With that amount of sand and rust that came out of the cylinders, the crankcase is certainly full of crap as well. You need to do a total teardown and clean or replace any damaged/rusted parts. Crying shame for a motor with only 21 hours on it. Good luck with it. Keep posting videos on your progress.
Hi Carl. You may get the motor running but your largest struggle will probably be to make it a reliable outboard. The crankshaft, bearings, cylinder walls, pistons may be rusted and pitted. If so then this motor will experience premature wear. If you are committed and get the motor running then I recommend to do a full teardown, inspect all parts and have all pitted parts resurfaced by a reputable machine shop. Anyway, my next steps would be to check if the motor has spark and then clean the fuel system and replace all serviceable parts. Before you sink any money in the motor I strongly recommend you to do a cost calculation to see what it may cost to get this one running again and compare that by getting a good running used motor. My guess is that buying a used motor is your best bet from a financial point of view but it will not make for great UA-cam content. Lol Good luck. Look forward to the next video. Steve.
I agree, the rust coming out of the cylinders and the fact the engine was stuck tells me there is internal corrosion. This engine may run but over long term it will fail prematurely.
If you already have the spark plugs out get a transmission funnel and some ATF and dump it on top of the pistons let it cook for a couple days then blow it out again by turning it over. Looking good so far
Hey man, might be a good idea to remove the valve cover and give the valve train a good clean up, ideally removing the head would be the best option to really clean the valves and get access to the cylinder walls
Looking forward to seeing the outcome, make sure to drain all the fluids regardless if they look clean better safe then sorry, marvel mystery oil in the cylinders and let it sit for a couple days would be good. Check the carbs flush flush flush Keep us posted and Best of luck
Your apparent lack of tools, knowledge and camera skills is a bit concerning but hilarious. Don't let that stop you! I'm subscribed and awaiting your next video
Right! I see so many abandoned and derelict boats going to waste. It always has me thinking…. What if someone actually put in the work….? Thanks for the sub!
Great content, especially for someone who also does not really know what they are doing like myself with outboard motors. Thanks for walking through your creative workarounds. Gained a subscriber.
HI, Its great that you are trying to get this up and running. 20+ hours gives you opportuinty. You may want to consider sending it to a Suzuki technician to to strip down and Clean out? think of all the time experimenting? Not to mention the EPA disaster spewing gas on you driveway? It IS a good motor so why not get it properly refurb? I would wuggest focus on the Boat repairs while an expert fixes up the motor? A good teardown refurb for a couple grand may give you years of a great motor? Just saying? Not hating. i have a 2001 Optimax purring along... ...Lots of haters on my rig too.
The lower cowlings come off with 4-5 5/16 screws. Makes cleaning and working on it much easier. Soak those cylinders with atf or marvel mystery, don’t flush with straight gas anymore…. not enough lube ….mix it up with some used oil if you have some. Flush the crankcase a few times as well.
Subscribed for more engine and boat elecrtrical salvaging content. Eager to see your experience and if this motor is reliable after the sinking. Wishing you good luck, Keep up the good work!
Sorry I’m late to the game. Been there done that is why I had to subscribe to this channel. Their are several good comments so far. There is one thing you have to get straight from the start and that is knowing what the word BOAT stands for = BREAK OUT ANOTHER THOUSAND. 😂 Sad but true. Can’t wait to follow your journey! Don’t forget to polish your fuel before you get to far that way you’ll know if your tank is contaminated. There is a product called Boat Dust it is the best product to remove rust from stainless and fiberglass. Best of luck!
Dude. You are an animal!! I'm up in Philly. Jealous up here!! You might be able to find a cheap head or chest strap to hold the go pro. Looking forward to the next video!! Don't give up!! Looking forward to the video of you gliding across water some day soon!!
I’ll keep at it! Thanks for following along! I feel a little sketchy being the guy in is driveway with a camera strapped to his forehead…. But then again, my neighbors have to look at my boat yard everyday 😅
The only thing about boats when they break on the water can't exactly walk to get help like most people saying it may run but can you trust to be reliable. My sister lived in Florida years ago car got flooded ran and drove ended up getting total 3 months later corrosion on electronics were on going problem salt water is a killer good luck hope it all works out for you
Hey you need to probably change that hydraulic fluid in that trim ram it’s probably got stuff in it also you need to pull all the electrical plugs on the motor and spray them with a electrical water displacement spray and clean them off and plug them back in and I would pull the plug on the lower unit drain all that lower unit and depending what comes out if water got in and it looks bad I’d probably pull the lower unit and clean all that out good the faster the water gets out of all that the better you are and I see alot of outboard motor techs use just regular wd-40 to spray electrical and everything some of that other stuff gets expensive but definitely change that fluid in that trim before jacking it up and down a bunch if that fluids bad it will burn that pump up on your trim hope this helps
Good job bro but I didn’t think you’d even get it to turnover when it was frozen and especially with plastic straps😂😊 I’d like to see the conclusion to this hopefully you get it running that would be awesome
Hey dude just found your Channel very interesting I would love to see this thing crank up and you get out on the water on it! I subscribed so I can see what your next steps were good luck!
It’s the best I used it on a diesel Detroit that was frozen for 15 years got it free in 3 days of soaking after replacing some parts motor ran super good .
Guessing you have deep pockets! Love that you're a DIYer too. I have to do the same as most of my maintenance would far exceed my limited budget. Marine shops will tell you that it's not worth the cost and Oh by the way check out this new Suzuki over here for $18000. Good luck with it. I'm thinking you're gonna have to buy the manual and scour UA-cam for how to videos. I'm a graduate of UA-cam University myself... Probably the best thing will be to pull the power head and tear it down so you can get the rest of that crap out of the motor. Deep Creep all of the electrical connections as well. Are you in Texas?
Florida man here! Pockets are not deep enough! You can learn almost anything online! Or just enough to make you dangerously confident that you can do it your self. Thanks for following along!
Not trying to say I know much. But it would have maybe east to break loose if you had put some grd # 8 bolts in the top of the crank. Then put your handle in between them. I would have also filled the cyl,s with marvel oil an let it sit a while. An just kept toping them off. While doing other work.
A wise man once said, "if it works, is it really a dumb idea"? Got the motor freed up didn't it? I'd probably check for spark next, then fuel flow. No telling yet if the rotor stator situation is ok with the water damage...
If this was me, I would have taken the power head off, and spent the needed money to give it a full rebuild, most likely will only need new end shells, piston rings and a complete seal gasket set, but by doing what your doing IE: turning it over you probably damaged the boars and pistons, and maybe the crank journals, I could do a full rebuild for my self for under £1k, where if you damage the rest of it your looking at 3-5 times that.
Keep up the work! Depending on what you paid for this boat. An outboard like that is worth saving. The boat doesn’t look that bad.Good luck! I will make sure to keep up with your progress next time you post.
No telling what she went through during hurricane Ian. My investigations lead me to believe she was washed off a boat lift. The barnacle growth was all below the power head. She must have sat half submerged for a month or two before hauled to the salvage yard. And then sat there for another two months before I won the bid to be her savior.
Next video going live soon! Sorry for the delay. My job has me on an assignment in Miami and my boat is in central Florida. Parking a truck down here is hard enough, let alone the cost of parking a project boat😵
Use diesel instead of gas take the fuel injection off open her up and clean it as best as you can put it back and fire her up when she starts let her run on the hoes for a long time . Iv had so many Suzukis it ain’t funny . Best motors ever any one who tells you different don’t know .

