residents want new homes/ people there. I can relate , our once Beautiful Town has been destroyed from Hollywood filming TWD here. They let new homes get built to where you honestly can’t recognize this city anymore. I can say we’re not rude to the new people here even though we sure didn’t vote for our town to be overgrown like this. It’s not the peoples fault that they wanted away from Cali & NY and to move to a safe area. Our councilmen just got caught with his hands in the real estate business while explains why he approved all the building without the infrastructure to support all the new homes. Good Old Boys still doing back room deals . It’s really sad . We just want to move as close to off the grid as possible and be blessed with a nice group of people around us .
Thanks for sharing! There are countless places that I did not mention because everybody has their own likes and dislikes, etc. This video is about where I would like to live and doesn't have to be for everyone
Funny fact: Utah is known for its outdoor activities but, be aware that locals HATE new people to go to their best trails and hikes , like if they owned public space😂. You will have a hard time trying to find the best of Utah and locals will do whatever is in their hands to keep you away from those gems
I've lived here my entire life and haven't experienced this whatsoever. There a vocal minority who spread their opinions online and perhaps there are people like this... I've never seen it though
@@scottdsteele 😂😂😂yeah right man, keep lying just for content … people are not dumb, everyone can just simply take a look at the comments on IG or TikTok of any publication from places here in Utah, as simple as that…
If you or anyone believes that the comment section of social media platforms is a healthy barometer to find the truth or even a decent place to find information, I can tell you it's not.
Yeah straight up. We don’t like foreigners coming in and flooding our trails. Big cottonwood is a tourist town at this point and we all hate it and are not nice to you non locals
You forgot one factor - income! 🤣. We built our home in '14 and since it's doubled in value making it nearly impossible for most people to afford. A ski resort pass for 1 day is $150+, making it unaffordable to most. I have a Snowbasin pass, but there's no chance I'd pay $150+ a day. We live in Farr West and enjoy it but it's getting out of hand with new builds. Funny about Daybreak, I've known many people who went and left within 2 years. People didn't like the people, too pretentious!
I disagree. A lot. I've skied, boarded and snowmobiled in both and I've spoken with hundreds of people who have done the same. The snow here is drier and there are more powder days. Alta & Snowbird get far more, and far better snow than any resort in Colorado and those 2 resorts have been named the "The Powder Kings of North America" and truly embody "The greatest snow on earth" moniker that Utah touts. Colorado has twice as many resorts yet Utah has more skiable acres so you also get more for your money.
Terrible take on Ogden. Ogden is great, and you failed to give the actual town, justice. Kaysville & Syracuse have ZERO to do with Ogden, they are their own towns, with a very different culture and not even in the same County as Ogden. Farmington would have been a much better comparison.
Terrible take? I am just talking about where I would live if I were moving here and I clearly say that I would look at the areas around a Ogden, meaning the Ogden metropolitan area which includes 3 counties and stretches all the way down to Bountiful. This isn't a terrible take, it's just my opinion of where Good opportunities exist.
Hey thanks Devin for noticing. I'm running a business, my family and so much more and sometimes if there's a mistake, it's possible that it doesn't mean anything more than being human. I now pay an editor who helps me because each minute of video is over a half hour of work for planning, filming, post production with B-roll clips like this one you've pointed out.
I do know that Daybreak is built on a super fund site due to the heavy metals in the soil and ground water from the nearby mine. I've also read through the results of the cleanup and I've seen the data of the results for this site as well as the surrounding areas. The result is the fastest growing community in Utah and an amazing place to live. For those who live in fear and do not read past the headline that Daybreak was a toxic wasteland... it likely isn't the place for them.
I'm sorry that home prices are what they are, and i cannot control that. There are homes in many of the areas that I've mentioned as places that I would move to that have homes that are at or below the median home price here. The exception of course is Park City.
Husband and I are originally from Louisiana and husband was transferred to SLC for Covid work. We originally lived on Capitol Hill and LOVED IT. If I ever earned enough money, I would love to live in one of those houses above Main Street at the very top of the street, right on the ski run

"Hot mess" Best description of Lehi/Saratoga Springs traffic! What the heck were they thinking when they built those roads?
I agree, it's a mess now but the building of the roads is happening now. The growth was just so fast and the infrastructure now has to catch up
