There is another version where the girl’s brother married a dame who was jealous of his sister’s beauty and wrongfully pinned the blame for destroying furniture, killing a horse and their child on her to make him cut off his sister’s hands and toss her in a river where she would find better tidings. And in the same story, the main protagonist almost lost her baby in a river and she had been told by a passerby to reach in and when she did, that was when her hands grew back so she was able to save her child. Later in the story, before her brother finds her again, he finds out the truth about his wife’s misdoings and ties her braid to the tail of a horse wherein the horse runs so fast dragging her away. By the time the horse returned, only the braid remained on the horse’s tail. Of course, it was one that Jon Solo explained in his messed up origins video on the story.

There's a Japanese version where it's the girl's stepmother who has the heroine's arms cut off by her father and abandoned in the forest. The girl later gets a monkey sidekick who's also her dead mother. The story goes through the same beats, with the maiden getting married and the stepmother intercepting her husband's letters.

In high school I saw a play from the Knee-high Theater company called The Wild Bride. It was based on the Maiden Without Hands and also influenced by the story of Robert Johnson's deal with the devil and incorporated blues music. It was an amazing performance.

11:47 How did she "choose this one for herself"? A miller sells his daughter to Satan, then he chops off her hands and kicks her out of the house?! Or did she leave his house of her own choice, and if so, how can she be blamed for fleeing her insane abusive father?

These kinds of stories need a wise helper character telling these unfortunate ladies that when someone is throwing emotions at you it’s not your body, attitude, belongings or anything related to you. Cutting your hands off won’t solve the problem because it’s the emotion throwers problem.

The Grimm's stories were also partly recordings of oral tales, so it's possible there are a few games of telephone missing from the story.

Back in 2014, we were tasked in one of my college class to make a movie poster as an assignment. We were given a list of stories and Penta was one of them. I instantly got hooked on the story and was surprised I was the only one went with it 😂
I can't remember if I still have that poster. Those were the times my drawing skills are still on a bad quality 😂

Anyways, always fun hearing this old tails! Thank you 😊

Not sure if you'll care about these suggestions as the fairy tales I'm about to recommend are more action packed than disturbing, but I think you should do videos on these three...
Iron hans: the story about a prince who gets kidnaped by what can best be described as a Sasquatch wizard, gets kicked out but still uses his help to win a war and gaslight a king
The King of the Golden Mountain: The story about a kid who does things like out smart a dwarf, rescue a serpent princess from a bunch of shadow knights, and reclaim his kingdom with a magic sword
Lily and the Lion: The story about a girl who falls in love with a lion prince and must go on a quest to save him from a yandere dragon princess

Well, yes but no, father in Grimms story is not absolved from any responsibility, and no, the girl is not "speaking untruth" when she says she is "forsaken by everyone", and "but it was her ChOiCe" logic does not work here: she knew she had no power over her father's decisions, but she knew very well that he forsakes her by the very act of offering her to devil, and so it is true what she speaks. When she does not stay at his home, it is not "her choice to live alone" but rather a bit of personal boundaries and spine she has, and also its potentially very dangerous to stay under one roof with your abuser after he "gets good again" and offers a lot of stuff to "make up for it". ESPECIALLY if he offers a LOT of stuff. So, yeah, 1)she IS forsaken 2)her father is NOT absolved

The ending of the original version makes me think of the time the Muppets acted out the The Jabberwocky poem.
“It gurgled as it came!” Says Scooter.
“Gurgle gurgle! Gurgle gurgle!” Says the Jabberwocky puppet, literally it says the actual words “Gurgle gurgle!” not make a gurgling sound. I laugh so hard every time 🤣

    Why?
Because Penta and her brother look like each other, and he's into that, plus royal, gotta keep the bloodline pure. My guess, hands were figuratively used as they would be unblemished from work, the soft royal hands of his own bloodline.

Now Snow White aka Schneewittchen, the dwarven miners are possibly based on minor miners. That's right, child labor. The cute little hats carried over by Disney, were to identify the bodies.
However if Schneewittchen was a royal refugee trying to escape her stepmom, it would make sense to hide out as the house keeper for a mining crew. Which I suspect work for the royal family, as the mine would be on the land of the kingdom of the royal family.
Did you know there's actually a real world mirror in a museum in Germany that the magic mirror was based on? Somehow that particular mirror made in the 1700's can reflect back one's voice.