I haven’t seen you change the oil yet. I think that would be the first thing I would’ve done. I hope you did. Good luck getting her going.

Gained a subscriber! Love watching “salvage” boats get revived!

Find replacment gaskets and pull the heads off and give it a good cleaning
Let’s call that plan C
Very interesting Looking forward to the next video.
It’s on the way! Thanks for following along!
NOTHING BUT LOVE BRO , I GOT THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY MERCURY THANKS FOR THE TIP
Thanks Bro!!! Glad to help! Hope you get yours to run. Check out my latest video for an update on this project!
I can’t wait till next part, I hope you can get it to run!
Thanks! Next video on the way!
Marvel Mystery Oil is the best product to use in the cylinders to break them free and Lube. Also, mix it with the gas when you fire it up

Good idea and suggestions! I guess straight fuel can be a little rough on the components.

We’ll see how far she takes me! Always have a radio and a cell phone. Maybe some insurance with towing…
Get those carbs off Hopefully you can rebuild them. Nice job. Looking foward to more videos
2021...believe that would be fuel injected. No cards. But point well taken
If only, a carb is something I have successfully messed with before. This thing has them fancy parts.
Our boy with the shelving bar and zip ties 😂 boats can suck, but once you get it going, it will be worth the hassle.
What ever it takes! 💪
Waiting to see it run good luck!

