Hi. In this video I’ll show you how I make my LED backlit shadowbox with a mirror I engraved with my Makeblock Xtool D1. If you want to see how I engraved the mirror. Check out my previous video.
Parts in this video
Shadowbox - Walmart $14
Led lights - 5below $5 (for better results, stronger lights are recommended).
Mirrored tile - Lowes $26 for 6

EXCELLENT, SPOT ON................
Very nice! Well done! I like that you are detail oriented, and some folks really need that guidance. 😁🛫
Thank you
That is very nice. Thanks for the video. Now I have great Christmas gift ideas
If you don't want to deal with the aluminum foil, I bet mylar would work really well. Great tutorial!
Nice! Thank you!
@@winstonsworld4005 Thank you for watching!
Thank you! Now, time to go try it with a picture of a ferret I need to do for a customer.
Good job buddy!
@@PastorJohnBrown thank you and thanks for watching!
Great walk through. I gave it a go along with your mirror video. It works very well, so thank you for your ideas. I used an image of my mothers dog that recently died, and she was really pleased with it.
I had to mess around with the lighting, as you mentioned. I found my lighting to be a bit brighter in some areas than others, and other dark spots. I took my foil and scrunched it into a ball, then straightened it out again (not to much though, I kept the scrunch appearance of the foil) and re-fixed it. It came out way, better than the first try, diffusing the light around the box.
Great video, please keep up your videos, I've subscribed.
Many thanks from Sydney, Australia.
👍
Thanks. I'm glad it worked out for you. I'll try to make more videos soon.
I was going to make my own, after watching this I'm definitely buying a shadow box instead.
I bought one, did it. I love it. I'm making my boss man 2 for the office. You can get a USB extension cord for about $5 on Amazon. Tuck the connection behind the cardboard and you won't be able to tell.
Very thorough explanation / how to. Thank You!
Thanks for watching
Thanks for the video. Excellent idea. It came out looking great!
Notes (not criticisms):
I would engrave the lion image so that it takes up the entire surface of the mirror.
For the tin foil. I would use a glue stick, or a spray adhesive rather than tape. Use a J-roller to get it firmly stuck to the surface with as little wrinkles as possible. That's just my OCD...
Thanks for the feedback. Although I haven't made one in a while, I'll be sure to incorporate some of the methods you mentioned the next time I make one.
Nice tutorial. Thanks for the step by step.
No problem. Thank you for watching
Fantastic ✌️
i have made a lot of shadow boxes love making them
That is absolutely Brilliant! I had to make my box with mitred corners and all! This is a much better idea! Thanks! You rock!
Thanks for watching!
Nice and easy. thanks!
What do you do with extra lights all I can find is 5 foot strips. Do you just wrap the excess around the in side of frame. Great video
@@KerryKoepke are they the type that you cut? If they are you can cut them to fit. If they aren’t the type you cut, you can keep looping from the bottom of the shadow box(closest to the mirror) and work your way to the top (closest to the back panel). Worst case scenario is to knot up your excess and wrap them in black tape but keep it in the shadow box.
Great video! Exactly what I was looking for.
I had a ortur lase sold it to get the xtool
Are you more contempt with it ?
I would like to know where that frame can be purchased I can't find it in Walmart
You can get them from Amazon or Michaels. Some are a lot easier to use than the one I got
@@laserrookie what is the name of the product, i'm in canada, i cannot find that frame, please
@@wkduff it's called a 12x12 shadow box. You have to make sure it will hold a 12x13 mirror or whatever size mirror you want to use.
Here's one on Amazon. a.co/d/feG1z54
@@laserrookie The mirror that you suggested from Amazon does not have that plastic backing that holds the mirror in place.
A plastic backing is what I'm looking for
Did you find a better light source or longer cord for these somewhere? Thanks for making video
They have a lot of them on Amazon. Search for “bright led lights” on the site. Good prices too
@@laserrookie I was in a Dollar Tree a few days ago and they have LED light strips I am not sure how long the power cable is thou.😁🛫
Tried to put the screws back in but the mirror was in the way I had to hot glue it in
Sorry to hear that. Your mirror might have been a bit bigger or the light box a bit smaller. They have better light boxes out there than the one I used. Those make things a bit easier.
Looks Amazing bro. Check out Michael's Shadow Boxes they are much easier to work with no screws. Keep the bangers coming.
Sounds good bro thanks. Those screws were a headache.
Michael? Link...

You can get a 6ft USB extension cord for about $5 on Amazon
Thanks. I’ll check it out.
What settings did you use and how many watts is your laser?
@@thatonegamer2709 this was done on my 10watt xtool d1. View my previous video, I have the settings there.
