Thank you for this wonderful documentation about fairies and other nature spirits. Twenty-five years ago, before I went to bed, I put milk and wine in my garden, and in autumn, I had a few fairy rings with mushrooms there.
We are Irish, so I have grown up with these ancient tales, my grandmother and great grandparents held fast to their ancestral folklore. As a child these stories were mesmerizing, exciting and spooky. The changeling stories in my opinion, were woven out of ignorance and pain and devastation rather than the tall tales of the fae . When a child was sickly, or failing to thrive or children born with conditions that might affect their bones, or the shape of their heads, or an ailment that caused them to cry incessantly, and wear out the best of mothers, with endless tasks to do in a day and a husband and other children to take care of and no sleep, any or all of these could push any mother over the edge. They would turn to their mother or grandmother. Mother in law or an elder for advice. It would be ALOT easier to blame this "not right" child on the Old ones. To claim the Fae have switched out your baby for their own. It would be easier, than wonder what you had done wrong to deserve a child like that! Times were so hard, food was a blessing and a child that was a burden would be too much for anyone, especially when a woman would have other children to nurse and take care of. So leaving a "changeling" in the woods to unburden yourself and your family would be a much easier task, than leaving your own sickly or deformed child, your own flesh and blood, behind in the woods to perish. That would be a much easier pill to swallow. I think that is where many stories and faery tales and lore come from. They are often told to teach lessons, and others are to help people deal with some of the most painful times in a person's life.
@@Kalikat-uk5ve i would agree that that’s we’re folklore came from about the faeries and it’s also saddens me to hear about a child feeling sickly, or failing to thrive as you said i found that very sad.
On my grandfather's side both his mother and fathers family came from Eryn. His father's side from Cork and his mother's side from Kilkenny. They brought fairy with them to America and the male side has a Banshee. When my grandfather was dying we all in the family could hear the mournful crying/singing of a spirit voice on the wind during a winter storm. Being the modern age we already knew of his dying, but she sung of his death nonetheless.
In a word - Magnification. My first book as a very young boy was given to me by my mother, it was Peter Pan and how I was drawn into Tinker Bell and the lure of fantasy has never left me, even at my old age.
I once saw what I believe was one of the Faerie people. I was living alone for a while just above Llanberis pass in Wales 44 years ago. One night I was tired and slept around 9pm. I woke around midnight, and lay just looking into the room. But I was completely awake and not dreaming. Then at the side of my bed I saw a being standing, watching me quietly, and making no movement. This being didn't look like any illustration of a Faerie. It was about 3 or 4ft in height and on its head it wore a long cap which came down over its forehead. Its skin was the colour of old pine wood, and its face was thin, as if the skin were stretched over the bones. It looked neither male nor female, and both young and very old at the same time. But its hat was remarkable. It was covered with living eyes, each of different colours, each eye blinking sometimes, and revealing eyelids with iridescent colours. The creature watched me intently and I sensed its intent was benign, with an amazement and great curiosity, as if I was as fascinating for it to see, as I was fascinated to see it. I knew if I looked away for even a second or even blinked, it would disappear, and so I held my gaze as long as possible. Eventually I had to blink, and it was gone. I got out of bed, and tried to write what I'd just seen but my words couldn't describe it properly. I tried to paint it but the painting wouldn't work. I sensed that I mustn't do those things, and that it didn't wish to be "trapped" in any particular form. And that for us to meet briefly like that, was enough. I couldn't describe it properly for many years, but am able to do that nowadays for some reason.

Even though Fairies are said to exist in their own world, they do occasionally come into the human world and their movements can be seen and followed. Sometimes when you are standing by a lake or pond and there is no wind and the surface is quite calm, a small wake will appear on the surface of the water. Discovering that there are no fish or minnows there, their movements can be followed. It is always wise that you not interfere with them or try to photograph them. Also, in this modern age of ours, Fairies hate cell phones because of the radiation emitted by the phone, it seems to cause them great pain and confusion.
Even Africa has its older understanding of nature spirits, which is where it all originally came from. Bakna Rakna meaning good folk, is an type of African faery, then there is the Aziza, they are as small as insects, with butterfly looking wings, then there is the Ngogwe, that have long skulls, closely cropped hair, thin bodies, and tall. Then you have the malevolent Tokolosh, then you have the Yombos, then you have the Muwatia, and much more, they are different from place to place like people are different, but they a global thing.
Absolutely beautiful video. I live very near to Cottingley and grew up with the story, went to school just across from the Dell. Used to take my children when they little to look for faries in the woods, happy memories, l still believe in fairies....Thank you 🧚
I’ve been blessed to have had fairy encounters for the last 20 years. Maybe because I just love nature and the Spirit of Life. They are magical, spiritual and have been helpful to me. ‘Be kind to yourself’…. I once heard in my mind as I was leaving the woods….after interacting with them (feeling their energy, which is positive, uplifting and joyful). And yes, they are telepathic as we all are. I think they take a shining to people who respect nature and treat animals with kindness…🤗🫶🧚✨💫
This is lovely, something wonderful to listen to on New Year's Day (2025). I loved tales of fairies when I was a child, and as a young adult I read many books that had some fairy-tale influences. Today I am hearing familiar names, and am reminded of stories half-forgotten.
I Know it's a big ask, but your analysis of Tolkien's adaptation of British and Scandinavian folklore would be very revealing. His purpose in creating Middle Earth was to restore a mythology to England, a mythology he believed was destroyed by the multiple invasions of the small island by foreign influence and domination.
Having done quite a bit of DIY myself, I know how much work you’ve put into your home, and that you’ve only shown a small part of it here. Well done!🐝🤗❤️
There is a belief in Serbia that there are villas and there really are... A lot of encounters with them are different... They are part of nature, guardians, the same, as well as the seas, rivers, snowflakes, forests, meadows, oceans, celestials... Respect and don't make fun of them, because where something is said, they are among us. They look through the soul, often depicted as indescribably beautiful, but they also punish mortals with insult and disrespect
There's a movie based on the photographs of those 2 girls. It's called "Photographing Fairies". Very beautiful movie, which also captures the effect that encouters with fairies can have on human beings 🧚🏼♀️
