I dont really think its a "rivalry" per say, but Kitchen probably left because he wants to be the #1 guy, as He deserves, Deegan was going to no matter what be that #1 guy, the way they were laughing and congratulating each other shows me there was no bad blood, Kitchen could have came out and just said, yeah you absolutely deserved that penalty I would have beat you if you didnt accelerate off track. If there was a bad blood, Levi even kind of stood against Pro Circuits decision in my opinion, but deflected it enough to not totally stand against the decision to protest

If a rider goes off track they have to do a 360 donut. If they fail to do the donut they have to sign autographs with the fans for 30 min after the race lol (in Salt Lake AC was the only rider bothering to sign autographs with the fans)

If the only reason new eyeballs are coming to the sport is because Hayden is creating drama and swearing in interviews, we dont need those eyeballs. Quality over quantity. I want our sport to grow through the hands of Tomac, Ciancarulo, or Roczen.
I still think that Deegan should have been penalized since Vialle got penalized himself. The AMA is way too inconsistent with their penalties and just "cherry-pick," when they really should not. If Deegan's not getting penalized, then the AMA should withdraw Vialle's penalty.

125A or Pro in the mid to late 1980s... We used to have to turn around reenter where we went off. I think stick with the track direction and reenter in the direction of track where safest. It's kinda tough with how some track layouts are... so that's a tough question and a lot to unpackage to come up with solution.
I think a good idea would be, if you go off the track, you have to raise your right hand once you know you can safely and then you are good to go.

Also J-Mart pretty much did a "stop and go" penalty" he stopped longer than anyone would have in the pits, yes he still had an advantage because he didnt have to struggle up Mt. Martin. I like the idea of having the ribbons around the track again, go off track, run the risk of losing your rear brake like what cost Langston back in 2000 or so. Not sure if its able to be put on some foam retainers above ground so its not an injury hazard though

Please dont get carried away with this "rivalry" everyone. Theres definitely NO beef or bad blood. They are good friends. Probs haidens best friend on the track outside of bennick. All the behind the scenes stuff between them looks a lot more genuine than any exaggerated moments on the podium from deegan. Not sure what will develop from a season long battle but right now there is again. NO BEEF.

@@kurtheidelbach What safety issues, specifically? Having to wait for the trailing riders to clear before re-entering? The "intention to enter as close as possible" isn't working, as the rider would have to literally stop to do so, which no one does. Turning around should be safe af, as they're off the racetrack. Both Vialle and Deegan could have stopped and turned around safely to re-enter where they exited the track.

This is going to sound kinda goofy - but MX Sim takes track cuts into consideration. Surely there's a way to track when someone goes off the track. It could be an either or situation like "you cut the track for a total of 6.83 seconds. You can either risk the time gap & fall back however far that would put you when the time is added to your final race time OR you can do a designated lane stop & go (I know the GP guys have a goggle lane, but not sure if the AMA does).
The strategy would be similar, but it adds another aspect of them trying to decide if risking the time gap is worth it or if they take the for sure safety in the stop & go.
They could also add something silly like a joker lane for penalties similar to MotoGPs long lap penalty.
Both motos were so damn good, i hope we see levi and haiden battle like that all season. They dropped the field.

Down Hill Mountain bike racing and Enduro both have rules that if you leave the track or go outside the tape you have to re-enter at the same point you left or your are DQ, you have guys having to run with their bike back up the hill to get back to that spot.
OK thoughts Cooksey, but self reporting? Naw. Serve your stop and go before re-entering the track. Full stop at the tracks edge. Simple. Little to no officiating. You mentioned Coombs. He is part of the problem. In road racing we had ample track workers...all volunteers, but free lunch, port-o-potties and tons of appreciation. We gave them awards at seasons end. MX simply needs to attract more volunteers and give them proper training. I would do that, even as a former racer...close to the action!

@kurtheidelbach If they stop when they run of the track, look back to make sure it's clear there shouldn't be any issues. It's as simple as that. Now supercross is a different issues but motocross with all the room there shouldn't be a problem.

C'mon man, "now it's Deegan against Levi". It's the first race, which was Deegans home track! Now Vialle doesn't factor in along with 5 other guys. After the 3rd race then you can start calling who is likely to win the championship.
I've said there needs to be a stop and go for Leaving the track.... I dont like the lap after the race because there are many times those are yellow markers are gone.... there should be more than enough people looking to catch the bad infractions.... or go back to banners and hay bales....
They are friends off track and even still train some times together at the sandbox but during racing time they want to beat each other. Kitchen wanted a different training program and also wanted to not deal with the crowds that come with deegan in the pits

If you exceed track limits just add time penalties. First infraction is 10 seconds. Doubles each time thereafter.
First time seeing this channel read lot of comments saying there’s no hate betweeen these two riders but I just wanted to say something that’s not relevant on the topic and no disrespect to the man but my first impression of seeing this guy reminds me of that South Park episode of a character named mimsy it might be the hair style but it made me laugh and smile 😊
8:42 thunder valley yesterday all 3 club mx 250s all hole shotted pretty mch...they were 1 2 3 for the first lap, the entire first lap almost too with Finess out front...i call him mark Finesse, but its pronounced "Fin-ee-s