I surprise my self daily. Still working on it in my free time!
@@carlweekend Yeah if you ever get it started I sure like to know about it and see how you did it because that is a nice motor
I love the ingenuity
Thanks! Check out the next video to see what I tried next....
Hey dude just found your Channel very interesting I would love to see this thing crank up and you get out on the water on it! I subscribed so I can see what your next steps were good luck!
Thanks for the sub! Let’s see what happens!
Let it soak with marvel mystery oil
With a superhero name… it must be super good! I’ll check it out for all my projects! Thanks!
What’s in marvel mystery oil. I don’t know it’s a mystery says it right on the bottle. I add 1 oz to my car gas keeps the injectors clean
It’s the best I used it on a diesel Detroit that was frozen for 15 years got it free in 3 days of soaking after replacing some parts motor ran super good .
That's what I use
Following along good progresss keep it going
Summer time is here! I need to be on the water! Keeping my weekend hustle alive!
You could use the same idea with 2 long bolts with the fly wheel still on it.
Good idea! That is probably the manufacturers recommended method…
Guessing you have deep pockets! Love that you're a DIYer too. I have to do the same as most of my maintenance would far exceed my limited budget. One oil change coming right up!
got my fingers crossed 🤞 for ya.

Dude love it. Keep up the fight brotha.
Thanks! Will do!
A wise man once said, "if it works, is it really a dumb idea"? Got the motor freed up didn't it? I'd probably check for spark next, then fuel flow. No telling yet if the rotor stator situation is ok with the water damage...
I like the way you think!
Focus and research....all good you'll figure it out in time....
Thank you, I will!

Let's go Carl!
Thanks brotha! Keep’n it Carl style 😎
Try marvel mystery oil and yamaha ring free treatment.
That’s a new one I never hear before! Thanks! You sure my Suzuki won’t be mad I use a Yamaha product?
Good luck!
Its gonna run, I know it !
With that attitude it’s gotta run!
Should have got two long bolts to screw in the holes then put your bar in there but that’s not really how you get it unseized
It’s not really suppose to be seized in the first place! But it worked! Haha
Complete boat rewire is in the future!
How many wires could there be!? 😅
Good luck
You sound like Bill Murray in Caddyshack. Just prop up the GoPro or get a tripod. Please.
Hahah thanks! Bill Murray is a legend!
A great, cheaper rust penetrant is transmission fluid.
lol all you have to do to break it free was to pull two bolts across from each other , get two long bolts and bolt your cheater bar to the flywheel.
Good job what was the website that you use to find that book?
Doing great
Thanks! Next video just uploaded! Let me know what you think
Are you an hvac guy?
you must do hvac like me lol
You can always find some helpful scraps laying around a jobsite….
Get a head mount for your GoPro
How long was motor under sea water? or without cleaning in fresh water?

what did you pay for the package?
Any more updates?
Coming soon!! Work sent me to Miami and I have not found a place I can afford to store and work on my boat down here
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Did you get it running, why wait so long to post a follow-up video, irritating to say the least 💯
Next video going live soon! Sorry for the delay. My job has me on an assignment in Miami and my boat is in central Florida. Parking a truck down here is hard enough, let alone the cost of parking a project boat😵
Any updates?
Next video is on the way!
Next episode ???
Soon! Life comes at you like a hurricane
Could you maybe not let all that gas run out on the ground ? FL has way too much fuel/oil pollution
Trying my best! It’s all on my drive way. Seems to keep the weeds from growing through the cracks.
Update?
Id first put it in a pool to see if it floats
Hahah I was concerned about the motor. Your right, what if it doesn’t float….
Next video on the way!
Use diesel instead of gas take the fuel injection off open her up and clean it as best as you can put it back and fire her up when she starts let her run on the hoes for a long time . Iv had so many Suzukis it ain’t funny . Best motors ever any one who tells you different don’t know .
I have a 6hp zuki on my sailboat. That baby is a champ! Never flushed, clean the carb once and she purring like a kitten
you need to purchase a manual for that engine, and slow down and not mess up anything else
Boat
I suggest you don't talk with your mouth full. LOL
