Pro Tip: Don't try to drink anything when Lloyd Bridges is on screen. Also, "Hot Shots! Part Deux" (1993) is definitely worth watching. Somehow Lloyd Bridges is even funnier in the sequel.

It's ZAZ (Zucker Abrams Zucker), not Mel Brooks, but Hot Shots is a fantastic spoof on Top Gun. Part Deux is quite good too, though has a lot more references. The reason we don't get good spoofs/parodies lately is because over use of reference humor with no over-arching plot or originality ran them into the ground (the 'movie movies' - Scary Movie, Epic Movie, etc)
Cant decide if those glasses are absolute abominations or the coolest shit Ive ever seen 🤣 Do appriciate the patriotism tho, America need it more than ever.
I was looking at the airforce or navy after highschool. I was told I couldn't be a pilot b/c I was to tall, but my eyesight had me looking at a different direction from the get go. Carey Ewes never got enough of a push as a lead. Dude was a great actor. Spoofs just died out like all genre's do. You are getting to see the best of the best, but there were a lot of bad ones that came out. Superhero's movies are going through it now. Hopefully quality spoofs come back.
An interesting thing about Washout ending up in Vegas.... Nellis Airforce base is a literal spitting distance from the Vegas Strip, and since so much training happens there, it isn't 100% impossible for some pilot to become disoriented and end up staring at the lights.
I haven't watched this movie in years. So many references that would be easy to miss because they're no longer timely or are in the background. I've seen this movie maybe a dozen times over the years and each time I watch it I catch something new.

Apparently, the crew had great difficulty shooting this film both in stage and on location due to a serious chihuahua infestation. The problem caused many reshoots that threatened to drastically exceed their budget.