Mitch Peyton isn’t dumb. If vialle wasn’t penalized. He would have never protested. They saw an opportunity to get the Moto win and just like any smart team they went for it.
There’s nothing wrong with the rule. The rule states you can’t go off the track and gain an unfair advantage. The situation with Martin, that he had can be considered an unfair advantage. Vialle did not gain an unfair advantage, he may not have lost time, but no advantage. Even Johnny Hopper showed the lip pro on him.
I think the real issue here is why did the AMA penalized Tom? There’s no grounds for a penalty whatsoever any of these off track excursions deegan Sexton or Tom.
Honestly, most of the AMA rules are pretty fair. The issues we’re having are that unfair penalties are being dashed out that don’t match up with the very rules they have put in place.
These are all simply my opinion, not saying I’m right, but this is my take on things.

I think having some kind of joker lane for penalties makes the most sense. Having the rider come off the track and to a complete stop doesn't work well for this sport. That's a lot of time for accidentally going off track and still being on the throttle. That's a natural reaction. Anyone who rides knows when your bike starts getting away from you that you don't slow down, you accelerate to stay upright. Have the finish line give them a flag that tells them to take a joker lane and it adds time to their next lap but doesn't throw off their flow or concentration
Deegan should have been Penalized Tom went off track Once ,Deegan 3 off track,& Deegan cleared a 75 foot coming back on the track. It looked like they didn't want to penalize the cash cow.

They have enough section timing and the video to make the judgement call. Should be simple, was your time through that section faster than your previous lap? If you had a burner in that section then the rider needs to be cognizant of that and slow down. It should also be on intent. Did the rider just blatantly go off track or was there circumstances that led to it. Example part of the track giving way and it forces you off or cross rutting causing it. It can't be that hard to make the call.
@CookseyMedia What if whenever a rider goes off the track, they have to raise their right (throttle) hand for X amount seconds (say two or three seconds)? They wouldn't have to come to a complete stop, they could continue to coast but visibly would not be able to accelerate.
none of this happened..deegan is -32 points ahead of everyone..and Tom is in like 4th or 5th inb Chip, Levi is like 5th or so. Chance is 2 in points
Why not tag on a time penalty for the duration of their off-track incident. F1 does this. Mechanics can communicate their penalties real time so the rider can know how much time they need to make up. over the guy behind them.

Go off track, you should need to raise your right hand (throttle hand) for a second once you establish control to recognize you went off. Without this recongnition its easy for the officials to levy the basic penalty. If you do the right hand then pin it to avoid obstacles (JA21), well then thats obviously a penalty anyways. So force them to go off throttle for a second, and this would have prevented Deegan from doubling into the track which is why he should have been docked.
I like Levi and I think it is Premature saying he will win this championship.
There are too many races left to Give a 👑 to anyone yet but Haiden and Levi do appear to be the leading Candidate.
Vialle was pretty far back but I know some tracks people suck at and others he could smash his Competition.

I think the penalty system is fine the way it is. Levi clearly was pulling away from Haiden while he was off the track, that's why no penalty was issued. Tom was clearly grabbing a handful of throttle while off the track,l.
If they used your suggested method, guys would be getting a penalty even for crashing off the track, which would be a double whammy as far as lost time goes.

I think Levi did get tired of the Deegan show when he was with Yamaha but now that he’s with Kawi, I really do not believe there’s any real bad blood. They just want to beat each other. Pretty simple.

I think for going off the track as long as you don’t gain any time or positions then no harm no foul. Everyone is making way too big of a deal about it. None of the off track incidents Saturday had any change in the outcome of the results and let’s be honest, no rider is going to try to go off track on purpose thinking they can gain an advantage in some way. It’s very rare you can actually gain time and with all the technology they have now with the timing and gap between riders, it’s pretty easy to see if a rider gained any advantage or not.
Personally, I don’t think your stop and go thing would be a terrible idea but maybe instead of pulling over in the designated area and stopping fully, maybe just have it where you have to go into the designated area, however long they want to make it, and just go roughly the same speed as you do thru the pits. Most of those off track excursions aren’t anywhere long enough where a rider should have to fully stop, that loses a shitload of time. But I also don’t think just because you make a small mistake and go off track that you should have to also go and do something like that because most of the time, if done right while off track, you’re already going to lose time. It could end up making a great battle for the win into a 5+ second gap and easy win for the leader and I’m sure none of us want to see that.
These guys are on a rough ass track going full send for 30+ minutes, heart rates are super high, fatigue setting in, and if you hit a rock or bump and it knocks you side ways and off the track, it’s tough for their brain to think fast enough to just let off right away and cruise while off track. As long as it’s not egregious then let’s stop trying to make a huge deal about it and completely screw up someone’s race over a small mistake, UNLESS they gain an obvious advantage. It should be pretty cut and dry if someone gained an advantage or not and if they did then dock them a spot or maybe instead of a full spot, just do a championship point or something.
If I was winning and on the podium I would whip out my blue vein flute and slap on the table in front of everyone. When you're a star they let you do it!

"Don't gain advantage" basically means no cost off-track error. There should be a 5 or 10-second penalty for each off-track.
