@@mvit8088I’ve seen Top Gun, it’s a favorite in my family 😊 I’m not sure of the exact time stamp, but I’m pretty sure I quoted “You’re a pilot!” somewhere in this video
Last year, I almost got three of my front teeth knocked out, so I couldn't eat solid food for a while and was largely living on soup. When I told friends about it, I quoted Admiral Benson: "I love soup. At least I think I love soup. It's either soup or duck. Which one do you shoot?"
Now I get it. This joke is a play on baseball terminology and the unexpected context of animals playing baseball. In baseball, if a pitcher throws three balls, the next pitch could result in a walk if it's also a ball (four balls lead to a walk). So, "walking" an elephant with three balls means to allow it to take a base rather than risking another ball that would automatically allow it to advance. The punchline "pitch to the rhino" suggests that the rhino is a less intimidating batter compared to the elephant, so the strategy would be to face the presumably easier opponent. It's a humorous twist because, in reality, neither animal would be playing baseball, and it plays on the absurdity of the situation. The joke also relies on the double meaning of "balls" as both a term for pitches outside of the strike zone and a colloquial term for the testicles, adding a layer of adult humor to the joke.
@@paulmartin2348 I wouldn't categorically agree with that. One day, in a Middle School math class, I overheard one young lady who was part of a group I had been assigned to sharing with another young lady who was in the same group this joke someone had told her that she didn't get. Q: How do you make an elephant fly? A: You start with a very large zipper. I considered it for just a moment and got it. When I laughed, she asked me to explain it and I said, "You've never heard of a fly zipper?" With that, they both got it and we all had a chuckle. You _can_ explain a joke, but I'll agree, if they don't understand it fairly quickly, you're probably wasting your time.
I think my dad took me to see this when it came out in 1991. I graduated in August 1991 and then went into the Navy. We laughed so much in the theater. They made a part two as well
I loved this movie so much as a kid. Every now and then when I hear "How are you?" a little concerned Admiral Benson pops into my head saying "Hawaii?". The second one is just as good!
The model kit company, Airfix makes a kit of the Folland Gnat (the plane used in this movie), and they include decals and paint scheme for the planes from this movie, and even a write up of the mission. All written as if it were real, of course.
Thanks for your reaction. I watched it in a movie theater shortly after it came out. I think it's the only time I went to the theater and people stayed on their seats until the end of the credits. was so much fun.
The second one is just as funny and worth a reaction. At the time of this movie Paula Abdul was Charlie Sheen's sister-in-law. Emilio Estevez wrote and directed the movie Bobby after Charlie read the script and demanded he make it
Great reaction Amelia like always, love this movie is so funny. There are some fun.facts about it. Amelia you wouldn’t be alone in thinking that the scenes shot on the aircraft carrier were actually shot at sea. Amazingly, the ‘ship’ wasn’t even touching the water. For the scenes shot on the aircraft carrier, the production team built a wooden deck on the edge of a cliff. The scenes on the carrier were then shot at an angle to make the deck look as if it was at sea. Charlie Sheen gives a shoutout to his future sister-in-law in the film, In one scene, Sheen’s character spins his plane around and says “I learned this one from Paula Abdul.” At the time of filming, Paula Abdul was in a relationship with Sheen’s brother, Emilio Estevez. In some of the early previews of the film, the part of Saddam Hussein was credited as being played by the man himself Hillarious! 12 years after the release of this movie, stars Charlie Sheen, Jon Cryer and Ryan Styles went on to star in CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men. And that’s not all - the song The Man I Love, sung by Valeria Golino in Hot Shots!, was also sung by Charlie’s mum in an episode of Two and a Half Men. One memorable scene in this sees Charlie Sheen place an olive into Valeria Golino’s belly button, only for her to successfully pop it into her mouth without using her hands. While you might have assumed that this shot was filmed using some sort of trick photography or else simply heavily edited, Golino has always insisted that the shot was real. Impressive! Keep up the good work.
Lloyd Bridges was a phenomenally gifted comedic actor, every time I watch this he especially makes me laugh so hard I cry. Also, Amelia, it just hit me, but you sound exactly like Anette Benning!
16:35 Good timing. You said that right on top of a joke that _nobody_ these days gets. "thirtysomething" was the title of a popular TV series that had just been canceled when this movie was made.
42:29 - "Is it safe?" - That's a reference to the movie Marathon Man (1976). Dustin Hoffman's character gets involved in spy stuff, and at one point, the bad guy tortures him with dental instruments while asking "Is it safe?"
"Is it safe" quote is from the movie Marathon Man where a dentist tortures someone for info who has no clue what info the dentist wants and also doesn't have. Good movie, but a bit old now where few would get that reference.
I can never get enough of the Hot Shots movies!! The sequel is equally great, so be sure to watch that as well. Lloyd Bridges is a national treasure! "I'm a virgin... I'm just not very good at it!!" Hahahhaaa Oh and you gotta look out for them crabs... they work in pairs!!

Great movie. Another Parody is Top Secret with Val Kilmer who is also in Top Gun . Also a great 80's spy romantic comedy with the guy who plays Goose who is almost unknown today is Gotcha! which I highly recommend . This movie parody allot of movies not just Top Gun. It parody dances with wolfs for example and the scene with the piano is a parody on a movie Baker Boys (Shrek also parody it). The dentist scene is a a parody on a great thriller movie called Marathon Man with Dustin Hopman. The sex scene is a spoof on 9 and half weeks a 80's movie with Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke. Another great parody you should see with Emilio Estvaz (Chrilie Sheen brother) is Loaded Weapon.
17:27 "I don't get it. I'll catch it later." It's a baseball reference. In baseball, it's a strike when the pitcher throws a ball to home plate, within the zone, that the batter misses. I don't know why so many people do this, what's the point? But thanks for the response, just please leave the cuts out. That makes no sense. It just brings unrest into the picture. You're not making an action film. Addendum: I'm now at minute 15, but there's a cut every few seconds, I can't keep watching it, it's really too much, it's a shame. So some people also cut a lot, but not to such extremes, and change their position in the picture through the cut. Near, far, near far, near far. Luckily most of them don't do that at all, they keep their position or if a large film clip is shown, they fade out, but that doesn't happen all the time either. It's just as annoying when film scenes are extremely short and in one reaction from start to finish. Sure, in order to prevent deletion etc., but some people exaggerate this or while talking, the sound of the film is switched off, usually picture and sound, but the film is not stopped.

Lloyd Bridges is everyone's spirit animal.
He's speaks what were always thinking.
The concept of spirit animal has been misused so much in the past decade that it's lost all meaning. 🤦♂
I love silly spoof movies like this. “Wendy I can fly!” That cracks me up every single time! 😂

That sounds like a Peter Pan reference. Not 100% sure.
